Wikipedia not working for me on cm7. - Kindle Fire Themes and Apps

I installed wikipedia in my kindle fire and it is showing I'm off line even though I'm connected just fine. It is working fine on my Atrix running cm7.
Any ideas?

I'd say try again tomorrow, as it might be a server-side issue. Wikipedia shut down today in protest of SOPA/PIPA that might be the issue. I'd say try again tomorrow, and see if that doesn't resolve the issue.

Okay it's working now, it didn't until I changed languages.....odd. I did a video walk through. Pretty decent app, but nothing ground breaking.

HDMI issue? Netflix

I am using stock, factory stock. The hdmi out works with videos and netflix, but the video looks choppy on my tv and goes to a black screen randomly. I have a lcd hd tv, using micro hdmi to tv, no adapters. Is this a known issue, choppy video?

The same thing happens on my phone. I believe that the phone is having trouble processing the video for both screens.
I am also on stock EE4. Is there anyone using a custom rom that does not have this problem?

I did read that somebody was using a gb leak and their issue was the video not working but for a few seconds at the beginning.

I am using stock froyo and im not getting that issue. Netflix renderes smooth. Its a little pixelated because the tv is 60in .. but other than that its hardly different than using the ps3 version of netflix

I've done more tests tonight. HDMI with netflix and recorded video from phone plays choppy on tv. Could this be the cable? It looks clear on the charge when the video is playing.

I noticed the tv screen going black a couple times, but I attributed it to me moving the phone around while i was holding it in my hand, and the hdmi cable connection getting loose. This is with a cheap $4 cable, so that may have something to do with it.
Got a new cable and it works great now.

Which cable did you get?
A $4 cable off ebay. They are all the same.

I'm having the same problem. I got the charge specifically to run Netflix through my phone to my 60in TV. The picture is pixelated and I'm quite disappointed. I was better off running it through my computer to my TV.
Are there any settings I can tweak on my phone, or TV, to correct this so I can enjoy Netflix?
Btw I'm rooted running Gummy Charged 1.9.1 and pbj with voodoo lag fix.

Maybe you could step up and explain why it doesn't work well, what is to be expected and possibly offer an alternative solution if there is one. The pigeon method of flying in to crap on something and quickly flying back out never helped anybody.

The video is optimized for mobile screens would be my guess so they aren't as data intensive as the set top box streams...when you blow an image up to 46" that is meant for 4-10" screens its going to be pixelated

This is exactly why. also netflix.does not stream all its content in hd. If you are watching a non hd stream the imperfections are going to be magnified on the big screen. Try copying an hd video (divx format or something compatible) and play it on the tv you will see a noticeable difference. You could also stream a known hd vid and check it. I think heroes is in hd.

Epix App Works on Kindle Fire

Just signed up for my free 14 day trial of epix, and tried to download the app with my kindle, but the market was pretending my device wasn't compatible. So I downloaded it to my phone and side loaded it to my kindle no problem, then just went to the website and activated it as an Android device and everything seems to be working fine.
www.epix.com
Pretty cool so far, hopefully they get enough interest from people without cable to offer this as a stand alone service.
Damn you Swype!
The website is actually http://www.epixhd.com.
The app shows up just fine on the market on CM7 (modified build.prop). You must be on stock?

Wired Magazine for Android Tablets

I recently pulled the Wired Magazine .apk from a cousin's Kindle Fire, and have found that it works well on the Nexus 7, and presumably other tablets. The current version is ̶2̶.̶7̶.̶0̶.̶1̶1̶.̶6̶0̶2̶0̶1̶ 2.9, and the only downside is that it seems like the magazine itself does not fill the entire screen while in viewing mode.
Some prerequisites:
-both Adobe Air and the Amazon Appstore must be installed (you must be logged in, too) for the app to function
-if you have an ad blocker installed, you must add any any websites that include adobe to your whitelist. Mine included "broker.adobe.com" and "stats.adobe.com". This might not be necessarily, but it is a good precaution. If you ignore this and the app crashes, uninstall it and add them.
Just install the app normally after checking the first two things. Also, you must have already purchased the magazines (at least in my testing). If you have a print subscription, I would advise creating your account on a computer, not in the app.

Thanks for this, any chance of pulling the latest version? I believe it's 2.9 or so.
Thanks! Works great on my N73G.
Just wanted to say thanks. I also have the problem of the app not filling the screen on the Nexus 7. Funny that it (presumably) works on the Kindle Fire HD, which is the same resolution.

The Kindle Fire HD is the same screen resolution, but the regular Kindle Fire is not. It's 1024x600 vs 1280x800, a short coming of ~200 pixels in each direction. This could explain the black edges. Maybe it defaults to the 1024x600 resolution unless it sees some indication of being on a Fire HD (ie: build.prop or other file). If so, I imagine there could be a fix for this to mimic the HD and get the full resolution.
OR, Wired could just release the damn app for all Android platforms. :silly:

I think you're right, but I unfortunately don't have access to a Fire HD. I think they use different versions on each different model, so that might be why. That is a complete guess, through.
I don't know if it helps but Wired is now available via Google Magazines in the UK at least.

Is it linked to a print subscription? We can get a glorified .PDF here (I'm the US) and we have to pay extra for it.

Yeah, F* that. Wired will give a free interactive digital issue to iPad and Kindle owners, but charge existing subscribers extra for some crappy PDF version that I could download for free from a number of places.
If Wired doesn't change it's tune, I'm planning on cancelling once my current subscription is over - just on principle.

Anyone else have an issue signing into their accounts? I've followed all of the install instructions and the wired app starts up normally. I just can't sign in to download any content.

On N7, Wired app says "App not owned" and redirects to amazonappstore and there I get the "App is not Compatibile" message.
No chance to click on the grey button (in the wired app) in top right corner "Current Magazine Subscribers.."

I used to get this error on my Nook Color but was able to successfully ignore it. Make sure you have the Amazon App store installed, logged in and updated. I think you also need Adobe Air. If you haven't already, "purchase" the Wired app in the Amazon app store via the web. It won't let you download the app and will say your device isn't compatible, but maybe it will get rid of the ownership message. I'm guessing here, so no promises this will fix anything.
Still not working on my n7. I've gotten it to work on my cm7 nook color, but I've tried everything on my n7. I've even re-installed the amazon app store and adobe air. I've also tried the previous version of the wired magazine apk. I get everything to install and open normally, I just can't log in to download my subscriptions. Anyone have any other suggestions?
The messed up thing about this is that it was a wired article that I was reading on my nook color that made me want to upgrade to the n7.

Make sure you disable any ad blocking software or changes made to your hosts file to block ads. This prevents you from logging in to the app.
Thanks, but I'm not running any ad blocking software (unless there's a native app on the n7 that's doing this and I'm not aware of it).

If you have Adobe Air installed, then I don't know what you can do. Try uninstalling Air and the Wired, and then re-install them. If that doesn't work, I don't know what to tell you. Wired doesn't offer ANY support so you're just out of luck.
Hoping someone can help. Running paranoid android on a note 2. Installed Adobe air and Amazon AppStore (logged in). I am able to open app, sign in, download, and install an issue...but when I go to view the issue it crashes/force closes.
Any advice?

Google play finally allows you to sign up for free subscriptions using your existing print subscription. As of today, there is no longer a need to do the Wired app dance with Amazon.

Can we use the Galaxy Nexus Netflix HD app for our S3? And are there any new HD Netflix apps that work full screen?

Am I missing something here? What is the difference between the standard Netflix app, and this mentioned Netflix HD app?
I just happened to test out Netflix the other night, and with the regular Play-store app was able to click the little "HD" button to view HD streams.

Hmm. I'll have to check again later, but it was at the bottom left of the screen, plain as day. I'm using CleanRom 2.5 with the Play store Netflix app. I'm not sure if it depends on your connection and/or the content as to if it shows up.

I've noticed it's not HD as well on my S3. I have no options to change the quality and my connection is more than fast enough.
Alright, I got a chance to check again, and of course there's no HD setting. So, I'm pretty sure I'm not crazy, but could swear there was an HD toggle the last time I tried it (maybe a week or two ago). Sorry for the misinformation -- I'm not sure what if anything changed on my end.
Update: Crap, I found out what happened -- I was thinking of the YouTube app. I really need more sleep. Sorry, guys.

So the S3 doesn't play netflix in HD?
If you go onto netflix.com with your browser than log in, go to account settings, streaming options, there is an option to raise the quality video on streaming devices at the cost of data. I have mine set in high as I have unlimited data but it uses like 1gb per hour. I honestly cannot see much of a difference

Google Play Movies

I am trying to watch my movies on my Rooted Xoom with CM10. I read that the app now allows streaming for rooted devices. This isn't the case for me. That doesn't work at all and I have reinstalled the app and rebooted numerous times. So here is what I am asking. First off is there anyway to get a real full functioning Google play movies app for my Xoom, if not how can I get the streaming to work?
Sent from my Xoom using XDA Premium HD app
I know that xoom users are using a modified gapps, I made a symlinked gapps for systems with small system partitions. I posted in the general area, but haven't got any feedback. I figured it was because you guys are used to using the xoom gapps. This is the complete gapps package, with everything included. We are still in alpha with CM10 since we got stuck at froyo, so only me and a few other devs have really used it. Our CM10 is not fully functional so I can't test everything, but everything I could test did work. Hope this might help.
