Sensation XE - HTC Sensation

So i got a new sensation XE, i want to root it and install custom roms and stuff, but is there a high chance i could brick the sensation permanently?

There are always chances of bricking phone. If you follow guide proper it will reduce this. In my opinion if you r really scared of bricking it phone don't root or get iPhone or Nokia where you can't do anything with system OS.

i followed the guide on S-off, unlocking, clockwork, root ......
Step 1- S-off done
Step 2 - recovery done
Step 3 - Permanently root done
but when i reboot my sensation XE, it is still booting to my normal HTC screen.
how can i check if above 3 steps are really successful?
I looked under Settings, About Phone, software information and it is still showing:

Try installing an app that requires root or flashing a ROM.

1. Turn off fast boot (settings -> power), shut down your phone, hold volume down and press/hold power button until it boots into bootloader screen. If it says Revolutionary and S-OFF at the top you're ok.
2. From the same bootloader screen, select recovery with volume down key and confirm with pressing power key, it should take you to Clockworkmod recovery (or whatever recovery you installed). If it doesn't, you need to install CWM or some other custom recovery.
3. Install app that requires root, for example Titanium Backup.
If everything is ok, then you can go ahead and flash a custom rom from recovery if you want.

This is an unsigned PD98IMG so you must have S-OFF and it won't touch your data or cache partitions so you should clear dalvik and cache, and you may need to do a full wipe if you had an EXT4 partition before, or some other oddity with /data so backup (titanium and nandroid just to be sure). All AT&T bloatware included.
Instructions: Download it, rename to PD98IMG.zip, copy it to your SDCARD, then boot into hboot (hold VOL-DOWN and press POWER) then let hboot finish its check and then hit VOL-UP to install.

Well, your tool is stripping it as it's superfluous more or less. If I type 01234 into my calculator, it just shows 1234. MD5 is just a hexadecimal number. Leading zeros are treated the same as decimal numbers.

"Unlocked" as in carrier unlocked? That's not the same as S-off.
S-off in the bootloader means you can flash unsigned (unofficial) images. S-on means your phone will only accept official images.
Football's RUU in the OP can be flashed onto a stock Inspire (S-on). The rooted image several posts down requires S-off as it's not official.

Hi,
If you flash the 3.24 firmware,it has the 11.21 radio included inside.
You do not need to flash it separately.
If you are trying to upgrade to ARHD 6.1.0,then:
flash the firmware 3.24,
take the sd card out,
delete the PG58IMG.zip from your card(in your pc)
Put the card back in ,super wipe, and install 6.1.0
you cant use fasboot flash on hboot 1.23 only hboots that allow this is 1.7.x and i believe 1.27
An easier way would be to install firmware file for new ics or old ics on root of sdcard. Boot onto recovery ( ext4) flash ROM, then on ext4 in menu hit power option, reboot bootloader. flash firmware. Reboot . After reboot delete firmware file from root of sdcard.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using xda premium
I keep PG58IMG.zip files on the download part of sdcard. I just rename them PG58IMG_3.12 or 3.24. zip. Then when I'm going to change roms I use root explorer to copy PG files to root of sdcard. Rename by deleting _3.12 or _3.24.

Just to get this right...
1.) Put the firmware file that I want to the root of my SD card.
2.) Use the actual application for 4EXt on my phone to reboot into recovery.
3.) Flash Super Wipe, Flash ROM
4.) Reboot to bootloader
5.) Flash firmware
6.) Reboot
7.) Delete firmware when I'm on my new rom and can connect it to the PC again.
Won't I get asked to flash firmware between steps 2 and 3, or will I get directly into the recovery, although I have PG58IMG in the root of my SD Card? I'm not sure about that one.
You should be able to flash Rom. If you are not on the right firmware, you will boot loop. So after flash, in ext4 use power option , reboot boatloader it will flash firmware.

Well i already figure out why i couldn't flash my radio and other staff, the fastboot was lock. When i download the revolutionary firmware v3.24 extract it on sdcard, then flash that darn thing. After flashing, i just thought maybe i could try again to flash radio, splash1 (that sort..) using fastboot commands viola! it works.. eveything works!

Hello kolokoy,
With regards of your issue, I suspect that your Bootloader would read LOCKED.
This happens because of the Firmware installed when you were installing ARHD 6.0.3, This happens to be the older version of the Firmware problem where the Fastboot commands are disabled. To rectify this issue, you can try the following.
1. Install a newer RUU(firmware) Keep in mind 3.24/3.25 RUU Only Runs HTC Sense 3.6 and above. - may not support ASOP 4.0.3
2. Then install the new ARHD 6.2.1
3. Only after installing the RUU package and ARHD ROM, install the latest Radio. Make sure that the Bootloader reads "REVOLUTIONARY"
You should be fine with that.
Cheers! Remember to thanks me if it helped

[Q] HTC Sensation XE update to Android 4 failed

Hi
I've recently bought the Sensation XE which was SIMLOCK to T-mobile network.
I've follow this tutorial to root and remove simlock.
[Guide] to Installing S-off, Unlocking, ClockWork, Root, SuperCID & S-on
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300
Now when I try to do software update to Android 4 OTA from HTC I can download the update and when phone reboot it freezes with " ! " on the screen.
After this I have to remove the battery and power on the phone and it boots in Android 2.3.4
Can someone tell me how to upgrade to ICS from HTC ?
Have you set your CID/MID correctly?
No, I've stop after step3. and didn't set CID because I've rooted the phone and remove simlock so I can use SIM Card from other GSM provider.
Do I have to continue to step 4 ?
You have to have the stock recovery installed on your Sensation. It will not flash with Clockwork Mod Recovery or any other custom recovery.

OK, so lets start from the beginning...
Which ROM are you currently running on? Did you flash a new RUU? If so, you will also need to change your CID/MID to get the new update
In software information there is:
Android version 2.3.4
HTC Sense 3.0
Software number 1.73.401.4
Kernel version 2.6.35.13-g2299e28
[email protected] #1
Baseband version 10.58.9035.00U_10.15.9035.02_2
Build number 1.73.401.4 CL161971 release-keys
I didn't install custom RUU.
In a process of removing SIMLOCK I've also follow this tutorial
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1232107
metod 2.
I got a question cause I am not really sure from your first post. Did you download the OTA update via a notification for the update on your Sensation? Or did you download the OTA file to your computer either from XDA or another site?
I've download the OTA update via a notification for the update on my Sensation.
Guys
Any idea?
I've fix it!
I've flash it with RUU_PYRAMID_LE_HTC_Europe_1.73.401.4_Radio_10.58.9035.00U_10.15.9035.02_2_release_220036_signed.exe
and after that I've update to ICS with OTA update.
Thanks for your help!
Rooted phones can't update to stock via OTA. During the root process your recovery has changed from stock to custom. That's why you got ! and can't install the update. Installing RUU your recovery came back to stock again and that's why you successfully installed the update after that.
Hi,
I am new to this forum. I am having HTC Sensation XE with
Android 2.3.4
HTC Sense 3.0
Software number 1.73.707.4
Baseband version 10.58.9035.00U_10.15.9035.02_2
I have rooted my phone with Revolutionary tool and I am able to use ABD command.
Now the problem is I got the latest android 4.X upgrade via the upgrade utility and it failed to upgrade. (Got ! symbol and restarting the mobile came back to 2.3.4 Android)
As per the instruction I tried running the RUU_Pyramid_hTC_Asia_WWE_1.35.707.1_Radio_10.43a.9007.00U_10.51.9007.27_M3_release_198358_signed.exe file to fix the issues. (I am from Malaysia, so I selected the Asia files).
But I ended up with a error stating that my battery power is less than 30% and it failed. I tried the exe file with the mobile in fully booted way and in the boot loader level (by holding power button + volume key). But nothing did the magic.
From the log I am to see that some thing is getting failed. "<T002411><DEBUG><OUT>- exec '/system/bin/sh' failed: Permission denied (13) -</OUT>"
Attached the log file also.
Please help me.
Thanks

and what about phone data?
will all contacts, images, and settings deleted?
Yes, they will be deleted.
That's why you need to sync your data first.

That RUU won't work for the OP unless the OP has Super CID as he's on the Asian build not the EU one

and how exactly did you flash?
when i downloaded the RUU, which you linked above and ran ... it gave me the following error
goo.gl/zWwgu
it's in russian, but it says that i haven't connected my phone to pc with cable.
But i have, i've tried several options, Charger Only, Disk Drive, HTC Sync, but none of them helped, not even turning on/off usb debugging mode.
so is there anywhere step by step instructions how to flash ? i couldn't find it

Help reverting back to stock

Hello,
Obviously, I have a HTC One SV that I bought second-hand and it came custom modded / custom firmware.
I am a newbie regarding Android or HTC modding. I know my way around computers, linux included.
I tried to do this on my own, but there's a lot of terminology like S-ON/OFF, hboot v1.x..., recovery this, custom that and it all seems a mess. This is not well documented at all.
If someone would be kind enough to tell me what I need to do to go back to stock (as close as possible), I would very much appreciate.

Still up...
Well, i don't describe this way everyday (or second day) again and again...
In short sentence: get S-off with moonshine.io, get supercid with fastboot command and then follow my guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2386426
About the technical questions (what is S-off or fastboot) you will find your answer, if you make search on xda or google.

Ok, so I've checked moonshine, but the version is a missmatch.
Moonshine says it needs for the k2_u: 2.14.401.107 and I have 2.14.401.6
Thanks!
%edit: wierd thing, my phone has LTE (at least it appears in the "Mobile data -> Network mode" menu), shouldn't it be k2_ul?
%edit #2: I checked *#*#4636#*#* > Phone information and the selected "mode" is GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto. There's LTE ony available, if that counts for anything.
You have a k2ul rom on your phone (i guess, it Saturn III). But that does not bring you Lte (even when its available in options).
It is a k2u, when it is written in the bootloader.
Hm, i'm not sure, which version to use in this case.
But you should be able to install stock k2u rom with Twrp recovery. Make a backup and and full wipe before.
Also flash SuperSu.zip, you need root for moonshine. Then use the moonshine version for k2u.
All what you need, you'll find if you follow the link in my signature, in my index thread.

Should i go with
TWRP 2.7: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=41456540#post41456540
or
TWRP 2.6: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2357107 - the download links are dead, but I've found them elsewhere, although I'm not sure they are ok.
Thanks a lot!
This one should be good to go with you hboot: http://d-h.st/NXX

Ok, done (had some problems with fastboot, everything ok now).
I did the backup and removed the SDCard (paranoia) and now I want to do the full wipe.
Should I do the Factory Reset (Wipes Data, Cache and Dalvik .android_secure) or an advanced wipe and check everything?
What ROM should I flash?
%edit:
Is this OK?

Advanced, and tick everything except int & ext sdcard.
Rom should be ok.

Ok, I've installed that ROM, but now the wi-fi doesn't power on.. it says "turning on..." and after a while, it says "error".
Should I proceed with Moonshine?
Did you flash boot.img in fastboot mode?

That fixed it. My bad...
One question, after getting to complete stock, can I do S-on back?
Yes, you can. But first get S-off. Then the next step.

So I had to switch PC-s and I'm now sitting at a 8.1 desktop. I'm trying to setup adb and fastboot. Be right back with moonshine preparations.

Nice
Now look into your bootloader: If it is ***LOCKED*** and you don't see "Tampered" and the system is completely stock (no root or Superuser or something) you can set your device S-On again.
But at least there is no need for atm. If you get in trouble, S-off is the better way if it needs to be rescued.

It was locked, no tampered flag!
I unlocked it, TWRP 2.7.x recovery and rooted. I'm gonna leave it S-OFF and create a backup (nandroid), afterwards, removing useless stock apps like chrome, google music player, finances, stocks, etc
