[Q] Poor screen replacment (HTC Desire HD) - General Questions and Answers

Hi Guys hope you can help with a few technical issues
Just had my screen replaced (just the outer glass cost £60) and the guy said that they had to replace the sensor as well (the one at the top of the screen that controls the backlight for the home, menu… buttons).
Now the back light for the buttons does not work so I went back to the shop and they said that it wouldn’t due to the screen they used!!!!!!!
I tried to remain calm and said that that should have been explained before the work was carried out now he wants a further £90 to take a screen off another phone and put it on mine to make the sensor work…..
Does this mean he used a substandard screen and the sensor should work no matter what screen they used where do I stand legally?
thanks
Steve

Advice needed from people who've repaired TP screens

Ok so i walked into my desk at work last week and cracked the LCD - i had already puchased a new digitiser as my screen was getting pretty scratched up so i figured i'd simply buy a new LCD and take the phone and new parts round the corner to my local phone shop who were happy to replace my screen and return the next day.. great.
Fast foward and now i have a BIG problem. The new LCD doesnt seem to work once the phone has booted. SO, when you turn the phone on you get the usual windows boot screen with the rom info in red in the bottom corner (im using Monx's latese 6.5 rom). After that though it all goes Pete Tong, when then alignment wizard starts the screen goes nuts, flickering like an old TV and not displaying a steady image. The guys at the store say the phone is damaged from the knock to the screen however before I did a hard reset and removed my sim and SD card the parts of the LCD that were still able to display the today screen etc were showing everything correctly and flicker free and even allowed me full touch control with the stylus.
I basically need some advice from people who know a thing or two about replacing Touch Pro screens. Despite what the shop guys say i suspect that my screen is not compaitble with my Touch Pro which is originally a UK Vodafone but i now live in Canada and got the new LCD from the States. The person who sold me the LCD said it was compatible with all Touch Pros & Diamonds, but then he would say that wouldnt he!
My options are either buy another LCD and hope that does the trick or bite the bullet and get a new crappy canadian contract and a new handset. please help me ive tried the search and cant find anything that helps me and im desperate for a solution!
Cheers
Its a LCD issue what you got, my guess is that the person at the store either gave you a faulty one or its a duplicate lcd, also cleaning the LCD connector with alcohol would be a good idea. Its very rare that in the Diamond/Touch Pro category the connector to get damaged.

Replacement touch screen?

Hi all,
my tg01 has a large rainbow patch on the screen, and it is sometimes visable even when the back light is on,
i was wondering if replacing the screen would solve this problem?
and if this is the solution is this the right part i should order?

The part you have linked to is just the Digitiser (incidentaly not apparently identical to the TG01) - the resistive matrix pad which sits over the actual LCD and provides the 'touch' x-y grid information to the processor.
A rainbow patch suggests one of three things:
1. a point of pressure which is distorting the LCD screen under the digitiser
2. possibly a crack in the actual glass
3. inward distortion in the digitiser causing it to press against the LCD glass
I'd look closely first to see if you have anything eg. between the battery and the body which might be causing such pressure forwards; then check the digitiser to see if the surface appears bowed inwards and finally examine closely for any crack.
It may be that a new digitiser would solve; but if there is a crack in the LCD glass then I'm afraid only a replacement screen will solve.
Good luck !
Thanks for your help
i will look into it more
but i think its because of the screen being exposed to a point of pressure because lately i have been keeping it in my trouser pocket along side my ipod which i think has created the rainbow patch
I found something like this.

maybe it helps
alternative solution
If someone in Italy have broken his TG01 and want to sell, i'm online, my tg 01 need a new mainboard....
Thanks
Alessandro
why not try
Finally, you buy it?
stay away!
I think we can try

I will ask a very stupid question... can I put some other device touch screen or like to put REGZA the tg03 capacitive screen? u dont need drivers for that just that screen fits?

Most unlikely that it would be practicable to transplant a capacitive screen. The resistive digitiser on the TG01 screen has a dedicated ribbon cable interfacing to the main board providing X-Y information; even if the capacitive substitute had a similar connector, the hardware on the main board will not be able to interpret the signal. And I am sure that there will be different drivers for the capacitive screen, even though performing the same function.
I would have to ask though why the desire to go capacitive ? The resistive screen (properly calibrated) gives virtualy the same responsiveness with the massive added bonus of being able to use a proper stylus when wanted, in particular for real handwriting recognition, which is impossible on a capacitive device.
just asking, I had and capacitive that was really bad so as resistive and I had the good capacitive and probably the best resistive screen here on tg01

[Q] Touch unresponsive at #456 on phone

Picked up this phone from CL. The person was claiming that part of the screen is not responding to touch.
I have seen it when I picked it up, but I thought that I will deal with it when I get home.
I was keep playing with the phone almost everything it's working on it except the volume buttons and that horizontal line where the #456 is on the dial pad.
I have removed the battery and noticed that the white sticker it was pink, water damage.
Now I don't know what could be the damage here? There is a shadow across the screen also, but it's not a crack.
I have seen this before on a digital camera, it was the aluminum sheet metal under the LCD, had a smudge across on that aluminum finish too.
Couldn't remove it though. Replaced the screen on the camera and it was as new.
Not sure what could be the problem with the phone?
Should I replace the digitizer, since the LCD shows everything correctly? It could be something shorted internally? I have the phone apart, but I don't see anything wrong. Cleaned all the contact with electronic cleaner, no change.
Any help would be appreciated.
Please post all questions in the Q & A section. Thanks! Thread moved.

I think I would replace the LCD and digitizer as a unit. The slightly higher cost would be easier to accept than having to do it more than once, which would probably end up costing more. Either way is a gamble, though, because that might not be the issue.
Volume buttons are notorious on this phone. I have not known or read about someone fixing them. You can get around the problem for the most part by using software to control the volume, using roms that will restart to recovery or boot loader, and the occasional use of ADB commands, but some bootloop situations require the hardware to work.
Good luck with your project and let us know how it works out.
Not just a pretty Pickle.
I'm thinking of buying the whole LCD as a unit, but that is why I'm asking that maybe somebody could tell me if it's the LCD or other hardware.
The volume button it's together with the upper camera board and I guess it has to be replaced together.

[Q] replaced screen not responding to touch

Hi,
My aunt dropped her one s which shattered the screen completely.
I ordered a replacement screen and followed a video guide on how to replace it
(i've replaced screens on other phones before so I thought I could manage )
The screen turns on, but it does not respond to touch... Any ideas on what I should check or what I might have done wrong?
It would be great to be able to give her the phone back as a christmas present so any help would be very much appreciated!
Thanks and happy holidays!
Sorry for the late response, so I don't know if this still pertinent to you, but did you replace just the screen or the whole screen + digitizer? If only the screen, the digitizer might be broken making the touchscreen not work hope this helped
No problem
I changed both:

Do you like to crack LG Tribute hd (LS676) hardware issues?
=======================================
Thanks for looking into my thread. I did review some threads that shows valuable insights from this forum. I like to present the issue , I have. This issue need related to hardware issue of the Smart phone.
I opened a thread in android that describe the issues in details:
I did talked with LG support and learned that keeping the phone in Jeans pocket or applying pressure to the phone cause the issues I have. The screen bent can also cause same issues.
I did google search and found a piece that suggest the screen protector/phone cover cause extra pressure. This phone was dropped awhile ago and has crack bottom right area. It did not cause any issue that time. I am not sure, what are the components in this area.
I did remove the screen protector and apply pressure bottom right area while powering on. The screen is coming with dial pad and going back to wide white vertical lines.
Repairing thru LG repair cost much more than phone price.
If this not a right forum for this issue, let me know the right forum to open this thread.
what are the components in bottom right area?
How do I fix these issues?
Thanks for guidance/help.
No need to open 2 threads for the same issues. :good:
