So, im rooted 3.2.1 and now i can not for th life of me find a method for putting cwm on here. The guide i found needs to be flashed through cwm and the link in the asus tf reference page in the dev section points to a method that appears to have been patched last spring. Any ideas?

Hi.
I'm getting ready to update my rooted 3.0.1 3G Xoom and have one question before I start.
I just flashed ClockworkMod recovery 3.0.2.8. Do I still need to apply the new_recovery mentioned in this thread:
[UPDATE][HC3.1] Wifi and 3G! Completely Flashable! No Fastboot Needed!
Or can I just start at step 2?
Thanks,
John
When in doubt, just follow the instructions. In this case though I think you'll be OK.

OK.
I suppose I can install new, then reflash the latest CWM after upgrading if need be. I'm guessing new is a modded version of CWM anyway, since Solarnz is responsible for both.
thanks,
john

The 2 are the same. If you see in the Solarnz thread BRD even points to this and also mentions that Solarnz will now be handling all CWM updates. So if you want to be completely safe, install the CWM as referenced by BRD, but there should be no need to reflash the new Solarnz CWM after.

Yeah, I did see that, and noticed the latest CWM thread was dated a day after the upgrade/rooting guide, and that Solarnz was the guy responsible, and that the descriptions for both were pretty much the same.
Basically was just wondering because the upgrade post didn't explicitly say that new_recovery_.zip is CWM. But now I know.
Thanks...off to upgrade and root.

(oddly, I received the upgrade notification this morning....everything I've read said I would not receive that because I'm rooted. It is annoying to have to keep hitting "install later" )
Just got a refurb tf101 b70 and I was trying to figure out the best way to root/install CWM recovery...
When searching I tend to find instructions that are outdated or not for my version, any info would be appreciated.
Root with ViperMod (use option 1)
Install CWM with RecoveryInstaller
Yeah I saw vipermod as an option to root and I've seen recovery installer mentioned.
I'm going to look for recovery installer and go from there.
BTW is there a thread for more info on recovery installer?
thanks

Actually you need to look for ViperMod and go from there.
Can't have CWM till you're rooted

Yeah, Id suggest you read this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494230
It covers pretty much everything in an easy-to-understand way.

Yeah I ended up finding that thread (should be a sticky)
It's a little dated on some parts but awesome.
I used viper root and recovery installer then flashed CWM touch and android revolution HD because it was close to stock but fast, and also Hulu worked (hulu did not work on frozn or revolver.)
BTW in cwm touch (repack ver) it didn't read from the micro SD slot is that normal?
I was all ready to flash a rom i downloaded and it didnt read the ext SD...
Thanks guys...
The touch recovery only read from internal sd storage.
cwm 3.2.0.1 does read from ext sd card. I believe after that recovery it went to only flash from internal storage
Good to know I will just install the non touch version, thanks.
I'm sorry but I've looking everywhere and I'm not quite sure I understand. But how would I go about rooting my transformer if I have the stock 9.2.1.27 already and not rooted before or now. I've seen patches for this update if you already have CWM from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1627301 Do I need to downgrade somehow and root it (if so, how do I downgrade?)

I second this! Used PERI to root and it worked like a charm and pretty much noob proof as i was a noob as well when i just got my tf101 about 3 weeks ago.
Another option would be to downgrade to Honeycomb
What I did was use Wolf's method #2 as found in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1622628
I then used the NachRoot method to obtain root as found in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1427838&page=1
I then installed Rogue Recovery 1/3/0 as found in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1346180
and updated recovery to 5.5.0.4 as found in this thread

I just got a used tf101 and updated to .27 not know the root issues people are having and found out myself nothing works. Ive tried Peri multiple times and doesnt work ive tried numerous "one click roots" and they all do nothing. Now if i try to boot into recovery i get a dead android guy so i assume i dont have a recovery image and that could be my problem. If anyone has any ideas please share. I would really like to get cm9 on my tab as i have it on my sgs2 and its by far the best
The /data/local/tmp link
Peri worked for me with a .27 tf101, but when running Peri I suggest restoring the /data/local/tmp afterwards
e.g.
adb shell rm /data/local/tmp
adb shell mv /data/local/tmp.bak /data/local/tmp
Hi dudes,
happy to found this EEEpad forum.
My name is Oliver 39 from w-germany...
My girlfriend own the tf101 with update 9.2.1.27...and since she updated

Any idea? - THX and best regards, Oliver
EDIT: tried 0.2, 0.3, 0.4...but always the same message...

I used this on .27 this afternoon and it worked like a charm.
I have looked all over the forums and I can not find it. All the forums show how to root a Xoom with Honeycomb or Ice Cream Sandwich TO Jellybean, but what if i already have JellyBean? I just want to get superuser access onto the stock Jellybean ROM and Kernel.
This Link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1796335
Has been the most useful so far, but even it only roots Ice Cream Sandwich.
How do I root Android 4.1.1 on my Motorola Xoom with 4.1.1.

Do I need to have clockwork mod installed or anything, i have done NOTHING root to my xoom. I rooted my HTC EVO 4G. But i havent flashed a recovery, installed a ROM, No SU, NOTHING. So what exactly should i do with your zip?
Use instructions and tools in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1468298 to get Clockwork installed, and then use the modded zip that matt4321 posted (I think that should work... )
Yeah use the AIO tool to unlock your bootloader, then you want to install CWM recovery, then boot into recovery and flash the zip I uploaded
I used this exact process (ended up just GEDify'ing it after sending it back to stock), but before I did that everything worked fine.
Thank you!
I'm too junior to get a Thanks button, so thank you to matt4321 for the JB universal XOOM root, to airesch for leading me too XxLordxX's link and of course to XxLordxX for the tools and instructions to get my XOOM rooted! Worked perfect on my XOOM WIFI JRO03H with no problems. You guys are the best!:good:
stuck on Starting Fastboot Protocol Support - Xoom Android 4.1
I'm trying to follow the directions to install ClockworkMod Recovery
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074979
I'm using Recovery Image (solarnz-R4c-100611-1150) FLASHED THROUGH FASTBOOT
MD5: 20575d4b62bf697f77abca9093877ea3
and following the procedure for "Method 2 Without CWM"
I got as far as entering the code: adb reboot bootloader
The Xoom rebooted and the Motorola logo appears with the message "Starting Fastboot Protocol Support"
It's just stuck there.
The volume up/down buttons don't do anything at this point.
Any ideas?
thanks!

N00b tutorial: Flashing EOS3 to MZ604 Xoom (Wifi)
Hi,
thanks for the url.
One problem.
And the most important, download EOS-RECOVERY-V6, the "recovery software" that will allow you to work without the need of the PC:
Recovery Image: http://goo.im/devs/teameos/recoveries/wingray/eos-recovery-r6.img
This link goes to a file not found page.
Any update on where I can get that file?
thanks!

You have to use another recovery. Eos-r6 was abandoned and another recovery came in as the perfect one. TWRP recovery

Matt,
Is this file appropriate for the WiFi only Xoom?
I installed TWRPv2.8.0.0-Wingray-Non-BigPart on my Xoom. That process went flawlessly.
I used TWRP to install "vanilla" Xoom-Universal-Root.zip. This also appeared to go flawlessly.
However, various root checker apps tell me I do NOT have root.
Please, any suggestions? I ultimately want to get to BigPart but I'm stuck at this point.
thanks,
Dave

Yeah, that zip should be good to root any Xoom on 4.1. I wouldn't bother sorting root if you want to go to bigpart as it wipes everything anyway.
Jump straight to bigpart, read read and read again this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2506997
Once that is all sorted and booted, I think you should be good to just flash whatever root tool you want (SuperSU, phh superuser etc)
My memory is rusty on all this though, I haven't messed with my xoom in a long time and you quoted a post over 4 years old lol
Ok. I have an Unlocked Asus Transformer Pad Infinity TF700t and I had it rooted with TWRP 2.2.2.0 on it. I flashed the JB update from Asus, but I forgot to use RootKeeper for my root. Because Kernals don't match I can't go into TWRP anymore because it fails. I can't update my TWRP with 2.2.2.2 because GooManager doesn't have root permissions because I'm not rooted. I am stuck and want to have my device Rooted. The only way I have seen someone can Root there device on JB is through NVFlash, but I can't use it because the latest one was prior to .30. How do I root my tablet and install the 2.2.2.2 recovery once it is rooted?

You install TWRP 2.2.2.2 via fastboot or you can do it on the tablet without a PC by using terminal emulator. Then you can flash superuser and root will be back.
It's all in the dev section under the new TWRP thread.

The first thing you should do is read through what is already out in the forums before crowding an already crowded forum with duplicate questions. There is a thread in the General section titled - [How to]Root JellyBean. It really doesnt get any clearer than that. Sorry to rant but i get tired of going through these forums to find an answer and sifting through countless post that have already been answered or addressed. It seems way worse on this devices forums than others i have used. Just to be cooperative and helpful while ranting here is a link to the thread-

Now it worked. Early today when I went to install the script from goomanager. It wasn't updated to the 2.2.2.2 or .3 yet. it kept saying 2.2.2.1, so it obviously wasn't going to work. I wasn't sure if I was doing anything wrong or not.
