[Q] HTC Incredible upgrade to "Virtuous Incredible Revolution" possible brick
I am new to this android rooting stuff(and I probably should not have messed with it) but I rooted my incredible and installed the newest cyanogen mod. After I had it for a little bit, I wanted to get a new one and i found "virtuous incredible revolution" rom from Rom Manager and I downloaded it and it asked me if I wanted to back up Rom or clear everything, I chose to clear everything. Once it started to install the screen with the blue android creature it stayed there for a long time; I took the battery out(because this happened to me when i downloaded the cyanogenmod) and i tried to restart it and it still did the blue icon after the "HTC Incredible" white screen was on. I tried to do a factory reset and now it wont go past the HTC loading screen. What do I do?

You are soooooo welcome lol Hope this helps! Good luck and let me know how it went

is S-OFF reversible and will it affect anything
Yes it is and no, it doesn't. Only time you miiight run into trouble is if for some reason you take it to Verizon and are unlucky enough to get a SUPER tech savvy employee, they might know how to check if you're s-off, but both of those are highly unlikely scenarios since you know about XDA

Jakeiter92, I had a very similar issue with flashing this rom. My HTC splash screen kept flashing on my screen.
Try booting into recovery mode. With the phone off, hold down the volume down button and press power. Hold both buttons in until the phone powers on. Then use volume down to select recovery (use the power button to select). Then go to restore to restore from a nandroid backup. Then reboot the phone.
I hope this works!
I'm a complete n00b at rooting and hacking on Android and the HTC Inspire is the first Android phone I've ever had. I've searched the forum and tried loading PD98IMG.zip files, using the HBOOT recovery, but I'm still having a nasty problem with my Inspire 4G. I'd really like any help if I can get it - I think I've been sweating bullets for the last 2 hours...
Here's the rundown of what happened:
I rooted my Inspire 4G this morning using the Ace Hack Kit and everything was working fine until I tried CyanogenMod7. After that, I somehow managed to get it all working again, but didn't end up liking Cyanogen because various programs (such as Android Market) kept crashing. I switched to the TPC Inspire 4G ROM, and everything was peachy again. However, I wanted to try and get the completely stock version of the Inspire ROM, and loaded that onto the phone. I noticed that it was missing the ROMmanager, so I ran Ace Hack Kit again. This is where the huge problem happened. While reloading the older version of the ROM (I think it was doing the radio), everything went black on the phone screen, and stayed that way. The terminal screen (I'm running OS X) didn't show any progress, so I rebooted the phone. Now, the phone starts up with the white HTC screen, then fades to black and stays that way. You can tell the screen is on because the backlight is there, but otherwise, I'm stuck.
I'm currently trying to re-run the Ace Hack Kit, but the terminal says that the device is offline, then sits at < waiting for device >. I've tried re-flashing to the original HTC ROM from the website, but it doesn't detect that the device is even attached to the computer.
If you can help, that would be great! I've had this phone for 3 days, and I'm freaking out that I've just destroyed it.
Just an update - I tried a hard reset (power + vol up + vol down) and I get the green LED on, and the phone vibrates 3 times, then it sits there with the green LED indicator and nothing happening to the screen.
Do a search for un-brick. I dont have an Inspire, but on my Infuse there are a few different ways to return to stock and also to un brick. And once you get it fixed calm down on all the rom switching maybe? I mean u said 3 days and you were flippin through em then attempted a stock rom then another Ace Hack. My advice is slow down, take a deep breath and read the forums. Do this before you make moves. Good luck buddy.

Did you not backup, b4 you tried flashing another rom? If u did, just hold ur volume down button and hit ur power button... should go into bootloader (hboot). Once there select the recover option. If you havent backed up, I belive theres a recovery you can download. I just had that same problem while trying to get to hboot, was just a user error.... take ur time and dont worry, I dont belive ur fully bricked.

Your mistake was trying to root again once you saw rom manager was missing. Rom manager is an app you can download from the market. Not every dev includes it in their roms. Go back to the hack kit thread, look in the op, and join his irc. He will help you.

Unfortunately, I did not do a backup - I'll try and look for another recovery ROM. Did you have any trouble with the HBOOT not finding the PD98DIAG.zip file? It seems like HBOOT is not seeing the PD98IMG file either... I have the PD98IMG zip file in the root directory of my SD card too.
Thanks for the support - I'll need it...

Thanks - I talked with attn1, who wrote the hack kit, and he walked me through the process. Basically, I had to get the stock version of the PD98IMG.zip, which he provided.
Then, I followed the following steps (all typing is in terminal (I'm on Mac OS X):
1. Type: fastboot oem rebootRUU
2. The Inspire 4G went to a black screen with a chrome HTC logo.
3. Type: fastboot erase cache
4. Once that completes (the message says: erasing 'cache'... OKAY), type: fastboot flash zip PD98IMG.zip
5. That command flashes the Inspire 4G with the stock ROM. The phone will display the chrome HTC logo and a progress bar. Once it completes IN THE TERMINAL with the status OKAY, then type: fastboot reboot
6. Voila! HTC Inspire 4G is back to working condition. This method returned the phone back to stock mode, which means if you want to install custom ROMs and such again, you'll need to root it. Make sure to set the USB debugging on, and Connect to PC to Charging Only.
Thanks, attn1! Hope this will help others who get into this problem case.
Get the official ruu from htc. After that don't update and use simple root, this is better since if you brick it again you can go to fast boot and flash it back to inspire 4g rooted

I had the same exact problem the same exact way lol...Thanks i was starting to get worried
Go to th IRC forums an they can get you unjammed
sent from Inspire using can & string ver .2a
I had this same problem (goes black and vibrates 3 times- except with a orange blinking light) before.
To fix it:
1. Completely shut down, remove the battery, and put a timer on for 10 minutes
2. Remove your microSD card from your phone, and put it in a card adapter for your computer
3. Put a ROM installer .zip on your microSD.
4. After 10 minutes is up, put your microSD in your phone, and turn it on
5. Go into H-BOOT, and select boot to recovery
6. Install by selecting the .zip let it do its thing
Hope that helped!

it happened to a couple of my friends too, one solved it with an hard reset:
Hardware reset
1. Power off your phone (or take out the battery, if it is non-responsive)
2. Holding the [Volume -] key, press the power button once. Hold it until you see three skateboarding Androids at the bottom of the screen
3. Use the Volume buttons to navigate.
4. Select "Bootloader"
5. Select "Clear Storage"
6. Follow the on-screen instructions if you want to factory reset

Hello. I tried using the search button, but couldnt find anything. Sorry if I didnt look far enough into this before posting.
I have an Inspire 4g, and 2 days ago I rooted it, so that I may instal the sound mod. Im still running the stock rom. Well tonight, I tried to do a factory update, and now my phone is frozen. On the screen is a white triangle, with a yellow exclamation point in the middle and the droid robot below it. How do I fix this? Im trying to not freak out, as this is my first "smart phone".
Please help!
Thanks Chris
What do you exactly mean with "factory update". Do you mean OTA update or did you flash RUU?
Phone is just propably in recovery mode. If it has been there for long time, pull battery out and reinsert it and try to boot.

If I recall correctly when your rooted you are NOT suppose to OTA update from carrier. You suppose to wait for the rooted version from XDA Devs and flash it.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using xda premium
Yeah, you're never supposed to update OTA from AT&T if you're rooted. Unfortunately you learned this the hard way . I'm not 100% sure of the fix, but the go to move always is try to get into HBOOT. Do this by turning of the phone and then press the vol. down rocker button and the power button at the same time. If you can get into HBOOT then you'll be able to get into recovery to flash a new ROM or restore a back-up.

Chris, do as Bacon told you...try booting into hboot (Power + volume down) and check if you are still S-OFF (on the left corner you will see ACE PVT S-OFF or S-ON) if you are still S-OFF then you will have to try to flash a recovery image...
Chris,
I had the same issue when I first rooted. The process discussed above should fix it if you have a rom to flash on your sdcard, if you don't have a flashable rom, or can't access your sdcard through usb storage in your phone, pull your sdcard and put it into a reader to load a rom, then flash the rom using the instructions found in any number of threads about flashing custom roms. I am using IceColdSandwich v 4.2 and like it very much. Good luck.

First question, few people have experienced that too. Im not sure if they found out the solution for it yet
2nd, That's normal, it only means that you have the stock recovery, don't worry.

I also noticed the same behavior after I got the ICS FOTA upgrade the other day. Each time I reboot the phone, I see an "Android is upgrading..." screen. Though, I'm not 100% sure this is a bug, or even an issue. For all we know, this could be an ICS feature. Remember how long it usually took for the Sensation XE to reboot? I think that's what's happening underneath (i.e., Android is optimizing under the hood). It's just that before ICS, we only see the Beats Audio logo and we have no idea what's going on below.
Regarding your issue with recovery. With your phone completely switched off, hold down both the Volume Down and Power buttons. You'll arrive at the HBOOT screen. From there, select "RECOVERY". You'll arrive at the screen with a red exclamation mark. To continue to the recovery menu, press both the Volume Up and Power buttons simultaneously. Let me know if this worked for you because this is usually the manner I access recovery (both under Gingerbread, and now on ICS).
