Making flyers to fight the SOPA act - General Topics

Listen up people. This is what we need to do to help the public become aware of this very damaging Act. We can not let Big brother push us around any longer.And there constituents the big corporate companies. If you go to this web site and you click on the names of all the people that are in support of the SOPA act. You will see the huge contributions and a generality of where they came from.

What I and all the members of this site are in need of is something that we can print on paper that we can distribute to the public. So I ask the members to help us to get this done. Pleas come up with or help find the proper info that we can copy and past into a word document that will allow us to print it out and then hand them out to the public. I know that this is something that maybe I should do my self. But, I am on the road all of the time and I work two jobs. And have a wife and two children that I like to spend time with when I get home. I don't have much time to concentrate on this at this time. And we do not have much time. So I ask that you help us out. You do a lot for us in the community. And we as a whole are extremely grateful. We would not ask for your help if it were not so urgent. So I ask that if this is something that when and if done, you either post a comment here or you PM me the item in question. If this info is a collaboration from members and the info is PMed to me I will include if desired the members names that came up with the finished product. Maybe I am saying to much here as I some times do. Maybe this is a bad idea. But, I am not sure as to what else I can do at this time. Again, I travel all over New England all of the time. I will make as many copies as I can to distribute to the public. Also if there are any paper print shops that are willing to help and make prints to give out to people when and if this info gets posted here. I believe that we all will be extremely grateful for the help given.
As a matter of fact, I will make a place holder for the work of art that should be printed up. To the people in the print shops. I live in MA on the Northern boarder of RI. If you are going to pledge your support in this battle. I ask the members that are willing to distribute these flyers get in contact with what ever shop pledges there support and let them know when and where you will pick up the flyer's. And, as a note. If any one here does get involved in this. I can not stress enough that our conduct must at all times be civil. If we are in a parking lot and putting flayer's on peoples vehicles. Please be mindful of the accessories that you are wearing. So as to not scratch other peoples vehicles. And if the owner has the rite to kick you out of the parking lot do not quarrel. Just go and start else where. Thank you and i hope that I have not made to big a fool of my self. good day/night.

It was originally introduced "by House Judiciary Committee Chair Representative Lamar S. Smith and a bipartisan group of 12 initial co-sponsors."

Bear this in mind when considering Apex Laptops for parts or repairs! And also that they recommend their own company ( see http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=342361#342361 ) without full disclosure of their position within said company. Me, I'm bricking it now, honest....
And if they decide to delete their posts, don't worry, I've got them cached if they want to use them in court against me.... :twisted:

I had my Mio 168 repaired coz it had the same dodgey charging connector. I used a company in kent called apex laptops. Not a bad service at all. just glad my GPS is now working again. I'm useless at directions. Mitac quoted me a ridculous amount to repair it. Apex were a bit better. their website if you like it is www.apexlaptops.co.uk. hope this helps.

Now as new boards need the permission of HP to be distributed, can Apex Laptops tell me their HP reseller number? Oh, hang on, I can look it up. Wait a minute, there not on there! their 'board swop' method looks like their 'fix all' cure for even simple firmware issues that can be sorted with mtty or jtag....a corrupt rom usually just needs flashing properly using non-consumer methods.....
Now, people on this board start having a go at me ( see the 'crook' thread ) - I don't go around threatening to sue, I STAND UP FOR MYSELF. I don't delete posts like Munkeemajjc has done.....and their failure to reply in posts pointing out their self-recommendation and high prices should speak volumes. They have started to post links to the 'crook' thread on various message boards - thanks! Then people will see my low, low prices in comparison to their overpriced used parts :wink: so thanks for the advertising Apex Laptops!

Now if you had typed "we would always tell the client beforehand" it is a future statement that you haven't previously but would in future if needed...
However, the statement as written is past tense implying you have used 2nd hand parts. Hoist on your own petard methinks....

We suggest you advise the owner of the website and insist the comments are removed, and if you think that he will repeat them elsewhere then we shall proceed with legal action to prevent further defamation and to seek damages for the defamatory remarks which have already been made.
You could also seek a public apology.
Hope this helps.
So as you can see things may escalate as a result of your postings. I personally do not wish to continue with this as it is very time consuming for us. This matter can be laid to rest if you remove all remarks said about our company and maybe post a public apology.
I will leave this matter in your hands. You will not hear from me again if your actions are not well intended towards Apex Laptops.

Why not give me your solicitors name and I'll ring them directly? If they even exist, which I doubt. I'll I've said is:
you are OVERPRICED - which it true as I have demonstrated
you use 2ND HAND PARTS which you have admitted above and has been confirmed by previous customers...
and you REPLACE MOTHERBOARDS when a JTAG flash is all that is needed to re-flash firmware....

I personally have not seen any defamatory remarks - just comments about qoutes from munkeemajic's own postings.
I think he needs to contact his solicitor again and give him the whole story as the chap may change his ming when faced with an informed opinion and correct facts... LOL
Plus, I wonder if he has contacted the "owner" of the website and not Richard.

My name is John, I recently became the social media analyst at Samsung mobile. I wanted to start opening the lines of communication between XDA and Samsung. I think he's legit, folks.
If you are indeed an analyst for Samsung, welcome to XDA. I'm sure you've already noticed by now that there is a lot of cynicism both for Samsung and your claim of being an employee. Simple reason for this is that most everyone here feels that Samsung has ignored their pleas for help, didn’t deliver promised upgrades, and left millions of Galaxy S owners with buggy software/hardware, etc.
If your goal is to reach out to Samsung users at the grassroots level, you're in the right place. However, you also have a tough job ahead of you. The disenfranchisement runs deep and it will take a lot of effort to fix.
Here are some suggestions for you to escalate internally within Samsung:
1. Support the development efforts of the XDA developers. There are many talented people working quite hard to customize, fix and generally improve Samsung firmware. Samsung should make some effort to provide these developers with source code, tools, and help.
2. Take an honest and upfront approach to product defects that find their way onto store shelves (e.g. GPS, battery, etc). I guarantee the cost of addressing the problem will be fully offset by the shift in customer loyalty. An unreliable product is perceived many times worse if the OEM denies or ignores the issues.
3. Set a release schedule with carrier partners and stick to it. Apple has set the benchmark for frequent over the wire software updates. Android applications are updated with fixes and improvements on a regular basis. In stark contrast, our firmware lags far behind Google’s releases and FOTA is failing more than it’s working. This has to change. Samsung needs to push out regular firmware updates that are applied seamlessly without loss of data. Forget FOTA and do it like Apple does OTW (over the wire).
4. Allow users the option of switching to AOSP. Some people like TouchWiz and some don’t. Give them the choice.
BTW, in addition to being an informed consumer, I work in the mobile industry. I know a fair amount about how it should work. The Samsung Galaxy product suite is performing very well but the real question is how long will it last. Loyalty takes effort to maintain and is easy to lose.
P.S. I may very well be at SXSW but I won’t know for sure until a week or so beforehand.

You would think that someone who is in the position he claims to be in, would come in a little more professional than just a random post.
He said he has been lurking the forums and likes what he sees. So he has also seen all the dissapointment that is running through these forums as well.
If you were in his position would you not want to come in here, with support and proof of who you are? (there is multiple threads of the same post in other categories, all have been asking for proof for hours)
I'm not saying hes not who he says he is, just think he could have introduced himself a little better.
Guys, do a little research. Pretty easy to figure out that he is either very thorough or he's actually legit.
Maybe we should tell him that it is a welcome first step to see him here.
He is an analyst so he's going to have to escalate pretty far up the food chain to be effective. Hope you're a good communicator John.

To XDA, My reaction to Samsung RUSE

To the board of XDA.
Please give us more credit than what was proposed from Samsung. You are dealing with real people here, and no one is being paid to be a part of this great community that has been growing.
I found it offensive and belittling to all members that the solution that was brought forth was to try to establish a sub forum with specific brand in mind, for all our issues and concerns. We know, as well as them, the problems and concerns we have with our devices.
This site is "registration free", all they need to do is come in to each of the carriers forum and read what our concerns and issues are. Instead they try to take us on a rollercoaster ride that was very counter productive plus a waste of time. A mirage sort of speak for their political gain. In no way it benefited the members here.
I was actually shocked that it went as far as it did. The "hype" that they created was nothing like I've seen. They even posted a youtube video as a metaphor what was in store for us. Giving a false hope and yet tarnishing their company name even more.
What was the main goal? To sugar coat answers?
We want real world solutions, not the same redundant answer we've been getting (or poll).
Bottom line: A real fix. That's if they really cared
As a billion dollar company, Samsung, they can hire hundreds of people to go through all the post in these forums and collective data for themselves. As fore mention they know it's "registration free".
But someone was being paid to come in here to minimize bad PR. He was doing a job! And it was easily revealed. We, as members, are here voluntarily of our own free will. That's what makes this community so great. Keeping it real.
I know XDA was only looking out for our best interest, right? But I can say, "I saw this coming from a mile away".

I really think svetius needs to teach him a little pr. Maybe even have orb write his posts. I don't think he knows what he is doing.
No prob guys I would not leave you in the dark about this. I want to beleive the guy is here for good things but I just dont. If you stop and think for a min I think you will agree he is about as out of place here as as a fruit logo on anything other then a kids toy lmao.

No one knows, all that has happened so far was several q&a threads that were opened and closed quickly because for good reason we are all pissed.

Yea, and everyone around here on XDA were total D-bags and flammed the poor guy.
He's a marketing rep for Samsung, and I think was honestly trying to find a way to reach out to the XDA community. And in return, everyone ripped his thread to pieces.
I guess the old, "you catch more flies with honey than vinegar" doesn't work so well around here. Pitty too. Cause unless all the idiots around here plan on rushing the Samsung corporate headquarters and holding the CEO ransom, burning the one bridge set forth isn't going to get anyone anywhere.

I did finally find the thread, catching up now. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a trade in offer of some kind involved. Just speculation on my part tho. of course, after the reception he received here we probably won't hear anything now..

I agree. The way I see it, we have nothing to lose. They already have our money. Why not let the guy say his piece? Is there anything he can possibly say that will sway our opinion without doing something about the problems? Is he going to hypnotize us into buying more Samsung products?

With all due respect. Samsung has brought the hatred and anger on themselves. They choose to enter into agreements where they cant comment on the updates they provide. They choose to enter into agreements where they cant update their own hardware without the carriers blessing. They choose to allow their PR reps make comments about updates that never come dangling a carrot in front of those hopeful for the advanced features others on identical hardware in other countries enjoy.
Sorry they burned their bridges, they doused their customers with gasoline, you cant blame us for wanting to embrace them with our last fiery breaths.
Ok guys if this turns into a flame fest or name calling i will close this one as well. I am not sure what will happen if anything other then empty promises as like stated above "they already have our money." To be honest This will be my last Samsung device I ever own. No matter What Samsung has to say, I will never again promote a Samsung device, as I had big hopes for the Captivate. I should have known better after all the work I have had to do on their other smartphones, that this one would be just as much a POS as all the others, BJ, BJ II, Epic, Jack.

But when fortune turns in your favor, what's the best thing to do?
Continue the outrage and anger (justifiable as it may be) or turn the other cheek and see if something constructive can't be done?

I urge everyone to take one minute out of their busy lives to read and then sign this petition from the EFF for patent reform. It's very simple, and very well thought out. Yes, let's all take the time to provide our email address to an organization looking for donations to advance ideas that have ZERO chance of ever seeing the light of day. The last patent reform effort hasn't even kicked I yet. Congress won't look at this issue again for another 50 years, least of all at the urging of these hacks.
