Hi everyone. Having previously owned a gt540 and a p500, I've just become the proud owner of an Optimus 3D. Thing is I didn't mind messing with a budget phone and had great custom roms on both but I'm nervous about tinkering with this one. It's on stock 2.3.5 v20a. I can't even get the thing rooted at this stage so I'm looking for opinions on where I go from here (roms, kernels, etc). Thanks
Hi DELDROID, and welcome!
First things first: Rooting.
I'm running a dutch LGO3D, came with 2.2.2 and I guess v10b (dunno where to get that from).
I did root it by using SuperOneClick, mount SD card, USB debug on, done in two minutes. I did use v2.2.2 of superoneclick, it isn't (and wasn't at that time) the newest version, but that newer version didn't work for me.
As for ROMS etc, I'm in the same corner as you, I don't have any idea. Finding out myself. In this subforum, just started my own topic concerning this.
Good luck with rooting, let me know if it did or didn't work!

Take the plunge, flash V21a, (which can be rooted) see here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1287236
I'm a noobie and managed the above ok, with help from the forum, after flashing root and install CWM.
Thanks for the replies. I really miss having a rooted phone so I'm going to give V21a a try.
why not go for v21b?
can be rooted too and acurateam has already a rom running on v21b

Okay, so I have the LG Optimus T and I have it soft rooted with z4root. The problem is this: There are no custom ROM's for the LG Optimus T. I can't overclock my CPU (which is a major draw to rooting) with the kernel I have installed. Can someone please help me? I am very new to this, and I'm open to criticism, but I'd appreciate it if you'd answer with helpful criticism. Talk to me as if I'm a beginner, not an idiot. Thanks in advance, guys.
I also rooted my optimus t recently woohooo!
Anyone? Is there a mod for it?:d
Well here is a useful link to JoeMomRom which he striped down.
h t t p://forum.androidcentral.com/lg-optimus-t/52395-rom-joemomrom-v1-only-optimus-t-5.h t m l
The rom is called bareoptimus. I was having trouble with link so if its broke let me know and I will try to find another.
Once you root you are going to want to flash custom recovery too, just incase anything at anytime go's wrong. Hope this helps!!!!
here is a link to a custom ROM i love it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=920787
I wouldnt of used Z4root, from what I read it wasnt really meant for 2.2, I used Gingerbreak 1.20 and everything is fine...Im currently using devoid froyo final with superblue v5 theme and it's running smoothly, I tried using the darktheme but it didnt work for me, I started years ago with rooting and my very first android phone was the tmobile g1, that's back when there werent programs for rooting you had to learn how to root using TE or ADB, im still in the process of learning everything I can myself and would love to learn how to cook my own roms
Help need with rooting Optimus T
I having a hard time rooting my optimus T. Can someone give me a step by step tutorial or a video. Thank you
Hi,
Is there any person or developer who can port CyanogenMod Rom on our Defy?
Or do you guys have any idea regarding this? How can we attract the attention to any developers towards our Defy?
http://www.cyanogenmod.com/screenshots
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/
CyanogenMod Rom works on Droid. So That should work on our Defy as well.
Looking forward to hear your ideas guys......
We need a recovery first
How can we get that recovery?
Wait for it to be sorted - it will come, just got to be patient
What does it really mean that we need recovery and why? Please explain in a way that a noob can get it.or diect me to a place to read thanks!
Bcs recovery is needed to get the modded ROM onto the DEFY!
You need to replace/modify allot of things and this is not as easy as getting a non market app onto your mobile
And i guess there are much more people looking for a 2.2 or perhaps 2.3 then waitin for a CyanogenMod Rom!?

The modded recovery is out... Please Cyanogen make a miracle...!
my main phone is a G2, and have yet to run a CM rom, I'm, more then happy with what we have so far for the Defy, and thanks everyone efforts, if someone ports an OEm Sense Rom over this way well that's another story lol
You know what I am with the guy above. Im loving what I got so far. And in the new year I will probably do my own custom rom. I am not in any rush to get 2.2 at the moment, and im getting an android tablet today so hack time is being diverted to that

Google, you need to be prepare to read - alot.
Everything I have learnt is from googling - all the various android forums.
Hi, i asked google a lot, but can´t find a realy gooo anser what excatly todo.
I can compile my own rom from source, but what is with driver?Firmware?
How i implement this?
Is the bootloader locked the same way as it is on milestone, droid x and droid 2? Or is it hack friendly and we can load any custom kernel?
I missed this thread before.
I would love to see CM's rom on the Defy. In fact I would have no problem donating to the individual who makes it happen
no way!
No one wants to hack the defy!
Would easy i guess for a realy hacker.
But no one do it.
All want to give motorola devices back or won´t buy it.
Poor.

And ofcourse, if you find yourself in any situation where your phone might get wet or dropped, there's no point in comparing them.
Until froyo(kernel) is released by motorola, we can "only" have a CM5 port for the defy.
It would be great trying froyo kernel without any modules and having them replaced by DEFY ones... Doing that we would know if motorola uses the same key for all the androids
Ok im interested in attempting to create my own rom. Im very good with computers, and ive already installed cm7 on my lg optimus v soo im very knowledgable when it comes to this stuff. But i was wondering if any would be able to help me out. I want to be able to take the stock Virgin Mobile rom that comes installed on the optimus and how i would go about stripping it down and rebuilding and customizing it to make my very own custom rom. If you could help me i would greatly appreciate it, any type of advice will help. Thank you

You haven't done much reading or searching yet huh...
Are you looking to unroot and go back to stock unrooted?
Or are you wanting to stay rooted and flash a sense rom?
Either way SEARCH the inspire development section and you can find your options.
Searching and reading is the xda way.

Did you root this yourself or buy it this way? Sounds like you don't know much about it yet...no offense.
Those numbers you list are the radio you have. As far as rom no one can tell you the best. Its up to you. Everyone has their own preference. Try them out. But please....please read some more in these threads before doing so.

ok guys.. this is what I need Android 2.3.3 (Gingerbread) ROM version: 2.47.502.7 rooted or nor. I just need the stock rom
The Inspire stock roms were moved out of the developement section and are buried somewheres here in the general section. I think there was a plan to sticky them, but it never happened. Do a search of this general section.

Here is the rooted updated ATT Gingerbread ROM. Just place PD98 in root of SD card then go into bootloader and let it do its thing. When it ask to install volume up for yes. AGAIN AS ADVICED ABOVE " RESEARCH" before anything. Back up apps before you intall it will wipe phone and bring it to like if it were out of the box but rooted.

Hello all!
This is my first post here and I thank all for comments in advance - they are very appreciated!
So I was very new to the aspect of rooting when I first got my Sprint GS3, but I read posts here and watched many tutorials on youtube and successfully rooted my device using Odin, then using Goomanager flashed CM 10.1 without a hitch. I had a custom kernel as well ( do not remember the name ), so when I updated my ROM I went hunting for new kernels as well. On an XDA (forgot the name/link) thread I found kernels compatible for CM 10.1, but when I flashed it my phone got bricked. No drivers found, won't boot into recovery or download, taking out and replacing battery wont work - not even an LED light. I said that I lost it and received a new one, but I was wondering why it got bricked (I have a bad gut feeling I did something as dumb as getting an international version kernel as I heard they would not be compatible?) And if there are links for a kernel for a stock firmware rooted GS3 - I have not seen one and I am nervous on finding more seeing as how I already bricked one phone. Thanks for the help!!! I just want to be more educated on this so I do not have to spend another 150$ in replacements. Thanks!

Just stick with the kernel provided in the rom you are using. The developer picked or made that kernel for a reason.

The reason that I wanted another kernel is since Cyanogemods stock one does not let me OC/UV and those are options that I would like to have

Only flash kernels that are in your device threads. Next time leave out what you did to get it replaced as that is fraud and not looked at well here.
