I have a Sprint Evo Shift running CM 7.1.0. Occasionally, the 3G data connection stops working. It hasn't happened yet while I'm using it, but sometimes after I turn the screen on, I get no data. Calling still works, but no internet. When this happens, sometimes I can turn on WIMAX and get a connection and sometimes even that won't turn on. The only way to fix this is to reboot the phone, which is quite annoying, especially when I want to look something up quickly. Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks,
-Vinay
Do a Nand backup and then Flash a Sense Rom. After you Flash the Sense Rom, update PRL / Profile. Then Nand back.
Thanks! I'll try that, see how it goes. I was hoping to not have to backup/flash/restore, but I'll give it a try.

I just installed a new rom, now I cannot get the phone to keep a data connection. Can someone tell me how to reset this so that I can get data?
First off, did you get a ROM for your carrier? Sprint provisioned ROM's won't work on VZW and vice versa...
Next, did you manually turn on the data connection after reboot? Sometimes when I turn on my TP2 it takes a minute to show the data connection on indicator in the comm manager - so, when I 'turn it on' its actually turning it off.
Lastly, a bit more info about the ROM you are running will help people diagnose the issue much more quickly - so if you can share which one you are using, someone might be able to help faster.
Yeah, that was a noob post...sorry. I flashed Nag Rom 23518 v1.03 for my TP2. Thanx for the advice, as I did get the problem solved. As I said..I am a noob to this.
Not sure if it's a computer, ROM, Phone, or app issue, but after a few minutes or so of being connected via wifi tether, it just stops working. According to the phone, I'm still connected, but the upload/download numbers reset to zero and pages stop loading in my laptop browser. The only fix I have is to disable wifi tether and re-enable it.
Any idea what would be causing this? I'm on Fresh 2.0d and have whatever version of wifi tether came on the ROM.

It's actually shutting off your data connection. If you take a look your data becomes dormant. If you turn of data and then turn it back it works again. I think it may be with the version. I just saw I had 2.0 and I'm going to put 1.6 back on. I'll let you know if it fixes the problem.
Here is the link for 1.6
http://android-wifi-tether.googlecode.com/files/wireless_tether_1_60_htc.apk
If you put on your sdcard and install using a file explorer it will change the script that is used and work.
Actually, I just checked, and I'm already running 1.6. Any other suggestions? Haha
are you getting a or making a telephone call when it conks out?

When ever your data goes to 0 is Ev in status bar white or gray? Might try doing adb logcat when you start up wifi tether or when you have the problem. I don't know what is causing the problem, but whever I turn off mobile networks and turn it back on it works fine after that.
I'm doing a logcat and using my wifi tether right now to see if I still have the problem.
Might try removing the one off your phone and push the one from the link above.

I was having the exact same problem. Read the 2nd post..No. No calls or messages or anything when it happened to me.
I am on the CM10 nightlies right now and was using CM9 and still had this issue. I don't use data all the time so I turn it on/off whenever I need to download a picture or there is no WiFi where I am at. The thing that has happened to me a couple of times is that when I turn on my data, the 4g pops up next to the bars but they stay grey even if I try to use something that requires an internet connection. I usually reboot the phone so it can start working again and I get blue bars again after the reboot. It only happens when I turn off the data after it's been connected I guess. Does anyone else have or have had this issue and know if there is a way to fix this?
Ok here is the problem... I rooted the phone, played with some settings, explored the android platform in general. Somehow, my data has stopped working. I can make calls and send texts no problem, when I try to access internet or google play store, it fells me that I have no data connection available or something of the sort. I have tried flashing different roms, played around with switching between Global and Lte/cdma radio bands. When I switch bands, I get either 4g or 3g, but within half hour it stops working again. After a restart, same thing happens, it worka and then atops. I figure there is something messed up with the modem. Please advise.
Also, anyone else experiencing sudden restarts with CleanRom 5.0? My phone reboots every once in a while for no apparent reason.

Have you tried flashing a different modem?
Worst come to worse, ODIN back to 100% stock and start over.

No clue how to flash a modem
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/34053-of...zon-sgs3-sch-i535-odin-or-recovery-flashable/
Pick the latest from the right column and flash in recovery as you would a ROM.

Looked into it a bit more.... my 4g or 3g works after a restart as long as there is a demand for it, ex. While surfing or streaming radio, as soon as there is no demand, the phone shuts it off and I can't turn it back on. It tells me no signal found for mobile networks. While voice and mssg still work. I refreshed the modem and that didn't help. Short of going back to stock, any other suggestions?
I hope you guys can help me out with a problem. Sorry about the long post ahead, I'm just trying to give as most information as possible.
Introduction: I recently installed the latest releases to see how jellybean was coming along on the Desire S. I flashed PACman and then CM10. I liked them a lot, but I usually prefer to wait until a final release, so I reverted my backup of CM7.2. One week later I notice my internet connection is very unstable, I don't know if it's my carrier's fault, or the upgrade messed with something and the backup didn't restore, and reflashing CM10 changes nothing. I didn't notice any problems right away after testing the other roms, but like I said, everything happened around the same time frame.
Problem: First of all, if I enable 3G, it will almost never connect. Sometimes I get a 2G connection, but most of the times there is no internet at all. On 2G only, it seems that a few minutes after screen-off, the connection drops. Only after I wake the device, it realizes the connection was down and resyncs with my google account. And even while awake, 2G is still very unstable, I get numerous network errors on the facebook app timeouts on google play.
Device info: Should I test other radios? I noted that it came from the factory with 3822.10.08.04_M, and was on 20.28b.30.0805U_38.03.02.11_M (I don't remember when that changed, I don't think I've ever explicitly changed a radio). Now I just flashed 3822.10.08.04 back, but it didn't change anything. Could HBOOT also have any influence the problem? I remember I downgraded do 0.98 so I could S-OFF using Revolutionary. Now I'm on 6.98.1002.
Lastly, probably a logcat would help. How should I go about doing it? Reboot phone, wait for it to connect, put it to sleep until it disconnects, wake it up, wait for reconnection, then logcat? Since the problem persists both on CM7.2 and CM10, I decided to stick with 10.0 (nk111's cm-10-20130109)
Thanks a lot in advance!
Here's a logcat I took today, if anyone is willing to investigate. Started recording after gtalk was online, turned off the screen, waited a bit, turned it back on and checked that gtalk was offline.

I'm having similar issues on Pacman 18 and 19.3.
My connections seem stable, but I cannot switch between 2G and 3G without rebooting. If I don't reboot, the phone has no internet connection.
Also, on 3G, battery life is very bad.
I'm wondering if it would help to flash a different radio. I never changed the existing radio.
