[Q] Phone reboots when trying to Power off - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Flashed this kernel :[Kernel]Skyrocket[2.6.35.14](v0.0.8)OC~1.73GHz/GPU OC/OTG/UV/SLQB/BLN[Jan-08]
Its a great kernel and thanks so much to whoever delvelpoed it but i am having a problem when trying to shutoff the phone. When i press the Power button and slect to Power off. The phone goes black, vibrates, and then restarts. Is there a fix for this? Anything would help because this is a great kernel. Thanks.

I m guessing this is faux123's kernel and if it is what version are you running.

Running kernel version: 2.6.35.14 on Android : 2.3.5
I'm really only looking for a kernel that let's me use bln control on the skyrocket, is there a better kernel that you know of?

Yes use romracer's kernel its good stock with bln and boothanimation.

I just flashed romracer's kernel, and it seems to be very stable but i am still having the reboot problem. When i press the power button and hit power off the phone looks as if its shutting down, goes black, vibrates and restarts. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

What rom r u using?

You need to unplug the power cord before selecting "power off", is a work around fix for the CM7 w/Da_G's kernel, and I bet it works for your trouble as well.

To add my experience:
My SGS2 runs Android 2.3.4, kernel 2.6.35.7, GINGERBREAD XWKI4). I've had it for just under a year and it has always run the stock Samsung ROM. My phone's not rooted. I've never had any trouble of the kind I'm about to discuss so far.
Today my phone has begun to restart when I power if off. Googled around, saw some people had such problems because of SD card problems. I unmounted the card, removed it, put the battery back in (yes the phone boot up on its own when I inserted the battery). Same problem with no SD in.
I then saw a thread that some people had the phone on the charger when trying to power off (or the phone showed being on the charger when it wasn't - thunder on battery level); my phone shows no thunder and it's not on the charger.
My 8-year old son has taken the phone for a spin today (which means he fires off about a dozen apps aftes he tires of taking pictures and Cutting the Rope).
Any thoughts about how I might go about diagnosing this? Besides rooting my phone, taking a Titaium backup and hard resetting?
Thanks
Nikolas

In the future Nickolas please refrain from resurrecting an old thread and post a new one. Also u are in the wrong section, u want the original Samsung Galaxy S2, not the skyrocket (this forum), or the T-Mobile T989, but the i9100

Yes, I realize I posted in the wrong place; I'll post it on the i9100 forum. Thanks for the heads up.

[Q] battery issue

my phone radomly freezes and wont turn on until i hold the power button for 5 seconds should i odin i have refalshed roms and tried diffrent roms any help thanks in advance
When your phone freezes the only way out of a frozen screen is the power button, cwm, or taking out your battery method... this thread is alled "battery issues" so I'm assuming to fix the probem you have to get a new battery.. but from the information you posted id advise you to try a new rom or odin bck to stock and see if the problem consist.. if it does not consist something went wrong with rom installing, if it does buy a new battery

[Q] Bricked or maybe Soft brick (bootloops help) sorry its a lengthy explanation

So i tried to flash a different kernel on my Samsung Infuse 4G running the latest CM7 build. I used SGS Kernel flasher to flash it, and it said the kernel was flashed successfully and it went into reboot, i tried to let the phone sit for a while but all that kept happening was the samsung logo would pop up and off, repeatedly like it would sit on the logo for a few seconds then jus turn off and repeat so is there any way to fix this? because so far i have not even been able to enter recovery mode by normal means, i have not been able to enter download mode, i dont know if its my timing or the cable im using (an iGO Green usb cable btw) but i can not get it into either mode... also i am just recently finding out that the kernel i tried wasnt even for INFUSE (i was misguided by when it said CM7. but i got it from here [DER KERNEL] [gpl] NS+4G Trinity (E)UV and OC 2.6.35.14 CM7 + m(any) roms (idont know how to do links sorry, but it is on XDA though, thank you to anyone who can try to help.

LOL same thing happened to me, except i was flashing a tw4 file that was meant for a GS2 (idiotic). Try holding the up volume button and power until the screen goes off, or pull the battery. Then hold both volume rockers and power until samsung screen comes. Hold it like one second after, should work. Then probably restoring from in cwm is best bet, there are no kernels that are made for infuse on cm7. Sorry, if you recently made a backup then restore the phone then do that. Make backups often, incase stupid decisions like this happens lol. If you can not even get into cwm, then this is your friend. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116251
EDIT: O wait, if cwm does work, then contact linux bozo over on compiled cm7, he may be able to provide you with a cwm flashable kernel.
Ok...you cannot flash any kernel...(infusion,entropy...ect...ect) with cm7 or miui ...the have their own kernel compatible with that build...and if u look in cyanogenmod settings in settings/cyanigenmod settings/performance....it has its own governor and can be overclocked or underclocked from there...really don't need another kernel with cm7...

Loaded this up last night.....not one issue to report. I happen to like touch wiz (as well as everything else) I hope you keep this ROM going in a stock like direction. Maybe if your plan is to change launchers etc you could branch off. Anyway....well done I love my phone!
sorry but have to ask. how did you get cwm on phone? I cant get download screen. figured it was the 2.3.6 UVLB7 build causing it. just got phone 5 days ago. had G2x piece before.
Can you give me more details in regards to your question? Have you lost the ability to get into recovery? I had the G2X as well....CWM is flashed pretty much the same way as the LG (except without the NVIDIA tool)
Things are not far enough along to have a reboot option in the ROMS yet, try power tool or something like it, works fine for me.

I wanted to amend this after ongoing usage and say things are still running solid. I did notice a lower quality audio performance as compared to dknight. Not a major concern this early in the game by any means.
The audio capabilities on Android was and is the big reason I am here and not on I-tunes so i'm particularly sensitive to that area. I run completely uncompressed FLAC's (1411 kb bit rate) and have a 64gb SD card on my phone loaded to the hilt.
My work phone is a GNEX (with Black Ice and Axiom Morphr) streaming through Google Play so I have back up ...lol

You must install ClockworkMod Recovery before flashing a ROM. I'm currently using this ROM. I can still access ClockworkMod Recovery by holding volume up, volume down, and power button at the same time, then release after Samsung logo disappears. Don't flash ClockworkMod Recovery in ROM Manager. See the thread below to know how to flash it.

I have done all this to my G2x piece of crap so it not new to me. On my new phone the Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G SGH-T769. if I hold down the 3 buttons, vol up/dn and pwr, remove battery all that stuff I DO NOT get the "WaRNING" or download screen. It will only give me recovery screen after the Galaxy splash screen. I have tried every method available. I have tried every unlock I can find, oneclick and unlock and even Odin but it needs the download screen. It will not see phone till it totally boots. Was hoping you had something to install thru recovery screen to get to download screen. Have not tried ADB yet but have not read everything on how it works or what to do. Really have not found much info on ADB way to unlock.
So since everyone here is a lot more advanced than I am figured I would ask. Seems only a handfull of Blaze devices will not go into download mode.
1. Turn phone off and plug to pc
2.proceed to hold both volume and power button simultaneosly. Keep holding down until phone vibrates then let go of power button and continue holding volume buttons.
3. Let go of buttons as soon as u get to the next screen then press vol up to proceed to download mode.voila
P.s. I have the same baseband.
That should work for you, works for me all the time
If i helped in anyway hit the thank button
i just P.M you with a video on how to do it

can there be a script or something written to do update from recover screen to make it boot to download mode? something..... or am I just stuck with jtag or adapter or whatever you call it.
What will adb do for me? can I root from it? will it help? I have not found instruct on what to do once in adb. found instruct on how to get to work but didnt see anything more. then again I did not fully look into it.:cyclops:

Please follow these instructions and try again:
+ Download and install USB Driver for T-Mobile SGH-t769 Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G on your PC http://org.downloadcenter.samsung.com/downloadfile/ContentsFile.aspx?CDSite=US&CttFileID=5002142&CDCttType=SW&ModelType=null&ModelName=null&VPath=SW/201204/20120424041113815/T-Mobile_T769_Blaze_4G_USB_Drivers.exe
+ Download Odin 1.85 http://k0nane.info/rom/odin-185.zip
+ Download PIT http://shabbypenguin.com/k0/blaze.pit
+ Download Clockworkmod recovery TAR http://www.shabbypenguin.com/OUDstuff/Blaze4G/Clockworkmod-Blaze-4G.tar
+ Extract Odin-185.zip
+ Run Odin 1.85.exe and make sure that you check "auto-reboot", and uncheck all other options.
+ Click PDA and select the TAR you downloaded. Click PIT and select the PIT your downloaded. Uncheck repartition.
+ Connect your device to your PC
+ Remove the battery while holding down volume up and volume down buttons
+ Reinsert the battery and press volume up, volume down, and power button at the same time until your device has entered download mode.
Good luck
Sorry. Have tried and tried. Total time trying this exact method and others over the past 2 days about 4 hours. Will not go into download mode. Have all of the above installed and ready to go on the computer. Can get odin to connect if phone is totally booted up in working mode but that does nothing for odin. Same with superoneclick and unlock root. The last two are not configed for 2.3.6 on blaze 4g or something so they will not complete the root/unlock.
If I remove battery with usb plugged in it will vib about every 3 seconds. Once battery is put in it stops vibing but once you hold button it will vib one more time then "samsung" comes across screen goes away then blaze spash on screen and it continues to boot. Never see "warning" screen or download screen.
I have no issues getting into phone from pc or phone connecting to pc. Just no download mode.
As I said i did not want to take over your thread with this and I feel I have taken up to much of our time as it is. Thank you for your help. Hope someone has solution soon. Thanks again.

Just tryin to cover all the bases here, but you should be holding both the volumes and the power button when you put the battery back in. Then be ready to release all to quick vol up when the dl screen shows up. You should also be connected via usb.
Hope this helps.

Help unbrick....

So i was running cm10 and i wanted to install a kernel. I when to install and kernel via rom manager.. When i tried to install in the screen went black and i havent been able to get the phone to turn on since,,,, i noticed when i try to put the phone into dload mode nothing happens... When i plug the phone into the wall charger the led light turns on as if it was charging but i dont have the battery in.. If i put the battery in and i push the volume down home and power nothing happens...can someone please help??? Please!!!!!!!!! I think the kernel was something like k74 something like that...
If you arent able to get into download mode, or even get a vibrate out of the phone, then sadly it may be hard bricked. I don't understand how flashing a kernel could hard brick the phone, though. At any rate, worst case scenario is you will have to send the unit in for a JTAG repair if you are unable to get it to boot in any way.

i have never heard of jtag... can you give me more info just in case
JTAG is the only way to recover from a hard brick. It is a service that is performed by only one (or maybe a few) companies in the world for the S3 (and many many other devices). Heres a link to the service, which starts at $60, and a link to the video of the S3 being unbricked.

Try leaving the device plugged into the charger for a hour or so then try to get into odin mode...if still nothing then it sounds like you flashed a kernel that was for the international s3.

Did you install the 10/14 nightly? I noticed that when I installed the 10/14 nightly and then installed leankernel over that my phone would no longer boot. A simple flash back to M2 and leankernel fixed the issue. 10/14 had a lot of kernel updates so I think that's the problem.
VolUp+Home+Power to boot back into recovery I believe.
Do all of your flashing manually in the future. ROM Manager = no.

Random Shutdowns - Any input?

Hi all,
Recently my Nexus 5 (with original battery) began shutting down randomly. When it does this, it shuts down and boots back up to the google logo, but does not go as far as the boot animation. If I then turn it off manually with the power button, and turn it back on, it'll boot up normally. My attempts at a fix/diagnosis were as follows:
1.) Switched from PureNexus rom to a stock rom - same issue
2.) Switched from blu_spark kernel to ElementalX kernel - same issue, and no last_kmsg to look at after the shutdown in any case
3.) Was on F2FS, so formatted back to ext4, fastboot flashed stock image from May update, formatted back to F2FS using TWRP, installed PureNexus & ElementalX - same issue (today)
My thoughts now are that it could be related to F2FS, although I've never had issues with this in the past, or it could be a bad battery, although my battery discharges like normal with none of the other side-effects I've seen from others posting about a bad battery.
Any input on next steps or ideas to diagnosis the issue?
Thanks!
It's about power button , not the software.

This problem is all about the power button which did not build sturdy by LG.(It rattles when you shake)Problem came because of rattles.I have fixed this on my N5 with this method.Give a try.
