Hi
Firstly, I apologise if this is in the wrong section but if it is and it's moved then I'm sorry in advance!
I'm running a stock HTC Desire running Android 2.2.2 (2.33.161.6) and I tried installing the Netflix app from the Android Marketplace (v1.6.0 build 443 release date 15/12/2011).
The app has the permission to modify/install SD card contents and prior to installing I checked and had approximately 24mb free in main phone memory.
I installed the app and got the low space warning, cannot install and it quit.
Checking the storage available I noticed my phone memory had dropped to single figures so I guess something was taking up phone memory, but the app wasn't installed and there was nothing in the Market cache file.
A few reboots later I managed to get it to the point where I could actually install the app, and when I checked the app information had the "move to phone" button available so it looked like it had installed it to the SD card but the phone main memory was again down to single figures so I uninstalled it and the phone memory was back to 22+ MB free.
I've tried this twice now and am reluctant to start uninstalling other apps just to free up space to run this.
Has anybody else had problems with this application?
Thanks and regards
Sonny
Realistically apps like netflix run better on phone memory.

Hi all,
I managed to install the Froyo on my Captivate last week and it's pretty much been working great since. However I ran into one issue...
When trying to install apps, I'm getting out of memory errors and being told to manage my apps to free up space.
When I check the memory, I'm showing 4gb free on the External SD (out of 8), 11.93gb free on the internal SD, and 1.53gb free phone memory.
Seems like I have plenty of memory so I'm wondering what's going on? I don't have a lot of apps installed, only about 15, so I'm not sure what the issue is. I had way more installed before the Froyo install so I don't know if there is some setting I missed or something. Can anyone advise?

I purchased a Quickoffice app to install but I cannot. I tried installing other apps and I get the same problem. I get a dialogue box that tells me that my phone is out of space and that I need to free up some space. But my phone's intenal storage can still handle about 138MB. And the apps especially Quickoffice is just 5MB. I went to manage apps on my phone and cleared as much data as I could. I even cleared some RAM memory just to free up some space. But I still can't install any app I download. What do I do? Do I have to get my phone reformatted? Thanks.
P.S. My phone's upgraded to 2.2 Froyo and have allowed download/installation of apps from non-market sources. Thanks!
So, I just got my new G2X yesterday and loaded all the apps that I had on my MyTouch 4g before. Today I tried to download a 25MB app and my phone is already saying that there isn't enough storage space. When I check under storage it shows that I have 1.2 GB left on my internal storage. So if I have over a gig left why can't I download a 25MB app?
OK, so, come to find out that the Amazon market was able to DL apps perfectly fine so I uninstalled the Android Market updates and then it started working again. So, for what it's worth.

What would have been helpful was a better description of what you were doing, the full message you received.
The market downloads apps to a temporary cache before installing them. If you try to download many apps at the same time sometimes you will get the out of memory error. I got it on my Nexus One often. It has nothing to do with how much usable memory you actually have left. If you are downloading a large app download it alone and don't download any other apps at the same time.
Good advice. That's happened to me before.

Good call. I'll be sure to keep that in mind in the future. thanks.
Not to thread jack. where I'm having storage issues is the way it seems my SD card is being handled. For whatever reason my phone shows as having 3 storage locations SD card, Phone memory and Internal phone storage. The issue is that when using music players when picking a source it only lets me choose from either internal storage or external storage but the internal storage is the Internal phone storage and the external storage is the Phone memory. Leaving me without an option to choose the SD card. What's even more strange is that it does pull music from the SD card but now alot of the tags are messed up. All the tags are correct. I've doubled and tripled checked that. Leaves me scratching my head as to what is going on.

Makes sense. Do you know if this is adjustable? Noticed more and more storage issues with the new market.

Any idea how many apps is too many? I've had at least 15 or 16 apps downloading/updating at once on this phone and I never got an error.
On WI-FI I downloaded 10 at a time no problem. On phones data 5 no problems.

I think I read about this here a while ago, can not find it anymore.
After update to firmware 2.2 apps can be stores on sd-card.
BUT icons disappers from desktop when phone is restarted.
This only if its app is on sd-card.
Is there a fix for this, very annoying.

SD Card scanning takes time when you restart your phone, so for all the apps that you have installed in your SD Card, it will take time to load. Also widgets wont load if installed on SD Card. Please check if your icons are not coming at all or they are coming with a delay?
Thanks for your answer.
I upgraded to Froyo XXJPS some 4 months ago, ever since its been like this.
I have done nothing else to the phone.
Indeed it takes awhile to scan sd-card, but they do not load back on desktop even if I repositioned them after last restart.

Check your notification bar if the sd card is being scanned or not and make sure widgets are on the phones memory. Also i would recommend rooting your phone, partitioning the sd card and using link2sd app from the android market. It moves your apps to the partition of your sd card and your phone thinks its your internal memory so it won't do a media scan on it meaning your apps load a lot faster. If you want to partition your sd card don't hesitate to message me for more info
It is not only widgets that is left out, none of the icons for the applications is loaded back. If the app is stored on sd-card that is.
Icons for apps stored on phones internal memory load fine.
I see this tiny sd-card-symbol in the notificatin bar for quite a while when reebooting. So it must be media scanned.

Yes, it's a media scan. Just move them to internal memory and it will be fine.

something like this happened to me a while back, the apps were not in the app drawer and also the icons changed to default white and green couldnt launch from home screen. I tried everything short off formatting memory card. I ended up reinstalling all the apps on the memory card ( wont pick up addition space since its already stored on your sd) and now they have been workinf fine since then, i can reboot or install to sd without a problem.
verdict - maybe sent a corrupted apk to sd.
as far as i know (from the time when i was on stock froyo), when you use the "original" way to move your apps to the sd card (settings/applications/manage applications, select app, press move to SD card) the icons placed on your desktop will be removed on a reboot. i dont think its a real "error" on your side, its just how its programmed in stock froyo.
I guess I was waiting for comment like yours, there is a 'bug' in froyo.
Do I have any other options than to root?
Are there updates to be found on froyo.
How did you root?
Name some of the biggest benefits in a rooted phone.
im not saying its a bug in android or in the android version we have on our phone. i dont know if other phones running android have the same "problem" with this.
if you want root do a quick search on the G3 section for it. its pretty good explained in a thread.
running a script like apps2sd requires you to partition your sd card, the best thing of it is that after its setup it needs no attention anymore, all the apps you install will be moved to the second partition untill it full. so basicly your phone is tricked into thinking that your internal mem is way larger then it should be .

The first option is to move your apps to internal memory and see if they all fit in the internal memory or not. I think rooting is an easy way to sort out your problem is the internal memory is not enough for your apps.
The latest update to froyo is XXJPU and it's blazing fast! Just update to that and root your phone using this program. All the info is on that thread but all you really need to do is go to settings > applications > development > make sure USB debugging is ticked. Then connect your phone to your computer using USB cable, open the program as administrator and click root. Follow the commands (really easy) and then after everything is done just manually reboot your phone.
Just rooting your phone doesn't really do anything dangerous etc. All it does is allows you to edit the /system of your phone as this is restricted with androids. After rooting your phone you will be able to expand your internal memory. This is done by partitioning your sd card and using an app called link2sd or a script called app2sd. The app is easier.
Hope this helps and added some useful links in there so be sure to check them out.
Accordin to KIES I allready have the latest uppdate, which I do not seems to have. Where do I find XXJPU.
Today I got a notification from the market telling me insufficient storage space installing an update to adobe air.
I opened lucky patcher and tried removing fixes and backups. This did not correct the problem as it has in the past.
What else can I do? Open up the phone and install bigger memory chips? Lol

You could move some apps to your sdcard or uninstall unused ones. Your internal storage (1gb) is probably a bit full.

You can check how much more internal memory you actually have by going to settings>apps>manage apps. If you go to the "on sd card" tab, it lists all apps that can be installed to SD. Ones with a checkmark next to them denote that they're already on the SD. To move one, tap on it and press "move to USB storage". If the button says "move to phone" it's installed to SD. Be wary about phone crashes, even in the best case scenario Titanium will attempt to install them to the internal memory, making it full once more. Worst case scenario, you lose everything due to weird symlinks (pretty sure that's what it is) between internal and SD storage. Both have happened to me.

I checked and had 590mb free. Just to be on the safe.side, I moved a few apps to the storage card.

I've had this happen a lot. Someone suggested in the tweaked thread I odin back to stock and start over. It seemed to had been attributed to ext4 to rfs conversion which i've never done. It's my only phone and I'm very busy so I haven't got around to it. Anytime I get to around 100 ~ 120 mbs left it gives me this notification, won't let me install even the smallest of apps, and gmail stops syncing. My phone seems to imply I have 1.2 gb of storage so maybe that's the problem?
All I've ever done is been on tweaked 3.1, then 3.2 ..recently flashed 1214 kernel. Complete wipes both times, no dirty flashes
I hate to revive an older thread but i cant get past the insufficent storage problem. I moved apps to usb storage freeing up over 500mb. When that failed, i tried lucky patcher. Any other suggestions?
it seems the only way to update some apps is to delete and reinstall... Some i just dont update anymore.
