Flashing radio - HTC Sensation

Just a quick question. In the tutorial for flashing radio..it says to do it through the adb comments. Why? Can't we just flash in clockwork? I tried the adb method n didn't seem to work then flashing in clockwork instead seemed to changed the radio when I look in the hboot screen.
So does it work just flashing in recovery?

Hi,
Not wishing to alarm you,but flashing a radio, there is a chance of bricking.
There are 2 ways of flashing.
1.PG58IMG.zip on your sd card
2.ADB method.
1. is easier but carries a greater risk than 2.
Either way, make sure you do a MD5 checksum of your radio image.

Thx. Luckily it worked with the pmg method. But how does one check that md sum? I saw it but didn't know what I was supposed to do.

Hi,
Md5 checksum is a way of checking the integrity of a file after download.
Any bad download will soon be revealed
Google it.
There are lots of free apps available.

Sounds like you are trying to write it from fastboot. To do this, you'll need the engineering HBOOT (ENG S-OFF). If you don't have ENG HBOOT, then you'll have to use the PD98IMG.zip method. See this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1106324
You need ENG-S OFF

If your going to give information, at least try to make it correct and reliable.
you do not need Eng s-off, and in fact it is strongly recommended to not eng s-off your phone.

He's getting serious because radio flashing IS serious, Eng-off is very serious and dangerous, when not having to do it, why risk it. You need to go to this thread:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1106324
Rename the file: PD98IMG.zip (if it isnt already) and run an md5check on it, then match the md5sum with the one on the thread
(If your running windows, google md5checker and download a utility)
Place on the root of your SDcard, not in a folder, run another checksum on your phone (i use hashdroid) if it matches reboot into your bootloader and wait a second or two, hit volume up if you want to flash it and let it do it's work.
Your done, ignore eng-off comments unless you want to take the risk of bricking your phone, can't get easier than checking md5sums to ensure yourself it won't brick, as long as that radio is on the thread i posted.

When i was using windows i downloaded some tiny GUI that you located the file and it ran and pasted the sum in a box. don't know what it was but it was quick, light, didn't need to be installed... Basically the next step up from command line.
Linux ftw nowadays tho... lol..
Thanks guys for all your inputs, i have successfully flashed the radio via the PD98IMG.zip method.

ROOT Sensation

Alright I am a noob, I have legit looked everywhere but all I have been able to do is find noobproof rooting methods and those won't work for me!! I had an LG optimus one and I rooted it simply using the app Gingerbreak, flashed a whatchamacallit recovery thingy......and installed cyanogenmod. I forget exactly what I did. See I am really new to all this. Basically can someone tell me what is so different between rooting an optimus one and a sensation? and can someone direct me to a post that DOES have a simple way to root, or at least take the time to write one here? I would appreciate it EXTREMELY MUCH.
Thanks!

I was like you just yesterday but lost my virginity last night ( as far as rooting goes). It's super easy to do. Check on YouTube there are vids that show you step by step how to do it. I didn't want to root my sensation before cause I didn't know anything about it. But last night I just did it and my current rom ( android revolution HD 3.6.1) is beyond amazing. People who don't root have NO idea what they're missing. It's a must. Anyway you have to use the revolutionary method to get S-off. Getting S-off doesn't mean you're rooted it "just" mean you have an unlocked boot loader and you can achieve root. But yeah check the vids on YouTube just type how to s-off and root sensation and follow the exact same step. When you're all done, check on YouTube again how to flash a rom, you will b a pro in no time!
Thanks!! yeah I did root my optimus one like I said and flashed cyanogenmod but my phone stopped receiving texts as soon as I did...I thought it was the fact that I rooted it, but in fact it was cuz I didn't pay my phone bill for two months so i was afraid of rooting after that for fear that it might happen again. But yes, so,
where does busybox and superuser fit into all of this?? I recall when i rooted my optimus one superuser appeared on my phone...and I had to download busybox separately. Is busybox necessary for flashing certain roms??

You can download both from Android Apps. Sometimes when trying to download an app (eg.Titanium Backup) it will ask if you want to load busybox or superuser. It is not very difficult.

I can't get over how simple rooting and flashing a custom ROM really is.
Took all of twenty minutes including downloading all the files, I'm now S-OFFed and running ARHD 3.6.1 with the recommended radio and my phone is absolutely flying - Quadrant benches of 2800+.
And as above, if I ever need to go back to stock I can either restore the backup I made when flashing the ROM, or flash a stock RUU and job done.

Right, the issue is covering ALL your traces for warranty purposes, ie if something goes wrong physically (internally) with the phone.

Read section 5 of the n00b-proof guide and you'll get everything on how to go back to 100% stock (S-ON, no root, etc)

about to get this phone. Roms?

ill be rooting this, how do i get ics? do i have to flash a ruu then flash roms? or if i want, i just flash sensation xe roms and im good to go? please help
Right now there are a couple of ICS roms.
Personally I'm using ARHD's ICS rom & it works perfectly with a good battery life.
Follow the steps here till after writing SuperCID.
For ICS ROM, you would need to flash firmware from 3.12.401.2/102 RUU from here.
For support for newer ICS rom's like ARHD's. All 4.0.3 ICS Roms runs on 3.12.401.2/102
& It's been said that this firmware runs good with Gingerbread too.
-Warning Only Flash after Rooting-
Heres the one I'm using. ARHD
The guide to do this can be found at ARHD's post itself under the "How to Flash" Section.
Hopes this helps!

you MUST do Super CID. Set it to 11111111.
MAKE SURE IT IS 11111111 BEFORE FLASHING.
If not it might cause issues like bricking.

Does the rom boot? If so just use the 4ext app to flash a new theme. That should overwrite whatever is corrupted. If that doesn't work reflash the recovery entirely. You can do that from the app too.
If that doesnt work comeback with a more detailed description of exactly what you get.
