SecretControlModem.apk

dying to try damageless's v1 rom, but;
wtf is SecretControlModem.apk (and odex)
maybe just being paranoid...
I had a previous post about this. It was in the original 2.1 flip and them posted. No one ever answered me. So, it's not Damage's.
google search gives nothing either. it references these threads. fishy.
Why don't you flash and pull those files out and see what happens

Except by you and me. Our posts are the only ones that pop up about this.
I saw that in the Eris dump when i was playing with it. The way i figure, if it's some call home tattletale app built into test software, it calls back to verizon and I have unlimited data - at that point I chuckled and stopped caring.

it comes from the Eris dump. If it's some tracking software put in there to keep people from sharing it, it will call back to Verizon. It wont cost me anything, since data is free.
then i realized i was getting freaked out over phone software, so I just laughed at myself and installed anyway.
It very well could be something that whoever leaked it out put in. I don't have anything I care about on my phone. I'm not suggesting it's safe, just that I thought I was silly.

It was in the Eris ROM. I don't know why any of the other devs didn't catch it.
how do i remove this? i tried it via root explorer and it didn't work...
hmmm. under further inspection i believe it takes screenshots as it contains the same exact instructions as shootme in the apk. very strange. kinda scary. i remember someone on said on the forum where the eris was leaked tht the guy who posted it will be able to see everything you do and he and the guy who started the post has only 1 post on xda to this day
but no big worrys lol it also contains png's with htc's logo.

im not sure. in the resources theres nothing to specify that. its like it takes a screenshot when you do something to trigger it and bam it sends? lol creeeepy
I've tried examining the apk myself, where are you seeing instructions that relate to ShootMe? Is it not also possible it is similar because you are looking at aspects of the APK that would be shared across most APKs in general?
Not saying this isn't something malicious, just curious what we have to suggest that it truly is.
I'm hoping its a case of "Paranoia will destroy ya", but I supposed it is possible we are all running some kind of screen-grabbing trojan. In the meantime, either follow gbhil and remove them, or hope its something legit we just don't understand.

Apps wont install

As of yesterday, none of the apps I download from either the marketplace or amazon will install. They will download without problem, but they won't actually install.
Anyone else having this problem or know of a fix?
What does the error log say?
it just says install unsuccsessful

go to applications>Manage Applications>Market>uninstall updates and clear data and cache. then go back into market and sign back in. hopefully that will fix it.
This happened to me, I had to clear some space on hard drive or whatever you want to call it? (Solid state memory, SSD, I'm really not sure) It totally fixed it.

My medical school has lectures online. I d/l them on my desktop computer, transfer them over USB, and watch them on my xoom. I fill up space pretty quickly. Each organ system is only 2 weeks, so I also empty space pretty quickly. This also means I'm waiting pretty impatiently for SD support. WTF is the hold up?
The xoom has been clutch for watching these vids while there's something on TV or while I'm cooking dinner or eating breakfast or.... you know, trying to do stuff that people with free time have the luxury of doing. Sigh....

its because you touch yourself. Or because you bought that app in the amazon store and not the Google store. Google only updates apps bought from its store.

Stock apks needed.

Can anyone provide the stock apks for wifi tether, calendar, and talk?
Also, do the widgets for stock applications like calendar come packaged in their apk, or are they separate?

Silver is working on this now, i will link you to the thread when he is done....he will including ALL stock apps there.
That's good to hear... I was having trouble finding any sources, and their lack of availability makes a bit more sense in the context you provided. I saw that someone posted the stock email apk in a thread or two however, and thought it couldn't hurt to ask.
Just for my own edification, what makes removing apks from stock roms difficult (I'm assuming it's not simple, or they would already be availabe)?

Its not Difficult......but by just deleting things you consider Bloatware you can remove something that your phones needs to run, and when it goes and looks for it and its NOT there. you phone will say dirty things to you, and may not let you turn her on any more.....

Wonderful. Now ATT can crap all over me for abusing my unlimited data plan... downloading to my phone. Uploading to dropbox. Downloading to my phone. It's an endless data hungry cycle that not even LTE demons can appease fast enough.
Right in the middle of posting that, my exceptionally slow brain chimed in with a "why don't you look for a zip file manager in the market." Dammit.

[Question] Htc Inspire 4G Camera SdCard

Hello,
I have a question about HTC Inspire 4G. I accidently stripped the gold pins on the sdcard module, so when you insert an sdcard inside of the sdcard module (slot), and then activate the camera, the camera activates, and a popup message says "Please insert an sdcard". Well, obviously it will say that, because I messed up the pins inside the module. I can get a replacement for 10.00 usd on ebay for it. But, thats not my question, I would like to see if I can root the phone, and have the pictures be saved to the internal memory instead of the sdcard.. Does anyone think this will work? If I root the phone, will the camera give me an option to save a picture anywhere else other then that darn sdcard slot? I appreciate it who ever is willing to help
Regards,

I can only speak for the ROM I'm currently using, codefireX. I just looked at Camera and Gallery settings, and I don't see an option to choose where to save pictures.
Well, before you root the phone you will need to repair the sd card module. Which will then have solved your issue regarding the cam.

Hey thanks for the feedback, and sorry I posted in the wrong section. So, it isn't possible to root it without a sdcard? Also, is their any rom I can use that will have a feature to save pictures/recorded videos to the internal memory? If not I might as well go spend a few bucks on ebay and use gentle hands to dissamble the htc xD

Nope, it's not possible to root without an sdcard. Teichopsia caught a really good point. And I don't think there is a ROM that saves to internal memory, or at least I don't know of one.

I guess it could be theorerically possible by modyfing the script (heck if I know how to), but since the phone has limited memory I don't see much fotos being stored.
If it is possible then one could add a script for it to use 'x' amount of memory (to limit the amount used) and an option which asks where you want to save it. Which would get tedious after a while being asked constantly where to save the pic - or it could ask once per session. As well you could set it to default and somewhere in settings to change the default.

That actually sounds nice, it would be pretty damn cool if their was a ROM that could do that. I mean it would be a small new feature that would help alot to users that have my problem.

Well here is a code I found for android programming that can save bitmap image to the internal memory. But, I am not a android developer, I have no knowledge of app programming and rom modding: stackoverflow.com/questions/7314125/saving-image-to-internal-memory-and-would-appear-in-the-gallery

I read some where, where a developer said that some android apps come equiped with internal/sd card options to picture saving picture. One of the apps the developer said that would work is a free app called Camera ICS. Idk, I am in the process of downloading it. I shall let you all know if this could be an option.
Update: Did not work for the camera app

+20GB space unaccounted for in all File managers. Ghost Data. Need help.

As you can see from the 2 pics, my phone shows 92Gb used in settings whereas multiple different file managers show my entire used Storage/ SD to be precisely 68.92Gb.
Where is this ghost data from and how can i find it?
PS this is not an error because the available space is indeed according to 92GB space filled. So only 23gb left.
Any advice is highly appreciated.
I have had very good success with the app SDmaid to clarify those occurences (aside from many other useful features of this app)
Have you tried to backup your important data then format down everything? I know this solution is not the best but perhaps can help you

only thing i could tell was that it is showing my full storage to be 108gb which is probably incorrect. I think 128Gb model gets atleast 116GB storage fpr use.

yea, i have the 128 model and when i first got the phone it said 116gb but i think not the OS takes up 20 GB so it leaves me with 106-108 and then i got like 12gb of data so i am already at 94gb, which is still enough but i really hate how big the android system takes up and guess it has to do with the A and B partition also.

Oh wow, i didn't know that. I think ur right because i went to the root folder in diskusage and there was the entire system, away from the /SD 108gb, so this is separate data worth 20gb or so! Damn :/
