My Incredible, which I love, took a bath in my pocket and is having all sorts of issues now. I'm up for an upgrade and decided that I'm going with a Thunderbolt over the Inc2. My question is, has anyone had horror story with the recertified phones from Verizon? My boss got his Incredible from the precertified program and has had continuous issues. Thoughts?
Should be ok. If theres something
Wrong you could always send it back for a new one. I had hardware problems with a replacement and they had no problem sending out a new one.

I've never bought a certified reused phone but i did go through warranty replacements and they send me certified used ones. I don't really see a difference. They look brand new and work just as fine. If there is a problem, you can always exchange it or ask for another warranty replacement,
I suppose I could go a week or two prior to rooting it to make sure there aren't any issues. I guess I'd survive.
Mines certified used from vzw. Was bassically brand new I'm box. Everything was new except the SD card i think, it was already installed in the phone. Haven't had any problems whatsoever

I don't have a problem with a recertified device. Anytime you receive a replacement device for issues you're receiving a certified like new device. If you have any problems Verizon still covers it and replaces it for you. I would buy one.
no i hate refurbs.
Mine is a referb and I have not had a problem. Rooted it and everything and not a single problem.

Yes, depending on price. Got my brand new TB on launch day for $75 (after loyalty discount & Best Buy comp) so it would have to be pretty cheap!
Thanks, Robrecht
I would buy an HTC refurb. I've never had bad luck with manufacturer refurbished items, there are certain products that are cheap to begin with that I wouldn't buy refurbished, but then again I generally don't buy cheap stuff new either, especially when it comes to hardware.
I'd love to find a refurb on sale to buy for my girlfriend to use as we're both just starting to get into some theming and learning some development
My Bolt is a CPO. I got it for $199. The first one they sent was defective. I simply called them and they sent another. No worries since. Before my first two weeks had completed, they dropped the price on the CPO's to $169. I called them up and asked about it...they credited me the $30. I've been very pleased. Especially coming from the Eris.
Go for it.

I got mine new for 99 for an upgrade they gave me 100 off then I got a postcard with another 50 a week after I bought it so I ended up paying 99. My girl got the palm 2 and I did bill to my account ( I lost my wallet ) and instead of billing my acct the credited it for 149 dollar's. LOL bet that'll never happen again.

I buy used phones all the time, who knows if they are a refurb or not, never have problems.
Most of the problems people return their phones for can be solved with a master reset.
Nothing wrong with a cpo/refurb device imo
Buy a used TH from Craigslist and don't extend your contract. Then when the dual-core phones arrive get one of those. My next phone will be 4G, dual-core with 4 inch screen. TB just too big/heavy but I like it.

Long story short: broke my Sidekick, need a new phone.
the only phones I'm interested in is another Sidekick ($380), or a mytouch 4g slide (at least $500). problem is, even though my contract has run only a few months, it's actually cheaper to pay the cancellation fee (max $200) and switch to another provider than to buy a new phone unsubsidized, which afaik, is all t-mobile will allow. (kind of a screwed up business model, huh?)
so since its almost black friday in 6 hours or so,, does anyone know of a good sale on either Mytouch 4g slide, or even the Sidekick?
May want to check t mobiles website. You can always buy a refurbished phone as well.

You would probably be better off buying the phone off ebay or Amazon, because they're a lot cheaper than buying them from TMobile

Cool story.
Just buy a Droid RAZR with Verizon off Amazon, 1 cent.
Should always pay the insurance fee....the 100 or so deductible is better than 500 to replace a phone....

thanks for the suggestions guys, but the only good deal I found at all was for the Samsung Transform Ultra, on Boost Mobile. so I went for that, I think I'll be pretty happy to finally have real stock android rather than a Sense/Touchwiz infection.
I did look for deals on tmobile phones, but they were all for new contracts and upgrades ONLY. I even got on the customer service line twice and explained to them that 1. I could not keep using the broken phone, and 2. the ONLY adequate replacements are twice the cost of cancelling; they did not seem to have a contingency for this. oh well, their loss. my new phone, of course, will have a protection plan, but still, Tmobile really should rethink their replacement system.

Just sell your cell phone contract to a third party.
well now that i'm on Boost, I've been noticing that If I started a new contract with Tmobile under the current black friday weekend deals, I could get this or several other phones free and then actually recoup some of the money I just spent, provided I return the Boost phone I just bought. so:
in general, how good is this phone? I noticed it seemed smooth and lagless in store, but of course that's just a store model without a bunch of additional apps from the market. I'm mostly wondering if Sense causes problems at all regarding compatibility with any apps, or stability problems that wouldn't be expected to happen on a stock 2.3 rom. I have a stock 2.3 phone now, so that could be a risky change; however, this phone I have is only $230 new, single core, and is known for a screen sensitivity problem that may get worse on my handset, but may not.
also, could I expect any problems or side effects from rooting? one of my goals in that, if I get the MT4GS, will be to quickly turn the "genius" button into a search button. that cause problems for anyone? I did the same thing on the Sidekick, and sometimes it worked, sometimes not. but it may have just been that particular phone.

Some AT&T users who are looking for the HTC One X are getting some bad news from the AT&T online store. AT&T is currently out of stock on the HTC One X at their online store. I knew that the HTC was selling good, not that good.
The HTC One X's only real competition that is available to purchase right now is.... nothing. Okay, there is one smartphone that can compete with the HTC One X right at this moment and it is the HTC One S.

Wow.
Yeah, I noticed it yesterday when I was looking for accessories on AT&T's website. AC has an article too:
http://www.androidcentral.com/att-htc-one-x-out-stock-online
I hoping they just sold out and there isn't an issue with the initial batch of phones.
Well lets just say a few days ago I was at target and the lady said they sold out so fast she never even had time to replace the plaque that had the "coming soon" shown in front of phone. So she just left it there since she couldn't keep them in stock.
Yesterday I went to look online to see which best buy had this phone in stock for a friend of mine, and out of the nearest 10 best buys around me, they were all sold out.
I think this phone even with its relatively low press coverage compared to phones like Tmobile's One S is doing really well.

I talked to him the other day and he said people keep coming in for one.

I went to an AT&T store in downtown Washington DC the next day the One X was released ( I believe it was a Monday) and they were sold out.
It's more likely they've been taken off the shelf to push the new update that fixes WiFi and messaging.
I really doubt the phone is selling out. When I picked mine up they told me I was the first person to buy it. Sadly, all the other customers were just there for iPhones.

I've been to many brick-n-mortars (AT&T, Radioshack, Best Buy) looking for accessories and all the employees were asking me about it. Employees at stores that don't have "live" models on display, like RS and BB, even wanted to check my HOX out.
It's a great phone. My local store had them in stock on release day. I was in yesterday for a swap, and they still had a couple available. Even in MS this is a popular phone.

I bought this phone a few weeks ago and let me start by saying that I LOVE it. The features, the software, the hardware, EVERYTHING. But I bought it for $400 off the marketplace and it was fine at first, but then it had signal drops (for hours at a time). I didn't notice until it was far too late to ask for a refund. I sent it to Samsung, and they "fixed" it, but I got it back and it still has the issue. I've compared it to my mom's droid charge and hers has far better signal. Verizon won't replace it, but my brother is willing to give up his upgrade. He has a feature phone and no desire to upgrade. Right now I'm looking at another S III, Droid DNA, MAXX HD, or Note 2. Which should I go for?
Have you swapped around radios? Tried different ROMs?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
I am bone stock. Before I sent it in for repair I rooted, and tried every radio.
From the phone choices you picked out I would get the Note 2. If that's too big you can try another S3.
If you have a better suggestion, feel free to let me know. I hate the branded home button on the note 2 though.

I have a similar problem when making or recieving calls. For me I don't talk a lot so it is nota big deal. However you really just need to decide how inconvienient the signal issue is for you.
I would consider it a huge pain in the ass. I want my phone to work, and I'm definitely getting a new phone. I just need to decide which one.
I have also experienced call drops and poor reception in low signal areas. I'd suggest trying out a Motorola, the DNA or the Maxx.
DNA all the way. People will disagree with me because it has no SD slot and non removable battery...but if you don't need those options then I'd go with the DNA...I'm getting the DNA. HTC makes good quality phones in my opinion. Nice soft touch back, not plasticy feeling.

I have thought some more on it and I have 13 GB music, 2 GB games, plus other misc stuff, so I would say the DNA is out. The MAXX HD is an option, but the UI is heinous and there is actually 1 ROM for it. The Note II's home button should die a painful death. Any stickers for it take 3 weeks all from Hong Kong. :/ The S III is looking like my best option. Any further advice is appreciated.

My advice? Don't step into a forum that everyone in it owns a certain product and say said product is a piece of trash.
Usually doesn't go over well.
Second, if your going to complain about getting a note 2 and having to wait 3 weeks just to cover the home button so you don't see a branded logo, you've got bigger issues than a phone your not happy with.

Well, thank you kindly for bashing me.
1. Please reread the first sentence of my post (OP).
2. I didn't say that meant I wasn't getting the Note, it's just annoying. But thanks for your great wisdom.
id try another S3.
but i love my phone and havent had any issues.
have you tried a new sim card?
Yes I did, two in fact.
word, hadnt seen it mentioned yet.
whatever path you choose i hope youre happy with the decision.
if you go another route, does VZW still offer the test drive 14 day return period? Could alawys come back to the GS3 if youre not satisfied with your new device. or sell gs3, Or you could keep the galaxy as an MP3 player.
Once I get the new phone, I'm gonna give the old one another shot at getting repaired. Then I'll test it and sell it.
Why burn an upgrade to get the same phone you already have. Low signal reception it's a know issue for the s3, especially in comparison with Motorola products.

Funny story.. Back in January I made an insurance claim after washing my mytouch 4g in the washing machine. While it still worked after, I made a claim to get it replaced but never followed through with it because they wanted $130 for the deductible.
So fast forward a few months, just got a used galaxy s2 for $230. I like it a lot. So for giggles I went to see if that claim still existed, and now since they don't have the mytouch 4g anymore, they are offering me the NEXUS 4 as a replacement for $130!!!! Loool.
So... I would gain quad core performance, an extra gig of memory and better class GPU..but lose the sdhc slot and removable battery option, both of which I like.
So, anyone here that's owned both or would like to chime in? Because to be honest, I'm not so sure what to do.
Personally, I'd get the Nexus 4. It's brilliant, I tried it cause some friends have one. It is absolutely worth 130$. I have a GS2 and I won't get a new phone unless mine isn't getting the newest android version, but I'd pay the 130$ dollars for the replacement.

Easy to decide.....just consider whether you need to store lots of music/videos on your device or not. If yes, then don't go for it coz the sdcard slot of S2 is invaluable else go ahead and buy it.
Just take it as even if you don't like it could sell and make a profit but I believe you would want to keep it. It's a wonderful phone with great specs.
