In gingerbread and froyo, there is a function that restores apps once we sign in google account in a new phone, but this is not happening in Android4.0. is that function being taken out in ICS?
It Does
I Recently Flashed The ICS Rom For My S2 And It Restored My Apps Just Fine !
Did You Have Backup My Data Checked In The Settings App On Your Old Device ?

yes, i checked it everytime i login my account, the same goes to my previous ROM. could it be 2.3 backup-to-google-server is not compatible to ICS?
even on gingerbread it didnt do it for me lol Only on my tablet it does it
I "believe" ICS doesn't restore apps from older versions of the operating system. When I got a Galaxy Nexus, it didn't restore the apps I had on my Gingerbread phone, but when I then got a Transformer Prime, it restored the apps I had on my Nexus.
Its restoring in ma CM9 ICS v1.2

My Nexus did, but ny buddys Nexus didnt
I Wouldn't Think So Because I Ran GB On My GS II Before I Flashed The ICS Rom And That Restored Apps From GB To ICS But It Didn't Work On Honeycomb Because I Bought A Xoom When It First Came Out Then Just Recently I Upgraded To A Galaxy Tab 10.1 And That Didn't Restore Any Of My Apps. It May Just Be A Bug In ICS That May Be Ironed Out Soon. Other Than That I'm Clueless
I think the critical factor is which version of the android market you used before, often when it did not restore apps (on ROM/OS switching) the android market version was different.
I wouldn't advise using the auto restore.since some users don't want the OS choosing the install paths between a2sd and internal. Also since it doesn't restore the freebies,it's extra work unless you use titanium batch mode and just pick.which apps you want with the "app only" option to avoid corruption in data. fastest way to restore all apps then you can manually check market for updates. if you don't use titanium I highly recommend as a must have paid app.saves massive amounts of time, especially if you use over 200 apps like me

Mine never does on GB...Idk why though

thats really strange, based on the replies here, not everyone with gingerbread have the auto restore functioning too. the biggest culprit could be the Android Market App, but having the latest version doesnt solve my problem either.
As for titanium backup, yes it sure handy, how about for non-root users?

What's your reasoning on this?
apps sync worked for me only if I logged into my Google account during first boot.
If I skipped adding Google account adding at first startup and added it later, it never restored my app data from Google account.

This is my first post here so it'll probably be in the wrong spot and say something everyone already knows etc etc
I recently battled through an installation of the CM-6.1.3 ROM and when i restored apps using titanium backup/restore I kept getting force closes using the camera and even when trying to choose a ringtone.
The mistake i was making is that you can't just restore all apps with titanium. Your old versions of apps will over-write the CM-6.1.3 versions and cause issues. I had to go and restore only the minimum number of my user apps making sure i wasn't over-writing an app already built into the ROM.
If this is so basic as to not be worth sharing....sorry. But I imagine a lot of noobs like me with new ROM problems could trace it back to improper titanium use?
Some things to consider:
1. What was the last ROM you backed up your apps on.
2. Did you enable application moving in CyanogenMod Application settings.

You cannot backup your apps from Android 2.1 and restore them to Android 2.2 (CM 6.1.3), the data will not be compatible. And make sure you do enable Application Moving or else you may run out of space on your phone's internal storage.

my luck is that i don't use much app
I just restore my apps and their data with tb. Always works fine for me.
I dont restore any built in stuff at all, it only takes a few minutes to run through the settings.

OK so it seems my phone has an issue with any rom other than stock as I have tried them all and I have 3 things that happen: a. Phone will reboot on its on or b. The screen will go black with the buttons lit up. Or c. It will freeze on me. This is any rom other than bone stock. Any one know what could be the cause of this?
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk
okay , your phone looks like hard to use.
what version/model is it ? is it possible you flashed GSM ROM to 4G Nexus S ? or 4G ROM to GSM ?
okay , your operator is AT&T , forget it ... it wouldn't be 4G
orginal MIUI and orginal CM7 , all the same ?
I haven't tried any miui roms but every rom I have tried has been for 9020s. I have tried bugles beast, NSCollab, oxygen, we scream for ice cream (which I fully expect to have issues but could not resist trying) , blanddroid, and nexusMV all with the same issue. I even tried several different kernels to see if that would make a difference but it didn't
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk
There's a low chance your cpu can't take any voltages/frequencies outside stock kernel range. Because that black display/lit buttons thingy happens to me if I go too low on voltages or freq.
What are the stock voltage rages? So I can try that theory out?
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk
Nexus has model of 9020S ??
i only heard about 9020A,F,T and 9023
default MIUI doesn't over/underclock or UV
To further update today I have been running a stock 2.3.7 rom made by drew garen that has been running well with no reboots, freezes or anything but again it is stock with the exception of being rooted and 2.3.7 instead 2.3.4 like my stock rom and the only reason I am running it instead of my actual stock one is for google wallet.

Nah, NS4G is running 2.3.7 as it includes the required NFC chip update to run Google wallet.
OK so even with that rom it has been acting stupid though not as bad then I went to my stock rom and again the same thing so I think I am just going to unroot and take it to best buy because I am pretty sure it is not supposed to have this much trouble
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk
Well I am completely stock and unrooted now and so far no problems so my question would now be did I just have a bad root or something? Should I retry rooting now that its back to original or should I take it to best buy and try to get them to replace it? I really like playing with rooted phones and trying different roms and stuff but it is kinda impractical when my phone won't handle it...that's why I am wondering if I had done something wrong maybe?
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk
I have the NS4G but I've never had those issues on any ROM
Well after being unrooted since yesterday I am now no longer getting any freezes, black screens, or reboots. My question now is, did I possibly do something wrong in the root process that might have caused this problem?
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk
Did you try re-rooting it?

I did just now using different more up to date rooting kit files then the ones I used before. I am going to stick with the stock rom for the rest of the day just rooted and see if the problem happens and then if it doesn't do like this then I may try running a custom rom and if this does not work I will unroot it again and throw the phone against a brick repeatedly so best buy will take the thing back as I tried taking it back today and i couldn't come up with a good enough reason for them too take it back it seems.
OK update time. Running stock rooted after unrooting and rooting (using a different root kit this time) I am having no issues what so ever and I even tried taxing the CPU by running app after app ran some heavy games and things of that nature with no restarts or freezes, however I tried NSCollab for a little while and it did act up though not as bad as before so I have gone back to stock rooted and everything is fine for now. I may try some other rom later but for now I am happy just to be rooted with no issues with the stock rom. I might try a less modded rom like buggles beast or oxygen net go round though other than not having the notification Widgets and reboot/recovery option when pressing the power button stock rooted does everything I want it too.

I think that problem could be kernel. Have you tried any customer kernels? Previously I had freeze issues and this so called 'morning coma', kernel fixed all those problems
while that could be the issue with that rom I think I have discovered my real problem could be something to do with titanium backup, either the program its self or one of my backed up apps. this morning on my stock rom it rebooted twice so I got to thinking and decided to do a wipe but instead of restoring my apps from titanium back up I just used the market website to send all of my apps to my phone and so far that seems to have fixed the issue. the only apps i did not re-install was amazon appstore (and a few games from there) rom manager, and titanium backup so I am assuming my problem is contained in one of those apps if I am no longer having the problem.
With titanium do you you just back up apps and app data? Or system data too?

i have titanium backup pro and auto restore of app dont work with ics but with GB it working what to do so it will restore it auto??
This is what I've done:
- installed ICS upgrade over gingerbread without wiping /data
- booted ICS and made a backup of all my apps
- factory reset
- booted ICS again and restored my apps
It seems it won't restore apps backed up on gingerbread, but worked fine after upgrading to ICS
Try using mybackup app

In titanium go to settings, market tools and then run market doctor - this will reinstate the market links.

this thread should be closed. The latest TB fixes the hypershell problem and is working fine with ICS.

When i was on GB or Froyo i remember every time i restored a rom either stock or custom, as soon as i logged into my google account my apps auto restored.
Now on ICS i see some custom roms do this and others do not and none of the stock roms do.
why is this?
its such as nice feature and it seems like something that is available from google itself and that some rom devs just enable it or disable it.
does anyone have any insight?
Also i downloaded Titanium Free version and i can not find Batch operations anywhere. did they change it to where you have to buy pro version to get batch operations now?
You have to check or uncheck it before signing in. If you download an app first it overrides the restore.
As far as titanium, I dunno. I support the devs and buy apps.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2
no what I mean is some roms as soon as you sign in and choose yes to google backup service, the device starts downloading all of your apps from google play store automatically which is awesome.
most roms dont do that and none of the stock roms have done this since Froyo and SOME GB ones.
this must be some type of hidden default setting that some devs arent enabling by default in their roms which i cant understand why they wouldn't do it.
Before I sign in I uncheck auto sync and all that so the apps don't restore automatically. So I guess I wouldn't know which roms it happens or doesn't happen on.

It's still there, just select the checkmark in the top right corner, when you're in the Backup/Restore Screen.
Yea I've noticed the same thing. It's only worked for me so far when flashing CM9. I think I read someone else asked this same question regarding why it works when flashing CM9 but not AOKP.

yea i think ive noticed it on CM9 builds as well.
i just dont understand why even stock builds in Froyo and some GB had this enabled by default but no Stock ICS does it and very limited and hit or miss 3rd party ICS roms do it.
it makes it so much easier when flashing roms when you sign in and all of your apps from the playstore just start downloading.
I am interested in whether or not this has been addressed further? Is there a way to enable auto restore for roms? If so then how? Btw happy new year and thank you to everyone who helps to keep this community going from contributors to devs, themers, and testers. It has been a tremendous help to me time and time again. Thank you
hello
i normally use the codefire 4.3 ROM, installed the karbonkitkat, and one thing that was a bit annoying was the fact that all my apps werent redownloaded? i had to through and individually install them...
anytime i re-rommed using another codefire nightly buid, all my apps were pulled down again...
or is there someting i can force to get all the apps downloaded as normal?
is this by design because its a different android version?
thanks
g
Why don't you just use Titanium Backup to backup your apps? Restoring from TiBu is so much easier than restoring through the Play Store. Even if you don't want to do it that way usually at least you will have a backup for cases like this. In my honest opinion, every single unlocked/rooted phone should have Titanium installed, it's the single most important app for rooted devices.
