[Q] Running some of windows apps on Transformer - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello.
I have question about running windows apps on our devices. Is it possible?
You know, lots of apps don't have high requirements. For example game DSJ(Deluxe Ski Jumping). So again - is it possible to port windows apps to transformer tablet?
Thanks for help

they first have to be compiled for arm then you would have to create an apk able to launch them

Can I convert it? Are programs to do this?

no there are no programs to do it. it would be very very difficult and you would need the source code

try jbed here- mannuforall.in/2011/04/run-java-applications-or-games-on.html
May this helpful to you.
Could somebody tell me if there is a way to run java dictionaries like Kodi for example in HTC HD2 with android 2.3.7 ?
no advice ?
In order to run some java files on my android devices, I out an Ubuntu image on my sd card and run that in chroot. Takes a couple of gig's from your memory and isn't really smooth, but it does the job:

You're probably looking for a more lightweight and flexible solution, but maybe this can help you out.

[Q] Exe files

Hi I'm farely new to xda (over on the Rezound forums mostly). Just recently I've been looking into tablets since my laptop died. My friend has this tablet and from what I've seen and read it's a good buy. Since im replacing my laptop with this I'd need to be able to run exe files. Is it possible to root and mod this to be able to run exe files? Or not since this a an android device? Sorry if this is a basic question again I'm new here. Thanks for help in advance
hmmmm, i dont think thats possible. Unless you install a different OS on it. But with pure android OS, i dont think so. EXE is kind of windows specific. But, what app are you trying to install using an EXE file? Im pretty sure there is an android equivelant for the app.
May have problems with it as exe is a program compiled for x86/x64, not ARM. Same reason why Windows RT & Pro aren't the same. Pro runs on x64 and can run normal exe's. RT runs on ARM and can't run native windows programs.

And even if it was compiled for ARM, it won't run on Android. EXE is an Windows executable and depends on the Windows runtime libraries.
It would be nice to see someone developer a full blown version of Wine for Android, or if companies like Codeweavers can make CrossOver for Android to allow the use of .exe Windows applications.
I know this is not impossible and very possible if Android is really just a Google controlled version of Linux.
My first and only paid $ purchase of Linux was Xandros 2.0 desktop OS, and one of that OS main selling features was that it had Crossover integrated into it. I could download .exe's and install them on Xandros and run Windows apps.
You're looking at two different processor architectures on two different operating systems. You would need a whole lot more than just a crossover/wine for Android. Consider purchasing the Asus Vivo Tab (not the Vivo Tab RT) if you have to run .NET/win32/WinRT executables. Also consider if android has equivalent apps that suit your needs. What kind of Windows programs do you use?

If you ran this, installed Trinux on it and ran wine/crossover (provided they even support Trinux) you MIGHT have a chance at running windows apps. But it will likely be insanely slow.
The other option is to buy a new server, install Windows Server 2008/Server 2008 R2, buy a router that supports VPN, get a really good internet service (preferably with symmetrical data rates), buy the XTraLogic RDP app for android, tunnel into your VPN from your android device, set up terminal services on Windows Server, buy one Terminal Services Client Access License, configure RemoteApp in terminal services and run the apps using XTraLogic RDP on your android from your windows server. You would have to keep the server running 24/7.
My point being, even if you could pull this off, it would be incredibly impractical. Consider alternatives, like equivalent apps for Android or an X86 tablet.

[Q] Could a pad be used for developing small Java/C++ tasks?

Hi
I've been wondering of getting a new laptop/pad(hopefully a ASUS Transformer Pad / or if there are any better options for installing linux on) to use for schoolwork. But i need it for some programming tasks (Java, C++).
So I was thinking of installing Linux, and installing some compilers if it was possible.
I do already have a laptop that can do the more heavier tasks, but it's to large to keep draging around.
So is there any huge downfalls with installing linux on a pad? Problem with usb connections, drivers, etc. that could cause problems when developing?
Thanks in advance =)

[Q] Use unofficial apps Surface 2 RT + playstore ?

Hi,
I want to buy a Microsoft Surface 2 with Windows 8.1 RT.
I want to know is a jailbreak is possible for this tablet, to allow me to launch unofficial apps like "the no RT windows".
I also want to know if it's possible to install Android Playstore on it, and if it's possible to watch football stream like on this site on it : http://xn--frstrowsports-39b.eu/
Thanks
OK, first of all (and should be obvious): There's no jailbreak (which is a software mod) to make an ARM processor run x86 code. That's like asking if you anybody has a way to turn an iPad into a MacBook Pro.
Second: There's no (publicly released) jailbreak for RT 8.1 at this time, but if you want to you can downgrade to 8.0 (may take a little work to get it going but is said to be possible) and then use the 8.0 jailbreak. This will let you run code on the Desktop, but the programs still need to either be .NET based or need to be recompiled from x86 (normal Windows CPU architecture) to ARM (mobile device CPU architecture). See the link in my signature.
No, you can't run Android apps on it. Same way you can't run iOS apps on Android or Android apps on iOS, or Mac apps on Windows.
There are lots of apps on the Windows store for streaming sports videos; I don't know about one for that in particular.
Okay, thanks for your help.
Because i have to choose between a Galaxy Note 10,1" and the Surface 2.
But i don't know if the surface is a good choice, because of the market. The market is really poor i think...
So, on this tablet, we are unable to use Google Chrome for exemple ?
Google has not released a version for RT, so you are correct that it won't work.
On the other hand, the Surface has full IE8.1, not just a crippled mobile UI, meaning it can do things like tracking protect/ad-blocking. It also supports (comes with) full Flashplayer, which hasn't been available on Android for years. Don't know if you find that useful.

[APP] Ideas for Linux apps on Android (UserLAnd)

Hi all! We have started back on our project, UserLAnd (userland.tech), which is an easy way for people to have Linux distros or Linux apps on your Android device. One of the things we are trying to work on is developing access to apps that currently aren't available on Android through our platform. For example, we have just launched a GIMP app (which is the actual GIMP!) and also desktop Firefox (here is a link to all of our apps in the play store - https://play.google.com/store/apps/dev?id=8617260147938950881)
Anyway, I wanted to get some ideas from the community on what apps we should consider pursuing! Let me know and thanks in advance!
