[Q] Titanium Back - Overwrite SMS on restore ? - General Questions and Answers

Is there a way to get TiBU to NOT overwrite existing SMS/MMS when restoring?
IE, just merge in the backed up data?
If TiBU can't do it, is there a better app that can do BOTH sms/mms and merge-on-restore?
thanks a ton!

I like SMS backup and restore

i'm quite sure that backup and restore only works on original se firmware. you have to use a third party app like titanium backup or mybackup root on custom roms. they're both free in the market.
or you can export your contacts to your sd card as a .vcf file directly from your phonebook settings and import them on your custom rom the same way.

What setting to restore JUST messages in titanium?

I have a full backup and If I select restore missing apps+system data I get FC after FC. If I just do restore all user apps and data all is fine. now the only thing I'm really missing is my sms/texts backups. Anybody know how to restore JUST those in titanium backup ? Our even just a forum and not a WIKI for TB ?
Thanks
Restoring your user apps plus data is fine but restoring system apps is never a good idea the only data I ever restore from the system is memo and bookmarks but ill give you a simple solution restore your user apps and data then if you want to use gosms to backup and restore your text messages I've been doing that for a long time
But if you must use titanium backup only backup the system data you need aka bookmarks memo and texts then just restore them
All you do to restore individual things is scroll through the list and tap on whatever u want then hit restore

to retrieve the sms you have to restore data for [sms/mms/apn] dialer storage and reboot your phone
Get sms backup and restore its much easier to manage them

Titanium withTeamhacksung and onesomic's ics

Tried to restore backed up apps with titanium backup and failed to restore apps on both builds. I used astro to manually restore apps instead, hopefully they iron this glitch out soon.

Use Gosms backup and restore. then back that up by TB.
thanks, but without having to install another app
im running an ICS rom on my G2x if that helps. is that the data i backup with TB (Phone/Messaging Storage)?

It is best to use a separate app for that. If you backup a system app with TB and change to a different rom it may not be compatible and could cause problems.
well thats true, but i guess what im really asking is does that app or whatever it is that TB sees and calls Phone/Messaging Storage contain my text messages?
i will probably install some other SMS app that backs up or backs up to gmail just in case
I never backup my apps. But i back up sms with sms backup+

yeah sms backup+ is good, i installed that, but i was right, Phone/Messaging Store is where your text messages are kept, backing that up with TB works as well

[Q] Moving accounts when changing roms

I want to give the Mahdi rom a try, and I have my apps all backed up via titanium backup, but how do I get all my google and corporate email accounts to move over? Or do I just have to set each one up again.
Only restore user app data. All system data will need to be manually configured

Indeed. I would strongly advise against backing up and restoring of system app data, you'll just have to go through the setup again.
