I am a noob and recently got my hands on Inspire 4g. I have read the guide posted by Attn1 for hacking the phone. However I have the following questions:
1) Once the phone is hacked how do I install a custom ROM. The attn1 steps are not clear in this regards. I mean I disable fast boot -> Reboot into recover.> select and browse to the ROM file using volume and power? Is that all to it
2) Can I use my SD Card (I have only 1) that I convert for Gold card for other things like pictures, custom roms etc. In other words can I delete my GOLD card and use it for porting ROMs
Regarding your first question, it's rather simple. Download the zip file for the specific rom you want. Place that zip file (do not unzip) on your SD card. Boot into recovery. Choose install zip from SD card. Pick the zip file. Wait for it to flash and your done. Reboot and have yourself a beer. Read the rom thread for the rom you want as some may require specific instructions for that specific rom.

The gold card is only needed for one step of the process. Once rooted, you cando anything you want with it. Format it, keep it as a spare, exchange it to another device, etc.
Thanks for all your suggestions. Now I am rooted
The next part is, can someone recommend the best ROM out there for my phone. I specially like the HTC Isnpire ring thingie.
Also would I have to format my SD card (gold card) or can I just place the ROOT on the SD card without formatting. Reason I want to refrain from format is I just downloaded many apps on my SD card.
You do not have to format your card. When you wipe before installing a rom it will delete your data in your phone. You need to backup your apps with a program such as Titanium Backup. Only restore apps and their data. Do not restore any system data. You can use Rom Manager to reboot into recovery. Use volume keys for up and down and power to select. Choose wipe option first and wipe cache, dalvik cache, and data/factory restore. Then go back and choose the install file from sd card, select the rom zip file on your card and flash. As far as roms go, it is subjective. It sounds as if you like sense roms. You can look in development. They are all good. Just read the descriptions and try the ones that sound good to you.
I was looking at CoreDroid's Inspire 4G ROM and it stated that I need to be ENG-OFF. Now as far as I know I am Radio S-OFF as per ACE hack kit. Please validate that the two are different.
Also can you please ellaborate on the backup of current ROM procedure before proceeding with installing the new ROM. I had done the following:
1) Installed ROM Manager and booted into Recovery and created a backup of my current ROM
2) I now can place the zip file on my SD card and boot into recovery and do one of two things:
a) Clean/Wipe and than select ZIP file
b) Just select the ZIP file without cleaning or wiping
3) If for some reason the ROM fails, can I just use ROM manager and backup my original ROM
I dont care about programs much as I have just been 4 hours with the phone and dont care if all data is lost. Just dont wanna brick it.
4) The CoreDroid ROM is asking me for Radio upgrade. I am guessing I have to use the ENG-OFF tool before upgrading Radio. Just a dumb noob question, cant I use my stock radio with the ROM that came as a part of ACE Hack kit. I am little worried about upgrading radio as Attn1's post mention phone can be bricked

I don't believe you have to be eng-s off to flash coredroid. I flashed coredroid and I'm only S-off. Radio's vary from person to person. One radio for "x" person may be awesome but you try the same radio and the results are sub par. If the rom recommends a radio, I typically flash the radio since the rom includes that RIL for the recommended radio.
As for flashing radios, I know the eng-s off way is risky which is why I never tried it. I know there is a radio thread in the Dev section and if you search the specific rom thread you'll probably find someone who already made the "PD98IMG.zip" file for those who are s-off only. The Dev section radio thread will have the .zip file made and ready. Pretty much once you get the PD98IMG.zip file (yes, it MUST be named PD98IMG.zip). you put it on the root of your SD card. Restart into bootloader, and run Hboot. It will find the img and boom, flashed radio. Someone else is gonna have to chime in on this for how to check as I'm not near my phone to see what apps I use, but you'll also notice that there are the md5 sum checks, that's just to a safeguard to be sure that the file isn't corrupt. If the file is corrupt and you try to flash the radio, nothing good can come from it. Hope that helps. A little tip with flashing radios, once you download the radio file, and you check the md5 sum numbers. If you try to flash the radio and the bootloader tells you img not found, and you renamed the file yourself and you added ".zip" to the end of the file, try removing the .zip because I did that once and the name the phone was recognizing was "PD98IMG.zip.zip"
Guys I am stuck and need urgent help.
I wanted to try the Revolution HD ROM and tried the following:
•Download ROM and place it on your SD card
•Download "Super Wipe" script & place it on your SD card (optionally if coming from earlier version of my ROM, obligatory if coming from stock or other custom ROM)
•Boot your phone in recovery mode (vol down + power)
*************
As soon as I booted my phone with vol down + power my phone vibrated three times. Now its showing a blank screen and green light. I dont know what to do. Urgent help appreciated.
You do not need to be Eng-S-off. Grab the PD98IMG file from the radio thread. Flash it in Hboot as per the directions. I am not at my computer right now, but go to the themes thread and find the boot splash thread by mudknot. Look for one of the last posts made by me. Download and run the MD5 checking program I posted. It is an easy way to check MD5 sums.
When you make a backup via rom manager, you back up the entire rom. If you restore it you restore the entire previous rom. You make backups in case of emergencies. If you don't care about your data then just wipe and flash after backing up.

1) Once you s-off, root and add a custom recovery, you won't be able to apply the OTA because of the custom recovery. The OTA expects to find the HTC Recovery in place, not a custom one. You would be better off taking the OTA update and then running the hack kit.

Give me details. What phone and os. Also, why are you restoring from your PC? Can you get your phone into cwm or similar recovery? What started this problem or what was the last thing you did successfully.

Hey, phone was SGS2, i 'm trying restore from PC because i got super brick - my phone is dead, i need replace motherboard.
First i was install stock rom 4.0.4 with Odin, everything worked fine, so i make backup with cwm and install JB 4.1 - non official, also everything worked fine, after this i remembered that i have forgot some files in stock rom,so i make new backup to JB rom and reinstall stock rom from backup that i make before -- until this stage everything fine. Now i wanted return to JB rom and i try flush backup through cwm and i got error - something like "system image error", so i flush it from begining -just clean rom..
After this i remember that i again forgot some files in stock rom, so again, flush stock from backup trough cwm, after i try back to JB rom trough cwm - like in first time,no success, so i try also like in first time - clean install.. in middle of progress phone just shutdown and dead...
Thank for helping
P.S
After first time that i cannot reinstall JB rom trough cwm i thought that backup doesn't performed correctly, so i make new one.. all those file from second backup, the rom was JB 4.1 with Siya kernel
Yeah umm. I think you lost power during your flash at an early state. Could be wrong but how could you flash a Ron and realize you didn't have some files? Was it your own build?

I first want to start off that I am brand new to all of this. I have been reading up about this for a while and finally decided to root my Galaxy S3 the other night. I followed the instructions by Phone Rebel in his Youtube video. I used these files: Download and Install Samsung Official USB Drivers - Link
Download and extract ODIN v3.07 - Link
Download the Zip Below
For Both Root and Unlocked Bootloader ***RECOMMENDED*** – Download SuperSU + Unlocked Bootloader to your SD Card - Link
Download the VRALEC Bootchain - Link
Download one of the below
For ClockworkMod Touch Recovery 6.0.1.2 (Download this to your computer) - Link
For TWRP Recovery 2.3.1.0 (Download this to your computer) - Link
Download the VRBLK3 Bootchain - Link
After completing the root, it automatically installed SuperSU. (not quite sure what it does, again, i'm very new to all of this) After reading up on what to do after you root, I read that it is a good idea to download ROM Manager as well as Mobile ODIN. I installed both, difference being I bought Mobile ODIN Pro.
Using ROM Manager, I tried flashing CWM Touch, I was successful in doing so. However, when I boot into recovery, I get a message stating that ROM will flash back to stock after boot. Do you want to fix? Yes= this can not be undone. No. Or Go Back. I was scared to press yes because I didn't know what it would do. I have not installed any custom ROM because I'm not 100% sure on how to do it so I am not going to take the plung until I know.
Any suggestions or answrs on how to fix this issue would be appreciated. I do want to flash a custom ROM like Cyanogenmod. I've just read that it's a really good custom ROM. Any ROM suggestions will be greatly appreciated as well.
Also, I've read that you have to back up IEML or IMEL? ( I probably butchered that all up, again i'm sorry) I have Titanium Backup, can i do it with that? And if you install a custom ROM do you have to do a wipe of your phone? If so, how do i do that? And if Verizon releases another OTA update, can I accept it or will it brick my device?
Thank you in advance for all your help.
It will ask disable stock recovery flash. You have to say yes else it will flash stock recovery and you will loose the cwm touch recovery which you flashed.
Thanks doesn't hurt....

Hi, thanks for replying. I cannot post in the topic of the rom because I am new on the forum (what I get when I try to post something overthere).
Could you please explain me how to fix the permissions in CWM?
I am a beginner who been trying to fix his tablet for a week now, but I still dont understand everything since I cant put all my time on it... If its not about following tutorials step by step, i am lost...
I also tried the fast team one, without any success, when the rom is installed and the device is rebooted, this time the screen stay blocked on "samsung galaxy tab3" for years!!!
sorry, i meant the fast dream rom
I just tried to Flash three roms from sammobile.com (one from hong-kong, one from spain and one from germany) through Odin.
Everytime I get I click on AP to load the rom on odin, I get this message:"md5 error! Binary is invalid".
Since I have rooted the tablet using odin to instal CWM, when I boot the tablet in download mode, I can see:
- PRODUCT NAME: SM-T311
- CURRENT BINARY: Cusom
- SYSTEM STATUS: Custom
Is it related? Someone help plz...
The question is do i really have to install a new rom, now that the tablet is rooted with CWM on it, can't do any manipulation to allow the chinese rom to accept google playstore etc...
My biggest problem with the chinese rom that comes with it is that i cant install download google playstore, i installed it but everytime i open it, it closes right away. Not google nor other google apps available neither since it was sold in china...

And the fix permissions option should be in 'advanced' section in CWM(not sure, I use TWRP recovery)

In the end, I just used a previous version of Odin (3.4 instead of 3.9) to flash an original stock rom.
Now the problem is that I have a new CWM that works with the volume up, volume down button, and this menu:
- reboot system now
- apply update from ADB
- apply update from external storage
- zipe data/factory reset
- wipe cache partition
- apply update from cache
Since the rom is not really good, i wanted to flash another one (one of those we just talked about), but the backup i did with the previous CWM i had (Philz Advanced CWM 6.08.90) is nowhere in the tablet anymore (i dont have any sd card) and i dont know how to make a back up with this CWM...
So now the question is how to make a backup with this version of CWM so I can try to flash other roms, or how to get the version that i had before without takin any risk of brickin the device (so i can make another backup and try to flash another)

HELP
I bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 SM-T311 in Mainland China last month and I cannot install google play can anyone help.
Hello everyone
I have my GT-P5110 since a bit more than a year and since the begin, it runs CyanogenMod 10.1.3. Everything worked fine until a few days ago, since when my tab isn't recognised by any computer (as storage but also via Odin/Heimdall) Before I could connect my tab to my Pc and it appeared as external drive. I want to give the device back to the shop to get a new one with my warranty. But to be able to get warranty, I have to reinstall the stock rom. I saw a bunch of tutorial explaining how to flash the stock via odin/heimdall. But as I told, this is not working in my case. I read, that some ROM's are installable with ClockworkRecovery (which I have still installed on my tab). Unfortunately, I couldn't find a Samsung GT-P5110 stock rom, which is installable via CWR. An other way would be to recovery with a nandroid. But because I do not have a nandroid backup, this is also not working. Could anyone help me out with a Samsung stock rom, which is installable with CWR, an nandroid backup or an other idea, how to install a stock rom without USB connection.
Thank you very much in advance.
Chip
Did you try a factory reset, that should make the tab stock again.

Could someone do me the favor, doing a backup of the Samsung stock rom with the CWM Recovery and send me this backup? This way I could restore the Samsung stock rom. I would be really glad, if someone could help me this way because it is the only solution I can see at the moment.
Thanks in advance

By flashing the stock firmware (samsung ) twice you can get back to stock os, rooting and installing CWM can give you nandroids galore.

Hi PanchoPlanet
Thanks for your answer. I tried to install the (Samsung) stock rom again. I downloaded SMO-P5110XXCMA2. The problem is, that it doesn't work to install the stock rom with CWR. I get always the following errer:
-- Installing: /external_sd/SMO-P5110XXCMA2-201301121172232.zip

Opening update package...
E:Can't open /externel_sd/SMO-P5110XXCMA2-201301121172232.zip

Installing a CyanogenMod rom with the CWR works without problem. How should I proceed to install the stock rom with CWM?
Cheers, Chip
The zip you downloaded may have to be opened (un-zipped) first and you may find a file that you will use with Odin, stock firmware cannot be flashed with a custom recovery. (Not from Samsung anyway)
Use Odin , go to download mode on Tab, connect and flash with Odin.
Main objective is been able to get download mode, run Odin on PC, make sure you have drivers installed on PC , load corresponding file (md5) onto PDA slot and tap start.
*** Only re-boot should be checked on Odin. ***

Thanks again for your help. My problem is, that my tab's usb connection is broken, and so Odin will never detect my tab (Also is my tab not longer recognized as an external device, when I start CyanogenMod). That's why I'm searching for a stock rom, which I can install with CWM or I would really appreciate, if someone could share his/her CWM backup with me, that I could install it. Maybe there are other solution to bring me back the stock rom without a usb connection. I'm open for every suggestion.
Cheers, Chip
Hi everyone
I would like to ask again for a favor. Could anyone make a CWM backup of his/her GT-P5110 with stock rom installed? This way I could get the stock rom back.
Thanks in advance
Chip
