Is my SD card good for Data2SD ? - Desire HD Accessories

I have a samsung mini sdcard class 2 on my HTC desire.
Read : 20MB/s
Write : 5MB/s
measured by an Sd test app.
I notice some lag while trying the amarullz data2sd in some apps. but not sure if other sdcard can improve the speed
As I read around, the difference between my card and other higher class is only the Write speed. Is it true ? and does it matter ? because for app i think it only needs to read the data to the memory most of the time.
I would like to confirm this before buying a new sdcard. Thanks

Recommendation on Fast Class 4 SDHC 16gb?

I'm about to Root my phone and do the Apps2SD.
Will a Class 4 be fast enough?
The 16gb class 6 is about $50. That's just too much for me. that'll put the cost for this phone to be +$600 (529+20 for case + 50 for card).
There's a 16gb Kingston class 4 on amazon for $30.
Just wanna make sure I don't waste money on this and the apps all lag or something.
Thanks guys.
class 2 should be just fine. cards of different classes only differ in their write speed but not their read speed. AFAIK, there's no Android app that needs write speed faster than the one provided by class 2.
The only advantage of class 4/6: they might be faster when transferring files from your computer to your N1's SD card via USB.

Why do you need Apps2SD? Have you run out of space already?

[Q] What class is my micro sd card?

Hi all,
This should be a quick answer...
How do I know what class my micro sd card is? Its a San Disk 8Gb. Can I assume the little 2 in a circle is the class? Would I be better getting a class 6 card?
Thanks.
Owen.
corect the number in the circle is the class. I running a class 6 samsung and in all honesty no earth shattering diff in 99% of thing phone can do

quick answer, yes it's (potentially) faster
However my Sandisk memory card doesn't have circle and number. Then how can l find out which class it is?
this is going to be hard for you to find out.. so let me try to be clear as possible and god help you with the steps.
first . you pull your memory card out...................

read the number -_-

Hello terzer,
without number on the card only a transfer test can give you an answer.
When you have an adapter to use the card with your pc card reader, you
can stop the time to transfer e.g. 100 MB to the card. Devide the 100 MB
by the time and you have the writing transfer rate (e.g. for 10 s:
100 MB / 10 s = 10 MByte / s ), repeate this with reading the 100 MB
back and you have the reading transfer rate.
Class 2 - 2 MB/s minimum writing
Class 4 - 4 MB/s minimum writing
Class 6 - 6 MB/s minimum writing
Class 10 - 10 MB/s minimum writing
Stop time after finished copy process - pc somtimes uses write cache
and displays multiple of real rate.

There's a sd card speed tester on the market. I forget the exact name. Try that to find your class.

I test transfer speeds with "J Disk Benchmark". No idea if it's the best or anything, but it gets the job done and it's free

It's "SD Card Speed Test". I guess someone with a huge imagination named it

this will be far more accurate than the class rating on the card and you can really compare cards decisively
Hmmm just used "J Disk Benchmark" to test my SD CARD it suposed to be a 16 GB class 4 . read speed 2,4 MB write speed 1,4 MB so its more a class 2 than a class 4 card !!

Memory cards for Ace 2

I see here a lot questions about memory cards so:
Ace 2 internal memory have read up to 30MB/s so :
http://m.mymemory.co.uk/product?p=41391 that card is ok, have also up to 30MB/s and is cheap.
That card is the best and we dont need faster :
http://m.mymemory.co.uk/product?p=41591
She have up to 95MB/s read.
I have both and on first card I dont have lags in games but on that secund card loading times in games are impressive.
When you do a swap remember about minimum 30MB/s read in card which you want buy. Capacity of storage is your choice and it dont have meaning on speed of that card.
What card do you have guys?
(I sorry for mistakes in text but my english is weak)
But why do you need that strong cards, r/w speed is just when you are transfering some files (also speed can depend on usb port or card reader), i personally have class 4 card and dont need any better. I didn't experience lag in games or something like that.
Odp: Memory cards for Ace 2
On class 4 I cant play in vice city on full details ( on class 10 I can) A lot of games have lags on class 4. Games like : Amazing spiderman, gta vice city, gangstar 3, etc... and other wheare is a lot of data transfering and is open world.
Simply turn on vice city on FULL setings and you get a big lags ( freez on 2,3 secunds ) This is only on class 4, too much data dump because that card cant hendle it ( IF YOU HAVE SWAP )
Few days ago i downloaded gta vice city and on full details i have around 25fps (aprox.)
Odp: Memory cards for Ace 2
Me not. Only on 10 class. My system is sloooow on class 4 to slow writing in some pleace.
You can check it. Instal gta 3 on internal memory and turn it on on full details ( lights, better tekstures etc...) and you dont get lags but then do that same on class 4... (you get lags, litle but lags)
Amazing spiderman - is not playable on class 4 (JB/GB) but with good class 10 and JB you can play it on medium settings. Not allways people need that but I have from people ~10 questions about it on xda on each day so I write my opinion here.I write it from my experiance.

It can be. Ace 2 have 30MB/s ( SD Tools )
But it can by up to 30MB but on another files. Simply - on litle files like .pdf .jpg can be fast but slow on big files like movies. You can try that card on Windows in card reader with some tests programs

I think if you also have a original card, there is no difference between your both.
Question: Are the massively lags, while and after installing an app, also caused by my class 4 card and modified vold.fstab?
I dont think because i have class 4 and everything runs smooth.

[Q)] About Swap on Class10 card

Hello my question is simple, everybody knows about fits low ram issue.
If i buy class 10 sd card (ex: 16gb), can i give 1 gb ram to phone with swap ?
Will it effect to performance ? System cpu speed enough but ram really low
Thx for answers...

You could use SD card with swap to extend the ram but it going to be dead within 2 weeks because of the exessive Reads/Writes
I did used for a couple of days a 10 class Sandisk of 8GB with swap enabled and did not impact so much on performance.
Today bought http://www.digitalversus.com/memory-card/lexar-micro-sdhc-32-gb-class-10-uhs-1-600x-p16172/test.html (not from amazon but same card), 512mb ext4 and 256mb for swap with CWM use... (I will use high values later )
Results are okay, everything faster than i imagine. A lot of cards have 2 year guarantee, like this one. If your card dead in 2 week like k3eNaNz said, you can change easily in my opinion ( so use local market). And developer said 7 years usage time...
However i'm so happy , i'll add more virtual ram to my fit without speed loss
1gb ram on galaxy fit not bad

Yes a lot of class10 - 8gb microsd card around. Search in xda " clockworkmode swap" you can find many topic about this.
But remember, you should need class 10 or above sd card, ext4 and swap supported kernel too. ( so a lot of kernel and rom support these functions)

I also use 32GB class 10 sdcard. But I'll never try swapping. Coz even if I do have backup on my laptop but windows 7 disonnects the sdcard during copy/paste via card reader. So in case my sdcard is dead by applying swap & I buy new one...windows wont allow me copy files back... & using FTP to transfer files is very tiring process with possibility of errors...But it's my opinion guys.
Swapping not like real ram, like i said virtual ram. But All of you be can sure, virtual ram really boost the (our) phones x10 times.
Example: closed ext swap last night (from clock work mode) and installed "ram manager pro." And added 1gb (1024mb) (also will add 2048mb) swap ram to my fit. I did because of clcokworkmode give only 256mb swap ram.
Result: All apk's first open really open like vanilla (default). But after second one, you can see improvement. Speed comes with smile. And best thing for you, ram optimitizion scripts and task killers not necessary. Because swap file directly answer your response with 30mb/ps(+) read rate.
Recommend: Try with 8gb class 10 sd cards, they're cheap nowadays, you won't regret
Tip: Galaxy fit support only (maximum) 32gb sd cards.
