Looking to buy an Android tablet - General Questions and Answers

Hi there!
I'm currently in the hunt for an Android Honeycomb 3.1/3.2 tablet. and i'm choosing between Samsung's new Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus (which has the Mali 400MP GPU) and the Sony Tablet S (with its own Geforce by Nvidia Tegra 2.) both has a dual core processor although Samsung has the new Exynos 1.2GHz processor.
Based on the initial tech specs i've seen online the Samsung has a supposedly mind-altering 20 hours battery life while Sony has only 6 hours max. advertised.
But, does a processor speed or the graphics card always determines a device's overall performance, responsiveness & battery life? ( i'll be mainly surfing the net, watch Youtube videos, facebook, twitter, viewing .pdf or .doc files, odd photos & uploading them, listening to music, playing games, using DLNA to watch movies to my TV)
I'm trying to aim for anything below 10" screen size, with an SD/microSD card slot, dual speakers and GBP400 max budget.
Thank you.

id go with prime, thinnest, lighest, and 4 core. toshiba is coming out with some nice ones but not sure about specs. between the 2 you've said it depends on you preferances/requirements. one is 7 inch and one is 10 inch. one has a big ass bunp and a ir blaster, the other doesn't, it seems like your not sure what your looking for

I'm looking for something at least 7" and not more than 10". i thought a 10" one is big (because of the things i'll be mostly be doing with it) so anything in-between is almost perfect.
I've got some choices in mind. two of them not officially released yet in the UK namely the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus and the Tab 7.7. on the other hand the iPad 2 vs the Sony Tablet S.
My problem with the iPad 2 are several. namely the inability to send any files via bluetooth, lack of SD/microSD card support, a single mono speaker, a lacklustre front-facing & rear-facing camera amongst others.
My problem with Sony Tablet S are tiny/not-so-loud speakers, lack of Playstation games (even after roughly 4 months of being released and has a PS-certification why not enough games are coming out???) and that's it.
I want to weigh and balance all of them but...i don't know which to choose?
All of them are within my bidget but shall i wait for the iPad 3? shall i invest on the Exynos-powered Galaxy Tabs or jump in to the all-entertainment, all-dancing Sony tablet?
I want to buy something before the last week of march so i can bring it with me during my holiday.
please help....

Herotab C8 Information & Development

So I got one of the variations of this rather generic Chinese tablet and am very interested to get development on it going. Some folks over at Slatedroid (currently down for upgrades) started messing around with this tablet.
So far we have root via the normal su/superuser.apk method. There seems to be no NAND lock of any kind or no bootloader mischief going on, Either. The CPU is the same used in the Galaxy S and Tab from what I understand.
Some brave soul (username Asure on Slatedroid) also found an older kernel source for it, as well as source for some of the drivers. We've seen a couple of firmware updates going so far in the last two months or so.
These are the general tech specs for this device, and its similarly named and equipped friends (Dropad A8, Haipad M7, etc):
Dimensions: 196.5*125*14.5mm
Weight: 0.510g
LCD: Capacitive Multi-touch 2-point 7" @ 800x480
CPU: Samsung S5PV210 (ARM v7 Cortex A8) @ 1.0GHz
RAM: 512MB DDR2 RAM
Wifi: 802.11 b/g/n support
NAND: 2/4GB NAND Flash (On most models, some have no NAND or as little as 256MB)
Camera: Front Camera, 1.3MP
Battery: Dual 2250mAh batteries (also seems to change per device 'brand')
Others: USB2.0 support both normal and host mode, HDMI 1.3 output
Runs a rather generic Froyo on it. Ask me for any more info, I hope we can get more support for this going. I'd probably be willing to donate a bit to get interested (and experienced) developers going.
Is there a different thread going on about this device? Search didn't show anything.
Haven't found anything similar in XDA about it or the variants.
I'm thinking of getting it, too. Was hoping I can find more support for this device in here. Gingerbread, plausible?
This device is pretty good, but no xda support yet.
This device is basically a Galaxy Tab Wifi 4GB, as the hardware is the same.
I did a CM7 port for it. See SD for more details, XDA topic is dead
Can't believe there are no more people on XDA who have a Dropad / Haipad / Herotab. Good hardware en cheap! I hope there is a dev who can make a custom recovery for this tablet, that would make it next to perfect!
better buy a branded tablet
That herotab c8 is my second tablet that I bought it from aliexpress, yeah i know it is a lousy place but the price was much cheaper than merimobiles.
I sold back the first cheap tablet which is bloody slow and specs are very low which is under $100.
The second tablet that i bought was C8/herotab/whatever they call it. (yeah I made a mistake twice.)
Before I bought this, I read a bunch of reviews by c8 owners on youtube, including some videos posted on merimobiles. And I convinced myself that 1GHz cpu powered tablet would be great. yeah I was partially right.
Running applications + watching videos are simply awesome. avi, mkv, 1080 play flawlessly, I watch only 720p because of the file size, so watching movie on it was awesome.
cons
Unresponsive compare to Galaxy tab(i think you are going to talk about the price tag)
Compare to the crowd working on branded phone/tablet, Very few people are working on the customised rom.
And bloody heavy, yeah as a tablet half a Kg is pretty heavy.
What else.
I even planned to sell it back but now my daughter plays angry bird, watches nursery rhymes videos on it. So I leave it with her.
The worst thing is no developers at xda are interested to work on it
yes. very good machine. I just know it is generic one with many other name like Haipad M7, Dropad a8, Apad 7009. all of them have an issue in common:
either skype or fring does work on them. I am keen to know if someone has video call working on it. thanks for your input
i managed to initiate a qik videocall via wifi but it took me many calls to get a connection that didnt broke after a vew seconds.
i have installed asure's cm7 beta 0.4 + launcher pro plus with honeycomb theme and layout. works great in everyday use. after deleting the unnecessary phone related apk's the battery lasts for at least a whole at heavy use and up to 2.5 days with much standby time. im loving it. it's not perfect but it's more than you'd expect from such a lowprice device.
Hey if you want ROMS and firmware updates for this device, I think this is THE page you need

Exynos vs Tegra 2...which is best?

Hi there!
I'm currently in the hunt for an Android Honeycomb 3.1/3.2 tablet. and i'm choosing between Samsung's new Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus which has the Mali 400MP GPU and the Sony Tablet S' own Geforce by Nvidia Tegra 2. (both has a dual core processor although Samsung has a slight edge i think with the new Exynos 1.2GHz)
Based on the initial tech specs i've seen online the Samsung has a supposedly mind-altering 20 hours battery life while Sony has only 6 hours max. advertised.
I'm not a technical person but may i ask in your opinion is the better device's GPU in terms of better gaming, better graphics rendering, better battery life and better heat dissipation?
Thank you.
In the cpu department the exynos wins. In the GPU i'm not sure since it's a bit harder, but all i do know is that tegra 2 is unable to play high profile HD/1080p.
Am i correct in saying that Samsung made the Exynos processors and ARM the Mali-400MP? or are they the same now?
Did samsung made the iPhone 4/S' processor/GPU?
Would you consider the Mali-400MP better than Nvidia's Geforce Tegra 2 GPU? (in terms of the above i mentioned)
(i.e. Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 Plus vs Sony Tablet S)
They didn't/don't make the Mali, but they do put it together with the cortex a9's.
As I said, I'm not sure on the graphics part.
$1 gets you a reply
Does a processor speed or the graphics card determines a device's overall performance & responsiveness?
I'll be mainly surfing the net, watch Youtube videos, facebook, twitter, viewing .pdf or .doc files, odd photos & uploading them, listening to music, playing games, using DLNA to watch movies to my TV.
I wonder if a few bucks of investment on a faster processor is worth it. (e.g. Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus vs Galaxy Tab 7.7)
That and software efficiency. I am not sure about samsung tablets, but all I know is that the sgs 2 is the smoothest and possibly fastest android phone available. But personally samsung tablets are overpriced, you'd be better off with the new or old asus transformer.
$1 gets you a reply
I like more the tablet with Tegra 2
Tegra 2 is okay, but IMHO it's the software/drivers/OS that was released (Honeycomb) with Tegra that gave Tegra a bad wrap. Those two just don't work well together.
I played around with a 7.0 Plus awhile back and man those Exynos dual cores fly!
IMO Exynos is better at this current time, but doesn't have the gamer following like Tegra, and may never with Tegra 3 out now.
I prefer something that has a smaller than 10" screen like the Galaxy tab 7.0 Plus or the Galaxy Tab 7.7 because of the size and as i heard of the dual-core processors being that good.
I still don't know if there is any truth to the "rumour" that the Exynos-powered tablets (like the 7.0 Plus and 7.7) have 20 hours of standby battery life. is this true?
And can you gauge a tablet's battery life on the processor speed, RAM or the OS?
exynos is better as i,ve heard
Saw this video on Youtube comparing a Samsung Galaxy S2 (with the Tegra 2 chipset) and the LG Optimus 2X with an Exynos chipset.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JR4jzO3sN5U
and it looked like the LG with the Exynos one is smoother in running/rendering 3D.
am i correct?
+1 for exynos. Tegra 2 is awesome as well.

The problem with those new Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus and 7.7. are just that...they are new. sure there are reviews but there isn't much on the high-street to actually try it.
The one i fancy right now is the Sony Tablet S. seen the actual thing and it is really smooth and almost flawless. and it has Tegra 2. so surely even on a 1Ghz dual-core it must be good.

Galaxy Tab Plus vs Nexus 7

I know there are many things about the Tab Plus that make it a superior piece of hardware, but the Nexus 7 is one of the few 7" devices that even comes close to it in specs and performance.
The one great thing is that it will get the latest OS updates and that will make it a more fun device to use. It hasn't even shipped yet, but has its own forum and someone has already figured out how to root the device . . . The most frustrating thing about Samsung is its silence and sluggishness regarding updating our beloved device. Not to mention the wifi driver issue.
I don't plan on getting rid of my Tab Plus but I have a Nexus 7 on pre order and can't wait to try some Jelly Bean.
change the title to:
microsd x JB
Enviado de meu MB525 usando o Tapatalk 2
Well it has the superior processor and better software support, downside would be the missing microSD slot, limited internal storage and lack of 3g. So on the one hand you are dependent on the cloud but you dont get mobile data capabilities. Sure Tegra 3 is nice but i still think the tab+ is at the very least more mobile.
Oh yeah and the n7 is supposed to have a bit of a better screen.
Since it has only wifi and limited storage it's designed to be used at home mostly which conflicts with the concept of such a small screen size.
OK, so I was really curious about this too. I made a little spreadsheet to compare the GT+wifi to the 16gb N7. It's attached. There's several small differences (dimensions, materials, asthetics, etc.) that were either a matter of taste of too insignificant to call "different." BTW- if I've missed something let me know and I'll update.
Nexus 7 (16gb)-----Galaxy Tab Plus (6210 wifi only):
Processor: Tegra 3 Quad Core 1300MHz-----1.2 GHz dual-core Exynos 4210
OS: Android 4.1 Jelly Bean*- Vanilla-----Android 3.2 Honeycomb - Touchwiz
OS Future: Early upgrades for 18 months-----ICS July/August; nothing more
Display: 1280 x 800 IPS-----1024 x 600 PLS
Magnetometer: Yes-----No
USB Digital Audio: Yes-----No
NFC: Yes-----No
USB: MicroUSB w/host-----Samsung Proprietary w/host
Back Camera (MP): No-----3.1
Front Camera (MP): 1.2-----2
Expandable Memory: No-----Yes
Wifi: B/G/N-----A/B/G/N
Wifi 5Ghz: No-----Yes
So, there you have it. If you need mobile data, don't compare, just get a GT+. Also note the difference in user base for the two tablets which means a huge difference in the amount of development.

Thanks for pulling all this together!
Honestly if the nexus 7 had a microsd card slot id probably rid my gt+ but im not sure if im willing to give up storage for a faster cpu. ... I think it kind of is a downgrade, and cloud come on why would you want your files on another device and not your own? I think its a cool device and may work for you but all n all i think the gt+ is for the win in my book

I just sold my Gtab+ on ebay today and pre-ordered two Nexus 7.
I'm just tired of Samsung taking forever to roll out major updates, namely ICS. I've had working ICS leaks on my E4GT for several months now, which I am enjoying and all, however my P6210 has seen no such love. Its not mobile/3g so the carrier argument is null. What bothers me further is that Samsung put out the tab 2, which is extremely similar yet its got ICS.
I decided to sell it now, while i still can and forego the microSD card slot. apart from that, i am gaining a far superior tab that has much greater function (to me) than the tab plus.
Despite the Lack of external storage I do not see how a Gtab plus is in any way better than the Nexus 7. Even if it has 3G, pages are slow to load and browsers FC more often than i'd like to admit. I find myself (when using my phone) waiting and hopping onto wifi more often than waiting for 3G.
Based on Specs alone, my wants and needs would be satisfied by the Nexus 7. As great as external storage would be for movies during flights and trips, i can still make plenty of use of 16GB of on board storage for my half way around the world flights.
Small correction, the plus has a magnetometer

Just some quick thoughts on my future with my GT7+...not commenting on anyone else's decision to switch or not....
Not sure if I'll sell my GT7+ or repurpose it, but I too have ordered an N7. Lack of ICS (my 10 android tab has it so I do know what I'm missing- unfortunately I don't have time these days to root/hack as much as I'd like to get an unofficial ICS on the GT7) is a big issue for me so getting to leapfrog it for JellyB is a dream. Day to day performance compared to iOS has always been so disappointing and it looks like JB will have that smooth, buttery UX that android has been severely lacking. I can't wait! I know many will disagree with that statement, but fanboi-ism aside, you gotta admit, why does android need two or even four cores running at 1.2-1.7Ghz to run as smoothly as iOS (which only uses a dual 1Ghz cpu or slower)? I'm not a dev or coder so don't know the nuts and bolts of the OS, but as a consumer the slow downs, freezes, stutters, etc is a deal killer.
These days an iPad3 is my main tab (/ducks...lol), but I still think the GT7 size is a portable sweet spot. There are times the iPad just feel to big to bring. Plus, the horsepower of Tegra 3 with that monster GPU (12 cores!) will make the N7 a serious competitor to the iPad for games and multimedia content creation (photo and video in my case)- if we get the proper apps. Another thing the the N7 got me with is a better supported screen rez- I've had app compatibility issues possibly because 1024x768 wasn't properly supported for a honeycomb tablet.
16GB with no expansion might be tough, but support for USB drives will come soon if not available at launch. No HDMI out is also a bummer, though again, I've read MHL support could be added with a firmware update.
Lack of 3G is a non-issue. 3G sucks. Sorry, but come on, in this age of LTE, good WiFi coverage about anywhere and LTE MiFi's, I would never pay extra to have 3G in a device these days. LTE data plans are about the same cost as 3G now and coverage is only getting better (obviously, I'm only talking about the US and have no idea what the situation for LTE is in other parts of the world)
Anyway, I know I'll always have uses for both OS's- well, my work requires I know and use both, but it's gonna be great to have a device that won't sometimes make me feel like a beta tester when I use Android.
Damn, ipad was never into the discussion.

Yuck, sold mt ipad 2 to get this one. As long as they put ****ty software on it which is only designed to restrict your freedom, im not ever gonna get anything with a bitten apple on it lol.

Oh yeah an that with 3g is your opinion, but it highly depends on where you live. When youre on the countryside 3g is your only option, since there is bad lte coverage and wifi only at home so...

Keeping my TabPlus, waiting for N7+.
Hey! nobody saw that the n7 has no interface for tablet? This is very important for the GT +

If you can't find google or the search button, how did you make it to XDA?
GTab+: MicroSD, HDMI (with dongle), rear camera + LED, haptic feedback.
N7: Better resolution, OS, CPU, easier to hold (grippy case), NFC
I'll be keeping my GTab+ P6210 for now. Besides being a bit slower and lower res, it suits my purposes fine and has all the extras. Hopefully the OS will catch up eventually (at least 4.04 with good custom ROM, don't care for TW that much). Might get an N7 later but not in a huge rush right now.
Keeping my GT+
but want to order the 32 Gig Nexus 7 (they are currently sold out)to have a cream of the crop OS to play with . The only reason I need the Xtra space is for movies so I'll just bring my GPlus when on long trips and the Nexus 7 for short ones. :good:
Well i wont leave my GT+ for sure.. I use it for cellular purpose and also browsing internet.. its my main gadget now ^^, but eyah, another 7" tab for 200 $ with 1.3 quad tegra.. jelly bean.. quite a good offer for self amusement.. will consider getting that N7 as well.. but GT+ will always be my main, for now..
Another direct comparison.
http://versusio.com/en/google-nexus-7-8gb-vs-samsung-galaxy-tab-7-0-plus-p6210-32gb
This comparision is bull****.
No DLNA on P6210?
Nexus 7 doesn't have USB mass storage out of the box.
Free navigation? You can install Google Maps on P6210 for free too.
Also this bull**** comparision doesn't mention things like rear facing camera, LED flash on P6210.

[Q] need some help choosing

Hi guys,
Im looking to buy my first ever tablet but im having trouble choosing. I'm a university engineer student and need a tablet that can take notes(alot of typing), browse the web(flash must have), remote access desktop back home (must have) and possible play few games( nothing fancy). I had a laptop(windows 7) but it was big, heavy and ended up breaking when I was rushing from class to class. That's why I'm looking for a smaller tablet. I want to stay away from laptops and try something new (android). I do have a windows desktop at home, so i dont really need another windows laptop. My budget is about 400-700 Max.
After doing some Googling I found:
Asus transformer infinity tf700t (with dock)
Samsung galaxy note 10.1 (probably will buy a dock for it)
Windows surface (has cover/dock)
Ipad 2 (don't really like apple products because there is no customization to it, but still considering)
So far I'm looking at the Asus tf700t because of the dock but since I have never owned any android tablets I'm a little unsure if its the right choice for me.*
Any tips, suggestions or comments will be much appreciated.
Thank you
You can't really go wrong with an android device. On stock OS android is more stable than any other mobile OS. And that's without losing all the customization. Where as on the iPad or any other OS or tablet/phone you have to do some sort of hackery or something extra. But out of the box an android tablet runs circles around anything else available. I can't say however the tablet apps are as polished in iOS in android. That is just simple mathematics... there are so many more phones than tablets so fewer developers work on them. But don't let that discourage you. You will still find what you looking for and more with the tablet your most interested in.

I have looked around asus transformer tf700 section and i found some good tips and everyone says its definitely worth the price, though some problems with battery life.
thanks for your comment btw.
I say go for the Galaxy Note 10.1. It's a bit newer and you also get a newer version of ICS. You may take a hit in the screen resolution, which is 1280 X 800. You do get a quad core CPU, with the Mali-400mp GPU, and 2 GBs of memory. Plus you get a pen with it ^__^. When looking at the Prime you may get a higher resolution screen of 1920 X 1200, you get a dual core CPU, the Adreno 225, and 1 GB of memory. In terms of GPU power both offer about the same performance wise. With all the other bells and whistles both have very comparable stats.

If you can wait for the Windows Surface tablet to come out to see what it offers, and I highly suggest not to get an iPad because it doesn't support flash lol, and has little to no customization. Plus it's the older iPad 2 which only has a comparable GPU the PowerVR SGX543 MP2. However, the screen res is even lower than the Note 10.1 (1024 X 768) , and it has only 512 mb of ram (which in some occasions isn't enough anymore), has no dock, and has no expandable storage either.

Thanks for the great links and tip. I'm going to do a tryout of some tablets to see how easy and good they are at note taking. If the infinity it Samsung galaxy note 10.1 don't fit my list. I will wait for the windows surface pro to come out and buy it, that is if neither the infinity or samung note 10.1 satisfy my needs.

No Type of Develpment For the Tab 3 7" T211

it sad to say but its the truth, when it comes to the Tab 3 7" T211 theres NO Development out, I have held off for awhile but just couldn't take the lags on the gaming aspect of it. so I sold it and purchased the Galaxy tab 3 8" T311 Version, and I'm not looking back, this device (T311) is awesome, I dont understand why the Tab 3 7" T211 doesn't come with 4.2.2 out the box like the T311, the T311 is much smoother and a lot less laggy so the gaming is great. Plus theres ALOT of development which is very important to me. I just figured to put my 2 cents out there. The best of luck to all the ppl still stuck with the T211, I got out of that situation QUICKLY... :cyclops:

The best of luck to all the ppl still stuck with the T211, I got out of that situation QUICKLY... :cyclops:

I might do the same.
Yes you SHOULD
The reason i say this is simple. Most of these Devs do there Research Before they go out and buy there devices (something I should have Done), I know they seen the specs and viewed the videos out on the 7" version, IT SUCKSSSS...!!! I wish i would have seen the reviews before purchasing it my self, however we live and we learn, there isn't any development because the majority of devs stood clear of this particular device, because it SUCKSSSS. I was lucky to not have lost out on my t211, i TWEAKED it a bit and installed unlimited tethering and hooked it up to get Paid Apps and Movies for free, this is why i got a bit more than what i paid for it , thats when i went out and bought the T311, I highly recommend it...!!! The best of luck to you Buddy...

The entire Tab 3 line just isn't worth it. I am actually flabbergasted at those who defend their purchases, awe stricken-ed even. Unfortunately, I also made the mistake of grabbing one do to a horrible recommendation from a sales rep at Best Buy, I bought the 10.1 version. It turned out to be the biggest hunk of junk I have ever had the misfortune of owning, antiquated resolution, laggy as all hell, only 300MB of free memory for apps upon a clean reboot(that is just disgusting and frankly uber cheap of Samsung to have not added an additional 1GB of ram for a 300 dollar tablet ) , scratches if you breath on it, yeah I returned it and bought a Nexus 10, freaking awesome tablet, 10x faster across the board and it cheaper.
I know the 7 inch model costs only 150 bucks but for 50 to 80 dollars more you can get a real tablet that is sooooo much faster like; Kindle 7 HDX (there is a fantastic AOSP ROM available), it has a Qualcomm 800 CPU, 2GB RAM, HDMI out and 1920 x 1200 resolution, Nexus 7 also with a Qualcommo CPU, 2GB of RAM awesome Android experience since it doesn't contain any of that Touchwiz bloatware and 1080P resolution, EVGA Note 7, Tegra 4 CPU, active digitizer, HDMI out and also has pure android (this tablet is perfect for those who love to game, just connect a Bluetooth game-pad to it and then to your TV via the HDMI, friggen insanely fast console machine), HP Slate 7 Extreme, also a Tegra 4 CPU, fantastic build quality and the best part, it only costs 180 dollars.
So if you buy the Samsung Tab 3 7 instead of any of the better tablets I listed above there is something really wrong with you. Even if money is an issue you can't tell me you can't find at least an additional 30 dollars for the HP.
I'm sorry for the troll tone of my post but I am just so tired of Samsung trying to shove these crappy sub-par tablets down our throats, especially at the prices their asking, what's even more insulting is that the Tab series hasn't seen much improvement since their introduction, inexcusable.
So Gaming on this tab is just a HELL !
Right ?
OMG !
I was going to sell one of my beast (the Note 8.0) for money reasons (I need some quick cashes right now ) and buy the SM-T210
What do you suggest for me ?
On this thread a guy said Gaming on Tab 3 7.0 was NOT so harmful. He was able to play Asphalt 8 on HIGH Graphics, can you confirm please (OP) ?

Your Tab 3 8" can NOT run better than Tab 3 10.1 since your Tab 3 8.0 have a Exynos Dual CPU w/ Mali-400MP4 (4 Cores GPU) 1,5GB RAM
While Tab 3 10.1 have an Intel x86 CPU which runs 30% faster than the ARM based Exynos Dual !
Intel Z2560 is an i586 or x86 while Exynos Dual is an ARM based CPU.
Mali-400PM4 should perform better than PowerVR SGX544MP2 (w/ 2 Cores and found on Tab 3 10.1). Btw, the performance of the Mali-400 GPU w/ 4Cores is NOT as much as better than the PowerVR SGX544 w/ only 2 Cores.
The Tab 3 10.1 Scores approximately 30,000 Antutu score ! (even better than the S4 which scores approximatelty 28,000 to 29,000)
While the Tab 3 8.0 scores approximately 10,000 points in Antutu test.
By the way, Antutu and Quadrant doesn't prove the Real performance about the device PERFORMANCE
If the Tab 3 10.1 had at least 1,5GB RAM it would the FASTEST device released yet !
The crucial thing is the 32 Bits arch CPU of Tab 3 10.1 vs an ARM arch CPU on the Tab 3 8.0
With this CPU, the Tab 3 10.1 perform even better than Note 8.0 and Note 10.1
You can hate it, You can say everything you want, Tab 3 10.1 perform slightly better than most of devices (only Note 3 and Tegra 4/Tegra K1 devices can pass).

Skip the 7" Tab 3, you will only punish yourself. Buy the HP 7 Extreme, it's a Tegra 4, pretty much the fastest CPU & GPU combo you can get right now for gaming and it only costs 30 dollars more than the Tab 3, plus your not stuck with that horrid resolution. The build quality is also much, much better. The Tab 3 7" is just a cheap piece of crap. don't even consider it, in fact, run, run away as fast as you can.
No development for this device !

Have you seen any forum for this device here on XDA ?
Not sure if it does exist because I found NONE
So that's firstly very important !
A device w/o Custom ROM can NOT spend 2 days w/ me since I randomnly flash ROMS
Rooting this device is itself a PAIN in the ASS !
So this is NOT the perfect one for me.
Maybe the Tab 3 8.0 but I am NOT going to buy an unknown device (at least unknown for XDA Community).
Thx anyway for your suggest !

On paper and in benchmark testing yes, absolutely, the 10.1 smokes my older 8, but in the real world, not so much, the 10.1 is just too laggy. With CM10 installed on my Tab 2 8" it's a very smooth experience, I have a lot more memory available when surfing and for apps. The Tab 3 10.1 literally has only 180MB of memory available once I have Gmail and Chrome up, Chrome constantly has to refresh the tabs that are opened. It's not a good tablet or the Touchwiz build that's installed is just not optimized, whatever the case may be my older 8" is a much more enjoyable experience. Especially with apps like Pinterest, Flipboard, Chrome, even Photoshop Touch runs better, actually PS Touch is unusable on the 10.1. Look, I 'm not a prick, I actually like Samsung tablets when their good. My Nexus 10 is just an incredible tablet, it's so much better than the Tab 3 10.1 that I have to wonder what the hell Samsung was even thinking, I mean it's like night and day. Fantastic resolution (much, much better than the Tab 3 10.1), it feels faster, actually a lot faster across the board, better build quality, gaming is just wonderful on it (for instance I get 9 FPS when playing MC4 on the Tab 3, the Nexus, 30+ and it's 2 times the resolution so what's going on), HDMI out, no bloatware and it was 30 dollars cheaper. So please tell me what the hell was Samsung trying to pull, I'm sorry but the Tab 3 10.1 is a piece of garbage and until Samsung fixes the firmware and I have to stand by that statement.

It's a brand new device, barely a couple of weeks old so it will be a month before we will see any XDA forums on it. HP keeps it's ROMS pretty close to stock, plus with that monster CPU & GPU there really isn't much in the way of customization that will make it any faster. If customization is your thing than you can't get any better than the Nexus 7. Have you looked at the Kindle HDX, Qualcomm 800, 2GB RAM, HDMI out, that thing trounces all of the Tab 3 models, it's a monster plus it has a really nice AOSP ROM available. I just bought one as a reader but it was so fast that I now also use it as a gaming console. Yes gaming console, since it has a built in HDMI out with a true 1080p out desktop I paired a PlayStation 3 game-pad and I now have the perfect mobile gaming system. All for 200 bucks, Tab 3, yeah right, you would have to be out of your mind to buy that instead of a Kindle HDX, there is zero comparison. I also get between 12 - 14 hours of battery with it when just reading or surfing, unheard of for a 7" tablet. Why is Samsung Tab 3 even in your list of possibilities, especially when there are so many more better tablets out there, there just not good tablets. Every reviewer has said the same thing about every model, lag, antiquated, expensive for what you get, etc. I'm not the only one here that is advising against them. The top two 7" tablets on the market today is the Nexus 7 and Kindle HDX, great tablets as well as fantastic value, especially when compared to the Tab3. Their obsolete the second you take it out of the box, why would you want to do that to your self, to save a few dollars, not worth the aggravation in my book, the development is even poor for them. Enough talk, I have said my peace on the matter, it's your money, I'm just trying to help. if you you feel that 2012 technology for 2014 prices is your bag, than go for it.
What do you mean by Tab 2 8" ?

You keep saying Tab 2 8" ! While this device desn't exist at all ! Maybe Note 8.0 or Tab 3 8.0
For info, the Nexus 10 have an Exynos Dual (Exynos 5250) which perform 50% better than Excynos Dual 4212 !
Mali-604 GPU is just a Beast (I admit it) and is 50% better than Mali-400MP4 and PowerVR SGX544 w/ 3 Cores.
Don't forget, the Nexus 10 use a Google stock OS (like CM) while Tab 3 10.1 use a Samsung TouchWizz ROM. The full system package of Nexus 10 should NOT be bigger than 400MB while Samsung firmwares always exeed 500MB.
Nexus 10 have 2GB while Tab 3 10.1 have only 1 !
Mali-T604 is the Fastest GPU after Adreno 330, Mali-T628, nVidia ULP GeForce Tegra 4 and Tegra K1.
So don't Compare this to a PowerVR SGX544 !
Cortex-A15 is a HIGH-END feature after Krait.
All these just prove, that the Nexus should perform slightly better than Tab 3 10.1 in Gaming.

You right, I always call it 8", it's actually 7.7" http://www.samsung.com/global/microsite/galaxytab/mobile/7.7/spec.html. I know the specs of the two 10.1 tablets, why am I spending more for the Tab 3 10.1 then the Nexus 10, especially when one is clearly much, much better than the other. I just think that Samsung is cheating it's customers with Tab 3 series and I can't recommend it to anyone, especially when there are clearly better models out there. Oh and because of the poor memory issue with the Tab 3 the Nexus wipes the floor with it when it comes to gaming, I can't play even play games like Most Wanted without wanting to throw the thing across the room due to frustration. It's very laggy, jerky, horrible, maybe it will be much better after the 4.4.2 update, if that ever comes, another issue that Samsung is plagued with, llllooooooonnnnnngggg update periods.I think I will only buy Nexus Android devices for now on, best value, always get the newest updates quickly and they're fast.
The T311 is Better than the T211
I purchased these devices instead of the others you mentioned cause the T211 & T311 are NOT ONLY tablets but Phones as well, so its my back up Phone if Im going on Vaction with my Family or on a road trip, I have the Note 3, now thats a Device...!!! And Samsung made it. lol. However Im not saying that Nexus 7 line isnt a Great gaming Device cause i have it as well (2013 & its awesome), gave it to my 9yr old to play his Minecraft. Im just STATING the FACT, the T311 has no lag like the T211. That a fact, and it comes with 4.2.2 out the Box, instead of 4.1.2.. Ending this by saying that Im VERY happy with my T311...

You canNOT compare Tab 7.7 to Tab 3 8" or Tab 3 10.1
These new devices have faster CPUs than Tab 7.7 !
The sexiest thing on Tab 7.7 is that it have an Amoled HD display ! which make picture quality completely better than any Tab (including your so loved Nexus 7, 7 2 and 10).
For its Amoled HD screen I would buy this Tab instead of my retired Note 8.0 if it was available in the same Store in place.
BUT, about performance: Tab 3 8 and 10 are cleary better. Tab 7.7 uses old version of Exynos Dual while Tab 3 8 uses the new Exynos Dual
And about Tab 3 10, this obviously better :good:
Another thing is firmware, Tab 7.7 support (for stable or official release) Android 4.1.2.
While Tab 3 8 and 10 comes out with Jelly Bean 4.2.2.

My whole point was, yes, on paper the Tab 3 10.1 might seem faster but do to the lack of optimization on Samsung's part, the lag just kills the entire experience, it's really bad. The tablet is also cheaply built with a subpar screen. I have almost zero lag on my older 7.7, it hums right along. It doesn't matter, I returned the awfull tablet that is the Tab 3 10.1 and I bought a Nexus 10. Better on every level and I even paid 30 dollars less for it. I also got a Kindle HDX a week ago, my god is that one of the best tablets I have ever purchased, I also got an Otter case wich is built like a friggen tank. I flashed it with an AOSP rom and I could't be happier. I bought it to just use it as a reader but since it has a built in HDMI, I now also use it as a gaming console for my kids and I as well as a multimedia gadget for the TV. Best 7 inch tablet out there bar none, well maybe untill Opo comes out with their little monster. The more I play with the Kindle HDX the more I want the 8.9 version as well, so I will probably give the 7" to the kids as it's cheaper than a PS4 (they have an Xbox anyway) and buy the 8.9 LTE 64GB version for my self.
I never played with the 8 inch version of the Tab 3 just the 7" and 10.1". I'm glad you liked it though, it's important to find something you like, Going further though, I will stay away from Samsung's middle tier line for now on, I gave it shot and wasn't impressed with the build quality or speed. The competition just has so much more to offer in that price range. Even paying just 50 to 100 dollars more for a tablet gets you so much more that it's a no brainer. If someone can't afford the little extra cash, then they should defiantly save or buy from eBay. In the case of the Nexus 10 though, the better tablet turned out to be cheaper. It really is a much better tablet, I wonder why Samsung even bothered releasing a 10.1 version when they already had the Nexus 10, especially a 10.1 version that was so inferior and more expensive, crazy.
Awesome ! Samsung TouchWizz UI !

It really is a much better tablet, I wonder why Samsung even bothered releasing a 10.1 version when they already had the Nexus 10, especially a 10.1 version that was so inferior and more expensive, crazy.

I will always pick Samsung Dual Core Tablet having the same price as a Dell Tablet :silly:
The thing is that SAMSUNG is just a GIANT. Just admit it
HardCore Gamers always go with nVidia Chipsets (like Tab 1 10.1, Nexus 7 and so on)
Idk what I am going to tell you more.
One question: Are you a Tablet seller/reseller ?
Because you had Tab 3, Tab 7.7 and now you've Nexus 10 and HDX at the same time !
Two monsters (as you stated) at the same time is like making a 3 way SLI which really is a Money wasting

Being giant is part of their problem, they continue to release subpar tablets for a premium. Though the Tab 3 7" is now 150 dollars, when it was first released Samsung was charging 200 for it. In what world is a Samsung 7" Tab 3 even come close to being competitive to say a Nexus 7 at the same price. I never mentioned Dell in this thread but now that you have brought it up, the Dell Venue 7 Android Tablet now costs 150 dollars and it's a much better tablet. You get the same Intel CPU that is in the Tab 3 10.1, 2GB ram, 16GB SSD, 1280 x 800 and much better build quality, actually because of the additional Gig of memory and the unmolested Android OS it also faster than the Tab 3 10.1, go figure.
Gamers would also be well fitted with a tablet that has a Qualcomm CPU like the Nexus 7 or Kindle HDX. My whole thing is why would anyone buy a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7", when there are much better options for the same price and extremely great options for only 50 dollars more, like the EVGA Note 7 with the newTegra 4 CPU and an active pen digitizer.
The tab 3 10.1 I returned and bought a Nexus 10, the Samsung 7.7 I've had for almost two years which I have now retired and replaced it with a Kindle HDX. It will go up on eBay this week. So I only have two tablets, well actually three, I also have a Nokia 2520 Windows 8 tablet which I use for work, it's more of a laptop though as I use it mostly with the keyboard case which also has a battery in it. I get 16 hours of battery which I need as I travel a lot.
We should close thread right here !
You HATE Samsung devices, that's clear now
So just buy the one which suit you. I am happy with my Tab 3 10.1 and My Note 2.
My CM base ROM for Tab 3 10.1 is coming soon...

What part of I bought a Nexus 10, a Samsung made tablet, don't you understand. I like Samsung products just fine, I have 3 TV's by them, a 55" (living room), a 42" (bedroom) and 32" (daughters bedroom), son has a Sony, Chromebox & 3 Chromebook's(kids and my wife all have one), a Tab 7.7, Nexus 10, Note 3 and my wife and kids all have S4's. So I do like their products, in fact you can say we are a Samsung loving family, why do you think I am so critical towards the Tab 3 series, it was so disappointing to me that Samsung could produce such tripe. Good luck with your custom ROM, the Tab 3 10.1 is in desperate need of a clean Android build.
