[Q] Phone Froze on Factory Update - HTC Inspire 4G

Hello. I tried using the search button, but couldnt find anything. Sorry if I didnt look far enough into this before posting.
I have an Inspire 4g, and 2 days ago I rooted it, so that I may instal the sound mod. Im still running the stock rom. Well tonight, I tried to do a factory update, and now my phone is frozen. On the screen is a white triangle, with a yellow exclamation point in the middle and the droid robot below it. How do I fix this? Im trying to not freak out, as this is my first "smart phone".
Please help!
Thanks Chris

What do you exactly mean with "factory update". Do you mean OTA update or did you flash RUU?
Phone is just propably in recovery mode. If it has been there for long time, pull battery out and reinsert it and try to boot.

If I recall correctly when your rooted you are NOT suppose to OTA update from carrier. You suppose to wait for the rooted version from XDA Devs and flash it.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using xda premium

Yeah, you're never supposed to update OTA from AT&T if you're rooted. Unfortunately you learned this the hard way . I'm not 100% sure of the fix, but the go to move always is try to get into HBOOT. Do this by turning of the phone and then press the vol. down rocker button and the power button at the same time. If you can get into HBOOT then you'll be able to get into recovery to flash a new ROM or restore a back-up.

Chris, do as Bacon told you...try booting into hboot (Power + volume down) and check if you are still S-OFF (on the left corner you will see ACE PVT S-OFF or S-ON) if you are still S-OFF then you will have to try to flash a recovery image...

Chris,
I had the same issue when I first rooted. The process discussed above should fix it if you have a rom to flash on your sdcard, if you don't have a flashable rom, or can't access your sdcard through usb storage in your phone, pull your sdcard and put it into a reader to load a rom, then flash the rom using the instructions found in any number of threads about flashing custom roms. I am using IceColdSandwich v 4.2 and like it very much. Good luck.

[Q] Totally messed up my phone after attempting to get root.

I just tried to use this method on my Inspire today and there was an error when flashing back to the stock AT&T ROM after gaining S-OFF and root. When I try to start up the phone normally, it gets stuck on the HTC screen. When I try to boot into recovery, it just shows a black screen while the LED is green.
Anybody know what I can do to fix my phone?

Sorry your link doesn't seem to work.
If you press the down volume and hold power can you get to hboot?
Try using bubby's tool to fix the CWM black screen. Its under the fixes link.
I can't seem to access any sort of recovery or hboot. Holding down both volume buttons and turning the phone on will result in the black screen with green LED. Holding the down volume button and turning the phone on does nothing.

Sorry go to Bubbys super one step and search for CWM black screen....
If it helps, the phone vibrates 5 times then shows a black screen.
Well I was able to get into HBOOT but when I tried to go into recovery, the screen would just turn black.
You need to get the stock rooted PD98IMG.zip into the root of your sd card. Then go to hboot and let the phone find it. Follow on screen instructions. Note the progress bar will be vertical on upper right. I bet that fixes you up on getting the phone working. Black screen on cwm is a whole nother issue. One that I share. I think I'm going to revert to stock unrooted and then our attn1 hack kit.
There is a solution you can eng s-off, but I would not advise this there is no need to eng s-off your phone.
The simplest way though it may take longer is to, revert to stock and reroot and s-off with the hack kit.
This is a very common problem with the one click. To be honest there is a thread made just like this twice a day.
Thanks for all the help everyone. I managed to fix everything on my phone. I just flashed the rooted AT&T stock ROM with HBOOT and then used the one-click ENG S-OFF method to fix the black screen on CWM. Now running CM7 perfectly. I'm glad I no longer have to send it back to AT&T.
kinder gentler XDA i guess. Last year posts like these would have been flamed right off the board. Thats not a bad thing, but new people are wasting everyones F'ing time with these posts.
RTFM! w/e it is you decide to do , how about looking for help in the dam thread you downloaded the stuff from? I duno maybe we have a bunch of people brand new to Forums or something.
Ok I don't mean to thread jack, I just didn't want to start a new thread for this. I've been running the Coredroid Rom since I first rooted my phone. I have never had any problems with my phone even when trying out other roms. Today I tried installing the new Coredroid 5.0. It all went well as usual except this time on the last step of the setup wizard, it said something like "setup has stopped working unexpectedly and will notify HTC" and only let me press ok to force close.
After that happened all I couldn't even go to my home screen. I then tried restarting my phone but got stuck on the Coredroid rotating logo. Only way out of that was to pull the battery cover. Tried going into recovery mode but the screen would just be black and I would have the orange light flashing. That didn't work so I tried restarting again. Again just got stuck on the spinning logo.....This is where **** gets weird. I began to receive a call while on the logo and that allowed me to answer thus leaving the spinning logo. I still could not go to my home screen. I could only use the drop down notifications menu. I restarted my phone again so I could call myself while on the logo and again it got me unstuck from the logo. Only way to fix every thing was to use the search option and run Rom Manager and recover from my previous back up.
So I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else? I always fallow instructions and hardly ever have any problems but this was just odd. I felt like I had to solve riddles in order to get my phone working again.
See if you can boot to bootloader by means of ADB (adb reboot bootloader). If so reflash the stock rooted rom then reload CWM. You might need to Eng-S off if you have a corrupt file / bootloader? When done reflash CorDroid 5.0 (What I am running by the way)....
black htc screen
I tried to root my phone like an idiot because I dont know anything about this stuff and I got a black htc screen and i cant do anything. HELP!!
I see a lot of motivation in this and other threads to leave well-enough alone. Going to leave mine unrooted-stock.
I just had an excellent session of Google Nav where it performed exemplary. My phone does all I need and remains within the rules as the OEM wants it.

[Q] wifi xoom not updating to 3.1

I just picked up a used xoom that had 3.0.1 on it...
when I checked for updates, it found 3.1 HMJ37.... It downloaded and verified it. then I clicked on restart and install.
It proceeded to restart the Xoom, powered back on to the green android guy with the triangle inside.... then after a few minutes it restarts again...
but it still has 3.0.1 on it....
Ive done this 3 times so far.....
Any ideas what the issue could be?
thanx for your help
Danny
could it be failing the update because its not running stock 3.0.1?
how could I tell if its stock or has already been rooted (I know on phones you have a superuser app, but dont know to much about rooting tablets)

Im not sure how to tell... there doesnt appear to be any superuser on it...
any when I loaded setcpu, is was not able to gain access....
any other way to tell is its not completely stock?
So I decided to try a few more things..
I powered it on while holding the volume down key...
It got to the red cirlce with an M in it and says in the top left-
"starting fastboot protocol support"
I assume this means that I dont have a completely stock device???
unfortunately it is stuck there.... its not doing anything else....
any ideas?
-update
(apparently holding down the volume up key and pressing the power button got it to restart)
Can anyone explain what the fast boot is and how to go back to stock?
update 2-
holding the volume up and powering it on gives me this message
"starting RSD protocol support 3"
and then just hangs as well
thanx for your help
danny
One more thing I noticed, When it restarts to perform the upgrade, it shows the below message when the Green Droid comes on
'Entering System Recovery'
thanx again
do a reset on it so you know your working with a clean slate download something like adfree to see if it is rooted from previous owner if it is

[Q]Please Help: Recovery Not Working after installing ICS 4.0.3

I recently flashed ICS 4.0.3 on my Nexus S, and now when I enter Recovery it shows me the Android guy lying on his back with his chest open and having an exclamation mark on top and then the screens turns off.
I tried using a flashlight to read the screen and I tried re-flashing the 4.0.3 but to no success. I wanted to use ClocworkMod's ROM manager to boot but it says my phone is not rooted.
The phone was rooted when I had 2.3.6, but since I've updated I didn't root again.
I looked around the forum and I saw something about fastboot, but I'm a n00b when it comes to these things and I don't know how to use it..
Any idea on how to make it go into Recovery mode again? Thanks
While your phone is off; hold the power button and hold the volume up button, then you should be in recovery.

I've done that, I used a flashlight and tried to flash ICS all-over again, but nothing flashes...anything else?
Same problem
A friend of mine has the same problem unrooted stock 4.0.3 when he boots in to recovery black screen. Tried using a torch (flashlight) to see the screen but couldn't see anything on it.
A bit of research has found this section and just trying to find bright lamp to see if works as per a few of the posts on the link below
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1396615
and yes you can just see the text, we have used a bright lamp at different angles but not managed to do the 4.0.4 update yet...
Cheers
I've already used a flashlight and I could see part of the menu. I tried re-flashing the ICS update to 4.0.4 and the original 4.0.3 ROM, but still nothing. I couldn't tell what error it had or it said. I want to know how can I root again and try to install the ROM from ROM manager?

I remebered I saw this dead droid and seems like need to go into fastboot and download custom recovery again.
I think you should try to load in custome recovery. That is what happen to me and able to have a live droid.
When you see the android guy lying down with his chest open, just hold the power button and push the volume up button, then let it go and you should be in the bootloader menu. Then just use the volume buttons to move it down to recovery, then click install zip from sd card.

I can recommend AOSP+. It's very stable and fast (ROM benchmark 2nd place). It is very stockish, I LOVE IT. The developer is also involved in CodeName Android, a highly customizable ROM, they should update to 4.0.4 soon. If you like STOCK you should go with AOSP+, if you want more options for customization you can install CodeName in version 1.6 or wait for the Update on 4.0.4.
Also very good is Pete's Bugless Beast and Brainmaster's Stock 4.0.4
last night I got OTA for 4.0.4...dk how since I have root. I installed it and it runs sweet. thx for the help guys
how???
do u ve a phone bought in india...i have i9023 carrier airtel chennai india....i am still in 4.0.3 stock rom but manually updated....

You can just inter to bootloader, and reflash the recovery image with fastboot tools.

Solid amber light with no/long boot

I know this title comes up a lot but I can't seem to find my problem.
I wanted to go back to the stock rom and I used the proper RUU but totally forgot to use the S-ON tool before hand. It installed successfully but now I get a solid amber light and so far I got my inspire to boot once only to get stuck on the splash screen with it vibrating non-stop.
And now it just vibrated once, went to a black screen and then shut off. I really don't know what to do since I can't even get to HBOOT nor will the computer recognize it.
I've done numerous batter/sim card pulls as well as clean them out.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Have you tried booting into the bootloader and doing a factory reset?

I think he was referring to the bootloader as HBOOT. I had this problem while rooting my sisters Inspire. Might be a corrupted bootloader.

It seems that the RUU you flashed was a Froyo one and your phone was running GB so you messed the bootloader. Hit the Hack Kit IRC channel (is in the OP thread) and we will lend u a hand to fix that....
Alright so I went to the IRC and they told me they couldn't help because it did not deal with the hack kit, fair enough.
I have been able to get the phone to boot after waiting for about 10 minutes but I cannot get to the bootloader. I tried rooting the phone again this way I can turn s-on then flash the stock rom again but the phone ends up not being detected half way through the process.
I really don't know what else to do...
Forgot to mention, now my inspire boots but then fades to a greyed out screen. My computer recognizes the phone as something occupying the usb port but is not accessible. Wish the phone had a physical reset button somewhere that i can poke with a paperclip...

I will get back on the IRC this evening when I get home from work thanks again!!!
Does it say anything about QHUSB_DLOAD USB device being connected?
I ran into a similar problem not too long ago, immediate vibrating followed by a solid amber light and no phone activity (nothing on the screen at all). I knew I had a backup in Recovery, but I couldn't even get into recovery.
In order to work around this, I did the following steps.
1. Deleted the PD98IMG file from my SD card (so I could get to recovery once I made it to the bootloader).
2. Take out the battery, then put it back in.
3. Plug in the phone, and let it sit for a few minutes.
4. Start into bootloader (hold power + Volume Down)
Now, in my case I was just trying to get back into recovery. if you don't have a working recovery, or no ROM to flash, you'll want to grab a few RUU 's to try from the bootloader. Try stock GB first, then try a stock Froyo just for the heck of it.
Hope this helps! Good luck to anyone else that's stumbled into this problem.
side note: I've also heard of this "power problem" occurring to other people without bootloops or screwed up bootloaders: which is solved by doing steps 2 and 3, then it'll boot up normally.

im having same issue i have gb stock and i accidtly did froyo ruu phones power bottun does nothing i have to plug it into computer and it will get solid amber light then eventually it either brings up battery charge icon and then if i press power button or unplug it. it just shuts off the i plug it back in and wait sometimes white htc screen comes up and it vibrates for a while then boots ad works like nothing is wrong but i cant flash gb ruu when i try to do that or re root and go to recovery to reistall ics that is on my sd as soon as phone restarts during process it doesnt reboot then i have to go threw whole procss of trying to get it to boot back up

HTC One X Red Triangle of Death

Hi guys,
I recently did a software updated on my HTC One X. After a while, it rebooted and went to that screen with the green arrows. A little while after that, the red triangle with the exclamation point appeared. From then on I couldn't go in to my home screen. The phone is on but it's just a dark screen. Any ideas? A brick phone? If so, how? Software related issue? I was able to go to the recovery screen and did a factory reset and even that didn't do anything.
I don't have my phone rooted or whatsoever.
It's stock.
Do you guys have any suggestions? I am getting frustrated and about to just burn this crap.
Thank you so much.
don't know what could've caused that.
I assume you're bootloader is still locked since youre not rooted.
can you boot into hboot? (turn off the phone by holding power until the buttons at the bottoms stop flashing, then while holding the volume down button, turn on the phone)
Have you tried to run ruu either? they have several in the dev section just download the version you were on before you updated.
That's the stock recovery. Might be something wrong with the ROM. I'd get the RUU and run it. If you're talking about the latest AT&T 2.20 update, this is the RUU you want: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1814217
RUU it. It just screwed up the update and lost some system files so it booted into recovery. RUU will fix it (2.20 btw)

I agree with this assessment. Also, apparently RUU is now a verb.
Don't boo it, ruu it.
