[Q] SuperOneclick 2.3.3.0 - General Questions and Answers

I am trying to root a kindle fire. I downloaded superoneclick 2.3.3.0. I have windows 7 64 bit. I see the driver for kindle fire is listed in the ini file. If I launch superoneclick and click root, the status indicates the daemon was killed and then restarted successfully. Nothing else happens after this. If I wait more than a minute and try to click anything in the application, the not responding displays. I downloaded superonclick from another site and I get the same response from the app. The kindle does seem to be attached to the pc ok since I can see the folders. Also I do have install 3rd party apps enabled. Also, I did run superoneclick as administrator and disconnected all other usb devices.
What cold be wrong here?

[Q] ADB no devices

Hey guys, I followed the guide, added the lines to the inf, even downloaded the other inf and coppied over it. I can not get ADB to recognize my gTablet. I even removed the mass storage driver that was associated with the tablet
I know my adb works with my mytouch slide.
Has anyone else not been able to connect adb to the gTablet?
I followed the guide exactly.
There are no errors in my device manager.
USB debugging mode is on.
I cant think of anything else to try.
Update driver
This is the steps I took, FYI I'm running Windows 7 on my computer.
Completed the the steps in the Guide (as you did). Then had to Go to Control Panel>Device Manager; and had to manually update the drivers. In Device Manager select the G Tablet>Driver>Update Driver and navigate to your usb_driver folder in your SDK.

Not sure what you are using ADB for however I have had issues with my PC retaining the driver for it as well. I use an app called ADBWireless that allows me to connect wirelessly and use ADB commands for a few simple things. It's a good workaround if your just pushing and pulling a few apps and such.

Thats what I figured I would do. I am also in Windows 7 but X64. I go to the device manager and I dont have a gTablet listed anywhere that I can find, but like I said there are no exclamation points in the device manager.. no devices that are not working.
I tried to update the "Portable Devices>f:" that shows up when I plug in the tablet but it wont let me.
So in your device manager.. there is a top level listing for "gTablet"?

Is there anything under USB drivers at the bottom for android bridge, or something along those lines? If not does it list NVIDIA Harmony drives anywhere? If neither try unplugging and plugging in your device a few times to see what dissapears when you plug it in. Reply back and we can go from there.

Found it.. it was under "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" and called "USB storage device" i believe.
I tried updating the driver with the andoid one, but it errored out and wouldnt load it. After that however, 2 new devices popped up.. both the Nvidia harmony drive, and another nvidia tegra one. The harmony drivers failed to load.. so I pointed at the directory in the SDK and bam it works!!
Thanks guys!
But also btw.. before I got this working, I did use ADBWireless to run the adb shell and run that camand mentioned in the main thread that is supposed to stop the slow downs.. and I think its working.
enjoy, can you point me to the post that you needed this for? Also, now that ADB works you can start making your own apps. With either Eclipse and Android SDK (more advance route, but there is alot of good books that could help you alot) or with app invnetor that just got released to the public.

[Q] Brk root method reports success, but no root

Hello,
Firstly, this is a long explanation, so, for the lazy, I have put a TL;DR version at the bottom of the post. Scroll there to get the general idea.
I have attempted to root my Transformer numerous times now. It is a serial number B60.
I am running Windows XP, so I am trying to use Brk's script.
I am using v6.3.1 of the script, because I have the latest OTA update.
This is my 'Build number' in 'About tablet': HTJ85B.US_epad-8.6.5.9-20110816
I have been trying this method since 8.6.5.6 and at the time I used v6.1 of the script (other methods including a VirtualBox run of rebound's One-Click Universal root linux live-CD).
When I run the script, I follow the instructions exactly.
I backup (option 1), then reboot into APK mode again.
Then, I flash unsecure boot.img (option 4) and CWM. I have tried only installing unsecure boot.img and it has made no difference.
Flashing the unsecure boot.img reports success and flashing CWM reports success.
Next, I reboot into regular Android OS.
Development mode is on for the USB. I check to see if ADB is working (option 7).
ADB is not working. The reason? I do not have root. I have installed the Terminal Emulator application. When I run the command 'su', it says 'Permission denied'.
I have also tried the Transformer pure root tw/us/ww/de/jp (8.4.4.5/11/12/8.6.5.6/7/9) and it has the same results. That is, flashing unsecure boot reports success, as does flashing CWM, but I have no root.
Additionally, I tried a VirtualBox run of rebound's One-Click Universal root linux live-CD. That failed, because I couldn't capture the Transformer as a USB device).
TL;DR version
I have tried several different methods of rooting my Transformer. It is serial #: B60 series running HTJ85B.US_epad-8.6.5.9-20110816.
All drivers are set up completely.
All steps are followed
All steps report success
Root is not granted
ADB will not work
???
More details at the top
One last thing
The only thing that I can think may possibly explain this problem is that I do not have an SD card in the tablet. I know some guides specify that you need one and other ones do not say anything.
I do not think that this is the cause, chiefly because everything reports 'success'.
Are these results typical of what happens when someone tries to flash a B70 or B80 model? If so, is it possible that, although I have a B60 series model, the innards are that of the B70/80 series and thus, incompatible?
I hope that posting my results and problems will help solve someone else's problem at the very least.
At this point, even someone just replying and letting me know that I have done everything correctly would be nice.
Have you got the ASUS drivers installed in your pc? i.e. can you connect and sync your device normally?
Here's a hint from the BRK thread:
Found the problem. I didn't install the ASUS PC Suite, just the drivers. Found a hint in another post that PC Suite seems to contain something in addition to the driver which is needed for ADB connections. No idea what it is, the device manager entries still look same...
so did you install the ASUS PC Suite as well as the drivers?
Success!

Wow! I feel like a complete idiot...
I downloaded and installed the "Asus Eee PAD Transformer TF101 USB Driver" which I thought was what the PC Suite was. I was wrong.
Everything is working after installing the PC Suite and then trying ADB.

did you enable development ? it is for adb
I found that out early on that the PC Sync app is essentially just a front-end for ADB, since the app wouldn't work when I had debugging enabled on the TF.

Yes. The trouble was that the PC Suite wasn't installed. I thought I had it installed, but it turned out that I only installed the drivers. Everything is running smoothly now.
The thing that still seems odd to me is that I tested to see if I had root, using the terminal application. It said "Permission denied". But, after installing the PC suite, adb was able to function and apparently did something magical.
So, I have to ask. What is this black magic?!

New TF700T not showing in adb?

Hey everyone,
I've read through the All-In-One guide about how to root the TF700T, downloaded the driver pack, put it into developer mode and enabled unknown sources. When I plugged the device into my computer it was immediately recognized and automatically installed the drivers and I can see it through Windows Explorer and browse the file system.
Unfortunately the device doesn't show in adb and I read through this quote in the guide, "if not, install the ADB drivers from Windows Device Manager (if you don't know how to do it then you better stay off from rooting your device)" so I went to the Device Driver and and tried to update the driver with the ADB driver, however, it says it's not compatible.
On the Android device I see the USB mode as Media Device (MTP) and that USB Debugging Connected
In Windows Device manager I see under "Portable Devices" the "ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T" is there and installed without error.
There aren't any device drivers that have a yellow icon indicating they aren't configured correctly.
I had purchased the tablet a few days back and it prompted me for a system update which I did.
I've tried rebooting both my computer and the tablet but it didn't appear to assist.
I'm assuming I'm doing something silly and simple but I cannot for the life of me figure it out.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what I may be doing wrong?
Thanks in advance everyone,
Septurious

Thanks for the info! I searched for "universal adb driver xda" in good ol Google and got to this post.
Downloaded the drivers and started to do the install process described in the post but when I did the "uninstall and delete" drivers deal and then replugged in the TF700T I quickly clicked on the "driver install" dialog in windows and told it NOT to search Windows Update which seemed to cause it to grab the adb drivers that I grabbed from the original post and voila it worked.
After running through the debugfs script and running the SuperUser program once I was rooted and finally got smartdimmer and remote management disabled.
Thanks so much for your reply, most appreciated!

Glad I could help.
Excuse me that I didn't post the link directly it's a pain on the phone.
I had a similar problem. The TF700 was automatically found, and no ADB drivers were installed. I kept trying to uninstall the driver, but it wouldnt let me. I don't have an option to "delete drivers" on uninstall.
When I tried installing "legacy hardware" to force the drivers, it would come up listed under "Samsung" and not Asus. I think I have my drivers all screwed up from previous phones i've had. I took the driver set, and went to another PC (same os, Win 7 ult x64), and had no problem installing all the drivers and rooting.
Anyone have an idea for me? Not sure if I should start going through my sys32 and manually deleting all driver files associated with my tablet.
Fixed.
I had to do this.
http://www.thewindowsclub.com/how-to-remove-old-unused-device-drivers-in-windows-7
Went through and cleaned up all the old drivers, between the old Samsung Drivers, Motorola Drivers, previous Android ADB drivers. I now plugged in my TF700, and while the ADB shows up as a Samsung device, it shows up on "adb devices", which it didnt before.
Another solution
I tried all listed tips but failed.
ADB driver was installed automaticaly after enabling USB-modem on my TF700.
Now android device chooser showing device
for hours i tried it! no i know why it didnt work!

Android Maxell Maxtab C8 MID Tablet Google Play Fix

So here's how I did it:
Basically, with an Cortex A8 processor, the Maxell C8 tablet seems to be a slightly upgraded Allwinner A10, which is a bit cheaper than the Maxell tablet but then again Maxell really did package theirs nicely in terms of casing. But it's no secret - when you plug in the Maxell C8 with Windows 7 it shows clearly that it's a MID tablet. So essentially, my theory is that this method should work on all similar tablets such as Allwinner A13,A10 etc (although many of those come with preinstalled google play, as China, like me, doesn't give a **** about copyright). For reference, my tablet is running Android 4.0.4
Step 1. Root your tablet.
This took me a few times to figure out but this program called "Android Root Unlock" finally did it for me. You can get it from Source Forge: http://sourceforge.net/projects/androidroot/
Enable USB debugging (settings > developer options > Usb debugging). Then just connect your tablet to your PC via USB, wait until Windows recognizes the device. It should read "MID" in the device manager screen. The unpack the zip file you downloaded above on your Windows machine and run "ICS_Root_Unlocker.bat" it while the tablet is still plugged into USB. A black terminal window will open, just follow the instructions from there. Your tablet will restart - that means it probably worked, don't close the program yet but follow what it says to the end until the terminal window closes. Now you can unplug your device.
Step 2. Install modded Google Play
Now you can go ahead and follow the instructions on xda-developers.com:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1650116
That's it! Google play now works like a charm and I can download stuff directly from Google Play without problems

Thanks for your efforts, I'll give it a try. I was going to try Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry, but as you've confirmed it works, I'll use Android Root Unlock.
I think it's running Jelly Bean, it's my dads tablet. I'll see him tomorrow.

Anyone managed to install either a recovery image or a custom rom on the maxtab?
I've rooted mine but cannot get fastboot to work and unable to load a recovery image. Adb is working OK. Tried clockworkmod but device is unsupported.

Hi, thank you for your guide.
Unfortunately i'm unable to complete it because when i connect the maxtab c8 to a windows 7 system it doesn't find the MID driver so the root bat doesn't find the device.
Do you have any hint in how to complete the procedure?
Thank you.

Thanks for the hint; I was able to execute the bat file but i still have some problems.
The procedure looks like complete but if I open Root Explorer and try to do some changes in \system\app it just tell me that it's in read only mode.
Tried root check pro and it's all red...
superuser installed
sbin/su: permission denied
system/bin/su: no file
system/xbin/su: Setuid attribute present and root user ownership present. Root access is correctly configured for this file! Executing this file can grant root access!
system/xbin/sudo : no exsist
su binary not found or not operating correctly
Tried to run the su file in system/xbin/su as a script on the tablet and via adb without any changes. Checked a bit online but i'm a bit stucked since my other android device (lg p500) was much easier to root.
If you have any idea i't will be very helpful. Thank you.
Ok solved.
To easy root the maxtab c8 (android 4.1) i used the RK29 tab tolkit v1.3: easy and fast.
Now i have problem installing the play store...
I followed the guide but since i don't have any Vending.apk or phonesky.apk in system/app i just copied it without a backup, rebooted but nothing happened.
Need more testing.
Ok play store installed and working.
I didn't use the apk linked in the first post, i had to use this one instead: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1934441
The method is the same (copy in system/app, set the permission as rw-r--r-- and then reboot) just use the apk i linked.
Hope this help someone.:victory:

Kindle Fire 2nd gen Root and Google play HELP

I am a Noob. I was wondering if anyone can Step by Step help me with downloading all needed files. Step by step help me root and load my Kindle Fire 2 with Google play. I have read some of the threads and youtube vids. But can find certian ones or vids are missing. Thank you if someone has this in step by step process. Noob Out!!!
Re: Kindle Fire 2nd gen Root and Google play HELP
Prerequisites:
A FULL stock Kindle Fire 2nd Gen with latest firmware (10.5.1)
A Windows PC with Kindle Fire ADB drivers
A USB Cable (one should have come with your Kindle Fire device)
Alright! Let's get started!
Unlock your device and do the following:
Pull down the notification bar and go to More>Device and turn on "Allow Installation of Applications from Unknown Sources"
Now go back and go to Security and turn on "Enable ADB"
Double check you're on the latest firmware by going back to Device and going to About
Are you good so far? If so, your device is ready to be rooted!
Now on your computer, Download the file in this post: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460
Now extract the zip file to your desktop in a folder named Root
Connect your USB cable to your computer and then to your Kindle Fire device
Run the RunMe.bat in the Root folder
Make sure your device is unlocked, then press 5 on your keyboard and press Enter
If your device checks out (doesn't have SuperSU installed and its not rooted), then it will show a Restore request on your device, tap Restore My Device
It will say Restore Started and then Restore Finished within 1-2 seconds
Your device will now reboot
Now, before you start freaking out because now your screen is at the lock screen and the Kindle Fire boot logo keeps flashing in the middle of the screen and you cant unlock it, this is normal! It is still rooting your device
It will reboot one more time
If everything went well, then you should be able to unlock your device and see SuperSU installed, meaning your device is now rooted!
Since I'm VERY tired and can barely stay awake right now, the page that tells you how to install Google Play to your Kindle Fire are the androidguys. Thats the one I followed.
Hope this helped,
