Hi There,
Ive been admiring the work of many here for a very long time.
I have owned a Blue Angel for about 18 months and a wizard since January.
The wizard has been flashed around 7 times in 4 weeks lol which is quite a bit for an HTC noob like me.
I have tried Orwells Rom (very stable for me) but then decided to upgrade to .mUn.'s rom as it was a newer version.
Unfortunately it wasnt quite as vanilla as I like.
Vanilla == No reg tweaks, No apps at all and no damned Cyberon!
Everytime I try to build myself a rom (tried Molski's kit and NotTooSmart's) I get a problem.
Dump decrypted NBA with Typhoon Tools
prepare_imgfs (with nosplit)
viewimgfs
hv > rgu
Added REGEDIT4 to the top line, saved as unicode, did everything correct as far as I know.
then back to hv's (yep right size, 750kb ish)
Then put it all back together. (incl the removal of bytes form initflashfiles.dat back to the first
1st Time with Molski's Kit = Booted fine, but would never load OS after a softreset
(few more attempts with the same kinda thing - failed )
Last time with NTS's kit = Stuck on the splash the IPL/SPL and would go no further.
Sorry for my ignorance, but what have I missed!
I hear about XIP sections and what have you, means very little to me!
I just want to build myself a rom on which I can mess around with :'(
Thanks Folks,
-Whiterat
When you remove the bytes from the front of the initfileflashes.dat file, what are you removing? It should just the FF, FE. Also, make sure you have English set in your regional and language options under the advanced tab.
If that fails, you may have a corrupt nk.nbf, since you've had BOTH kitchens fail. I would download a new ROM copy, dump and immediately rebuild and flash just to make sure you are properly going through that process. Then make one change at a time. It's time consuming I know, but you'll be wiser for the experience.
Peace,
JB

Thanks for taking the time to reply.
initflashfiles.dat should start with a ; (Since ; is used to remark lines) so I just remove back to that.
With regards to setting English, where abouts is the advanced tab? In what program even?
I did as you said with the nk.nbf and it goes on just fine without editting a thing
Its a pain testing these things, since I usually end up having to restore from SD which rewrites the extended rom, gsm, os, spash screen, htc screen, etc and then it takes ages for me to reflash my bits!
I can upload my rom if someone is willing to take a peek, see if I have missed something really obvious?
Too many files?
I had a similar issue (I think?) where everything seemed to work and the nk.nbf file was created OK. However there would be an error logged in the Windows Event Log about faulting an application. The resulting ROM image would install but I got a white screen following the reset (it made noises like it was working though). I followed the instructions for Molskis cooking tools to the letter and couldn't understand what the issue was I posted on here for some assistance but after I got no helpful replies I played around a bit more and realised the dump folder was slightly over 128MB (Size said less but I think it was over?). Anyway I removed some more files I didn't need and low and behold it all worked
I don't know what the absolute maximum size the dump folder can be, but I keep mine below 128,000,000 bytes....

Not talking about that...
You have to open up initfileflashes.dat with a hex editor and remove the first two bytes (FF, FE). Then you can put the file back into the dump folder and build it.

The dump folder of the last one I cooked said:
Size: 121 MB (127,089,811 bytes)
Size on disk 131 MB (137,654,272 bytes)
And this worked fine, it was a re-heat of Faria's Real Thing ROM where I re-added VoIP & Windows Update (VoIP works but Windows Update won't and I can't figure out why - the application fails to connect to the MS site and won't close, but that's another story.......).
Andy
Yep I get that, I am a reverse engineer by trade so naturally I get what the manual had to say.
The limitation of imgfs is IF there are more than 1500 files being added to nk.nbf, the file size limitation also applies.
I am not adding any files to the dump, simply removing the cyberon stuff (and removing the microsoft callbacks, and sqm stuff)
Tried buling without removing sqm stuff and same thing.
I guess its just not going to be my thing
Here's what to do.
Delete the current 84000000-os.nb file in the ROMDUMP folder, then remake it. That should solve your problem. I forgot that I had the same problem.
Ahh I will give that a go
I was hoping to pick up a half broken wizard from ebay (broken digitiser/blocked/missing case/etc) and just use it as a tester, since I get alot of people whining when I am uncontactable for 90 mins
(About the right time to fiddle, flash and reinstall stuff)
Hi guys!
It took me a while to make it running. I get into the login screen, but login without keyboard is kind of tricky. Anyone an idea how to proceed from here?

Could you share?
Hi,
could you please share how you did it and post the necessary files? Once i have it running maybe i can help you, but it doesent work on my touch yet. Are you using haret? If so could you post your default.txt initrd haret.exe ... and all the other files needed? Which ROM are you using, how much memory do you have free (RAM/ROM). Sorry if i annoy you, but i want to run Linux on my elf
greetz and thx
Oli
You guys are out of your minds... I'm excited how your experiment will turn out....
up up!! =) This was my dream from the beginning, can't wait))
i tried, but i think that our elf is poor of RAM memory...

Did you make any change to Linwizard? Care to share how you get it working? How about getting Android running on the Elf?
Hi guys!
Sorry I couldn't get back to you earlier. I'd like to zip my haret setup and post it here, but right now I don't have the time for it. Maybe tonight...
But basically I'm using the standart linwizard initrd and zImage files, but I replaced the older 0.5.0 version of Haret if the newer 0.5.1. For the first run I connected to the Elf with telnet to see which processes were running and killed all, that I thought I wouldn't need. Then I made a shortcut to the haret file and made sure, that it would be available in the start menu. So I didn't have to run the file explorer which consumes a lot of RAM. I also closed ActiveSync and made a soft reset before running haret and linux.
For the subsequent runs i added the kill commands to the default.txt file. Of course, this is a little bit dangerous, but works well. Ah, and another thing:
I added the root wait to the default.txt command line options. This leaves some time for the system to recognize the file system. Before that I sometimes out Kernel Panics. Here's my default.txt, but be careful with the kill commands!!!
kill QuickDial.exe
kill MediaHubMini.exe
kill APLauncher.exe
kill Biotouch.exe
kill tmail.exe
kill SAPSettings.exe
kill connmgr.exe
set MTYPE 6666
set KERNEL "zImage"
set INITRD "initrd"
set CMDLINE "rootdelay=10 root=/dev/ram0 ramdisk_size=20504 init=/linuxrc rw"
bootlinux
About my initial question: after getting to the login screen I can connect to the Elf with the USB wire and on my WinXP machine I get a "new hardware found : ether gadget" dialog. But I can't find any drivers for that. Does anyone knowwhat I could do here (besides the obvious tip to use Linux on the desktop machine). If that would be working, I could use ssh to log in to the touch ssh server and I could start the x server from there...
So far I had no luck to run android. This might be because it's compiled with different options or because it consumes more RAM. I think the Elf resets immediately after pressing run in Haret.
[UPDATE]: I could solve the "no keyboard" problem by attaching the fully bootet linux-on-elf to my Mac. The Mac recognized the CDC Ethernet device and I could login using ssh to the dropbear server on the ELF. From there I could run startx and even had a very simple x server running with a clock and a xterm! If this is running, why shouldn't we make android running on our touch?!
Perhaps that's because Elf has small RAM as you mentioned... did any1 tried on Elfin?
After I could bring up the Linwizard's x server with the two mini apps I could even boot into the first three boot messages of android. But after that it dies:
...
init: HOW ARE YOU GENTLEMEN
init: reading config files
init: device init
_ (blinking cursor)
does anyone have an idea what that could mean? the blinking cursor somehow seems to signal that it hasn't died yet, but there's no progress either...
[Update]: Hm, the linux really didn't die. When I plug in the usb wire I get:
udc: USB reset done, gadget ether. The question is, how can I continue from here. What is androids IP. I tried to pass it to the cmdline argument, but no luck so far
Android Kernel and Framebuffer
There are several Problems. First you need an Android patched and enabled kernel. I am working on that now. The second Problem is that the omap framebuffer driver doesnt support double buffering.
With the little hack from here it could work. But i havent had the time to try it yet. When i am finished with testing i'll post my results here.

I'm able to boot Linwizard 0.2.0 on my Elfin. Great work from the Linwizard team!
With the new Linwizard kernel I even get the tux Logo and after using the android initrd I get a ANDROID line and a blinking cursor. How far are we now from bringing up the x server?
Anyone successful?
I forgot to mention that I have a WM6.1 Blue elves images on my ELF. With the KILL commands I'm trying to free up some space before starting linux
Hav you tried with the light ROM?? and please anyone who has an ELFIN try to run android on it)) if it's successful I'll buy one)) for now I have just an ELF
For the moment my N95 is in service for repair, so i can't loose my only way of comunicating with the outer world, but as soon as it gets back me, i'll try Android and post back results
Sorry, didn't have time to try the light rom yet and probably neither for the rest of the weekend... I hope to get to that next week...
And try to find the reg tweaks to save RAM. Coz for now I'm not ready to to change my ROM and delete everything))
NFS?
Was any one of you mounting the android image over nfs? What are the CMDLINE options and which IP will the kernel have afterwards? Before going on I'd like to try the NFS way, just to see how far we can get, if the cell phone is attached to a supporting Laptop (not that mobile though)
First you need the Linwizard android branch kernel. I've downloaded the android branch from Linwizard git server and compiled my own.
After that you need to export your android file system via NFS on the PC side. On your Elf, do a 'mount -t nfs -o nolock <you pc ip address>:<file path to your android file system> <local mount point on Elf>'. After that, do a chroot on Elf to start Android. See http://elinux.org/Android_on_OMAP#Start_up for details.
I've tried this on my Elfin and I can see the red eye moving. But after some time I get a segmentation fault and the red eye stops. The Elfin did not hang though. I can still ssh into it. I have not had time to further test after this.
nothing booting?
on my HTC elf it says not much text. last line is: booting to kernel.
after that it goes gray and 2 seconds later it goes to a white screen what am i doing wrong.
my default.txt is attached.
thanks
need help whot manila!

In use 26.07 Mb
Free: 19.01 (22 when it boots i belive)
thanks
There's a couple problems in doing this as I see it...
First, Changing the Soft Keys when using the WinMo interface (NOT Manila/TouchFlo) requires a registry Hack. I'm assuming that there's prolly a different registry setting somewhere to change what Manilla sets the SoftKeys to, but you'd have to find that first. Maybe someone who is more familiar with the Manilla interface and where registry/settings are, could give you that info...
Secondly, I don't believe (or at least know of) an Executable app that Locks the device. I believe the built-in "Device Lock" functionality is calling a DLL or running service/exe or something, but I don't know of an EXE in the windows directory that you can click on to lock your device. Another post I read mentioned something of a "lock.exe" file in the \Windows\ directory but I believe that was a reference to a 3rd party app since I do not have/see that file. Again someone with more knowledge - please feel free to step in and correct/inform.
in light of those two problems I would recommend using the built-in (or at least built-in on my phone - Fuze w/ WinMo) "Long Press End Key" option found in Start > Settings > System which can be set to lock the device when the "end" key is held down. This option may or may not exist on your phone... I am not sure if it's just something HTC included on mine, or what.
I hope this helps a little bit, or someone else can be of better assistance.
found it
thnaks for ur answer i found it de devicelock is hidden in windows right now i cant remember if its a.exe or what but its named devicelock.
i sold that phone to a friend and now i got an opal, its funny because i found my own q while looking for the same app
My bad in advance if this question is off topic.
Lets you say you flashed the stock rom [why i don't know] or one of the roms hanging around here. The RUU goes to 100%, you set the screen, the time, you get a peek at the home screen (lookin pretty plain there) only to be told to wait 3 seconds. A couple things run get a little progress indicator and the thing reboots.
Now your home screen is looking different. Couple plugins enabled, others disabled. Been scouring XDA regarding this and only found scant references here or there about setting your thing up to install cabs off an SD card. I'm looking for something more in the neighborhood of having different plugins enabled, possibly settings too.
Anywho if you know of where I can get some reading in about this type of stuff, lemme know.
It's the built-in autorun. There are also many different third party alternatives. A few are in SuperJustKitchen v0.7.
Besides that, I'm trying to decide if this is offtopic or not... Technically it has to do with cooking....

hehe i'm walking a fine there...
I was wondering who were those guys and what are they doing in my kitchen? Autorun, check autorun, and run cc From what I gathered about those programs is that runcc is like autorun but newer. My guess in using them is setting up some sort of txt file and pointing runcc or autorun to it.
If so what can I put in that txt file, coz I know i can't write something like "uh... dood, I don't want titanium enabled, I want this one enabled with this setting and that setting ticked... and while you're at it can you fiddle with that one over there, and lets throw some cabs on there shall we? they're over here..... you're not done yet, now I want you to monkey with the settings like so... alright now get the hell out of my office!"
If I could I would...
Whatever information you can point me over to would be cool.
Thanks

RunCC is meant as a replacement for Autorun. Autorun just requires a text file while RunCC requires a Lua that points to a text file.
There are a few walkthroughs but nothing concrete on how to create a good autorun file.
Some of the commands are:
The lock screen command (I forget what it is)
EXEC: (Execute the following)
CAB: (Install the following cab)
CPY1: (Copy from this)
CPY2: (Paste to this)
RST: (reset the phone)
In the older Autoruns, to set a theme you'd use:
EXE: along with a program that set the theme
In the newer Autoruns, you can just set it with:
TSK: \Windows\theme.tsk
Unfortunately, neither works with WM6.5.1 so you have to set the theme with an EXT with many files and registry keys.
There are a few other autorun apps that people in xda have made that can do more, like be able to run your own custom config from your SD card if you want every ROM to have certain things automatically configured (as long as all the ROMs support the particular auto-configuration utility you have configured for.)
To tell you the truth, I never bothered much with Autorun unless I had to replace a file that needed to be one version for the rom to load the first time and another after the first time set up was done. Realistically, you can do almost everything with a simple EXT package.

I was thinking the very same thing. Something's telling me that I need to try out that "Create Ext" button. Maybe throw whatever reg keys I want played with in that file? That would be more simpler than creating an auto run thingie. Hmmm... if that is the case I guess I would to just need to know how to tinker with my home screen and settings from the registry.

The easiest way to learn is to take a CAB that does something you like and converting into a EXT and looking at the registry settings it creates.

That definitely helps, as well as using a reg editor to find out what has been done after installing a program then exporting the key to throw in the app.reg file. The real fun part was tracking down basic settings for things like button settings, today items (and their settings), and default theme (boy was that a blast!) Thanks again for clearing up the confusion
I've seen countless threads on these 2 errors, but I just found something intriguing on my android device.
This one is a Measy U1A android stick (the ones that you connect to your TV via HDMI). A truly nice piece of hardware, but it seems to have some issues.
Since day 1 I can't install apps most of the time. Yes, *most* of the time. 80% I get the "Invalid Package file" error, another 10% of the time I get a "Package was not signed correctly", but curiously enough, a 10% of the time the packages go through and install correctly.
Of course, this gets on my nerves.
Now, I'd really want to know what's going on and I'd love some help from the true Android experts.
This is what I've already done:
Got a Log Viewer to see what was going on.
At first it said that was an error downloading (more on this later)
Then other times it said that there was no signature for X or Y file INSIDE the apk file (I remember some libraries, I was trying to install netflix on my tests)
So, I tried to tackle the download error by checking the space (df), I found that /data had few space remaining, so I cleared stuff from it. Now I have 308Mb free, more than enough to download Netflix (14Mb download). I'm talking about /data since I found out that the downloadfile-x.apk files get downloaded to /data/data/com.android.providers/downloads/cache
Tried again, nothing. Ok, so I thought that maybe there was some weird error in the /data partition. I created a directory on the sdcard portion of the stick and linked it (ln -s). Same issues. I created a directory on my external sd card and liked to it, and the same.
Now, for the weird part, and this is where I'd love some insight:
Out of 5 downloads, ES File Explorer got installed correctly, and I got a bunch of EQUALLY SIZED downloadfile-x.apk files on that directory, but NONE OF THEM HAS THE SAME MD5 SUM. Weird? Yep, but that could only mean 3 things: Either there's a problem with my wifi/network stack, or the /data, /sdcard, /mnt/extsd partitions ALL have errors in them. The 3rd option is that Perhaps Google signs every download with a different salt and that's the reason they are all different. But I DON'T THINK THE 3rd OPTION IS LOGICAL OR PRACTICAL.
Now, I don't have access to recovery here... well, I haven't tried but there's no obvious option, perhaps CWM but I don't want to risk it too much since it ran Ubuntu for a while and now that won't boot (that's another topic, unable to debug it since I can't see anything on the screen until it boots).
I've already tried:
1. Deleting Play Cache and Data, rebooting
2. Deleting Play and installing it again (it took several tries because of the same issue)
3. Factory Default and logging to my google account again
4. FIRMWARE UPGRADE (yes, I found a new firmware, it seems faster and more stable, but I still have that issue).
Now, I haven't found a memory checker or a "nand" (as you call it) checker on the app market, do these apps exist? I'd love to rule this out.
Thanks if anyone has another option, as I said, I'm out of them. The funny thing is that once the apps are installed THEY WORK FINE!!!!
Please help, I just can't spend 15 minutes to install each app that I want
I know my way around Linux, so don't be afraid to suggest crazy things :fingers-crossed:

Mexico City here.
I found a firmware update, it makes the homepage icons bigger, changes the boot screen and overall feels faster. But I still have the same error.
As for the remote control, I found a vnc server that can be run on the dongle, and any vnc viewer can be used to control it.
I got a Rikkomagic III (not S, silly me), and let me say, that thing kicks the U1A over the window, performance is great but it has no bluetooth.
I'll keep trying to find a solution for my issue, as the Rikkomagic works fine.
