Using the Infuse on stock ROM. Do not want to install Custom ROM. Queries - Samsung Infuse 4G

I have just bought an Infuse from ebay (not received yet) and this is for my younger brother. I am just evaluating whether i need to install a custom ROM and give him the phone or just give him on stock ROM. I will be unlocking and rooting the phone as need to use with an Indian mobile service.
My brother is not a power user and do not care anything about over clocking etc etc. He has no knowledge of ROM installation or anything.
Also we would want the USB to HDMI adapter thing to work with the phone.
Are there any known issues with stock froyo which hamper the day to day use of the phone ?
Does the MHL adapter work on custom ROMs (which are based on leaked GB) ??
Can i remove the AT&T bloatware after rooting the phone ?
Any other information that you would like to give me ?

I personally had huge issues with battery life and performance before flashing a custom ROM (that one being CM7), but if you can work with/around that, you should be fine.

Bloat can be removed after rooting, I did it with titanium backup. I believe the stock leaks do have working hdmi but I don't know of any custom roms that have working hdmi righ tnow.

Battery life sucks on froyo. Look into flashing a stock gingerbread leak using odin. The KL2 leak is the best. If he is not into doing too much to his phone this is the way to go.

+1 Battery Time is terrible on Stock Rom - I hope AT&T release Gingerbread soon ( I was hoping that it would be released by now but now i have lost hope and i think AT&T might just skip this phone for upgrade ).

Ok so is the Gingerbread leak for this phone bug free ? (not the derived custom GB ROMs).
Also i would appreciate a link to the most stable official GB leak for the Infuse.
And does the HDMI work well on it ?

Hers the link.

Yes it's stable. As long as you use the stock kernel, hdmi works. Also read through this link first.

Looking for best Rom, Kernel and whatever. Priority Audio quality and stability

Hi,
Please don't burn me about a new post I've done a lot of phone research to get to the Infuse. The options for an "android development newb" are many. And not sure what a kernel and Rom is...Rom is the operating system right?
Basically looking for a stable/best operating system with priority in audio quality for headphones.
Ive read abit about the Voodoo for the wolfson chip in the Infuse. Read about a leaked version of Android 2.3.5 available but it may have some 'rainbow' effect?..
Basically trying to find the best rom, kernel and whatever, their are so many.
Thanks.
EDIT: Looking to use 'Voodoo control plus' app and 'Voodoo Screen Tuning' app so need compatible rom & kernel.
It really is going to be personal preference all the roms I have tried are pretty damn stable I have seen people really liking caty rom though prob try that first
Other popular one I used to see in google searches was MIUI, infused might be good, is it closer to stock ROM? Stock roms are probably safer ie not losing BT?
Interested in this [KERNEL]Community Kernel v8 - (7/17/11) - Voodoo sound v10
Catyrom and numas are infuse stock based roms like infused....everything works
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda premium
Miui and cm7 are not...they are aosp roms and have issues with bluetooth working..

samfirmware I997UCKI4 - Anything better/newer than this? No rainbow effect?
Did AT&T ever release official Gingerbread version?
UCKI4 is way old....we are up to UCKL2

So is ROM I997UCKL2 [2.3.6] stock, reliable, likely to work with apps?
EDIT want a good stock app not one messed with (not insult) Messed with could be improvement.
Umm yes...its stock infuse rom

Going from this download list; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1293751
"ROM" in the download title indicates it's stock (from Samsung or AT&T) & the one that says ie "Stock UCKJ4 [Rooted, Deodexed, Busybox] [2.3.6]" is the stock rom with things done to it like rooted??
Is video fine on KL2?

Video only works with that rom if you have the correct kernel I do believe.
I would suggest going here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1092021 and downloading the one with 3e recovery. That enables access to modifications such as voodoo control, while maintaining a stable stock environment. The simplest voodoo kernel you can use is the voodoo community kernel, which can be found in the infuse super thread under the android development section of this forum.
Hope this helps!
I am also new to the Infuse. I had the AT&T Captivate that I was able to flash to Rogers 2.2 and it was great. Rogers allows more control of the phone and was very stable. I then got greedy and tried to flash a Rogers GB rom and bricked my phone. I read that the Infused rom is based on Rogers but it seems to have some bugs.

No bugs in Infused. The Rogers firmware doesn't have HDMI support, because the Rogers phone doesn't have HDMI out. Other than that, Infused is the best stock ROM for this phone. Once AT&T releases GB, we'll probably get another update, but there's no bugs. If you flashed an Infuse ROM on a Captivate, well... there's your problem. I can't tell from your post if that's what happened or not.

I disagree that the infused is the best ROM. Its a good ROM, but IMO CatyRom or Numas, are better. I ran infused for a long time as well as a lot of Ports. The Ports are fun, lots of customization and bells and whistles, but the 2 I mention as well as the infused are the best for what you're looking for I think.
Infused is outdated though.
I prefer these because they are native to infuse.
I suggest
1) CatyRom
2) Numas
3) Infused v2.3.3
The ICS version of Caty has a MIUI music player that is awesome. Also there is a free app called audio FX that I use for an eq and its great.
X,
Sent from my flashy Infuse.
Might try Catyrom, but probably will one of the latest leaks "ROM I997UCKL2 [2.3.6]" or "UCKL2[Rooted, Deodexed, Busybox, and CRT off]" I'm led to believe theyr both stock.
If I go with first UCKL2 I will need to root it to run the voodoo apps. If I root it will I lose video and HDMI? If so how do you fix it? Would I be better to go with the latter UCKL2 (already rooted)?
Note I may be upgrading from froyo (I havent got the phone yet).
Also not sure on the flashing procedure, I found this; any good or bit outdated? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1318160

Rogers i727r Rooting and Roms?

Last week I got the i727r from my work and was wondering if I have to be careful which roms I use. I am not on the rogers network but have unlocked it and using it with another network currently.
Am I ok installing at&t based roms in this case or do I have to be picky on what I install.
I have previous experience with rooting and installing roms, but seems like there might be some hickups.
Thanks in advance
From what I understand by reading the rogers based roms usually play nice with att but I don't know about the carrier your using.
Sent from my Xoom using xda premium
There are some minor differences make sure the rom says it will work with the rogers version of the phone.
If it's a work supplied phone you most likely should not be flashing roms on it as if you ever need to fall back to odin or if you brick it then that's not cool.
It's not I work phone I just work for a dealer so it's unlocked working with my current provider. I had no problems getting root working and tried a few roms just nothing seems to satisfy my geek yet for the i727.
Seems like most of the roms are debloated versions of the stock rom, but the stock rom works so well I am not unhappy with it.
I do understand the risks of rooting and roming I have been doing it since the HTC G1 (Oldschool android lol) just my first Samsung experience all I can say is WOW!
Thanks for the advice and the answers!
Keep the community rocking
If you flash att roms youll need to change your apn settings. And should flash red sonja rom
Debloated rogers rom is fine for now. I'm running the Go launcher with ICS theme and Roboto font and it is nice. We'll have to wait for new official roms to get some better 3rd party roms and that includes that Red rom.

Which ROMs are recommended for a SGHi727r? I have recently acquired the cell (and love it) but the guy in the store says its sooo much more capable when it isn't stock. (with stock settings, the cell would last only half a day... until I got JuiceDefender, now it lasts a full day hehe)
I was wondering which ROMs you more experienced guys would suggest. (and that would be ROMs that do not increment the flash counter of course, still not sure of how this works, however I do know how to verify it) My phone was rooted by using SuperOneClick

Be carefull
just be really careful what roms you are using i almost brick my phone twice using a i727 rom not really compatible with the i727R
so if you are not good with computer and dont know how to restore kernel, original roms and cwm to do hard reset and clean cache (cause sometime the ok button in android 3e recovery is not working at all ) with odin you will be ****ed !
im still looking for a stable version so if anyone have a good one please keep us inform
You will never brick flashing any 727 roms as far as use they should all work with proper setup pay attention to what your doing and bam problem solved

I have tried almost every rom on here, and have only had problems with certain MIUI due to the recovery i use. For Battery i found Alien ICS had the best battery it can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1608088
If you want to stay on ginger bread then i would recommend TPC found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1357506
Now I know your not on rogers but if you need name display and want to use ICS you will have have to use an UCLE2 ROM/Modem. The best way is to read a lot i did and make your own decisions and just remember as long as you can get into Download mode you can use Odin to go back to stock
I have been using the CM9 ROM's since they came out, and they are fast, no buggier than any others, and I can get quite literally 24 hours on a charge with over 2 hours of screen time. Right now I have been on battery for 2.5 hours and I am still at 96%.
I personally don't think you can go wrong with CM9, but that's just my opinion, and you know what they say about those...
I have flashed pretty much every i727 ROM on my i727r and haven't had a problem.

Royal Bank APP
Hey guys.
Just wondering is there a solution for downloading apps which are made for canadian based roms but i am use Sky ICS.
Basically it says that the software is not supported for this device. Is there a way to change the ID in the phone software so Google Play sees the device as a I727R (rogers).
Be nice if rogers would get their act together and release their rom so the community can start creating custom roms with it.
Thanks.

[q] why is everyone excited about ota ics

Seems like everyone was complaining, saying the OTA was never coming and now that it is here they are complaining again. Why would you want to go back to stock, just so you can get the official release when it is for sure filled with a bunch of things you don't want or need (apps bloatware) then you are going to root it and go flash a custom ROM anyways. I am on Energy GB ROM and I am really hesitant to flash to ICS because this ROM works so well. When I was stock I would get restarts, Sense would constantly reload and a bunch of other things. I don't want to have to flash a ROM then flash a bunch of fixes after just to make it stable just to have ICS on my device. Sorry just wanted to make a few points. If anyone could post some key features of the Official OTA ICS Update and why it would be better than a custom ROM I would appreciate it.
Final question. How many of you reverted back to stock just get the OTA and what is so cool about it?
I am wondering the same thing.. what does stock OTA ICS have over custom roms?
The only two things I can think of is (1) keeping warranty, and (2) more stability since it's an official update
A lot of times the custom roms are more stable. The GB rom I am running is a lot smoother and more stable than when I got my sensation out of the box.
I agree, on stock I would be having the device reboot all the time! Drove me Crazy!
On my custom Rom, it has NEVER done that! So I say pass on the update also! I'm running Android 4.0.3 now with custom rom, why ruin a good thing i say!

It's not always that people are looking to apply the stock rom, but sometimes what pieces they can get from it.
LOL, good point but besides working wifi calling.
my Wi-Fi calling is working on my custom Rom, as is camera, hotspot, tethering ect. I've checked them all. I'm greatful all working! These developers are Genius! I am soo thankful for them!

How do you compare the camera on the stock GB compared to the camera on your ROM now.I love the amaze camera mod on this NRG ROM.
I myself had actually considered reverting back to stock from sensation 4g running virtuous 4.02 ics, but that was only so I could get my WiFi calling back, and to see if it was any more stable..... But then I realized that since I flashed Virtuous Inquisition, I haven't had ANY problems at all, and now there's a fix for WiFi calling, so I can't imagine why I would go back to stock. Phew, I'm glad I came to my SENSEs before doing something I probably would ended up regretting, and then spending time to have to revert and re-root.
Custom roms ain't all they're cracked up to be. Too many issues. I'm on stock and rooted and it works just fine. I don't see what's so great about custom roms. Eye candy? Custom boot animations? I would rather have stability and reliability.

I think that it's not as much about the eyecandy, so to speak, but more to do with the fine tuning and tweaks available in the custom roms that you just can't get with stock. There's nothing wrong with anyone leaning one way or the other, just a matter of preference and of what you use the phone for.

I miss my bluetooth connectivity but that aside the new BB is the absolute bizness (for all the reasons previously stated). The phone even seems to handle OC'd kernels better.
I still get occasional shut down or random reboot on New Baseband with CM7.2 Official Stable
i agree with dark ma++er about missing the bluetooth with the new BB, but i have had it for a few weeks now and im running CM7.2 nightly 20120617 (i guess that is or will be 7.3?) and faux kernel without any issues whatsoever, and it overclocks wonderfully, does not overheat, reboot, lockup, nothing. solid as a rock and loving it!

New to the infuse forums (so hoping I don't get beat up too much) basically Im trying to Downgrade my brothers infuse from the att ota gb update uclb3 back to froyo or upgrade to a custom gb rom, he is super pissed at me because his phone is super laggy and im the one that updated his phone. Tried to read through stuff but got a lil confused as the title states (I think I got spoiled from the i777 forums) any how if someone can point me to a good guide to follow from rooting to installing a rom or just reverting to stock froyo and a nice stable rom suggestion that would be nice. odin method preferred as i have no experience with heimdall. again appreciate the help and sorry if this is a redundant post (puts on flame retardant suit :angel

If you can use heimdall, the simplest way is to put the phone into download mode and flash my uclb3 stock package or adam outler's stock package.
The second post in each op contains the insecure kernel. These kernels are also flashed in download mode. Once these custom kernels are flashed, you can boot into CWM and then flash the custom firmware you want.
If you are familiar with Odin, check out some of jscott30's thread. He has several Odin premade rooted firmware package that are also very nice.
Once you have the firmware you want, Zen has cooked up a few kernels that can overclock at 1400 or 1600. These will provide quite a bit of speed over stock kernels.
