Search key button getting pressed without any interaction - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Currently running CyberGR v3 ICS rom and noticed a weird behavior on my phone.
Search button keeps flickering by itself opening the 'Complete actions with' option on the screen. It keeps happening until screen is completely unresponsive and I have to lock/unlock the phone for it to work. Eventually it would happen again.
I have cleared cache, dalvik, factory reset, fixing permissions, re-applied rom from scratch (full format of system, data, cache, boot) and even changed the kernel from original GLADOS 2.7 to Matrix 14.0 (have not tried the latest ones).
Any ideas on why this happens? Hopefully I can resolve this since I really like this ROM.....heeeelp
Update: I got the issue resolved by flashing the lastest Radio I9020AUCKF1.

[Q] Can't factory reset, gives strange error in CWM

I have a US Verizon launch day Xoom that has been rooted since day one. It has been trouble free until now. I recently attempted to upgrade to 2.1 Hammerhead from MantaRay and I got this error in CWM verTiamat R4c-100611 while I was doing a factory/data reset "Error Removing /data/data/com.google.android.location/file/cache.wifi."
I noticed the error but rebooted the system anyway. When I rebooted I was now on Hammerhead 2.1, but noticed several problems. One being I lost function in the Home softkey. I also noticed all my apps and data were still intact as I left them on MantaRay. I like to start fresh with a factory/data reset whenever changing roms to avoid issues so I went back and attempted another wipe and flash of Hammerhead. I got the same error in CWM verTiamat R4c-100611. I rebooted to the same problems in the ROM.
Thinking it might be a problem with the recovery, I reflashed CWM verTiamat R4c-100611, flashed Team Rouges CWM v1.0, and finally reverted back to CWM verSolarnz 120511-2030, and got the same error every time I would attempt a factory/data reset.
I then attempted to do a factory/data reset from within the privacy menu in the ROM. I got the screen with the android and the triangle/exclamation point overhead when I tried. I also unistalled a few apps and cleared data on the google ones. No matter what I do I can not erase the data.
I did some searching around but could not find any info on this specific error. Im hoping I missing something and it is an easy fix. I'm running out of ideas tho. Any advice would be much appreciated!
Pic is of the error message I get no matter what recovery I use.

That is strange and troubling, if indeed this problem just came out of nowhere. I know that you can wipe data in fastboot, though I can't remember the exact syntax right now, but it should be available.
On edit: try: fastboot erase userdata. & fastboot erase cache
I think you do need to wipe/factory reset between Manta Ray and Hammerhead as the framework was changed/fixed, among other things.
Thanks Okantomi! Your advice worked perfect.

[Q] ARHD 3.6.5 - Black Screen

Being new to custom ROMs, I finally installed ARHD last week.
Twice, I have the issue where I can't get my screen to turn on. In the last incident: I received a text, saw the blinking LED, and pressed the power button -- the phone doesn't respond at all, except the LED keeps blinking. I have to pull my battery out and restart the phone.
This isn't related to the camera issue. (I'm not using my camera at all.)
This occured once on each kernel, faux 0.2.4 and 0.2.3.
Any help is appreciated. (Did my best to search!)
DEVICE : HTC Sensation
ROM : Android Revolution HD™ 3.6.5 XE
KERNEL : faux123 v0.2.4r

Hi,
I am running 0.2.4.r as well ,but I have never encountered any such problem.
Nor have read about any such problem for 3.6.5.
Can I ask if you wiped your cache partition and dalvik ,before your kernel installation?
Also, was your 3.6.5 installation a clean install i.e. did you super wipe?
Also,if it does lock up,you can just press volume up and down + power button.
That saves having to pull the battery.

Yes, I wiped cache and dalvik prior and after the kernel installation.
Yes, I ran the super wipe script prior to the ROM installation.
Tried to follow everything to the letter.
Thanks for the tip. I will try that if it occurs again!
A little off topic, but what exactly is stored in the cache/dalvik? When should we wipe it, whenever we install something via recovery? (e.g. Kernels, APM, CRT Animation, etc.)

Hi,
Dalvik cache is a program cache area for the program dalvik. Dalvik is a java based virtual machine that is the basis for running your programs (the ones that have the .apk extension). In order to make access times faster (because there's not JIT (just in time) compiler installed by default), the dalvik-cache is the result of dalvik doing a optimization of the running program. Sounds confusing. It's similar to the prefetch files in Windows.
Yes,wipe it before installing Kernels, APM, CRT Animation, etc.

Shutdown issue - freezing on shutdown - SkyICS [FIXED]

I was running SkyICS ROM 4.2E6.
Great ROM, liked it a lot.
I then installed the KOB4LT theme. Upon my first shutdown, I noticed it was freezing. Just a blank screen and the haptic buttons were lit up.
I did the usual, cleared cache, davlik, removed battery a few minutes, fixed permissions, etc. Nothing helped.
So I reinstalled the most recent update patch from SkyICS and that didn't fix it either. So I wiped the phone and installed the RIII base and E7 of SkyICS (very latest).
Again I loved things for a few days.
But then I used ROM Toolbox to do a little customization.
Then I installed a few live wallpapers from the Market.
And got some spam infestation as a result.
So I wiped the phone and restored from a day old Nandroid backup.
And voila... the shutdown issue is back.
So I wiped the phone again and restored a two-day old Nandroid.
And again I have the shutdown issue.
Any ideas for me to try? I spent a lot of time getting that ROM just the way I wanted and don't want to have to reflash a new ROM all over again.
Fixed it.
1) Wiped phone (again).
2) Flashed the original UCLD2 ICS leak (I727UCLE2_OneClick).
3) Flashed recovery.
4) Installed 5.5.0.4 (?) touch recovery.
5) Wiped phone.
6) Restored from backup.
7) Rebooted w/out any problem.
Thanks, I was having the same problem today and this fixed it.

[Q] Crashes at Google Sing-in

Hello, I just flashed cm9 for my htc sensation. I booted it up and it goes as far as google sign-in. I choose what language id like and then press next. It starts loading and then crashes and starts booting up again and keeps doing the same thing over and over again. I've tried reflashing the ROM a couple of times. Also tried wiping cache, delvik cache, factory reset, pretty much everything i've seen people say on threads so far. Also, this same thing happened to me before I flashed CM9. I first flashed AOKP's Jellybean and this same thing happened. I scratched that ROM and tried CM9, hoping that I'd ditch the problem. Well here I am now with the same problem and without a phone. Any help would be much appreciated! thanks!
I attached a few images of the process, maybe itll help.

S7 very slow after factory reset

I had a bug on my S7 where it would say "No apps running" when in fact there were apps running - I read that the solution to this was to wipe the cache. I booted into recovery mode and wiped the cache - but I guess I must've accidentally selected "factory reset" (they really shouldn't have them right next to each other) and wiped my phone. I'm running stock Android, the phone isn't rooted.
Since starting over, my phone is now VERY VERY slow. Just trying to wake it up can take up to 6 seconds to get the screen to come back on. I have no idea what's causing it.
What I've tried doing to fix the problem:
* I've uninstalled almost every app except what it comes with
* I've tried disabling the stock bloatware apps
* I've tried clearing the cache again (making sure NOT to accidentally hit factory reset this time)
I'm at a loss. Any ideas? BTW, I don't have an SD card in my phone.
Thanks!

When you select an option in recovery, it's very easy to see which one is highlighted before you press select, if you selected factory reset instead of clear cache, it's your own fault for not looking what you were doing, not because they are next to each other, you've been too quick and not watching the screen properly
Not only that, but when you do select it, (Haven't been into the S7 recovery yet to check, but usually) you have to scroll down a list of empty lines before you reach the Yes option to actually perform the action
That said, I would try (considering the phone is now empty) another factory reset, see how you get on after that
Not sure if FRP lock would cause any problems?

Have you restarted your Phone and sure that you not have any "Cleaner" on your device (except Sammys)?
