Hello all. I'm new to Asus and Android stuff. I had Windows 7 on my Mac and everything worked flawlessly. But Windows was messing arround with Mac and I decided to remove Windows. Now the question is, how can I make the Mac to see the Asus TF101? I've tried with Software update, searched Google and nothing...thanks in advance.

Since u are an apple fan boy when it comes to the pc side of the house, my advice is to trade in your transformer for an ipad. I think u will find that ipads play better with mac os and android plays better with windows and linux.
"See" it how? I have a Mac and none of my Android devices (Motorola Atrix, MototACTV, TF101, Nook Color, Nook Tablet) have any problem connecting either over USB mass storage or through adb.

Thank you for your replies. I don't want an iPad because I have iPhone and for me iPad it's iPhone XXL. I just wanted something new. I've found a tool that works well for me : Search "Android File Transfer" and download the tool. Hope it helps other people. (I cannot post links,sorry).
Hey man, I have a transformer and a mac too. All you have to do is download Android File Transfer app for mac. It will automatically open when u connect your xformer to ur mac and you can transfer files.

I recently bought my first smartphone here in Beijing. It's a dopod D805; I hope to upload media to it from my Vista-loaded PC.
The problem is Vista doesn't seem to recognize the device. I downloaded Windows Mobile Center (sorry if I've got the name wrong) but it doesn't seem to do anything. The CD that came with the device doesn't work (it keeps telling me to install Flash 8.0, which seems to imply the software on the disc was designed for pre-Vista systems).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Update:
The phone seems simply not to work on Vista. I am now dual-booting XP alongside Vista, and have had much more success using XP and Activesync.
A new newbie question:
I cannot copy files (music, PDFs) from my PC's HDD to the phone's drive. Each time I try I am told there is not enough free space on the drive. This is absurd, as there is nothing on the drive other than what came on it, and the files I'm trying to copy are quite small. What gives?

Thanks for the response.
I checked that page before posting, but it doesn't seem to have much beyond the specs for my model.
All I want to do is install Pleco, and upload some MP3s/PDFs. When I plug the device in, I get the "bing bong" sound, but no new HD appears in My Computer. Since I'm running Vista, I can't use the bundled Activesync software.
Help?
i dont know if this will help but i cant sync my phone with xp unless i set my firewall to allow all.
if you go to my computer and look at your drives, does it not show you phone there as F: or whatever?
Right, it doesn't show a new drive. Note that I'm running Vista, not XP. I'm in the process of getting a dual-boot setup going, but I'm not there yet. Very frustrating.

Need to run two reader apps (two parallel texts for reading the original literature) on one screen. Two copies of the same program like Moon+ would be even more nice.
I'm fairly certain this is impossible as of now. Either their are no apps that can possibly come close to supporting this. Or, this it is merely a limitation of the current android operating system.
But for the record, this would be amazing and drool-worthy.
there's a UI system someone posted a while back that allows android to operate in a 3-viewport mode, where you have 1 big viewport, an 2 smaller viewports, each running a different app. and you can switch between them. there's also ixonos' thing...which is a windowed UI. i personally prefer the former, because it wastes less real-estate.
neither of them are available atm, but they will soon.
although i don't think you can run multiple instances of the same app.
oh yea, the adam ink has a multi-pane launcher as well, which works just like the first one i described, and that's already available...although it doesn't seem like it's very good.
either way though, android, and especially honeycomb is capable of multi-tasking, i think it's just a question of ui issues, and everyone is trying to find the best presentation for such a function.

I just unrooted my Asus eee pad transformer and I want to use in dual boot with first O.S Android and second Ubuntu.
I download from internet the following folder zipped:
linux-flash-kit.tar.gz
Ubuntu.img
But I don't Know how to go on, could you help me?
At the moment I download in MicroSD memory ( 16 gb) Ubuntu .img and into " linux-flash-kit.tar.gz" I can see file like "flash-linux-android.sh".
Now I confused because on the web I can see a lot of information but, for example, in this last folder I can see only to start on ubuntu ( desktop) but on other topic I can see using APX mode on Windows but They use others files.
Could YOu help me to understand where I have to paste files and where i Can start installation?

Have you had a look at Total Commander for Android ?
It's an official android port of the classic two-pane file manager that and works great on the Transformer.

Connected the Xoom 2, to a windows 7 machine.
Insists on letting installing 'Motocast' which I let it...what a complete pile of shi*.
I want to 'sync' a 700MB .avi video, over usb cable, to the device...estimated time? 30 minutes!!! I swear this complete toss of software is insisting to re-encode the entire file to some bullsh*t format of their choice. Is there an option to turn this off and transfer it natively?
Secondly, thankfully, it also installs native 'portable' device drivers, allowing Windows 7 file explorer to browse the device. Great, so I copy the same .avi file and paste it to the device...'Do you want to copy xyz.avi? Your device might not be able to play this file' I am prompted...'yes' I click. Just as it finishes copying (after about 4 minutes...much better) it bombs out, notifying me that because the device cannot play this file it is cancelling the transfer...wtf?!?!
The only interim solution i've found is renaming the extension '.avi' to something like '.proprietrysoftwarecansuckmyballs', copying it, then renaming it back to '.avi' once transfer has completed solves this.
So can anyone offer any 'clean' solutions to my file transfer woes? If theres no improvement, this device will be getting returned next week, which is a shame as the tablet is a great bit of kit, its just a shame the software blows.
Look for "Wi-Fi File Explorer" in the market.
This looks like it only transfers over wifi?
I need to transfer over usb cable.
Had this problem myself, looks like it doesn't come with the drivers. After a bit of searching, I found that the standard driver package works:

Installed that, unplug the USB cable and put it back in - should work fine!

Hey thanks man, that worked a treat.
Just for clarification, does you still prompt you that the device may not support playback of the file, but then successfully transfer it (whereby it would previously error at the last second)?
No idea - haven't had that particular part of the issue myself - the main thing I had was the slowness...
I am a linux user ... i will only have the option to upload files via wifi network ?

That's the only usb-way i come up with. I'am on snow leopard and Google's Android File Copy tool does not work.

I guess the same way will work to linux too . Xoom2 has only one partition on the disk ? that the reason not to be able to mount it as a normal usb ? If you root the device is the anyway to great a small 2 Gb for ex partition to use it for easy transfer ?

As a Linux User I hoped being able to use MTP... But I tried mtpfs and mtp-tools on several distributions without any luck.
But what is worse is that FTP server applications won't work too! I tried SwiFTP, FTPServer, and some other: the servers are not reachable. It appears that not even a single ping can reach the tablet. I think Motorala have put some kind of firewall in it (maybe it has something to do with the netflix HD certification?).
For me this tablet is actually useless. If I can't find a way to transfer some files on it without using MotoCast today or tomorrow, I will bring it back to the supplier...

You probably hit it on the head about the Netflix certification. I would think about returning it, man.
a solution ?
Thanks to a French forum (frandroid, in the Xoom 2 topic... sorry I can't send links here), I tested a solution to the transfer problem: It is possible to use (on the computer) a server to share the files such as a samba server.
It works fine. But it's not as easy to browse, select, copy and paste file with explorers on the tablet than it is on computers (several windows, keyboard shortcuts such as Ctrl-c/v, and so on).
But it's now possible to exchange files with the Xoom 2ME without going through a cloud or using Windows/motoCast.

Sorry for answering so late.
The screen is quite good.
The battery life is terrible compared to my ipad2. Charging needs a lot of time and is very slow. I guess it's because of mini usb only.
Currently i'am using the device as a Kindle Fire replacement, because off the lightweight (KF is heavier and bulky). The books i usually read have more weight than the device itself.
I like it for that.
But i may not be a good adviser because my device is a prototype. It is not smooth and the speakers are terrible.
I think 8,2" is the perfect size for me. The weight is so much better than any other tablet i had.

Try using a terminal on the Xoom 2 and ping the computer you're trying to connect to, while pinging your Xoom 2 from that computer at the same time. It's like you have to force them to see each other before they can start connecting in future.
I used fileexpert to see and download files with smb shared folder on Ubuntu Linux without a problem.

My husband attempted to connect his Tab 2 7.0 to our desktop computer which runs Xubuntu 12 only to find he cannot transfer music or video files to the tab. I ran across the "[GUIDE] How to transfer files in Linux" thread, forwarded it to him, and he followed the directions given. Everything appears to have gone smoothly during the process, however Linux is still not recognizing the tablet or the tablet gives a (vague) error. We never had this trouble using the Samsung Galaxy Player as it would simply connect and we were good to go. Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated. If I need to give more details, let me know! Sorry if I am not providing enough information to start with.

Since ICS and Jelly Bean no longer support USB Mass Storage for file transfer (replaced by MTP) file transfers between Linux and ICS/JB are a little harder at the moment. I run Fedora 17 and am not able to drag/drop files from my PC to my tablet. Until the kinks are worked out I'm using scp to copy files. I installed "DropBear SSH Serfver" from the market, which is a good SSH server.
There is a tool called 'gmtp' that is a GNU/Linux UI for MTP-Filetransfer. It does not always connect to the tablet, though. But when it does, it works like a charm.
Ah... if you disable ADB, gmtp should more realibly connect to the tablet.
I'm currently trying out ADBFS.
I'm a little disappointed with the decision to move to MTP, but I understand why they did it. In order to allow you to mount as mass storage, it has to first unmount the flash, which can cause issues if events come in and sounds (which exist on the flash) need to be played, etc.
Honestly, I just use a cheap NAS at home and use Astro to transfer files to and from it. I don't need to worry about cables this way.

So today I started to wonder...
I currently have an iMac computer.
I bought it to edit pictures when I was into photography.
But I since lost interest in photography and slowly sold all my camera gear.
Currently I only use the web browser and iTunes.
I don't need to work on my computer at home. I don't produce documents nor do anything creative. For work I have my office computer.
I don't use applications, as I use Google services through the web browser.
So, I was thinking about selling the computer, buy a nice tablet like the Asus tf700 and keep some money.
My only question is if the tablet is any good to handle my files on the external hard drive, mainly music MP3 libraries and pictures.
Can an app like ES file explorer allow me to create folders, rename files, move them around like finder on a Mac or windows explorer?
Can a tablet read and write files to my USB external HDD?
What do you think of this idea?

Based on your detailed description, a tablet sounds like it will be sufficient for you. But i warn you, it is a significant jump. My 6yr old Dell laptop started acting wonky, and I replaced it with the Asus TF300 in May. It wasn't until September where I truly noticed the productivity advantages.
Also, Asus tablets come with MyCloud, which has Splashtop HD installed by default. Use it. It...is...awesome...and very useful. You still get the "computer" experience from it. Keep that in mind.
for your current demands a the most tablets should be enough but if its potentionaly that your demands could change in the newr furture, you should maybe consider one of the coming W8 Tablets
One thing that I did forget to mention. There are a selected few things that computers do MUCH better than tablets, and probably will never change. Try taking a PDF file with over 200 pages, and search for a word (doesn't matter what word you choose). Your computer is capable of finding all of the instances much faster than your tablet would. Windows and Macs are better at handling numerous files simultaneously than Android. There are some things that I would still turn to the computer for.

that is exactly what i was talking about this could be a good reason for W8 Tablets or the now gratly hyped "Tabbooks"
It really depends on what are u doing on ur pc if you only browse internet, listen to music and play some games, of course good tablet can replace it. But if u use ur pc for work then it could be problem for you imo
