Easy rooting - T-Mobile LG G2x

It seems there's a tool called UnlockRoot that claims to be able to unlock the P999 while on 2.3.3. Anyone tried it to confirm it works?

yes, it works perfectly. On a side note, you will be prompted to install an app called Battery Saver, it provides a double edged sword, it does save battery, but it underclocks your cpu, it will undo that when you need to work, usually. So, the phone can be laggy at times if you have it installed and set to three.

Yes, it works on 2.3.3, its awesome.

My only issue with my charge.

So pretty often when u back out or exit an application back to the home screen all my applcations has disappeared for about 5secs then reappear. Does this happen to anyone else? Thanks stock phone too.

I've seen it happen before on my phone. It was before rooting and before debloating. It hasn't happened lately though.
Sometimes when I'm running many apps in the background or running 1 app that taxes the CPU heavily, I get something similar.
Happens to me with Gmail. I'll back out of an email to go to my inbox, and the phone looks like it's backing out but goes right back to the same message.
Does rooting fixes it?

Not necessarily. By rooting, you are able to remove/freeze all the crap that Verizon pre-installed onto the phone, which causes a lot of lag, delay, and slowed responsiveness. It wont solve all your problems though.
Also I noticed a pretty big difference when touchwiz was frozen. I don't dislike touchwiz, but due to the fact that it keeps my Charge laggy I'd rather have it removed and use Launcherpro.

Not exactly, but rooting can get you half-way there.
1) Create a file called local.prop, which contains the following line:
ro.HOME_APP_ADJ=02) Save the local.prop file in your /data directory (off of root).
This will try to force your Launcher application to stay in memory. It doesn't guarantee that you won't get a screen refresh, but it makes it occur less often.
I attached a ZIPped copy of local.prop below. You will need root access, and a file manager like Root Explorer to enable writing to your /data directory.

Has anyone tried running the V6 Supercharger script on their Charge yet? I tried it on my OG droid (only 256 RAM) and it completely eliminated these annoying redraws. The solution is supposedly compatible with any android device. I haven't had any memory issues yet, so I haven't got around to implementing it.
I ran the supercharger script and changed my settings to "mutiltasking". Everything's works great, but I haven't really had many memory issues since flashing a debloated ROM.

notification leds on 2.3.3??

Anyway to get the notification leds to flash when a text received on 2.3.3 like it does on cm7?
Their is no notification led built in

srry, i meant the button lights on the bottom
There is an app in the Market called LG 2X/Black/3D Notifications that works with the G2X. It worked without root with 2.2 but apparently it requires root with 2.3.3 due to some changes LG made to the phone.
Yup I use the one phburks suggested works very nice, the developers of the app fixed the root issue with 2.3.3, works flawless
thx
just got it, works perfectly thanks!

Nice to know they fixed it. I haven't tried it on 2.3.3 and was just going off the Market description. Lol

I wouldn't call it fixing the root issue. I just downloaded and installed the app and it required root permission to make the file writable and has to do so at every boot. So if you are not rooted it will not work on 2.3.3 on our device.
Does not work for me.

Thanks for the clarification.
is there any other app in the market that will do the same thing without rooting?

No it is not possible. LG changed the permissions on the file that controls the soft key lights in Gingerbread. It is now a read only file. In order to write to it and turn on the lights you must be rooted so the app can change the permissions.
Their always the no led app

noLED is a battery drain from my experience....

I think this one sucks compared to the CM7 one. CM7 one has slightly better options and less annoying. That is, unless someone can tell me how to not get this one to "pulse" the lights and give the option to cler with touch of home key.

No. it basically turns your screen on when you get a notification and shows icons depending on what you have...mail..txt..etc. It keeps the screen on until you check it (i think you can set it on a timer tho). But yeah..its a battery drain.

Widgetlocker + Charge = Slow?

Any Charge users use widgetlocker?
I got this yesterday and ever since I installed it my phone lags and is choppy at random times. I'm even overclocked. I don't see how people can use this on a lesser phone than the Charge if it slows it down this much.
Anybody have similar experiences?
Sent from my SCH-I510 using XDA App
I used it on my d2, d2g, and now my charge and I've never had a problem.

It works great on my rooted Charge and my wife's unrooted Charge.

What settings are you guys typically using? Maybe I am doing something wrong in my set up.
Disable stock lock screen? Root helper? Home helper (not sure what that one does)?

I'll give it another shot with easywake enabled. I am assuming that will get rid of the stock lock screen which will hopefully eliminate the weird lag and freezing I am experiencing.
I only have root helper enabled, always have. And looker i said it works flawlessly for me. I don't use easy wake or home helper
Sent from my SCH-I510 using XDA App
just disable root helper because it slows down your phone. because everytime you turn the screen on widget locker always ask for root permission if the root helper is enabled. thats why it lags your phone.just disable root helper and you wont encounter problems this is a great app

Does this actually help my phone?

Has anyone tried Fast Reboot pro? I have it automatically perform a fast reboot everytime I unlock the screen, but I'm not sure if it actually does any good for my phone. Anyone that's used it before, would you mind letting me know what you think of it, thanks?

It's prob just sucking your battery dry.
Set it to do a reboot each night or something, but not when you unlock the phone!!!
It's turning a simple act of turning the phones screen on, to restarting all startup apps on the phone, not gonna be helpful.

Yeah, just use it once in a while when you phone has been running for a long time.
I use it to... But its not a task killer it just restarts apps as if it was just booted.
Like above advice just use it once in a while and make sure you check important apps in white list ir manage list under settings to prevent it to restart the launcher etc.

Hello.
Are you on stock rom and have you unlocked your boot loader or rooted your device?
Which Android version are you using?
We can see which app is running in the background and heating your phone but for that we'd need rooted device.
However, boot into safe mode and see if it still heating up quickly.
When power off menu appears, hold restart/power off to boot into safe mode.
It'd give you a good idea about if it's some app or your device.
Alternatively try repairing your phone using Sony Pc companion and see if it fixes it.
Quote me back if you expect a reply.

As I expected, some background app you are using is the actual problem.
Use ES file explorer and see any difference. To be able to pinpoint, you'd need apps like wakelock detector (root) and maybe some battery saving app could tell you which app is draining most of your battery and might be the root cause of it

Well, try updating your app and see if you see any difference. Basically an app can constantly run in background and overload your system memory, thus can drain your battery with heating issues.
Yes, EVEN AN APP can make a big difference.
Try GREENIFY and greenify ES FILE EXPLORER and see if it gets better. (runs better on root but can be used unrooted as well)
