[Q] Housing Compatibility? - Droid 2 Global General

What other, if any, housings fit or are compatible as replacements for the D2G?
-CC

Since the 2 phones before it (og droid and droid 2) parts are almost completely swappable, I would say that goes for the d2g as well. The d2g has a camera hump to fit the global radio, so take that into consideration, and the camera and audio jack go may be different as well.

Atrix or Infuse? Anybody switched between them?

I'm coming from Captivate and just got my hands on Atrix and first thing which I noticed how washed out colors looks like on Atrix. It appears like somebody added 3 screen protectors on top of Amoled screen the way Atrix screen looks compared to Captivate.
Another thing I'm trying to figure out is according to some links there is different speeds for 4G on Infuse and 4G on Atrix. According to URL below it's looks like Infuse 2x faster on 4G then Atrix.
http://www.phonearena.com/phones/compare/Samsung-Infuse-4G,Motorola-ATRIX-4G/phones/5119,4982
Secondly it appears both front and back cameras are better on Infuse which matters for me.
So wondering if somebody made a switch from Atrix to Infuse and found those things are true and were worth switching over?
I owned the Atrix for about 25 days. Pros: battery life (easily lasted me 18 hours with heavy usage), dual core (it was very smooth and played games very well), reslution (liked the fact that had more space on my screen cause of the resolution), speaker (very nice and loud) Cons: screen (looked dull), cameras (pics looked pretty bad even under good lighting), power button (didn't like where it was positioned), calls (people had trouble hearing me constantly)
As for the infuse, I love it! I just wish it was dual core and had a battery size like the one on the Atrix.
I haven't switched nor am I. I personally don't think anyone would switch from infuse to atrix, solely on screen dementions alone. I've played with and watched good reviews on just about every phone there is, if your going to choose the atrix I recommend not playing with the infuse too much. I'm not knocking the device or anything I'm just saying the 4.5in screen is so sweet everything else seems like a child's toy, including my resent sail of my iphone 4. As far as specs and such go, I've watch a good video on the atrix, they were comparing speed between the atrix and iphone 3gs (yes I said the 3gs) the atrix produced spotty results, and it came second to the iphone on quite a few occations. If you're up for contract I recommend buying at bestbuy, purchase one of the 2, play with it, if you'd like just exchange it and beat the restock fee that att inplies.

I just went through this last week. I had the infuse, and second guessed myself, returned it, got an Atrix, and within 2 days, i brought the phone back, and re-bought an Infuse.
The atrix is the WORST phone experience i have ever had. The screen looks like crap, even though it is higher res. it took like 2 seconds for the screen to come on from sleep at times, and the dual core doesn't really mean anything, unless you care about high linpack scores... The real life experience is far better on the Infuse. Everything downloaded and loaded faster on Infuse, over Atrix.
As for the camera, I couldn't for the life of me get a decent looking picture on the Atrix, whereas the Infuse takes great looking pictures. Also the LED flash on the infuse is whiter light... not that yellow crap on the atrix.
My advice, after owning both? Get rid of that ****rix and get yourself a real phone, INFUSE!
on paper the atrix looks like a great device. i was excited for it's release because it was one of the first major dual core phones, with a **** ton of memory. but it still wasnt enough to pull me away from my iphone 3gs.
and now here i am..
I agree with Hoofado I did the same thing and lost $35 bought it back. Atrix is the worst screen ever on any android phones I had. And I had almost all the best ones. INFUSE IS BEST.
SAMOLED
Atrix has issues rebooting randomly, which started happening for me right before I took it back. Get the Infuse. Miles above the Atrix.

+1. The reboots and the fact tethering worked maybe half the time caused me to return my Atrix within a month of buying it.
And I'm not sure what screens Motorola is using these days, but the screen on the Droid X2 is equally awful (yellow and green tones look terrible). Screen on my sister's original Droid X however looks great.

The inspire is a good phone, the only thing is the battery. That thing can't last half a day without charging. That's with very light usage. A 1230mAh battery is just cruel on a person. Great phone, crudy battery. That's what turned turned me away from the inspire

I was stuck between atrix, inspire and infuse. But I ruled out the inspire because its the older of the 3. I bought the infuse and placed my iPhone 4 for sale on eBay and, Craigslist. Someone wanted to trade me an atrix for my phone, which I was going to do but someone bid and won my iPhone on eBay for $460. I'm glad I didn't trade after all, I watched a bunch of videos and it seemed it wasn't as good as it was supposed to be. The next day I found an inspire on Craigslist for $250, I bought it for $200 and gave it to my gf to use until she upgrades. But for what I can tell it seems like a great phone, it hads a great camera (no ffc tho) a real nice screen, the battery seems fine over here (way better than our back up captivate. Its pretty heavy tho. I would recommended the inspire.

I had the Atrix before getting the Infuse and I like the infuse by far better. Yes the Atrix has better specs on paper but in reality they aren't that much difference between them in terms of speed especially when using Infused rom. As someone said earlier, the Atrix camera is terrible and it had way too many bugs. Plus I love that you can put custom roms and kernals and you cannot on the Atrix (yet).

Would you recommend the inspire over the infuse though?
I switched from the ****rix... i mean atrix. it has a lot of issues going for it. wake up lag, lag, random reboots. even thought it is a dual core phone, it really utilizes one core.
Im happy with my Infuse. best phone i've had that hasnt give me bull.
I have both the Atrix and the Infuse, I like the vibrant screen on the Infuse. I tend to use the Infuse more, only switching to the Atrix when updates are released..
I have both atrix and infuse also and i love the atrix but i have made it my back up because no matter how much i try i have got spoiled by the infuse screen size and just feels awkward when i switch back ......lol
my brother has an atrix. its a great phone, and he would prefer it to mine. they are just two different phones for two different people. he likes a smaller phone. it has a fingerprint reader, a faster processor, a higher resolution screen, and a bigger battery. the infuse has better cameras, a higher contrast screen, and its thinner. whatever matters to you more, get it.
btw g1g, i see in your signature, you are awaiting an unlocked bootloader for the atrix. go to their development forum and look for pudding. its the unlocked bootloader. theres still really no roms for the atrix but that will let you flash the semi-broken gingerbread rom.
I personally enjoy taking trips to att stores and bringing my laptop to root and fix up the atrix, which is a huge paper weight in the end, sorry to be harsh but trust me. I've put CM7 on my friends infuse and it isn't a bad phone, far better than the atrix imho, cappy still the best phone, hoping things will actually go right in July and by the end of it I'll be with a cappy and a Galaxy S II, if so I'd wait on that for july, heavy emphasis leaning on the infuse vs the atrix

Poll:How many people still use Milestone xt720 as main phone?

Im just wondering how many people still use this phone cos its a bit old now looking at the fact that quad core phones are on their way. haha but i still got like 10mnths on my contract!!
that mine only phone.
It's also my only phone (and my wife has one as her only phone too). I'm likely to be using this until it dies and I can't find a replacement XT720 on craigslist.
i sold XT720 phone because the 3g frecuencies doesnt work in my country, so i selled and bought a Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830L and it's more stable and faster than XT720
I still use it :-(
refuse to replace my XT701

Me too !
I keep my XT720 because of xenon flash and large screen for the price.
It's my only phone.
The most difficult part was that, when I first got it, it was my wife who was using it until she eventually got a phone for herself. I left it to her so she could call me at work from anywhere she might be in case of an emergency.
Let's just I was really happy when I finally was able use it. And I was even happier when I found XDA and was able to update the phone.

my main is xt720, but have (and carry almost non-stop) a proven backup, one of the lasts real Nokia`s
it is somewhat funny, but when xt720 was stock, there was reboot problems with it (probably the stock sd card was the real root cause), anyway these reboots pushed me to have a backup... and having backup made me brave, so i start playing (hard) with the xt720 ....
so the main reason people buy it because it has a wide lcd and xenon flash
same with me, but i love it because its a very rare phone right here lol, because it not officially available in my country.
If not for XDA, XT would have been ma last Motorola!! Its still ma Main Phone. Considering buying one more now!!

My Only Phone
My XT720 is my first smartphone (my old Treo 650 doesn't count; while technically a "smartphone", it is hardly so).
I know it's not the best, but it's compact and sturdy. I think with the work on porting CM9 to it I might be able to use it for a while longer.
that's only my smart phone
The xt720 is also my only phone & I'll have it alt least another 9 months. (Then I can sell it to Mioze on craiglist )
It's my first smart phone and my main phone now.
All of you at XDA has given it a new life with so many custom roms available now.
Used to regret why I bought it, but now... I think I will keep on using it until its last breath.
Thanks XDA.
i use atrix and xt720 together
but phone are great
That's my only phone. I love it. Metallic design, amazing display, loud sound when using it as music player.I got from China 2 batteries with charger for them and now the problem with short battery live is resolved. The new phones comes with plastic back coverage or unmovable battery but our phone comes with mechanism on back coverage that's is advantage for me.
Everyday - times two
A year later than your request.... says a lot about the build of this phone...
I have one for daily use and a back-up. The back up is probably going to go into service soon to replace a Defy that is having touchscreen issues.
Just ordered new batteries today. I'm running Brianli Froyo ROM. It is stable as a phone/camera but not for games.
Going to be trying out some new ROMs soon.
(In fact, if anyone can make a recommendation of which ROM performs best - no crashes and all functions - if there is such an animal - I haven't heard of a ROM that isn't missing something (like LED notification, or music player problem or video camera problems).
These phones were very rugged - even without Gorilla Glass - and the quality of the voice calls is outstanding (as is with most Motorola phones) and, of course the RF sections of the Motorola phones have always been the defacto standard - I have had 5 bars when Samsungs right next to me have only 2 (and they couldn't talk dependably).

[Q] [XOOM 2] New owner questions

Hi guys,
Just purchased a XOOM 2 (due to its slicker and lighter design although XOOM 1 is better spec and cheaper but i like sexy things ! ) from Ebay and have a few questions:
1) I know official ICS is not available but is there a decent alternative ICS ROM for everyday use or is it better to wait for extremely slow Motorola?
2) My speakers seem quite tinny and in fact i can feel one of the speakers through back of the case...is this normal or have i got a faulty unit?
3) Warranty - i don't have the original receipt but after checking on Moto website my device is still under warranty...will they repair it without the receipt, anybody got any experience?
4) I'm after some accessories such case, stylus, screen protector, dock or anything else that's out there worth having..I'd be grateful for any recommendations please as i normally end up buying three or four different sets to find out the best?
Thanks in advance....ash

To my knowledge, Xoom 2 doesn't yet have any development. It is different hardware than the OG Xoom, so roms developed for the OG Xoom won't work for Xoom2.
I can't answer other questions. Good luck and enjoy your (admittedly sexy) new Xoom2.
I agree, I think stock rooted is about as far as one can get on the XOOM 2.
As for warranty, I was able to send my Xoom Wifi (not xoom2) for warranty repair without my receipt if my memory serves me correct, because my sdcard slot was physically defective (took lots of effort to take sdcard out). The key for me was to go on the Motorola website and seek warranty help from there.
Thanks for your replies much appreciated...one question still remains of the speaker sound...mine sounds quite tinny and i can feel one of the speakers through the casing..is this normal or possibly faulty?

I guess it depends; does it vibrate when the volume is maxed out? If it does, it should be fine to have a tiny bit of vibration (not too harsh), but if it seems like it is too harsh, you might want to look into that.
If you do want to look into that, perhaps you could go to a Verizon store/kiosk (or if you're not in the US, a similar store/kiosk) and ask a rep to try playing something loud on another Xoom 2 to see if you notice the same vibration. From there you could compare your Xoom to the store's.

Better full keyboard phone than MT4GS?

I am having flex cable issues (again) and I'm looking at possibly getting a new phone and wondered if anyone had any opinions of what other options are out there for people that must have a physical keyboard on their phone. I would love to hear from others who have researched the same thing or have even tried other phones. Thanks.
Really this phone is probably the best combination of quality of keyboard, speed, performance, camera and dev support
There are some with better keyboards (HTC vision, Samsung sidekick IMO) and some faster but none that match the camera (vision probably has best dev support and then doubleshot is next)
The galaxy relay is nice and possibly the only phone you can possibly call an upgrade to this one, lg is making one that is about the same as the relay but if it doesn't get developers than this one is still better
All in all, its still hard to beat the doubleshot so for the money I would recommend to just fix yours

I appreciate your response and feel the same way. I have 2 doubleshots and this 2nd one is starting to have flex cable issues causing the hard buttons to not work. I replaced the flex cable on the first one when the keyboard stopped working then when the touch screen stopped working and it wasn't the digitizer I got another flex cable but it didn't work out of the box. I sent that back and got a used one for cheap but now the flex cable on it is crapping out. I wish I could buy a GOOD flex cable of higher quality that would last longer. It's really the only problem I have with this phone.
Now that I have two of them though it's good for being able to narrow down part problems. I would caution people buying them used though as that almost guarantees you will not have to wait too long until you experience flex cable issues (according to my personal experience).
Most helpful Demkantor. I am on my second Doubleshot (both used). The first one had flex cable issues out of the box (could not hear the caller without turning on speakerphone) so I sent it back almost immediately. This one works great (except the trackpoint goes in and out - which isn't a big deal) but I wonder how much life is left in it. Getting one fixed is tricky for me because there isn't a T-Mobile in Canada, so even tracking down parts to do it myself may not be worth the hassle.
I will make a note of the Samsung Relay as it looks like the best option for me, if and when (knock, knock) I need to go that route.

I have since abandoned that route. Weird reason ... the Relay looks to be a little too big (I have a small camera case on a lanyard I keep in my pocket so I don't lose my expensive phone).
I have been keeping watch on the LG Optimus F3Q, a tiny bit shorter but a little wider than the Doubleshot (which should still fit my case). Bonus for me over the Relay is that it comes with Jellybean (4.1), so I would rather put the XPosed Framework on it than a ROM. Still no forum yet, but there is a discussion thread (where there is an unlock method - or two, and work on the bootloader):

It appears I'll be visiting the States this fall so I will look to see what I will be getting myself into.

Photon Q vs Droid 4 mini review

Hi,
i am using my Photon for two months and i am very satisfied with it! My previous phone was the legendary HTC Touch Pro 2 - i had it for almost 3 years! Great phone, great OS...but this is history now.
My girlfriend wanted a slider with Android so i decided to buy an Droid 4 from ebay. I was curious how it will perform comparing to the Photon Q. The phone came yesterday and I want to share with you my opinions.
First impression (has nothing to do with the phone, but i want to warn you from bad ebay sellers) - what the f*^k, i ordered a mint condition phone and i received a **** condition phone?! Ok, i want my money back etc...
The sliding mechanism is somewhat heavy and hard to open. Hm, the sides of the keyboard are scratched from the sliding ... pfff - the Photon's sliding mechanism is MUCH MUCH more better! There is a little space between the two pieced on the Photon. Not like the Droid 4, where they are touching. The keyboard is same on both devices. The keyboard is great.
Photon Q vs Droid 4 - 1:0
Well, there is no camera button, OK. That is pretty lame. The power on button is weird and not as solid as the Photons. I don't like the side buttons on the Droid 4
Photon Q vs Droid 4 - 2:0
HW navigation buttons on the Droid 4 - well, that is i feature that i miss on the Photon Q. First point for the Droid 4.
Photon Q vs Droid 4 - 2:1
The screen looks smaller, ok that shouldn't be a problem. After i turned the phone on i thought, that my eyes will fall out. WHAT IS THIS?! You call that a screen?! I don't know how is it possible, but the screen on the Droid 4 is just the ****tiest screen I've ever seen on a smartphone. Even the HTC TP2 (as a 3 years older device) has a better screen! The Photon Q has an unbelievably better screen/panel, you can't even compare it in this aspect. The screen on the Droid 4 has a response time of a 2000's panel. AWFUL! I have to give the Photon 2 points for this.
Photon Q vs Droid 4 - 4:1
Now the performance. I haven't tested the phone for a longer time, but i flashed the same version of CM11 on the Droid 4 as i have on the Photon Q and i think it runs fairly smooth on both devices. The Droid 4 is with this ROM not noticeably slower than the Photon Q. There is not such a big performance drop between the two phones. The cameras are the same (but the preview in the camera app on the Droid 4 is awful - like a phone from 2004), sound quality is the same. But overall, the performance is a little bit better + it has NFC. One point for the Photon Q.
Photon Q vs Droid 4 - 5:1
Now the crucial part - the Droid 4 offers a SIM slot. Wow. So much easier than soldering a sim or reader into the Photon Q. The sim slot was the main reason to buy this phone for my GF. It is a huge advantage over the Photon Q. Well, good job Droid 4, you got two points.
Photon Q vs Droid 4 - 5:3
Conclusion: For those, who don't want to make HW modifications to their phone and are blind or don't care about screen quality  - take the Droid 4.
For those who want a good, nice looking qwerty phone and are not afraid of HW modifications - get the Photon Q! It is soooo much better...i am glad, that i didn't buy a Droid 4 instead of the Photon Q. It was worth it!
I hope this "review" helps
Funny- i had a similar "mint" experience when ordering a D4

Nice was just debating pros n cons and really like the qwerty and hardkeys. Stupid that they don't make phones with those. But WAIT are you in the US and are you implying that the droid 4 can now be used on GSM carriers!!!!???? I'll of course look into that myself but thatd be awesome. I love and miss my net10 T-Mobile completely screwed me over because I had a bad ESN from a phone i bought used and they never told actually let me buy service on the phone then had basically NO service because it would switch off and on and I thought it was just the rececption. They completely destroyed my credibility at work and ruined m,e for the time being financially. T-mobile send a text or don't allow people to activate service on a phone if the esn comes up bad, people do buy phones used and you knew that the name was different on the new service so why would you take the money and do that I could've tracked down the kid I bought the phone off of much easier had I been informed the phone was stolen. You guys suck all around for screwing me over to the third power. Sorry wrong forum for that I'm posting it anyways because T-Mobile sucks haha wont post wrongly again my apologies XDA
