Very simple question worthy of the newest n00b... - General Questions and Answers

Hi guys
Does anyone know how to set and unset push notifications for particular apps on Android 2.3 (Samsung Galaxy Sii)? I don't want facebook pushing to this particular phone as I use it primarily on another; I just want the app there in case...
Sorry for wasting your time with this!

I am using the Facebook app on a samsung infuse.
If I open the app, hit the menu button I have an option for settings.
In settings there are settings to turn notification on/off and set the refresh interval.
Hope this helps?

Thats indeed the only way, if you don't want to delete the app

Thanks guys!

[Q] Multiple Keyboard preferences

I don't know if this thread belongs here, as I am a newbie and could be in the wrong place, but I'm going to start it here and please move it to the appropriate place if this is not correct.
I have an htc evo4g and use shapewriter as my keyboard for email and text. When browsing the web I'd rather use the built in sense keyboard. Is there any way to have it automatically use the stock keyboard for the browser but the shapewriter keyboard for everything else?
This is the type of thing you can do with Tasker. Check it out, it is an awesome app.
How would you run that through tasker I have been trying to do that but am at a loss

Tasker only allows you to show the input method menu, it cannot chose it for you.
But to do it I'd do something like...
New -> Application -> Browser
+ button -> Dialog -> InputMethod Settings
Tap right box of new profile -> Add Exit Task
+ button -> Dialog -> InputMethod Settings
With this it will ask you what you desired input method is when you open the browser (chose stock) and when you close it (chose shapewriter). It is less than ideal, but it'll get the job done.
There is an app on here (xda) that is similar to what you want. That app will auto select your desired input based on your phone being portrait or landscape.

I've been looking for an app to do that, searched a few times but no luck - any chance you can point me to the app? I've got a Captivate and would like to use SWYPE for portrait and the Samsung or stock Android for landscape.
Thanks in advance.

Its not perfect, but it works well enough. Hopefully someone will continue to develop it.

[Q] Android: How do you find your last installed apps?

Hi,
Every time i am installing a new app im searching for it in the "all apps" screen.
This screen holds a very long list of apps, sorted alphabeticly.
I was wondering if there is a way to see the apps sorter otherwise (by last installed for example).
The reason is because i want to add those apps to the main screen, and currently it is very uncomfortable.
Thanks!
Couple of ways, hit the app drawer button, then long press the app and drag it onto the home screen you want it on.
Long press on the home screen you want it on then select shortcut then applications then select the app. If you are adding a widget change procedure accordingly.
Hi, Thanks for the answer, but i didnt mean how do i add app to the desktop
i asked - is there a fast and comfrotble way to find last installed apps.
The only way i came to is by clicking search button when im in apps drawer.
Is there a way to sort the apps drawer? maybe an app that does it?

Question about widgets - task manager and stocks tracking?

is there any honeycomb friendly task manager or stock tracking Widgets?
I like to put them on the home screen but the ones I found are quite small for use on tablets.
I have never used a stock widget. As for the task manager, you don't need one. Android manages task on its own. If you happen to get a stuck app, go to settings, apps, manage apps, then find the app and stop it.

I know that's the argument about android task manage in a perfect world.
However, in actual usage I get STUCKED apps all the time. For example, if I don't disconnect from team viewer before jumping to another it gets stuck... This make it very cumbersome to go to settings app all the time.
I really need something on the home screen to kill these sticker apps.

Use Active Apps. It doesn't manage or autokill, just a widget that gives you a list of running apps and lets you close one or all with a single button. Very easy.
As for a stock ticker widget....I would love to find one too. Can't imagine there isn't one out there somewhere.

Multitasking

Is there a multitasking app or program i can use with the infuse,I dont like using taskmanager!
Are you just trying to switch between recently used apps? Hold down your home key and your last couple of apps opened will pop up.
You can also use Advanced Task Killer (but don't kill tasks, unless an app is misbehaving) -
Make sure you peruse the settings so that autokill is OFF and security is HIGH (to avoid showing system processes). Also, it'd really help to configure the tap action to "select/unselect" so that you don't accidentally kill anything.
I wanted something more like the iphone multiflow

I think Visual Task Switcher is as close as you'll get.
There's also QuickDesk, Tasking, and Swipepad.

Annoying Default App Fixed!!

I found it so annoying when my phone would automatically set a default app when sharing something or opening a link. Previous phones and Android versions allowed me to choose "Just Once" or "Always" by my Samsung Galaxy S7 on Marshmallow didn't.
Well, they snuck the option back in there, don't know for how long.
Settings - Applications - Default applications - Default app selection - Ask before setting default apps
Thank you Samsung!... but it shouldn't have been an issue in the first place

It's a good feature considering the majority Android users who don't really care.
