The best way to root is to use the hack kit because its flawless in execution. And all other methods have a higher chance of failing. So use the ace hack kit and use VM or boot camp to load windows and do it from there. Other wise go to a school or other windows computer and execute.
And please remember to post in the right section from now on. Otherwise it'll be an all out attack.
Just pack up the phone, send it back, and get an iPhone. Or you could start to follow the rules of xda.

A. Don't look or search before posting
B. Create a thread in the wrong section (ESPECIALLY the dev section)

Please can you tell me if my HTC Desire S, which is rooted with a Three UK ROM added, will get the OTA Update of Android. It currently has Android 2.3.1 HTC Sense 2.1. My other HTC Desire S is not rooted but has updated to 2.3.5. The rooted phone also still has the old Market and not Google Play.
How many times?
Wrong place, wrong place, wrong place, wrong place...
Reported to mods for moving to "Desire S Q&A" where it should have been in the first instance.

It won't get the OTA because it is rooted and if you were given the chance to update it it would mess up your phone and it would not update properly. Which OTA are you on about? The ICS one that could be months away or the sense 3 one?

Is Alice trolling here? I can't honestly tell for certain.
The OP asked his question, there were then three posts relating to him putting it in the wrong place (again) and Sharpinator then answered him and asked a question back, so I'm not entirely sure what the purpose of your post was.
My query was about an Android, that's why I put my message in the Android Form.
Messages like, "Wrong place, wrong place, wrong place, wrong place," are not appropriate. People like me who are far from experts are only looking for some help from the experts.

You didn't put your query in the "Android Forum", you put it in the Developer Forum. If you are such a newbie here (which I find surprising given the fact that you have been on this site since 2004) then you could at least have the decency to read the forum rules first. As Sgt Slaughter stated;-

It isn't really difficult to look at a list of forums and work out that a question such as yours should be in the "Q&A" forum.
You were told previously on a different thread not to post in the Dev forum so you can't claim ignorance as an excuse, and you actually got your question answered as well, so I'm not entirely sure what your problem is.
P.S.

Any particular Android? Maybe the one in the 1982 film of the same name, with the memorable tag-line "He learns to love, he learns to kill ... Android becomes man"

And you didn't get an answer here because even after being given the answer, you still decide to make a new thread about it. Most probably in an attempt to gain your postcount.

Dear developers for the Sensation, I have a special request.
Could one of you please provide a flashable zip that contains the camera drivers for the HTC Amaze 4g? However, I've read that drivers are also in the kernel image of the particular device. If so, could one of you please modify a Sensation ICS kernel (if you are allowed to) to include the camera drivers for the Amaze 4g?
If you would be able to help with this request, I'd be able to try something, if it works I'll be able to provide a great gift for all the HTC Sensation owners here on XDA
This needs to be in Q&A not in the ROM thread.

It's a request, not a question This is something that will most likely need help from a developer, most of which are here in the developer's and Roms section. That is why. I hope I didn't offend you
True but the rules state that all requests / questions go in the Q&A.
Developers do look in the thead as well and help out if they can. This thread is purely for Roms and Kenrels for users to downlaod.
If you have any questions look at the top stickied thread in this forum and it will explain the rules.

No problem. If you are not sure where to post, you can ask in the general or Q&A sections. That way if you find your thread should then be in the developemt thread you can ask a moderator to move it.
I guess that is true, but sometimes it depends on the situation If this is something that I and other members of XDA can benefit from, I wouldn't mind posting directly into this section, considering it is a direct route to the developer(s) rather than an indirect route.
I've actually managed to think of a solution! Could anyone with any experience in linux kernels (eg compiling them from source etc) contact me? I'm on to something I believe
Having an issue with my HTC Arrive after flashing to the ROM listed here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1734171) worked for a while (two days) and still works but the phone is overheating when on and the battery wont charge unless I have a fan on it. Could be a coincidence but it started 2 days after the ROM installation. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this or could someone help me get back to windows phone 7.5. I tried to post this where the developer might have a better chance to see it, but I can't because I need 10 posts. I figure worst case scenario I post a few replies to this thread before I can then post in the Devs thread. Thank you for your time.

hey all, just joined the forum, been lurking for a while, trying to learn about the whole rooting process. i am still not 100% confident on the whole thing, but i am thinking about giving it a shot.
have had a few smart phones, all from t-mobile except for this last one, which is a samsung galaxy s3 from verizon, running android 4.1.2. i have watched a bunch of videos, and read a bunch of threads, but want to make sure i don't turn my phone into a brick by doing this, so i am asking here now.
if i follow the instructions in the video by officialphonerebel for the SCH-I535 will that give me root access? i tried to post a link to the video but since i am a new member the site won't allow me to do that. what else do i need to do in order to delete all the bloatware that comes pre-installed? do i need to unlock the bootloader? or will the process described in the video do that already?
thanks in advance from a dumb union plumber and pipe welder...

1.Does the video show you how to root from 4.1.2 jelly bean?
2. Yes you need to unlock the bootloader in order to flash anything.
3. Most custom ROMs have bloatware removed.
4. The only way to brick your phone is by flashing something meant for another device.
5. Kenny is a moderator so he doesn't really have to help you just moderate the forums which he did.

Thank you for the info. The video I watched said 4.1.2/4.1.1., so I am not sure if they require the same procedure or not.
So after I root the phone, I need to flash a custom ROM? I can't just run an unlocked stock version of 4.1.2?
Understood about the bricking, I will pay attention and read what I am flashing first to make sure it is for my device
This forum must run differently than other forums. I am a supermod over on a motorcycle racing website, and we need to be knowledgable about what we are moderating, and give advice and help the members, not just moderate.

I wasn't subtly suggesting anything. I think I was pretty straightfoward saying that in addition to moving my thread he could have helped me answer my questions.
Follow the instructions in below post

This will give you rooted stock rom.

follow the directions in this thread >>>> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2046439 and you will be rooted with an unlocked botloader and ready to flash.
from there you you can stay stock rooted and remove apps yourself. alot of people like titanium back up for that. or you can flash a touchwiz/samsung based ROM that has most if not all of the bloatware removed and allows to add what you want thru the installer at setup. you can find these ROMs in android development. or you can flash an AOSP (android open source project) ROM that is based off "pure google" with developer mods and preferences included. you can find these ROMs in original android development.
backup your phone. i use nandroid and nandroid manager but there are others that may work better for you. only flash stuff for vzw. have fun.

be careful of what?
and now i understand that this forum is different than the others i frequent. like i said, i am a supermod (voluntarily as well) on another site, and on that site, all of our mods, supermods, and admins need to be familiar with all aspects of what they are moderating, so i assumed (incorrectly apparently) that this site was run the same. my apologies for that.
my attitude? i thought it was rude of you to just moderate the thread, and not even let me know whether or not you could help or not. it was fine to tell me you moved the thread, and it was my fault for posting it in the wrong section, but all you had to say was "hey listen, i don't know much about your device, but you posted it in the wrong section, so i moved it for you." and everything would have been fine.
i read tons of "support" threads on this site, and was not aware that it was for developers only, again, my apologies. can you direct me to a site that is for support please?
for those of you that helped, i thank you.

Thread closed, I will assume you feel it necessary to vent your frustrations, but again, your above post does nothing towards the contribution and/or furthering of development.
One of the main rules of XDA is to read and follow the posting rules prior to posting. Nowhere in these rules is there a requirement for, or of, a moderator to answer your questions just because you asked one. We act on reported posts from users that violate XDA posting rules, and yours did.
If you are a moderator elsewhere, you should be familiar with the codes and standards that it takes to moderate. Firing back and getting the last word in to moderators here is not a classy or nice thing, might be on the site you volunteer on, but not here.
Now, KennyGlass123 may unlock so that you can reply to him. Or, you could have used the PM system to express your dissatisfaction of things. But you did not, hence, me locking this thread.
Have a good weekend.
