I want to start of by saying I mean no disrespect to all the devs/cooks here. I appreciate and love all of their hard work.
Now, after flashing countless amounts of roms/kernels and always having some type of problems like GPS, small mms, random force closes, etc. I went back to complelty stock and wow... My phone is smoother than I ever remembered. My data speeds seem a little faster and GPS locks on faster than ever. Battery life is a LITTLE worse than custom roms but I figure I spend less trying with the screen on trying to get stuff to work so it evens out.
Well I just thought I would share my experience. If you are like me ALWAYS trying to find the perfect Rom/kernel combo that just works, then try stock one more time. It just might surprise you

Been reading alot about the whole process of rooting and flashing over the last few days, and I must say I join your conclusion somehow. Instead of seaching for minor improvement that sometimes set you back in other fields, why not just use the Stock options that the producer can stand by.
Even so I can totally understand the willingness to try and make a product better, and understanding it in the best possible way. That beeing said, I hope they still continue the great work with making custom roms to further push the limits of our device.

If you're happy with the factory ROM, then a custom one isn't necessarily better. One of the things I like about Android though is the freedom to use my phone the way I want to, and that includes custom ROMs if one better suits my requirements. It's all about choice.
most people simply want to remove the BLOAT that comes with stock roms so basically once you receive the opportunity to root you simply freeze the BLOAT with titanium backup and keep the stock rom. I personally like AOSP and most phones don't come with AOSP out of the box unless it's a Nexus so I always end up flashing a custom rom. But I can say that I was running CM7 on my Sensation and became sick of the browser freezes and I went back to stock for a few days and LOVED it eventhough I hate HTC Sense LOL it was just nice to have a phone in which EVERYTHING worked as
it was intended
I personally think a custom kernel has more influence on daily use then custom rom. The differnce between zram and no zram where huge for me on gingerbread.

The stock ROMs are usually the best option for most users. Pretty much the same as any custom vs. stock situation. My co-worker is using a ROM that blocks all data usage except from the browser. He loves it. His battery lasts two days without effort and he doesn't miss a thing. Personally, I'd go nuts if that was the stock ROM, but it is good for him.
Have to agree that it's really about choice.
If the missing features are ones you never use then you haven't really lost anything.
I had my Sensation running on a custom ROM within hours of buying it and I've never looked back (though that may be to my disadvantage since I have no point of comparison).

Tried several custom roms and there always were a couple functions that weren't working properly. Now, since one week back on stock and S-on, most stable and complete rom there is. Eagerly waiting for ICS
if it wasnt for these roms... i would get to damn bored of my phone really quickly... would spend a lot of money buying a new phone as soon as im bored with it..
I can bare the small errors i get, fc etc.. as soon as its up to date, new improvements both visually and functionality. i mean, i got beats on my sensation (non XE) it looks good to have, but also better sound. I got original 1.5Ghz dual core instead of downclocked (by HTC) 1.2GHz... i still got approx 30-40hrs of battery. and thats good!

HTC arent dumbasses themselfs - they know how to make a great phone. they make phones they think as many as possible would like - with all their criteria; stability, good battery, performance etc. By trying to fullfill everyones wishes, somethings are being sacrificed ( such as 1.5GHz for better battery).
Thats why custom roms exists, so you can adapt the phone to your needs...

It boils down to preference really. Installing roms from other phones or customized ones so you can enjoy the full experience of your phone is just a choice. Like I the stock rom on the Sensation but then they came out with the Sensation XE with beats audio and I love to listen quality music. So then that rom was perfect for me.. My .02 cents.

I agree. My old phones like the og droid, Eris, D2 global, etc were all improved with roms. But htc did a really good job on the sensation. After flashing the stock Rom and installing 2 ota updates that they have released it is smooth as butter. Even texting this message on my phone seems faster and more accurate than I ever remember.

It honestly boils down to pure preference. Specifically for the Sensation, most people like custom ROMS because they hate HTC Sense. So they are willing to deal with FC's and less stable ROMS just so they can never see Sense again
Since I cannot stand the sense ui yes, custom romd are better. I have no issues with cyanogen mod. I suppose I could always use stock rooted and a custom launcher though.

Custom ROMS are basically for people that want something different on their phone. Stock ROMS are reliable, stable, and provide default phone usage. On the other hand, stock ROMS (depending on what the developer has done to it) can change the way things looks, are, feel, and work. Some also have the capability to make your battery life last longer than the stock ROM. Custom ROMS are better or suck compared to stock ROMS in their own ways. It's just up to you, to decide which ROM fits your needs and expectations. Developers have this thing called a changelog that lists EVERYTHING that they have tweaked, changed, or improved since they created the ROM. It's best to look at and read it, to see if you like what they did to it/changed, or what it makes your phone capable to do. To me, it's all about what you REALLY want on your phone and all about researching the custom ROMS.

I am sure some a gearing up on the ICS roms but over all there just doesnt seem to be a whole lot out there for the phone as far as roms go. I completely respect the work that has been done and am certainly grateful! However...my G2 seemed like it had a new rom out everyday with so many options to choose from. Maybe it just felt that way because it was my first Android phone but honestly I still visit those forums and see new roms coming out. For the Sensation they all seem the same with very minimal tweaks to the device. Are we still waiting on something or is this phone left in the dust with all the new phones(amaze, SGSS2, etc. etc. )? Just wanted a most likely more informed opinion then my own
What more can this phone do it will match any newer phone out. There is only so much u can do on a phone and most roms are at a stable state so there is nothing left to add. We still see a couple roms updated a week which isn't baf.its just slowed because there is nothing else to add all the roms have everything already

I just know with my G2 I was able to find a couple that I was more then content with. (I know STFU and go back to your G2 then) I love the Sensation...just looking for that happy medium that I haven't quite found yet I guess.
I think you have to look better. There is still much development going on, many ROMs out there. In the last days there have not been many updates, as there were no new leaks from HTC or from anywhere. But the kernel devs are still developing like hell.
For me my ROM is very stable, I don't miss anything what could be done on ROM-base. So why updates, updates and updates? Never change a winning team
After testing a lot of ROMs, most of them are already quite stable... Don't think there's much to work on. It's a good thing no?

I guess you haven't heard about ics source being out and a rom. being developed right now for it?
I'd say it's pretty far from being dead... There are some pretty good ROM options out there... InsertCoin, Android Revolution HD...which really make the device shine on a whole new level... And something brand new comes along every week or 2...
I guess if you're looking to download a new ROM every day, you might consider it dead...but then again, who'd want to switch ROMs every day? I, for once, am content with the current plateau...it lets me actually USE my phone...rather than keeping it plugged in and flashing/reflashing all the time...
Anyway, stay tuned...
Well, developement isn't dead, but it's booooring as hell compared to what Desire was/is. That's the problem with having current high end phone, there isn't much stuff to port.
It just look boring because most of the roms are the same as in sense 3.5 wich cant be fully theme yet. Almost every rom is stock sense 3.5, thats why i`m still on sense 3.0 because it can be fully customize. Nobody is trying to make their roms look different like on the desire forum and other forums. There can be many sense 3.5 roms but if they all look different than it will look like a lot of developement is going on but because they look the same makes it look like nothing is going on.

There is a rooted stock ROM, there are about 4 Sense 3.5/Android 2.3.7 based ROMs with full Sense UI, there are two direct CM7 ports, there are at least 2 Sense 3.5/Android 2.3.7 with some or all Sense UI components stripped.
I really don't know what you're expecting. We have basically everything you could hope for at this point.
If you don't mind going without Sense, I highly recommend HyperSensation, as I've seen between 14-25hrs of battery life on a single charge depending on usage (14hrs being with constant, heavy usage and long phone calls over 3G).
While ROM development has certainly slowed down, the kernel devs are still releasing betas every couple of days, which in my opinion is more exciting because the kernel side has a more direct effect on speed and battery life.
I'd say just find a stable build and run with it while we wait for ICS stuffs to be released.
By the way, have you checked out the MiUI build that MiUI.us is putting out there? It is by far my favorite rom to use (yes you can theme it to NOT look like an iPhone lol) and it's fast with excellent battery life. The only thing that keeps me from making it my daily is the need for a good camera with full HD recording, which Scott and TD are actively working on. I have two young kids under 2 years old, so I kind of need that stuff haha.
For what it's worth, my daily now is ARHD 3.6.7 with Faux's 0.2.5.5. Excellent stability, speed and battery life so far has been awesome.
Since ICS source is out I doubt any Devs would continue work on Gingerbread based ROMs. The reason Desire has more development is all the Sense 2.5+ ROMs are ports and so require fixing and more development. Since Senny is a stock Sense 3 phone there is nothing that can be added that aint already been done.
Once ICS development gets going we will see more ICS stock ROMS.
ICS will be better on Sensation. +trolface+

While I agree this phone isn't completely dead, you should look at some other phones out there. The vibrant for example or desire have had and still have more and more diversified roms. Most of our sensation roms are just sense over and over again. Anyway just my 2 cents.

Seems to be related to Sense being more popular on Sensation than other phones, in this case the users here lack interest in CM & AOSP & MIUI. There is some interest but that doesn't make up the majority of the users of Sensation; I find it quite odd since normally MIUI & Vanilla would have more users than the stock UIs(based on my past phone experiences). If people cared more for CM/MIUI/AOSP, then development may be much better, a new MIUI ROM would be made every week by TheDerekJay when I had MT4G, and I miss this kind of updating on my Sensation. Not to say devs here don't update, can't really say the rate of updates is equal IMO.
Ive enjoyed all the development that goes on for sensation. Was this thread posted before actually looking at the dev section??? 2 pages of roms are at least updated every 2 weeks

there r many roms running sense 3.0 / 3.5 but all of them resemble each
and the development for ICS it's slow in Sensation
there r many devices run ICS with working touch screen and every day have update .. last ICS update for ICS before 5 days and i think the rom not a flashable file
I bought the Sensation to replace my Desire, and it's true that I am a bit disappointed after the number of ROM available for Desire ... but Sensation's ROM are very good, I miss a really stable AOSP ROM and it could be perfect!
ROMs have gotten to the point where they are pretty much stable, what more can you ask for?
I think you'll start seeing things as HTC releases more for our devs to customize the ish out of.

One thing that I did when I first started choosing which rom to put on my Sensation was ask myself a few questions:
1) Do I want the phone to feel the same as it does now or be drastically different? (ie keep Sense [same as stock], no Sense, AOSP [Android Open Source Project] or MIUI)
2) Do I want to use a very popular rom or go with a much smaller, lesser known rom?
3) Am I T-Mobile and plan on using Wifi calling?
4) Which looks the way I want to have it look? (ie Themes, extra addons, etc)
5) Do I want something stable or something cutting edge?
6) A rom which has just been released in its first version or a rom that is on version 3 with 25 previous updates?
Asking myself those questions helped narrow things down for me.
The other thing I would suggest is try a few. Look and find a few that use the same firmware version as you are currently on (so you don't have to risk flashing back and forth between firmware versions). Download them and try them for a few hours (or a day) at a time and see what you think. The first time I "caught the romming bug" when I first flashed I chose ARHD because it was popular, stable, and very low risk. Right away I flashed several others such as InsertCoin, CoreDroid, Virtuous, etc and each had things I liked that I now use to determine what I want.
Ultimately for me, I use mine as a phone for texting and phone calls. I decided after trying many that I wanted it to be a popular rom that was reliable with no problems major problems.
I hope those questions help you out a little as you start making your decisions.

there are two major categories of roms here, the ones with sense and the ones without sense. i tried pretty much all of the roms and i can recommend you virtous inquisition when you prefer a senseless rom close to aosp (android open source project; stock android) or the insertcoin rom when you like sense and the sense apps / widgets. (i currently use insertcoin and it is frequently updated, offers an amazing battery life and a very fast and stable performance. same for virtuous inquisition)
Well here are some preferences of mine...Perhaps you can narrow down three or four first choices.
Well I would not know the difference between sense based and not right now, so probably should aim to get close to it and slowly experiment outwards...
I want completely stable, the xe is fast enough so don't need faster (for now) but I do want themes capability. I like a very personalized interface. And ideally would rather make my own, but doubt I could without software for that like I had on my K77i.
I don't particularly care about popular, but I suppose popular does indicate stability and or other major benefits. I would not risk a new ROM I think.
I use mine, for everything, much more than calls and texts, and would use it to read a lot. So in that sense I do need low power consumption. Movies mostly at night with lowest brightness, but some times videos during the day too, such as exercise programs...
I hope not to catch a romming bug, I have had the phone only a few days and it's still not got all I want organized into it...It takes a lot of effort to set thing up right, at least for me, so I don't want to do that every couple of weeks...Mind you when I have the apps I want and calendar set up and what not I suppose that won't be so hard.

if you're going for the ics aosp feel then you should try both hypernonsense and virtuous inquisition and then decide which one you want to keep
as someone already stated - you should ask yourself what do you really need and it should be easy then...
for instance i need a stable room,ics looks,everything working and as few system apps as possible(only those which are required for a rom to function properly),no live wallpapers,no unnecesary ringtones and simillar so i chose hypernonsense

HyperNonSense is everything Virtuous Inquisition is, but without all of the glitches and with significantly increased speed and fluidity.

So the actual CM9 builds aren't doing it for ya are they?
When choosing a ROM I typically look at the bug list first to see if there are any show stoppers then its on to the comments posted to see what the general consensus of the ROM is.
Really though, I do a lot of sampling to get a feel for what ROMs I like best and narrow it down to just a few then flash between them depending on mood really and whether or not I feel like running AOSP or Sense based.
It looks like I am going to go with hyper nonsense first to see how that pans out.
I have to say though, I have read the guide three times through and skimmed another dozen times, and honestly it's a little hard to follow for a noob like myself. Are there are any other versions of the guide to do all this?

It.is scary at first bit once you do it once it becomes a lot easier. Just take your time the first time, double check you've got the correct files, and then take a deep breath. LOTS of people have done it and I'm sure you'll be just fine.

Apparently that is a very god guide, flashed with success, though I am having troubles with it, not aside from the fact that Titanium has been giving me issue hanging lots on certain installs, and now certain games crash upon loading past the main screen. and other games I now have touch issues, randomly it seems as it seems to freeze control for a few seconds.
ANd I am right in understanding now that my firmware is upto date I ca flash any ICS based rom?
I think it was the firmware issue that I missed in the hypernonsense rom thread, and that is why it banjaxed things to bits...
I am still looking at other roms bbig time like, I want go launcher as my base and I think the ICS base takes up far far too much space, I am getting lag with ARHD and not even all of my things are back in place.
The other issue I have is now I need to clean up my phone, 16gb card and I have barely 2gb left for all the different back ups...I only have 4gb or so in my documents folder which is where I keep nearly everything from pictures, music, videos and ebooks etc...
I think it will be easy enough to clean up some things, But for those apps that persistently bother me, Is there a good clean up tool, for destroying apps, plus data???Preferably a super user app with batch automation???

Wow you are spot on!
I thought of recommending you cm10.1 kang or something.. But the good camera won't be a pass in this (hands down sense 3.6 camera is the best).. So your choice is perfect except you'll miss the latest version of android (jellybean)
Btw you should use sultans sense kernel as hyper non sense is still sense based but 99% sense stuff removed

I'm curious to know why people actually spend the time on their phones and risk bricking and voiding the warranty on their phone to install the latest stable or beta ROM for their device. Is it because the stock ROM doesn't let you do your daily tasks? Or is it slow? Or is it buggy in some way?
For example, I have a HTC Desire. The reason why I installed custom roms was that I bought it second-hand with Oxygen (gingerbread 2.3.4) already pre-installed. It had some bugs as it was a beta version, but overall it was pretty good.
I then found Cyanogenmod 7.1, where I was able to get around the major issue of apps filling the tiny internal memory using scripts to put entire apps on the SD card. I was stoked, and it ran really well with no major issues. It felt like a new phone.
However, I just got my dad a HTC Desire HD, and it has the stock Sense 3.0 on there (Gingerbread 2.3.5). I was going to install Cyanogenmod, but now I'm wondering if it's truly worth the effort for a basic user.
So why do YOU install a custom ROM?
I install custom ROM's, Radios, Kernals, etc for one simple reason......
every Android phone that I have ever had the pleasure of tinkering with, works better when rooted and ROMmed. It truly gives you the customization that makes you feel like the phone belongs to and was built for YOU!!!

How do you know for sure? I'm the same, I just flash it without thinking, like I did with my new Samsung Galaxy S2 just a few days ago (ICS, woo!). I was just about the flash this HTC Desire HD and I thought hey... who knows, maybe stock ROMs are pretty good? Or are they generally rubbish?
Well, my D1 ran stock for two months before it got pimped, so I gave it a very thorough chance! My wifes Eris ran stock for four months until she was ready to throw it off a wall, so it got its fair chance too! Then she moved to a D2G, which ran exceptionally well out of the box, I was kind of upset that she didnt like her experience. It did however, run a lot smoother once root and Liberty was added! And now for our GNex's........I ran stock ICS for two weeks and I must truly say, this device doesn't need root or anything else to kick ass, it just does! However, the developer support is just too incredible, and when you add ICSourcery to a GNex, you'll know why it must be rooted and running that ROM!!!

well i have a GN, so bricking or wrecking it is low on the list, its so easy to root, unlock, flash. I love stock ICS, but I do like the extra features I get with CM9.

The main reason I rooted my phone and through a rom in there is to get the portable wifi for my tablet.
Reason: to learn more about Android phones, and to get rid of bloatware.

because roms are a whole world, it's not just performance or bugs, is the option to change to customize toggles, positions, color, overclock and every little part of you phone...
for example, the resurrection remix or any AOKP let you put calendar events on lockscreen, show wheather in a special panel in the statusbar, hide your battery icon and put a line to measure it, you can even put a navigation bar like nexus
... it's not just cool and waaaaaaay better than stock rom, it is although handy
To get rid of the bloat-ware on the stock firmware!
There is tons of reason to update to a custom ROM. The big deal for me was getting rid of the bloat, also having more features with CM7.
So I could have stock aosp OR sense 3.5. I like both, especially on the thunderbolt (similar to the HD) nothing seems to slow these phones down.

There are many reasons. For example, the phone looks, feels and works like i want.
And one more reason is, that the original software is not so perfect as the most users want.

The reason why i'm using a custom rom is the phones OS feel more smooth and stable and all the bloatware from HTC,Samsung etc. were removed so the performance is much better

I currently have a HTC Sensation on T-Mobile US and I was wondering what are the differences between the ARHD T-Mobile ROM and ARHD 6.6.5XE (My current version). Is battery life, reception, or data improved in any manner? Would I lose Beats audio?
Battery life is horrible. It goes from 100 to about 10 percent in about an hour of use. With nothing but WiFi on. It goes from about 75 to 10 percent in about 2 hours with the screen off. I am very disappointed in all sensation roms. In MY opinion none of them work right. I am sure someone will say I need to be kicked off because I stated my opinion. My opinion is that they don't work right. I superwipe and let it sit for 10 minutes each time I flash but all the roms never work right for me. No beats audio but also in MY opinion its just a marketing gimmick. Why waste 17 mb of storage to have one sq setting when you can download an eq from the market and set it any way you want?
I never have had that bad a battery drain with any of the ARHD roms. However the big difference, in my mind, between the tmous and the xe rom is the radio. Yes they both use the same version of the radio but the radio is set to to dish 2 on the tmous rom, better signal and strength in the tmous in the US. Also the xe does have beats but as said before you can download an eq from the market.

All the roms I've tried work perfectly, not only that, they in my opinion are MORE stable than the stock rom! I'll give an example, stock rom kept rebooting all the time, NEVER had this happen with custom rom. Also my battery life is MUCH better on custom rom! This is the truth. Custom rom in my opinion is MUCH better than stock. More options, smoother, faster, better over all experience! This is my honest truth. Not for one second do I regret having rooted and running custom rom. I think most people would agree. Custom rom is the only way to go! Iove the wonderful options of Roms we have here at xda Personally I'm grateful for the many wonderful choices the developers give us. I've NEVER had a negative experience with ANY rom. I've chosen !

google could wipe iOS off of earth if it just collaborates with XDA developers
I don't know why my battery life is so horrible. I hate it. If I leave it sit with screen off and set CPU turned down it will still die within a couple hours. Lately the phone has not been ringing. It was rebooting after I tried a new kernal. It would restart every time I hung up from a call. It would be nice if the battery wasn't so weak. I've had this phone for less than 90 days and I got it brand new. It is MY PERSONAL opinion that these custom roms keeps to be worked on more. I can't remember where it was that I saw it but there was a whole list of bugs for a certain rom that was months old and none of the real bugs never get fixed. Everything was still in red and one thing that was in green highlights I guess that had been "fixed" was that the play store had been updated to the latest. As if people can't do that themselves when they install a new rom. I could be wrong but in my opinion nothing in a custom rom truly gets fixed. I have problems with the stock browser in elegancia. It only goes to google when I try to do a search. I have other problems too. Arhd works pretty good but this battery sucks. Truthfully I'm done with custom roms. Next phone I get (if its even another android because again in my opinion all android phones suck, maybe its just the os but everyday I realize that android is not really such a great thing to have) anyways next phone I get will be reasearched

I think you will be better off with an iPhone.
I enjoy the freedom that Android gives more than the others.
I have had BlackBerry, Windows phone 7, and pretty much everybody in my family have an iPhone.

I believe Android is a excellent operating system! Also I've tried numerous Roms and they work perfectly. Your saying besides the foul language that they do not function correctly? I've never ever had a negative experience with Any Rom I've choosen. You are not forced to root nor are you forced to use custom rom. So I feel your anger and flaming are not necessary. In my HONEST opinion I love Android OS and love the choices of available Roms. No offences but I don't understand why you are still using Android if you hate it so. I was just stating my opnion and their is no need to become ABUSIVE to me. Android gives us more options than any other system, its open source, also the Roms have proven MUCH more stable than the stock systems in my experience. I don't have constant rebooting, its faster, more options, smoother and looks better. It's a all around better experience. Nothing to attack me personally about.....you sir have anger issues.... I refuse to stoop to your level and flame back at you! I stand firm in my opinion of Android and custom Roms. There is a simple solution for your issues, simply get a different device and operating system and be done with it.....there is no reason to be so angry....I have my opinion you have yours. Wipe soma battery stats anda follow some basic common sense about charging the phone and my original batt has lasted a year plus. The "life " is about the same as a year ago when ADHD first hit.

You honestly are one of the only people to actually give a helpful response. Thank you. Any comments on battery life? I can always get through a day with 6.5.5 but I'm interested to know if the tmobile ARHD will provide any benefits.
Sorry for the long absence, the ARHD t-mobile rom has given in my opinion about the same battery life as the 6.5.5 does or did. The only actual benefits in the tmous rom is the signal I feel is better due to the dish setup. But if you're half savvy with a computer and adb you can change dish setups yourself.

I had the same problem as you. I bought a replacement HTC battery for an Evo3D on eBay, and my battery life problems are gone. You probably need a new battery.
Ok, so im moving from the htc sensation XE to the HTC one.
During my time with the sensation, i pretty much put on every rom/kernal/patch etc and the in the end, im posting this from a stock rom.
Why?
Well, i found that not one custom Rom worked 100%. The CM ROMs especially, with poor camera, poor scrolling and poor telephone.
ARHD became unbearable, with FC's and Permission bugs, the Sense 4 ROMs were slow and on and on.
Coming back to stock, after using ROMs which (apparently ) have been super optimised, I don't notice much difference in performance tbh. Battery life is similar, speed is similar etc.
YMMV on this one, but whatever.
In fact, the stock Rom just works
So, fast forward to two more iterations f the smart phone, and I believe the immense power now available should mean that the "optimization" ROMs, CM etc are becoming pointless. There is ample power to run the stock Rom no matter how bloated it is.
Some exceptions would be a slow roll out of updates from your carrier though.
Anyway, after flashing so much, and reverting back to stock, I'm not going to be in a rush to put a custom Rom on the One when it comes.
Even rooting it, I may hold off for a while. I'm just not sure these days what the point is.

Different people have different uses/needs. All custom ROMs pretty much worked on my HD2 (although it's an exception since it originally had WinMo) and all of them work smoothly on the N4. Different devices also have different bugs, so you can't base the entire decision on your experience with only one device. As for why you'd want to flash one if you're OK with performance, the answer is that some of them have tonnes of features and UI enhancements. Take PA over stock 4.2.2 for example, or an AOSP based ROM over TouchWiz.
I have been thinking the same for all the reasons mentioned. I would like Titanium and Nandroids and some status bar themes. But, otherwise, for me, custom roms may not offer much. And, they do seem to have their own quirks. The stock roms and better processors now days can stand on their own for most folks. Having flashed hundreds of roms, there has been many occasions were I did something and said "Oh S--T" I am bricked. Luckily I have always been able to recoup. I am looking at the One and S4 and may root after a bit, but may not flash a custom rom. My One S had no issues running with the bloatware. But, who knows after so much flashing it may be hard to stop.

This is where alot of people get confused. The point of making a custom rom was never for everyday people to be flashing them, They were for developers to try new things and see what they could make happen. Does this break things? Yeah from time to time but that is all part of learning.
That's all true also DK. It does depend what we want from phone and if we want the risks of flashing. I have done it long enough and maybe just getting old and tired. It takes a lot of time to keep up with the roms and not have to rely on others for all your info. Although XDA was/is a dev forum, it has also benefited in member growth with all the people now interested in flashing.
I think it is more likely with the new phones that some will not see the need to flash a custom rom as much as they wanted/needed to say 3-4 years ago.
Either way it is still a personal choice and more than likely I will still flash whether I need to or not--

Oh trust me If it wasnt for the crapware and bloat OEMs added to their devices and the absolute UGLY look to them I may not feel a NEED to flash a custom rom but with the listed things for me it is still very needed. Mainly the UGLY. I can deal with a bit of lag but it better be good looking while it lags lol
