Strange Issue - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Okay so I've had absolutely no problems with my Transformer for the past month.. But the strange thing is that if the device is powered off and detached from the dock, it won't power on. If i connect to the dock, it works just fine.. The power button works great as well, no problems sleeping the device while undocked, just when its powered off, it will NOT turn on without the dock...
Any ideas?

I have noticed on my transformer that I've always had to hold down the power button for what seemed like an unusually long period of time before it actually turns on. Seems like between 5 and 10 seconds..

Isn't that the usual? I mean, in my case I hold the power button for 3-5 seconds and then it starts 2-3 seconds before.
I think the TF doesn't behave like the rest of mobiles, since in a mobile phone just tapping the power button should turn on the phone, but here it doesn't do nothing. Maybe its due its nature, to avoid unintended turning on the tablet.

Maybe its the button itself... or the ROM.
I've red other cases where the button didn't work but the tablet turned on as soon as they plugged the charging cable. Since the dock has battery and gives power to the tablet, maybe thats why it turns on.

The button works just fine.. Im saying it will only turn on from an (off) state if its connected to the dock.

[Q] Not Working Out Of Box

I received the device at 4 today, opened it and found, to my dismay, that it wouldn't turn on. I tried holding the power button for 10 seconds and 30 seconds, after ten seconds my device makes a clicking noise, but nothing else happens. I've tried holding the power button and the volume up and down buttons ( they are not sticking), also with no results. When I plug it into my computer, it does not show up. Perhaps I need to download drivers? I've also tried plugging it in and charging it, still nothing. I called Asus support and got a trainee who said they would get back with me, whatever that means.... any help or advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

That happened to me too. I plugged it into AC over night and the next day it worked. Display has sometimes problems coming out of sleep mode. Try it!
...besides: not do discourage you, but now, mine's completely bricked, display doesn't turn on at all
Wow man that sucks hope I fair a little better. I will try that tho. Asus sure is having a troublesome release

Give it a few hours on the provided charger. Then hold the power button 10 seconds. Then wait 2 minutes. Then try to turn it on again. If that does not work, leave it overnight on your computer USB in case there is something wrong with your charger.
Just an idea.
I'll try that tho my charger gets warm but my transformer does not

Mine happens to be charging right now, and the machine does not get very warm at all, but the charger gets fairly warm, so that might be normal, I don't know.
That makes me feel better lol

Just a thought here and its probably not the problem. But did the Plug attachment on the transformer click into the transformer properly? I had big problems with it not clicking home and had to actually file down the little T notch on the transformer until it clicked home!!

That's why I was thinking that he could put it on the computer's USB overnight, it won't charge up all the way, but if there is something wrong with the transformer it might be enough to get started.
My battery was dead out of the box. After a quick charge it turned on at 5% battery life.
so i left it pluged into my computer all night and still nothing. its a bit wierd tho my computer is telling me i have new hardware connected but it will not let me see it. so i dont know what to do i guess im going to have to RMA. anyway thanks for all the help
I think the problem most of you are having, especially when just starting to use a new device, is a combination of a fairly low/flat battery coupled with the default lock screen bug, which causes the display to not function correctly occasionally. So start off by charging it up, then doing the 10+seconds force power off method to make sure its off. Then press and hold the power button for 5-6 seconds to do a normal power on. This way it should boot up properly, avoiding the lock screen bug to start off with, make sure to keep the display alive until you unlock the screen, then change the default lock screen to something else, or simply disable it totally.

It seriously sounds to me like you could also be in apx mode.Make sure your volume up button is not sticking.
i thot that too but i can not even get into the bootloader

[Q] Won't wake up after a few hours

My transformer wakes up fine after a minute or two, but if I leave it for 5-10 minutes and hit the power button, nothing happens
I can long press, then press again (rebooting), but I can't get the darn thing to "wake" back up after some downtime
any ideas? Am I missing something obvious?
Mine just went to sleep and i can't even get it to re-boot.
Had it less the 24 hours and now seems dead when on 90% battery
Any idea's?
kk it is re-booting when held down for about 15 secs, when i plug in to the PC with usb and how the power down you get the disconnect noise to say it is powered down.
Odd its getting stuck in sleep as it was on sleep having charge all last night and woke up fine this morning.
Just want to make sure you are rebooting correctly ... hold the power button down for 5 seconds then let go and wait for a couple seconds, then hold it down for a couple seconds to turn it back on

yer just the 5 secs feels like forever when it wouldn't turn on. :S
I hate it when your new toy's act dead.
Not sure it's related, as I don't have my Transformer yet (thursday or friday it should be here!), but I had a similar issue on an Archos 101. Turning off the screen timeout resolved it.
Seems like when you put it into 'sleep' by tapping the power button, if you let it sit longer than the screen timeout was set, it would, well, turn off the screen... and you couldn't turn it back on.
Had to do the whole 'hold the power button for X seconds' to force it off, then turn it back on.
Just wondering, might be something to try - turn off the screen timeout and see if it wakes up OK.
Trust me bud, I know. And what's worse, you can't return this one and get a new one due to supply issues (you would have to wait a long time for your replacement)
I also have some light bleed issues, those I can live with... this I cannot

Not possible to turn on

I recieved my TF700 yesterday, tried to start it up but shut down immediatly.. Charged it some but took it out again to plug it into another outlet.. I charged it until the LED became green, but neither a power og vol- and power will turn it on, any things to try before sending it in again?

Try press the power button for 5-7 seconds to see whether it starts up. This might work.
I had to hold my power button a full 10 seconds! I was sure I had gotten a brick! But it's been fine since. I would also recommend you avoid the temptation to use it right away and give it a full 8 hour charge first.
Yeah i have tried that, have tried for a minute also, nothing

Is the power really still on? What happens if you connect it to the PC/MAC via USB? If power is off, I think sometimes you don't need to hold the button too long in fact I remember getting multiple vibration as you explained but instead of holding for too long I just held for couple seconds and it turned on.
Nothing of the usual works, just thought if there was a button combo to do a full wipe, other than power and vol down
Nothing happens when plugging into pc

No, there is no magical combination, although you might give the reset hole a shot before RMA'ing your unit.

not charging?
I bought a 32 gb tf700 from Best Buy. Decided I needed a 64 gb instead so returned that one and ordered a 64 gb. Got that - charged for 8 hrs and it would not turn on - tried all the resets/methods that I could find on the web. I returned it to Best Buy and ordered another. Got that in and the same thing. Would not turn on for anything. I then realized that the wall connector was not warm (it was very warm when I was charging the 32 gb tf700 which worked fine). I also ordered a dock/keyboard so I plugged that in and it indeed did charge so it was not the charger. I connected my tf700 to the dock thinking I could then turn it on - still nothing. The tf is wonderful (based on my experience with the 32 gb tf700). However, I've read numerous posts saying other people have had issues turning their transformer on. Is the quality control by Asus that bad or am I just one unlucky person? Any ideas before I return the tablet and dock to Best Buy and go to a different company's tablet?
Thanks
Eric
Think i was just unlucky, you even more so.. I ordered one with keyboard instead, works great!

stock transformer always shut down when inactive for a while

It seems like whenever I leave my TF700 inactive for a while, it is always completely shut down the next time I pick it up, even if it has plenty of battery left. This latest time I did notice that the dock battery is totally drained (and it is almost always docked), but the tablet battery is at like 90% Transformer is stock/locked. Not sure why this is happening, but it's really annoying to have to turn it back on every single time I pick it up....
This doesn't sound like the norm, i didn't see this issue with my first infinity.

How do you turn it back on?
Few seconds of power button press, or a longer press (like 10s+) ?

I have the same problem with my brand new TF700T .. I had for a little over a week now and it does the same thing. I have to hold the power button for 10 seconds or more for it to reboot. I don't have the keyboard dock ...
I have been finding a few threads on forums about it but not that many so I'm thinking of exchanging it for another one.

[Q] The buttons won't work.

Hi, recently, my siblings were playing with the tablet, I didn't know what happened to it, but then my brother showed it to me and the power button seems to work, but it won't turn the screen on, and the big volume button is sticky, both doesn't work, I'm guessing they spilled juice in it or something. So is there anyway to fix this?

Open it up and clean it out? No I have no idea if you can still unlock the screen then you should be mostly Ok. The power button is important

If the screen turns off, I have to plug in the charger so it turns on.
