S2 LTE & Skype - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Does Skype video work on the S2 LTE? I didn't find anything on here, but from what I've searched on Google, it doesn't seem to work for a number of people. What's the verdict here? Anyone on here that uses it themselves? Help is much appreciated. Thanks.

Skype works fine for me. The wifey sometimes will hop on my transformer while I'm at work and we'll have ourselves a video chat.

Works fine for me. I've only done it to a computer though, not another phone.

Thanks guys. But has anyone done from phone to phone? Or even more specifically, from the SGS2 to an iPhone 4?

Yes I routinely Skype to my family in the UK and they use the iPhone4. We have no issues at all, it works great!

My camera will not make the switch when I go to landscape. When I do I look like I am walking on the wall

How did you guys get the video to work. I tried Skype to a computer and no video just audio. Didnt even find how to turn on the camera.

Make sure you have video enabled in skype settings. The skyrocket isn't officially supported so you have to check the option to turn it on.

My brother and I both got skyrockets on the same day. Skype was one of the things we tested first. From skyrocket to skyrocket it works great.

I've tested between S2 LTE and iPhone 4 and it works fine. Quality isn't top notch, but it does warn you before hand that Skype isn't certified to work on the device, whatever that might mean.

Tango's front cam doesnt work properly, it shows it sideways and zoomed.
I'm looking for something that would work with my google talk contacts.
"Vtok" does that, and video works, but there are 2 problems:
- Low quality sound and video, no way to change that
- Doesn't recognize front camera on Infuse.

if you've actually tried Tango on the Infuse then you would know that the orientation of the screen is wrong.
Use Qik Video Connect.
So Qik is the only option? Does that work for video chat to a computer or iphone?

Give Fring and Tango some time. They will fix this.

Yea, I've already emailed tango about the issue. They are aware and have a fix on the way. My friends galaxy s 4g had the same problem til tango fixed it.

The fring developer asked me for some of the files from my Infuse and I emailed them to him, so hopefully, this will be fixed shortly.

They sent me a new version of Fring, based on the files I sent, and...
...still uses the wrong camera. I replied with the results. Maybe they'll get it right next time.

I wish that was in English, I'm pretty sure there was something important in it somewhere.
Just tested Qik. Called my friend who was using an Atrix 4g. The call was great. It used the right camera on the Infuse 4g. Love the app now.
Im basically the odd one out in family using non iphone4. They using fring flawlessly but i just cant get the feont cam to work, otherwise the sound and back camera is great quality. Just d/loaded qip and hope it'll work.

Video Chat Google or Skype

Neither are officially supported yet, does anyone have a hack apk?
Would be nice to see the old man when i am overseas.
Thanks!
you may try this(works on gingerbread):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16643098&postcount=1193
plz note i have not personally tested this
I tried the Skype version linked above and on wifi, it worked great. Haven't tried it yet on 3G.
Have not tried Google
Skype work great for chat/calls, but video chat uses only the back camera for now till GB is out
If your going from mobile to mobile use Tango, it works flawlessly, and works with both cameras
Also qik video didn't fail me either

G talk works but the front facing camera sends your video feed horizontal when our should be verticle.
Qik seems to work the best for me although the speaker volume is low. I use my ear buds and the volume is usable.

Once GTG recovers from burnout, his Rogers-based GB ROM (which runs on AT&T phones) should become available again.

Thanks guys i can call on sgs2 but cant from skyrocket from contacts whats the wrong with original samsung video chat on skyrocket?? i want call samsung to samsung face to face not on skype or somthing else .. .any idea?

The only "original" Skyrocket video chat I can see is Google Talk. By default video chat only available via WiFi connection, for 3G/4G video you'll need root and manually edit some database entry:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1063767
Tango works just fine on unrooted devices over 3G or LTE. I use it all the time with my kids.
Thank u i ll try

Call Recorder App...that works??

Hello all,
Wondering if anyone can recommend a good call recording app for the Skyrocket? One that actually does work? lol
I've tried a number of them and none work at all. Those that do work only on speakerphone. One that I managed to get working was not stable and extremely poor sound quality.
I find it hard to believe there isn't an app that does provide this functionality for this particular phone. I've always found a good one with all other Android phones I have owned.
Hoping somebody out there found one or tweaked one to get it working properly?
Thanks,
--mike
Hi, I've call recorder from skvalex. It works great.
Do a search on skvalex on the market.

are you referring to this one?

If so, I tried it and still did not work. Have tried all of them.
Are you running stock ROM and stock Kernel?
Thanks,

I'm using that one too. Works fine for me. Stock rom rooted.
Ahh, nice. That one attached did work. Not sure why the other one would not.
Thanks! Works great.

The app records great. Is there a way to toggle it off and on? I had to freeze it.

Thats an old version, download the new free or paid and it has a toggle while incall. Works great.

Looking for external camera.

Anyone know of a way to hook up an external camera, perhaps to the USB port? Maybe for video calling?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
Why would you do that you have a front facing camera....smh... and no your phone can't do that
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk
Actually I thought of a work around....smh...no faith. And not specifically the skyrocket. Gotta think outside the box to see the reason for a miniture camera that can video call.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
How are you gonna build a driver to recognize an input device like that on top of making it recognize a video input over USB and then activate it based on app demand when apps don't natively support it so you would have to trick the phone into thinking its the ffcamera seems like an awful lot of work for something built in already IMO.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk
Like I said...think outside the box. Bring the camera out or make a daisey chain with a simple switch.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
I thought of that after I posted it...then I was thinking it would be easier to extend the camera out and have it functional.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
The easiest way to do it, I thing is to use the Eye-Fi connect SD card in you camera. ( http://goo.gl/dxXK ) and especially the Mobile X2.
There is an app for android. I never used it but I read a lot on it lately and it seems really interesting
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1468531
don't think this does what you want but there ya go
I was thinking about being able to do video chat with someone but be able to have the camera pinned to my jacket or something slllowing person I'm talking to see what I'm seeing. Extending the lens out is easiest thing I can think of. Will check out those links though.
Thanks guys
