[Q] bricked at&t world phone - Captivate General

okay so i thought id try the odin 1 click for my gt 19000 and then it decided to brick im thinking about buying a jig thing to help but im not sure i'll do anything to get my phone back only had it 2 days and bricked i brought it used
i ask nicely for any ones help, thanks in advance

ummmm....you have an i9000 and you used a one click from the captivate section?
that is beyond comprehensible.

uuummm okay crazy i know i couldnt update it i should'a read more into it i know but is it fixable? =/

if the phone turns on at all yes it is normally fixiable with a jig. double and triple check before you flash next time lol

Lol okay thanks i brought a jig iunno how to use it though would i need a different version of odin or some thin and do i need to download anything else like roms or what ever

yeah well just to be sure check your model number and make sure you have the I9000. then go to the i9000 forums and find a flash to stock. and with the jig just pull your battery and put it back in and plug in the jig and that will put you into download mode. any other questions just ask

thank you ever so much, so i just go into the forms on here and find i9000 flash thingy (if you havent guessed im entirely new to this ) maybe i should have NEVER attempted to do this at all its all kies fault if it would just upate my phone then i would be happy lololololol

is it really an i9000? like with 1 physical home button and 2 capacative buttons?
there is an entire i9000 section specifically for your device...i have no idea why you would use captivate anything.

yeah its really a i9000 good phone lol ima bit of a numpty but ill learn from my mistakes just samsung's ****e kies that made me think there was summit wrong with it.

i know it seems silly but can some one give me a quick guide maybe and before i do this again i wanna know if i need anything else apart from my phone and odin ( is there any different versions of it apart from 1click ) maybe summit like firmware?????? thanks in advance

dude. there are f'ing tutorials EVERYWHERE for this sort of thing. of course there are other ODINS aside from the one click. what you need to do, as has been stated already, is GO TO THE I9000 FORUMS AND READ, READ, READ, and get your information for your phone from the section dedicated to it.
laziness is not an excuse.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I DID IT i fixed im excited thank you so much for help =) this form is now in active as i dont need any more help xD be the last time im doing that

Expermental (odin) gb loaders with recovery access

These were origonally from the vibrant fourms a little tweaked they should work with our phones looking for someone to test to see if it actually works
You flash via odin
THESE ARE EXPERMENTAL IF IT DOESNT WORK IT WILL 100 PERCENT IN FACT BRICK YOUR DEVICE NO ODIN WILL FIX IT YOU WOULD NEED TO JTAG OR RIFFBOX YOUR DEVICE TO GET IT BACK
LOOKING FOR A TESTER
IF YOU ARE NOT COMFORTABLE WITH THIS DO NOT BE A NUB AND FLASH HENCE THEY WILL BRICK YOUR DEVICE IF THEY DO NOT WORK LOOKING FOR A TESTER TO TEST THEM
I am not responsable for any damages these may cause they are expeermental at best they are based however off the i9000 boot loader and sbl that came with kf 1
if these work
For Recovery - Lower Volume Key + Power Button
For Download - Upper Volume Key + Power Button
that will be your new commands
lol seems like everyone is afraid of this one

An unbricker gizmo?
I heard that for the captivate and i9000, there is a little USB tricking jig that touches 2 points in the usb port area using 3 resistors. This forces the phone into download mode. Isn't there something like that, that could be used incase we hard bricked our phones incase we wanted to test this and it bricked us?
I AM WAY TO SCARED TO TEST THIS AS DAD BOUGHT ME THIS PHONE AFTER I BROKE MY HTC DREAM(G1), AND I AM TOO SCARED TO DO ANYTHING THAT COULD HARDBRICK OR PHYSICALBRICK MY PHONE.
(I would have been happier with an android device that is easier to DEV for though. Maybe an MT4G or even a G2 or a Nexus S. Samsung has completely screwed android to the point that we can't even install cm7 YET)
that's to get your phone into download mode .

Scary Scary ODIN

Does ODIN somewhat scare you also? Positive and Negative experiences, i have heard more of the latter. What if we gather some devs. and develop a new flashing tool. Yes ODIN is works, and the features are great, but for "newbies", it can be quite scary for them, and they, as well as us, have a great chance of bricking our devices. Let me know what you think. Cheers!
No problems whatsoever with it. There is something else out there...Heimdall. It actually is scary.
Honestly, the only thing you could do to make it any better is take away some of the "don't touch" options. Remove Phone, remove EFS clear. You aren't going to make it any safer than it is when used properly, because you're still goign to be using the same protocols.

Thats a great idea! And maybe make it a bit more user friendly, "easier" to flash your ROMS, at least until they get CWM on their devices, then it's a piece of cake, but we all know that's a lie
I just follow the directions in the stickys and all is good. I use it and if I forget just look it back up.

Never an issue flashing through Odin. The check boxes should be right as soon as you open the program. All you should have to do is click PDA then select the file and hit "start." If you ever need walked through the process, you can send me a message on GTalk @[email protected]

The reason you have heard more of the latter is because those people need help and come here to look and ask for it (which is expected). Those that have success using ODIN don't post that they successfully used it (except for cases like this thread).
I've used ODIN for over a year now on both my Fascinate and now my Charge, and I can only remember one issue where the flashing with ODIN didn't complete properly. That was because of a bad download. I tried it again, and when it didn't flash for the 2nd time, I came back here and downloaded the file a 2nd time, and that worked perfectly. It is almost impossible to hard brick your phone (won't work again) with ODIN. You might get your phone to not boot up, but you should be able to use ODIN again to get it flashed correctly and working.
The simple answer is if you read directions, then double and triple check everything before you click start, you'll be fine. If your still scared you shouldn't be rooting your phone! Or fork out the dough and send your phone in for un-brickable mod and never worry again!
~Sent using my Humble Charge~
Have flashed with ODIN dozens of times. After all that, I had only a couple of occasions where the phone would boot-loop. That was easily overcome by following the "How to fix your phone" instructions.

black screen, can't get to download mode

I think I posted this in the wrong forum, I suppose I was a little confused on my phone
I have a US AT&T version of the i727 Skyrocket. I think i accidentally flashed an improper kernel:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1369977
I didn't realize I was browsing the wrong forum *sigh*.
Anyway, when I went to reboot after installing the kernel in CWM, I get a black screen. If I hold down both volume buttons and plug in USB, I get nothing. It doesn't seem to put it in download mode. There, it doesn't get recognized in ODIN.
What are my options here? Would a "jig" actually do anything in this case? I can't tell the scenarios it can actually recover from and not.
Hard brick, its done
Jtag or send to samsung

If it does absolutely nothing, i'd say you bricked it which is quite possible if you flashed something for another phone. I don't think a jig will do you any good, based on things i've read before. Not 100%. Maybe someone else will give you some better input.
thanks for the replies. I can't get it in to download mode at all, so I'm afraid it's hard bricked.
Are there any guides to doing the jtag repair yourself? I'm pretty tech-savvy and comfortable opening up the phone, etc. I could get my hands on a jtag unit.
I just don't want to keep bricking it and sending it out for another $50. I'd rather have a solution where I can fix it myself.

I'd hope not to, but on my first try I bricked it. I've never bricked my Nexus S after a ton of crappy kernels. Sigh...
Doesn't look like anyone has figured out a homebrew JTAG solution.

Well, jtag for this phone was just made possible only a month or two ago. There may be a guide somewhere, but I dunno. You flashed something from a completely different phone, any time you do that you are pretty much guaranteed a brick. Just pay attention to what you're doing, man. Read more and flash less.

Right, understandable. Lesson learned there.
I can't tell if this is legitimate or not:

$50 isn't too bad. Obviously doing it yourself, if you could, would be better. I'd be on the safe side though and have mobiletech (i'm assuming you know about them), do it.

[Q] my phone wont turn on

Alright... heres the situation, I have an Samsung galaxy s2 LTE i7R2 from Rogers... rooted.. worked fine. tried to flash a rom after erasing all data... and now my phone wont turn on, cant boot whatsoever.. tried pulling battery and holding the volume buttons and plugging in usb to download boot and no dice...
ive had this thing for 3 months its for sure not the hardware... anyone know how the hell i can fix this situation without returning my phone... im not a dumby.. but i feel sort of dumb for trying to put a i777 rom on my phone and not realizing it until my phone doesnt boot anymore... uhg... someone please help me
Flashing a 777 rom is a hard brick so no you can't save it you f'd up jtag is your only hope

uhg... i guess ill just take it back to rogers and say it crashed..
Uh oh, here it comes....
Its just common since to not flash anything for any other phone. You learned the hard way instead of reading.
oh believe me.. i was reading up all day.. i am not a tech noob either, i deploy computers for a living... i just had so many windows open i downloaded the wrong zip because i was checking other roms and features out... blah i guess ill just make a USB jig..

Yea i have looked through google... its a hard brick so not much i can do at this point.. i was thinking a USB jig would get me to download mode... but im being told other wise.. blah this sucks
I suggest sending it off for jtag. You knew the risk, now pay the price. Its an expensive lesson. But a lesson learned hopefully. you can probably get your phone back instead of trying to con Rogers out of a new or refurb phone.
There's another one for noobs/ people who don't listen or read other peoples mistakes! Huh way to go to make skyrocket owners look like we like bricking our phones....
Android 4.0.4 AOKP
Ok first of all relax on the hate... im not making anyone look back but myself, i clearly made a simple mistake which cost me a working phone, not much i can do now... i may still try to USB JIG and see if i get anywhere... if not then i will send it in i guess.. anyone know the cost of a Jtag... and what are the chances of rogers just replacing it.. or reflashing it
Seriously.... http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/samsung-galaxy-s-ii-skyrocket-jtag-brick-repair/
This was recommended in the past. Next time search before you post.
Well i appreciate all the suggestions and help.. and sorry for the hostile people who clearly need to get girlfriends.. like calm down its a question first of all, second of all not everyone has time to spend 9 hours researching bricked phones, I agree i should have taken better steps towards not bricking my phone.. my bad, i guess JTag will get this one... or i will send my phone in to rogers most likely for repair..
It only takes 10 seconds to GOOGLE. Just saying. Its just thread after thread after thread of people flashing the wrong rom, asking for stuff that is right in front of them, or posting threads in the wrong forum all together.

Samsung stratosphere Binary Counter

My samsung stratosphere has been having USB charging problems , and its within the one year warranty , So I wish to take it in. But about two - four months ago, I tried rooting and flashing different roms to it. Well it has binary counter of 3 right. Bought a USB JIG , hoping that it would fix the problem, but after buying it, i googled it more and found after 2.3.5 , the JIG doesn't work. or atleast the one i bought. Can anybody recommend a way to fix this?
