Hey all..
I bought myself a HDMI to mini HDMI lead for my Asus Transformer. Unfortunately I can not get it to output a picture at all. I have tried it on two TV's that both support up to 1080 signal, both tv's work fine with my netbook via a normal HDMI lead.
I don't have another device to test with the mini hdmi lead.. so I have ordered another lead just in case the lead is faulty. Is anyone else having the same issue?
I saw in another forum a couple of people reporting a similar issue with the Asus and I'm concerned my device has a problem :/
Any ideas?
The HDMI lead I purchased is this one below, and I have tried it on a Samsung TV and a crappy vistron.
Cheers,
Tim

Not sure what could be the problem cause mine worked straight out of the box no issues at all
Be sure to push the cable all the way in.
When you plug in the hdmi cable to the tablet a HDMI notifaction icon should appear next to the clock. Do you see that?
It seems to only output 720p and no sound, does anyone get sound over hdmi?

Interesting is it a fixed level output of sound or does the volume on the tablet need to be adjusted?

It can be adjusted by the volume rocker on the tablet so it's not fixed

Hey, thanks for the reply.
I am not getting any HDMI icon notification near the clock when plugging in the lead. The lead is pushed all the way in as far is it will go..(the plastic of the lead is against the edge of the device).
The TV obviously see's that something is connected though as it goes from saying 'Check Signal Cable' when it's out of the device to 'No signal' when it's plugged in?
I wonder if this indicated a faulty lead.. wish I had something else to test it with
I don't have a transformer yet, but I'm on a Captivate phone. These phones have a TV-out accessory cable. There was an issue with some people's phones where they were shipped with the "TV-Out" setting turned on while other phones were shipped with that setting turned off.
Is there an option somewhere on the Transformer where you have to turn the "HDMI-Out" setting on?

Hopefully just the lead, not the tablet.
I figured out the sound issue, sound for me works if its plugged in directly to the HD set.
If I plug it in via a hdmi switch box no sound.
Good luck getting yours working.

There are a lot of stereo recievers that can pass through the video from an HDMI input, but will not output audio over HDMI. Your audio is probably still in that reciever box, but you'll have to get it out some other way. Try Component or Composite Audio cables.
Could you guys with working HDMI leads possibly let me know where you got yours from please?
If I can get the same lead (I'm in the UK) then I probably have a better chance of it working (if there is not a fault with the device).
Thanks

Hi,
I'm having the same exact problem. I plug the cable into my Transformer - nothing. I've tried to set my monitor to look for it, but it finds nothing. I see no notification on my tablet.
Here is the cable I'm using:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330550984450&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
Fortunately, my buddy also got a Transformer (we both ordered from Amazon at midnight on the 26th) so I can test the cable on his device. I'm going to assume if it doesn't work on his then (luckily) it's not my Transformer that is faulty. Then I either have a bad cable or got the wrong one (can anyone confirm if the cable I purchased should work with the Transformer?)
Thanks.

Good luck with the test.. it seems this issue is becoming more common. Could you let me know the outcome as it will be useful troubleshooting my issue.
I'm tempted to go and pay £20 for the cable listed as working above..but what I really need is to test it with a known working cable.
another little update... I realised that my Canon camera has a mini hdmi output that is supposed to output video. The cable I have does not work with the camera either! So I'm hoping this is a good indication that the cable is the issue.
OK my issue is resolved... it was the cheap cable from eBay.
I bought an expensive cable from Maplin and it works fine.. the output from the tablet is grainy/crap and probably not worth the £20 I spent to get it working but at least I know the device isn't faulty
For once it obviously was worth paying for the better quality cable.

Just wanted to add.. the second cheap HDMI lead I ordered from eBay worked fine (picture is still a bit crap though).

I avoid eBay for any kind of cables. If you're in the US, Monoprice has dirt cheap cables that I've used on lots of different devices without any issues. Not sure if they distribute overseas.
My hdmi only outputs at 720p as well. Isn't this thing suppose to output to 1080p? I have the official 3.1 firmware installed.
ASUS EEE PAD TRANSFORMER 00423
Problem: When i plug in the HDMI type C cord to the transformer it works great. When I go to play videos such as Youtube or Any video type via HDMI to tv it flickers constantly. Sometimes it will work and sometimes it will completley disable my devices screen and TV and I will have to hard reset. I was wondering if anyone else ran into a similiar problem and if it could be the HDMI cord ? Thanks
+1 on this. Not sure what kind of cord I have, but mine flickers too
I havent tried mine yet
Have you guys made any progresson this? I just got my cable and i am having the same issue.
I am currentlyon 3.1
No .... Nothing Yet ... I just ordered another cable to see if that is the problem .. Should be here tommorow
Make sure you use mini HDMI 1.3a cable.
Mine works perfectly with youtube, UPnPlay and moboplayer
I had some issues with my TF and my Sony Bravia HDMI connection and the problems were cleared up by performing a firmware update for the television itself. I have no idea if that would help your situation, but in my case a firmware update cleared up all the connection problems I was having.
Good luck,
DM
I went to use HDMI output for the first time on the transformer today. I plugged it in, received the notification icon that HDMI was connected and the audio on the TF muted (redirected to the HMDI port), but I see no video or sound on the TV.
I know the cable is ok because it worked with my archos tablet.
The cable is pluggged in all the way and I've tested on two ports.
Any suggestions?

I have the exact same problem! Do I really have to root and apply a custom rom to get this feature?
i tried today to hook up my hdmi with 1/2 success. I get picture but no sound...
HDMI was fixed for me in one of the past ASUS updates - maybe with Honeycomb 3.2...
My biggest annoyance, however, is the fact that the bottom bar gets cutoff on my TV, so I can't access the back, home, multitask and menu buttons when using my bluetooth keyboard/mouse... kind of a pain.

What you need is custom kernel, not custom rom. The problem is compatibility issue with certain name brand tv's. I highly recommend clemsyn kernel. It's compatible with most tv's out there.

He's right. I had the same problem with hdmi out and solved it with clemsyns kernel.
But then came another problem, video subtitles doesn't show on the tv u.u
I just flashed Clemsyn's latest, Version 22A. Still nothing on my 32" Vizio, and I get glitchy static and half functionality on my Insignia 32" *Best Buy Brand*. And what does work, I don't have the bar on the bottom either Anyone have expirence with Vizio? I duno if it's the TV but from what I have seen Vizio doesn't play nice with any PC type inputs
I've had a TF700T since the release day...upgrading from the Prime and the TF101 before that. When I first received it, I tested out all of the features, including HDMI out, to make sure that everything was in working order. I even watched a few movies using the HDMI out. Now, all of a sudden, my tablet does not seem to recognize when an HDMI cable is plugged in and connected to a TV. I've tried several different cables and TVs, including the ones it worked on/with previously, and nothing.
Does anyone have any ideas on what could be causing this? I have a few video players installed, and thought that one of them might be causing the issue, but they were all installed on Day 1, and there when it was working before.
Oh, and I'm not rooted or unlocked. Running with stock firmware for now.
You thoughts/assistance is much appreciated.
wouldnt know what to suggest except a factory reset
try a reboot, reset?

Haven't gone the reset route yet...I'm sure that will probably fix it, but it just seems like a royal PITA. Since I'm pretty sure that JB is around the corner, I'm going to try and hold out and hope that fixes it. If not, I'll wipe and re-install. Was hoping that someone in the forums might have had an alternate solution.
I had the same happen to me with my Prime. The 1st time the hdmi port was actually loose and I had to rma. The 2nd Prime it happened again but when I brought it back to best buy the Greek squad did a factory reset and it started working again.
If the connection is not loose, try a factory reset (I know - it's a pain). If not you may need to RMA.

JB install will very well fix it. Not because JB might have a fix, but because installing JB will reset your tablet.

I have inconsistent successful HDMI connections with both the Infinity and the Transformer Prime.
The simplest solution is just to unplug and replug the HDMI cable from the tablet if you don't see anything on your TV screen when you plug it in the first time. It will usually show on the HDTV screen, after a quick disconnect reconnect of the cable.

I'm not sure. My thinking, check your cables on other devices to confirm they're good. I had an issue when I got mine, but it was a short in the cable. I thought it may have been the port at first, but tried a second microHDMI cable, and no issues.
Other than that, what have you updated or install prior to last using the HDMI port? DId you try uninstalling those apps? There may be some kind of driver conflict.
When you have the cable plugged in, see if you get the HDMI options stuff in settings. Maybe there is setting you can change that may help. I know it shows up when the cable plugged in, but I don't remember what settings you could change other than stuff with 3D.
I have the same problem!
I've been connecting the tablet to a Samsung monitor via HDMI for three days now, succesfully too. I then went to work, connected the tablet to a display via VGA, and it worked. Tried again in the afternoon with the same monitor, randomly didn't work. Came home, now the HDMI randomly doesn't work! What is going on there?! A factory reset just for HDMI seems ridiculous but it's that or returning the tablet. No idea if the VGA converter (official ASUS) has damaged the port after I pulled it out?!
Hi there,
My tablet wouldn't turned on, but now, It is turning on but the screen is not working. The tablet itself is working, sounds, wifi, even Touch screen.
But the screen, is just a gray screen with a minimum brightness.
Anything guys?
Looks like a dead digitizer to me..... I had to return a 5 day old TF701 and it looked just like your picture there. If you can return and exchange it with your seller, do that. If that is no option and you still have warranty fill out an RMA at Asus and send it in.
You should get all your files off the tablet and Factory Reset it before you do so. MTP should still be working, so you can use your PC to copy everything over.
Another option is to use Asus Backup to back up your stuff and restore it to the new or repaired tablet. You would have to connect the tablet via HDMI cable to a TV for anything you do on the tablet and believe me: It's a PIA to hunt and peck for just the right spot to touch on the tablet's screen while looking at the TV.... But with some persistence a high tolerance for frustration it can be done.
Thank You Berndblb
I backed up all the files, and the warranty is finished. The service here told me they don't have extra motherboard in their warehouse.
I don't know what to do. I can't let this alone.
You don't need a motherboard - just a digitizer.
You could try to find one on ebay from someone selling TF700 parts.
You find tear down instructions and videos on ifixit.com. Also search YouTube for instruction videos. Check them out and decide if you think you can do it yourself. Or you have to find someone to do it for you.
Asus will do it, but that is going to cost a pretty penny.....

The digitizer is the touch screen. If there is no picture, something else is broken.
Thanks guys, I can do it, I can open the tablet and do the stuff.
I don't know digitizer, and as I said, the touch screen is working and fully responsive. The only thing is the screen which shows nothing but a high brightness page.
It might just be that one of the ribbon cable connections has come loose.

If you need to see the tablet's desktop you can connect it to an HDMI input on a TV. This might also indicate if it is a motherboard or GPU or other problem if the TV won't display the video signal.

Your statement confuses me....might be a translation?
If the TF700 is connected to the TV with a proper HDMI cable and you do not see anything (make sure the TV has the correct HDMI input selected with your remote) then I would say there are "other" video related problems.
Did you connect HDMI? Did the video show on the TV screen?

Check if the ribbon cable to the screen has come loose? (If you haven't done so already). Will require you to pop the back off carefully. See you tube vids for TF700 tear down.

(1) The lcd (display) is bad. (2) If you can still see the display (icons and stuff) in a dark room with a flashlight shining on it, the backlight is bad. In the former scenario, the lcd is around 80 USD on Ebay; in the latter, you might be lucky to find a cracked lcd display for cheap. Buy it and disassemble the thing. Salvage the backlight strip and the back frame and pop your lcd into it. Should work. Just be very careful with taking it apart. Find some detailed instructions on how to do it, like HERE. I've done it with the TF300T, busted cables on 2 of them. Cost some bucks, needless to say, but worthwhile nevertheless.
