Xoom Wifi ICS Update from Motorola - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone having trouble updating their Motorola Xoom Wifi with the recently released ICS update.zip from Motorola needs to name their USB device "sdcard" in order for the stock recovery to properly mount it. Format it with FAT32, name it "sdcard", and use a OTG cable to properly install the update over the stock HTK75D build.
Cheers.

.
Thread moved. Would advise you to read forum rules and post in correct section.

No, mine updated fine without it being called 'sdcard'.

Mine also worked fine without doing the shenanigans you're talking about.

Uh, no. The name of the USB stick is meaningless.

Key phrase was "Anyone having trouble"
If you had no trouble than congratulations.
I tried the methods posted elsewhere on XDA but to no avail.
Once I renamed the USB stick to "sdcard" my update was successful.
Just trying to help anyone encountering a similar problem.

[Q] how to update rooted Xoom to 3.1 or 3.2

dears,
i have rooted 3G Xoom (MZ601).. 3.0.1
now i want to update it to 3.1 or 3.2
and i want to activate the US market ..
please, any one can guide me to do it ..
Simplest way i know.
1. Relock your zoom and go back to stock:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/xo...stboot-official-system-images.html#post708799
2. Update through the system update on your xoom.
3. Once you get up to 3.2 unlock and reroot your xoom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1170760
+ this way now you can reset it back to stock completely if you ever need too. Step by step guides are very easy to follow. Mostly copy and paste commands into notepad if your lazy like me. The whole process takes maybe 20 minutes.

Hi ,
I think you can go directly from 3.01 to 3.2 using this guide:

If you don't already have ClockworkMod recovery v3.2.0.0 R4c installed, pay attention to post #7.
Good luck!
incase you dont have sdk installed put all files in a folder on your C:/ directory with a name you can find. Youll need these in addition to be able to use adb on your computer File name: SDK ADB.zip File size: 359.93 KB put them all in a folder called rootxoom or something.

His Xoom is 3G there is no OTA update to 3.2 for 3G.
I really would not relock and go back to stock. He's rooted and that's more than half the battle.
is3od, the method I posted is for non-US Xooms as long as they are rooted.
i'll try it

You have ignored my posts which are for non-US 3G Xoom. Pleease check them again. I was not the one to tell you to go back to stock, unroot and relock. Please don't do that...no need.
Just try to follow the guide I posted in #3. Good luck.

adb devices returns no devices
I have followed the tutorial after reading through it several time to unlock and root stock xoom 3.2. when i get to the adb devices command it returns me to the prompt with no devices returned or shown. i have android sdk windows in root of C:. i have rootboot.img, superuser.apk & su binary in a xoom folder in my downloads folder. i open the cmd in the download folder wherein resides rootboot.img, superuser.apk & su binary and type adb devices and nothing. i can see the xoom in explorer so i assume the usb drivers are there. i do have a yellow flag in other devices in device manager-other devices that says MZ604. but i can find no drivers anywhere for it though i have scoured the web for 2 days. i am at a loss as i have tried to perform this root for 2 days using all of my adb noob skills, but have had no luck as of yet. any suggestions? win7, stock xoom 3.2 wifi, pretty computer savvy except for adb
Thanks for any help as i only have 4 days of return left in case of brickage, which i am not so sure i would do inasmuch as it would be my fault...

Make sure USB Debugging is checked under Settings/Applications/Development. If it is checked, then there is something wrong with your drivers.

I'd like to do the same as OP, update a rooted stock 3.0.1 euro 3G to 3.2 - I've already come across the thread you link to, but there's something I don't get.
pienut (user whose post you linked to) is saying that he went from 3.0.1 to 3.2, but in step 3 he writes:
Step 3 - Install 3.2 EURO rom:
Just copied the Euro 3.2 update from this post to my SD Card and flashed it from recovery.
Just to be sure, I did a full wipe after flashing.

Am I missing something, or is the SD card not disabled in 3.0.1? I know it is for me, afaik it only started working with 3.1 and up. I can't wrap my mind around going from 3.0.1 -> 3.2 using the SD card method, and yet it's mentioned in quite a few more threads and posts.
Ideally, I'd like to update to the Xoom ROM 2.1 Hammerhead (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1203635), but in those instructions, too, step 2 says
Download the 2.1 rom zip file and place it on your external sdcard

How, if I can't access it in the first place? Should I install 3.1 first before I install Hammerhead? If so, do you know about any step-by-step I can follow?
Sorry to jump in on this thread like this... it was the closest I could find related to my problem after hours of searching and reading. Thanks.
Alright, I figured it out on my own... I took a leap of faith and installed the ClockworkMod Recovery 3.2.0.0 (R4c), booted to recovery, and in there it's possible to mount the SD card under mounts and storage > mount usb storage. It will then appear in Windows as an external drive (as usual).
Yay, learned something new today. Now on to the next battle

[Q] USB Not recognized by computer after flashing ICS

HI Guys
so here is the thing , everything was working fine, until i flashed ICS the stock rom with CWM, right after flashing my pc was unable to recognize my Transformer as a USB device.
Every time i connect it my transformer freezes for a few seconds and then nothing happens, and on my computer screen it doesn't even recognize a new USB drive.
I tried to connect it to two different computers and the same thing happens which means the problem is with my transformer
Afterwards i Flashed Revolver rom but i still have the same issue
Any one had the same problem? any possible fix for this problem
Edit: Charging Works fine
Thanks
Update: Strangely when i tried to connect the USB when i am on the recovery menu the computer was able to recognize my transformer, ADB was installed but not the MTP so the problem is not a cable or computer problem something much be wrong
I used ViprerMod to root my transformer and i am using Rogue CWM
Thanks
Just flash this update on top of your ROM

Slight hi-jack but I have a question about this.
I updated OTA from scratch (meaning a full and complete wipe). I plugged my tablet into my PC and it downloaded all the drivers. Great!.
I have my Titanium backup folder on the Internal (for some unknown reason why I did that) and I want to put it on my External. I plug the tablet into my PC and the media device icon pulls up. I click on it and both drives pull up and I can open them. Now I want to take my Titanium folder from the internal and put it on the external with just drag and drop. So I drag and drop, only when I click on the folder in the external (tried it to a temp folder on my PC desktop too) it shows as empty. I have USB debugging on and MTP is checked. I have also been able to transfer pix, .zips and other misc files over while inside the tablet with Root Explorer, it is just that the Titanium folder will not cross over for some reason.
Ideas? I did the OTA so not sure that flashable bootloader.zip will work. I am just missing something and I can't figure out what it is. I know they did away with Mass Storage mode with HC and not ICS. How can I get it over there?

Back then I use to use Root Explorer and copy the whole folder over to external sd card. Now TB have the option to backup directly to external sd card.
Ya, but my dumba$$ pulled a copy of my TB from my phone with all my backups (PowerAmp, Jango Music, At-Bat,...) and installed it on the external when I first got the tablet and then copied it over to the internal (because I didn't know there was such a threat of losing internal on this tablet) once I got a new external I wanted to move it back.
I know that in TB you can set the backup destination to wherever you want it to be, but this is an existing backup folder that I am wanting to move. Wonder if I can put it in my dropbox (900mb- but can be trimmed down for some apps that I know don't work and general cleaning house) and pick it back up to my PC and then transfer it over to external?
Edit:: I used Root Explorer to try and copy it over and let it run all night and when I woke up it was still cycling the icon in the center of the screen, 6hrs later.

Thank you very much for your advise , But Doesn't that mean that i will go back to stock rom and i won't be able to use the benifits of the revolver rom?
One other thing i should mention is that i already tried flashing this stock rom once before i flashed revolver rom and i had the exact same problem
i mean first flashed ICS CWM flashable >> USB not recognized
Then i tried with the ICS revolver rom >> Same thing USB not recognized by the computer
All what happens is that my Transformer freezes for a few seconds and nothing shows up on my computer
It sucks not being able to connect your device to the computer i mean it is kind of a deal breaker
Any ideas?

Screwed up-Unrecoverable?

I just got my TF300 after selling my 101. Very happy but decide to flash a new rom and hydro looks awesome. Got TWRP installed and found to my dismay I had forgotted the step of moving the zip to internal sd after wiping. And I forgot to make a backup.
For the life of me I cannot get my desktop to recognize the tablet or load drivers, or see it with "adb devices". I am humbly asking for help and realize by getting to excited I probably lost my new tablet. Is there any way to recover from here?
I will be back on first thing the morning. Thank you in advance.

Can you only flash the roms from the internal memory?
Can you not just copy a rom to the micro sd card and flash it? What i mean is just take a micro sd card out of your transformer put it in your phone and download a rom copy it to the micro sd and then put it back in to the transformer and flash via twrp
Everything I have found says there is no support for flashing from card, has to be done from the internal card.

Wow really?? See i haven't rooted/flashed yet because of all these strange little issues that seem to be popping up on this tablet. Have you tried flashing via micro sd yet? I read on another thread that someone did a minute ago.
This thread references flashing from an sd card :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1700441
Check like five or six posts down for the numbered instructions
It says right underneath that TWRP does not support flashing from the sd card. Trying to figure out how to either flash cw over TWRP or get a push through adb. Still not recognizing the pad on my desktop. I have a ubuntu live cd downloading now, looking for instructions on how to do a push with that right now.

Tronsmart T428 - Stock ROM size

Hello all,
I received my Tronsmart T428 a few days ago. However, I see nothing when I plug it in to my TV. When I connect it to my laptop, I see only 13 folders (all empty) and 5.66 GB free out of 5.76 GB..
What does everyone else see as part of stock ROM? Obviously, my device is not rooted ... so I don't know if it's a permissions issue or the device itself has missing filesystem required to run it.
Thanks in advance!

The rom is taking up the 2.25Gb that you don't have access to, mine had the same when I got it, if I remember correctly. How are you powering it? Are you using the adapter it came with? How about inputs? If you have done everything properly, and it still can't boot, I'd get on the geekbuying website, look for the stick, and theres a link to their forums, with all the necessary files to reflash. Follow the directions if you do it, though. Good Luck!

[Q] Droid MAXX TWRP Recovery and using USB OTG

I'm currently using TWRP 2.6.x on my XT1080MDEV and have a question specific to the device.
First, my use case: I like backup images... They are wonderful... BUT, they occupy space. To help alleviate this I've started offloading them to a USB OTG device via manually copying them in a file manager after mounting the device in StickMount. I would like to be able to restore from this device directly in recovery, just in case the world burns down.
My issue: attempting to mount in TWRP never finds anything and thus no restore from the USB OTG device works for me. As I understand it, TWRP recovery does support USB OTG.
How do I accomplish mounting a USB OTG device in TWRP on the Droid MAXX?
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can provide.... Its greatly appreciated!!

The TWRP I originally installed was from Hashcode here http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/development/recovery-unlocked-twrp-2-6-3-1-android-t2534850 and is version 2.6.3.1 which I believe supports USB OTG (But, obviously, its not working for me )
I looked around for dhacker29's version and all I can find is his thread in which someone asked about compatibility with Droid MAXX here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=49475029&postcount=110 in which a reply has not yet been submitted. The thread includes a broken link to a TWRP img however I think they are housed here http://androidhosting.org/Devs/Dhacker29/MotoX/ even so I cannot validate compatibility and would not know which one to pick... I'm not bold enough to potentially brick either.
Any other ideas or more information anyone can provide?
Is anyone else trying to do images from an off device storage source? I would think this might be a common thing to do, given internal storage and get botched too.
Thanks to anyone who can help in advance!

I don't know if this will help but this is what I do. After unlocking I set up a bone stock ROM and then to nandroid back up. While its quite large, I keep this backup on my SD in its original location. As I move forward with customization, tweaks, ROMs, ect I'll do a nand of that and move the file from the phone to PC. If anything should happen like bootloop or otherwise borking something I have the stock nand immediately available to restore and bail me out. If I want I can then hook up to PC and load the backup I want and restore through TWRP.

OK... I installed the 2.7 image to no avail.
Do I need to manually mount the drive in a terminal or something ?
I ass/u/me/d it would mount on boot of recovery as external memory or something however perhaps that's not the case and I'm simply missing steps?

I'm not sure about TWRP. I'm using CWM 6.4.0.7 and it mounts automatically

Yes, I've now tested CWM 6.4.0.7 and it does automatically mount the drive. I'll use this as a workaround for now and thank you.
Still looking to get TWRP to mount external storage - anyone?
