I'm itching to flash my NS4G with ICS and I'm unlocked, rooted, and ready to go.
I want to start out with something as close to a stock installation as possible, and I have read numerous other posts about "stock ICS." But what/where is "stock" ICS?
All the ROM's in the NS 4G Forum seem to have their own level of tweaks and enhancements (and accompanying bugs.)
All I want is something close to pure ICS with, prehaps, a kernel that can be overclocked.
Appreciate the insight of those who know. Thanks!
Stock is probably equivalent to AOSP source, unaltered.
Thanks...but where do I find it? There are at least 4 different ROM's that have the ASOP moniker.
I would suggest Peter Alfonso's build

Before you go any further consider the Slim ICS ROM in the dev section.

I couldn't find Pete's ROM on XDA but found it on his site... would it be pete_crespo4g_ota_01-11-12.zip for the NS4G?
i suggest you: Cyanogenmod 9 NS4G
you will find all the information you need in this thread :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1403247
Yes use Pete crespo
But I believe someone ported the OTA ICS update and that's what your looking for.

He has work in there, its not stock like you think. Everyone will know its based off of it when we see the kernel.
If you want untouched you'll have to compile yourself from source which takes like 50gigs of you hard drive and takes forever to complied then you have to do the same for the kernel.

Ok that would explain a lot. Any ETA on the official ics?

Or not. You install stock OTA, remove the recovery script if any, flash back CWM/TWRP and SU. Bingo.
Unsuccessful troll is unsuccessful.
Hi there. I'm new to the Nexus S. Bought a second hand one after my first Android phone (galaxy ace) died due to water damage. After a week of reading I unlocked the bootloader and rooted the phone.
Now here is my question, I am a big fan of PDroid wich currently only runs on gingerbread. I really love the ICS interface but until PDroid can run on ICS I am looking for good deodexed gingerbread Rom. So I would like to ask your opinions on the GB roms.

I tried finding Nexbreed on XDA but the thread was closed due to warez. Did you get it from a different site?
Thanks anyway. Someone else opened a post about GB roms and alot of people are recommending Oxygen so ill have a look there.
I ve downloaded it in Rom Manager. Oxygen is good too but i prefer Nexbreed because for Oxygen you have to wipe cache and i need my cache.
Ah ok.. I never used rommanager because it bricked the galaxy ace. But I'm guessing you can download from within the app. I'll check it out. Thanks!

Bugless Beast and Carbon are both good roms too
Nexbreed is a good one try it out.

So I made a PDroid patch, flashed nexbreed had a little problem with super user (didn't seem to work) just reflashed the one I still had from rooting. Flashed PDroid an all works well! Later I will try the other GB roms you all advised but for now nexbreed is looking really fast and stable. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. And let's hope ICS support for PDroid will be out soon

After trying nexbreed for a few days I am happy with it and want to see what else is out there.. I downloaded oxygen and bugless beast but both where odexed. And for PDroid I need a deodexed Rom. So any suggestions for a deodexed gingerbread Rom would be much appreciated

Seems my PDroid patcher was a bit off, not sure why but no matter what rom I gave it to patch it said it was not deodexed. After reinstalling a different version of PDroid all was good. So I made a successful patch of blandroid and the Pete Crespo rom. I'll have a look at them tomorrow.

I want to flash the new T989 stock ROM that just dropped. I can't find the 4.0.3 kernel, or can I use the 4.0.4 kernel.
yes... I did try search and reading. 4.0.3 Kernel, 4.0.3 STOCK kernel. Ect. Even http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1383464
you mean this kernel?

I meant the compiled 4.0.3 kernel for the skyrocket. Apologies I left out key information there with that one. Awful lot of ICS stuff and modded ROMs to sift through.
This is the best you'll get until someone compiles and modifies the t989 source.

Unfortunately modded, but alas I think you're right. I don't have a spare phone to flash 'n rip it out anymore. TY
I dug around trying to find it, but with the flood of ICS kernels was really looking bleak.
I was wanting to learn how to port a ROM and was wondering what phones are compatible with porting ROMs or if it mattered. I am using the step by step tutorial given in the android development forum.

I'm no dev so I can't speak for the ease of it, but the T989 is very similar and most ROMs are cross-compatible with just a rotation fix. Might be best to start there.
You can port some ROMs to some phones. You can port a aosp ROM pretty easily to about any phone but you couldn't port a sense ROM to our skyrocket because sense is complicated and requires a lot of work because its closed sourced. Same thing with our touchwiz ROMs, it won't like being ported to another phone. So if you wanna try to port something try an AOKP, paranoid android, or miui just make sure you ask permission from the original devs for the selected ROM before you post it.

Yes, and i've heard the international SGSII LTE i9210 has the same chipset as t989 so their roms should be easy to port. A guy in this forum flashed an i727 rom on his i9210 and it worked (except for softbuttons).
That said, do NOT flash any roms that aren't i727(r) or Hercules based. The international s2's kernel would brick our phone in a heartbeat. Here's a tip, the AT&T s3 has a very close chipset to ours, if you know how to edit dalvik bytecode...
