Weird one here, 'cause I can't seem to figure out what could be wrong.
I have owned 3 WinMo devices over the last few (many, I'm very careful) years but something has been bugging me with all devices; WM2003, WM5, last one WM6.1 recently upgraded via official T-Mo Rom to WM6.5.
* Multitasking has always been a problem, usually could only run few progs until an app closed itself (without warning) or I got low mem message
* Sometime running a single app, nothing else, even the single app like for instance Opera or Skyfire (while viewing a light site) browser would suddenly be gone (while browsing, or when turning on TP2 from standby).
I had the above with ALL my WinMo phones, all the above mentions OS. From almost fresh out of the box till using a device for more then 2 years. I thought it was just me, or that this was just something WinMo does standard and I would just have to get used to it. But since viewing vids on YouTube of for instance someone showing of his new TP2 while having about 10 heavy apps open in his taskmanager and then even showing Terminator 4 on high quality in CorePlayer. I thought *damn?* I didn't even see a bit of extra lag on his device?
Through Advanced Config i turned off the automatic closing of apps when mem usage is high, thought this would solve it; no dice...
Then I started thinking maybe it is an app I installed on every device so far. This is not really the case, although I do almost always install SPB Pocket Plus, and then via Pocket Plus menu uninstall almost all tools except the task bar battery indicator which I found handy, but this simple thing couldn't be causing all this on all different devices right? And every app I ever install I always check for a newer version before installing, or redownload software instal packs when something (like moving / copying, etc) could have damaged the install pack.
On my TP2, it's been getting more and more recent that most apps are just suddenly "gone" while doing nothing spectacular (just TaskMan all the time to check mem and almost never run multiple apps anymore simply trying to prevent that one app disappearing).
Is there a way to get a log file or something to be able to see what is causing all this, cause today was getting to be a "last straw"; both my Opera and SkyFire closes about 20 times in one hour, switched to Pocket IE... And again gone. Sometimes almost immediately, sometimes after using a few minutes. Actually one of the few apps that keeps itself (almost annoyingly) present and never shuts down is PockeTwitter which I started recently, nearly everything else (including standard ROM WinMo software like HTC Album and more) disappear when they feel like it.
Help help... It's like a curse following me...
Ps. To prevent dumb answers: I'm fairly smart with PC's and windows; I used to work in the IT business. So I do indeed know (a bit ) what I'm talking about. I can help other people with their PC and phone trouble; but this is just driving me crazy since there's no error message, nothing to help me figure out what's been bugging me al these years with WinMo.
I would say install a custom rom and then see how things go. My touch HD was a really annoying phone to begin with with all sorts of little bugs but after installing various custom roms nearly everything is ok.
(my phone does sometimes black screen and it needs the reset button to fix- only happens after 5 or more days without reseting)
Hey guys,
So basically I do have a hell of a lot of apps and stuff install, and I was wondering, what's a decent about of time for HTC Sense to finish loading?
It take probably 3 mins from when I press the power button to when I can start moving around on the phone.
Is there a way to maybe decrease the time spent on the splash screen (not the animated one, I have a a cool gif and sound for that, but for the screen that follows)
I don't particularly mind that much coz at the end of the day its just 3/4 mins and then I'm on my way but I've been in such a tweaking mood the past few weeks with my HD2 I just keep wanting to make it perfect!
I noticed when I upgraded from Energy's 9th may to 13th may with the same maybe a few more mods installed, the duration of the "launching HTC Sense" has gone down by a minute or so.
Oh and also, I have extensvely checked the forums around for this but it seems all there is, is changing the ink shortcuts but that's not what I want. When I press the end end, it coz up with the quicklist, then I have to click turn off and then the slidetoshutdown comes up. I want to go straight to the sidetoshutdown screen and skip the quick list. I've tried changing the end key in settings>personal>buttons but still nothing
EDIT 19/5/10:
Seems to have found a fix, deleted all my emails and sense now loads in 20 seconds or so. My emails and messages are stored on my SD card via relocation in Pocket Mechanic, maybe keeping them on the device resolves the issue, haven't tested.
Bump please
Sometimes it jungs hangs. Touch the screen if it gets stuck and it should come back just fine.
There's no need to wait until it remembers where it's supposed to be.
It doesn't hang randomly at all, it's just takes a longish time to load when i start up my phone
Maybe have a look in \Windows\Startup\ Maybe with so many installed apps and games this folder is full of shortcuts to let the apps start on startup for quicker access. Cleaning some out of heren maybe makes the phone faster. good luck!
Fair enough, you don't mind the wait, and I understand (it's not as if you restart your phone every 10 minutes!)
But, there's definitely something doing something. I've got plenty of software on mine, and from power off and pressing the power button, right up to a completely loaded and stutter-free Sense, it takes just over a minute (I just timed it at 1:02).
For the end key leading to the slide to shutdown automatically, search the energy thread, I honestly can't remember exactly where it was, but a member posted a fix for it...the same guy that posted the Home button fix, the music player, etc.
Same here.
It's Sense that takes a huge time to completely load. Appears quickly, but veeeery slow and laggy for one or two minutes. Same when i only relaunch Sense, not only after a reboot.
Don't have much in the startup folder, a lot of tabs deactivated (music, docs, footprints, ebboks, twitter, facebook etc), but still...
And even after a fresh flash - with different roms from different cooks.
It does that too when i unplug the phone from a usb connection with my computer - but not if it was connected in activesync mode.
--edit--
just thought of something while typing this. i tried with no sc-card in: way way much faster.
so basically, Sense is scanning my whole 16gb card when it starts?...
Wow I actually cracked it,
I spent like a good hour or so experimenting around with everything possible from apps, to addons to random registry fixes I made. NONE of them did anything.
My sense now loads in 20 seconds flat.
How?
I deleted all my emails... lol
I think it is an SC card issue, because basically I have all me emails and messages stored onto my SD card (made the relocation via pocket mechanic)
Everytime I reflashed new roms, I install me apps games and whatever first, restart and its fine. I import my PIM backup stuff last and then it goes slow, I never really picked up on it because I'm usually finding other random cabs I forgot to install and add them at the same time, leading me to think its those that slow it down. But no, its all the emails, which I suppose makes sense seeing I have a couple of thousand stored.
Hopefully this will work for you guys, move/delete you emails from your SD card! Or it could well be an SD card issue in general.
I have no idea what's going on here... a few days back I noticed when I put my phone down, and picked it back up maybe less than a minute later, Google contacts would be open that I hadn't opened (specifically often to one person -- who I know is totally computer illiterate), or Google Search app was open... a few times if I'd left my web bowers open when I'd unlock my phone weird Google searches would be new tabs on my phone. I forgot about it for a few days because nothing strange happened.
To night took the cake... I put my phone down and a few minutes later heard a noise from it. I don't know what the weird noise was, but I checked my phone (it had been on silent!). I looked at it and about 5 tabs were open on my phone. One for Xbox 720 (I think this has been the random search result on more than on occasion), one for some actress I'd never heard of, some random other stuff... all on my Dolphin HD web browser listed on as a search on Google (no websites actually opened) ... a few of them when I pressed the back button actually had a page or two previous of weird searches. ALL OF THEM, the first Google page lead back to was a search for remote desktop protocol. Which... really, why would someone be searching that on Google if that's what they're doing on my phone (and on every tab they've opened)? This is really weird.
Another thing I notice is when I check the marketplace after this, the Go keyboards voice program is the last thing viewed (not installed). I've never viewed this on my own.
Currently, I've turned off my 3G... and actually, it still seemed to be working even unchecked, so I went in airplane mode. Ok, and even IN airplane mode, I just opened my phone and Dolphin web browser has like 10 web pages open but not loaded, and my Google Search was also open... and in its history has type Xbox 720. Uh... I've never used Google Search app before. Also my emoji side of the keyboard was activated.
I'm using LG G2X, rooted, flashed Weapon. Never any problems like this until very recently. The only recent apps I've downloaded (only about 3 in the last month) are all highly reviewed with thousands of downloads... I don't download random stuff onto my phone either.
Everything seems related to Google Search app, emoji, or the Go keyboard, along with trying to automatically search the same Google-related stuff on my web browsers. I don't get it.
How do I STOP this (hopefully without resetting the phone)? It's really unsettling.
remove dolphin hd ....
its probably a bug since remote handling a phone requires atleast a net connection

The Dolphin browser hasn't been updated pretty much... ever. So I don't understand how it would be the problem, it's the same as ever. I don't have apps automatically update. Do you really think it's the web browser? Isn't it odd that it was fine as my main browser for like a year and then went crazy? Plus it was fine for about 24 hours and then went all weird for like 30 minutes straight.
The weird noise I mentioned that got me to look at the phone was really freaky too, it sounded like a high pitched child's laugh, only lasting about a second...
I use AVG. I scanned my phone after this... it mentioned malware in an app I've had forever (some word search game) so I deleted it. That was it.
Also, while maybe unrelated as I don't always go into my settings, I felt some things were checked/unchecked that I wouldn't have had... like "view keys" when typing out passwords and I had "use wireless" and "use GSP satellites" (battery drainer unless needed, right?)...
Anyway, I've just used AVG and deleted just about every app I don't use.
But I can't delete Google Search, and it seems to be the weird one. When I press back after all this weird stuff, it often leads to Google Search, and it has its drop box open, and the only two things searched for are Xbox 720 and n. Just the letter n. I've never ever searched for either of these things.
I'd suggest you disable Go keyboard (preferably remove it for now). See if there is any issues from that point onwards.
It sounds like your phone might be possessed. You might take it to your local church.
All kidding aside, why not format /scard and restore from backup or flash a new ROM?

I have just disabled the keyboard... but while checking running services on the AVG and closing what I didn't want, I also checked in settings under running applications... I noticed I had two Android systems running... which, I'm pretty sure shouldn't be happening?
One of them had been up for 30-something hours, the other only 6. About the time everything happened, I'd say. It says it was started by VpnServiceBinder (no idea what or where that is) and that the process is called com.android.server.vpn:remote
Two Google Maps were also running for the same lengths of time.
I ended to process on both of the 6 hour ones, without any any system failures...
So... yes... help?
I don't want to restore the phone, seems like a LOT of work... I'm not that tech savvy, either.
Okay. You should do this: root your phone, install App Quarantine and give it SU permissions. Then freeze all apps that are not system apps, Install an antivirus (I like Avast), then start enabling them one by one as you give them some time in between to check for one when enabled causes the 'seizures' and off course you have your culprit.
Otherwise, flash your phone with a custom ROM. There are many detailed guides here on XDA. Good luck with that.

The happens sometimes, it's a really random and rare bug. After a reboot there should be only one process. But the vpn remote is not a good sign. The best would be to start with a clean system, but if it's a lot of work for you, you could backup your stuff (only what's really needed) reflash the rom and back up the essential parts and hope.

Do you have some sort of voice activation program going? This happened to me way back when windows xp was new. I'd be sitting at the computer talking to friends while jibberish would appear in Google search. Freaked me out.

Well, I'm back to say it's still going on. Usually, only at night, like 1-2 AM. Not every night, but sometimes back to back nights. The things it does don't seem like what an actual person might do.
Three nights ago I turned my phone on and instead of getting the lock screen I got the app that plays songs and it was blaring a song in my face. The next night, the same song just started playing, super loud despite silence being on, all by itself a few minutes after I put the phone down. Did I mention the freaky things usually start pretty soon after I put the phone down at night? Last night I heard the sound of a button on my phone dial being pressed (but there was no number actually pressed). When I long pressed my phone after this to see what's running I've got (none of this I opened):Google Search (always without fail this is open; it no longer has typed anything into the search though, it's just open), Phone (pretty much always open too), Apps 2 SD (this isn't normally open), Android keyboard settings (nothing looks different), Settings, Bag It (that stupid little game), and Dolphin web browser (last night it had a new tab open and nothing typed in it, the night before it had randomly looked up an acronym and I'm not sure what it stood for.
To answer a few of the previous questions:
I don't have a voice system opening, and when this stuff happens it's dead quiet... and I don't have wifi on because it drains the battery.
I suppose I may have to reflash my phone or something, which to me is almost more trouble than it's worth especially since I don't know if it'll help... as far as I know I've removed pretty much everything now, and anything left I've had for ages without issue until rather suddenly a few months back... and still am having problems, but it doesn't seem like anyone here really knows what's going on. I've never heard anyone mention things like this online.
Am I the only one ever with a "possessed" phone?
I think I'm just going to turn my phone off at night. What a hassle.

Try to get an adb bugcheck, then analyse it with the Sony automatic analyser that pal szasz made.
I agree with the guys who says its haunted.
Get a priest to perform a exorcism on it! Kind of freaky, but i would perform a clean rom install also.
I would negotiate with it. If that dosent work then search the filesystem for freaky stuff. If that dosent work then do a factory reset. If that dosent work then flash a new ROM. If that dosent work then get a new phone and get rid of the old one for good!
And if your new phone does the same thing, or, your old one comes back to haunt you then you have three options:
1) Deal with it. You're efforts are without meaning. Someone or something is terribly wrong, and it is way beyond your reach.
2) If you try to show someone (who you dont really know, and it wont act up when they are around) then go see a doctor, or phycologist. Someone might still be messing with you though (problably a good hacker, or person you spend alot of time with, most likley smart too).
3) If people know it, and, you are %100 sure nobody is trying to screw with your head then you, or, your phone is cursed. Go see a prophet, pastor, bishop, etc. Just not anyone who is anti-relegious, becuse they will just make it worse :/
Please thank if this helped you, or, found it comical in any way.
I'd just re flash stock. Will take only a few minutes - hardly any trouble. Even backing things up you're looking at less than an hour. No reason not to.

How doi i stop it and get my phone back so it is just me useing it
My phone is doing the same thing. The bad part is that I have the LG XStyle which hasn't been able to be rooted yet. What do you guys think my options would be being I can't root phone. I also have noticed that if I start trying to work it out if I type in certain key words it kicks me offline. If you guys got any ideas it would be appreciated.
All,
First time poster, frequent visitor of XDA Forums. I've come across an odd issue that I don't know how to solve and I'm hoping some of you smarter than me folks can get me squared away.
I have a Galaxy S8+ from AT&T running Android 7.0 and Samsung Experience 8.1.
Problem:
I've recently noticed a delay or completely non-updating interface on my phone. It updates on occasion, but I can't determine what triggers an update. For example, I will pick up my phone from the desk and when I press the power button it shows the accurate time. When I unlock the device, the sense flip clock I use on the main home screen shows an earlier time (could be 30 minutes... could be a few hours). I don't believe it's just the Sense app because I noticed this issue where I checked a facebook messenger app that came and and when I closed the app, it still showed I had 1 notification. I went back in thinking I had another new message, but I didn't. So it was still hanging on to the notification. It happened a couple times with a text message as well. Most importantly, my calendar doesn't alert me prior to an appointment either, even though it's showing in my calendar and an alert is active. If I save an event, and exit, I can normally see the event appear on the on widget immediately as well... but that hasn't been happening. I have to press the widget to open it and confirm it is there (which it always is). Eventually it refreshes and shows up. But that delay is likely the reason why I'm not getting my alerts.
All of this did seem to happen after a recent update Samsung/AT&T pushed out but I don't know for sure. I tried clearing the cache from the boot menu but it doesn't seem there is wide success with that.
And perhaps I'm just not a good enough user, but everything isn't all backed up in the cloud so doing the factory reset to me is always a fairly large task as I have many things to manually transfer out and then back in. Not sure if there are great tools that help with this on a stock phone.
BUMP
try disabling battery optimization for those apps.
It seems that you have several bugs and if they all start happening after you have installed the latest update, then expect a patch coming soon.

I have actually done that. Found very limited success. I'm also finding very few results on this topic. Surely it's not just me though.
And I'm dreading the idea of a hard reset as I have many things on my phones, not all of which is sync'd to the cloud so it's a task to back things up appropriate. Specifically regarding "encrypted" apps like my password keeper app etc.
It would be great if there was a software application that allowed you to backup whatever is necessary to not lose data, then wipe the phone and instead of just simply restoring the full phone (which is likely to create the same problem one had before the hard reset), you could simply dump back in app data as needed. It would also help diagnose if the problem lies in a specific app's data.
High level overview of issues...
I have the Ring Doorbell app. I get notifications after "live". Could be 5 minutes, could be 1 hour... or possibly not at all. I have the app setup on my wife's iPhone and she gets them immediately. If I restart the phone, I will get notified right away (it's like it runs the app again and then I get the notification). Keep in mind, this is AFTER i disabled the battery optimization feature for the Ring app.
I also notice it occasionally with texting. I won't have any text notification in the notification panel, nor will my messaging icon have a little red circle indicating a message is there. But if I open the app, a specification conversation will have a red circle indicating a new text is unread.
All of this is leading me to believe the Samsung UI itself is not updating and therefore notifications that actually have arrived (from whatever app), are not displaying because of the UI and not because of their own delay.
Because of this concern I have turned off battery optimization for "System UI", "Themes", and "TouchWiz Home". I have not seen any change however.
[Solved]
I was able to determine by various other threads around the web (thought for sure I'd find it here, but I didn't) that the culprit might be the Google app. Supposedly it was fixed in some prior release, but it's not on my Galaxy S8+ w/ AT&T.
Once I disabled the Google app all the odd issues with notifications and clock interfaces and app icons not updating went away. The downside to disabling it is that I lose the Google Assistant functionality which stinks but otherwise there is no impact to using the phone. I re-enabled it at a later date and it worked fine for a few days and then started acting up again. Once I disabled it, the problems all disappeared. Clearly Google app is to blame.
Hello, for example, when I switch from a game to the browser for a few minutes, when I come back to the game it restarts completely, right now the only solution I found to this is to switch back to it regularly to keep it open, which is annoying and ridiculous. I tried dev option to allow 4 background apps, it didn't work, I did read about battery optimization but my phone is only on android 4.1.2 with no way to upgrade it so I don't have this option.
So, is there some app or modification I can do to avoid this ? If it's the only solution, it would even be fine if some autohotkey-like script would automatically switch back and forth to it as a hotfix.
turn off battery optimization
Unfortunately it's not present in android 4 unless I'm mistaken.
If anyone have the same issue here is a workaround I found: I stop absolutely everything, adblock, music player, onedrive (which I even force stop so it doesn't reopen itself half an hour later), even a tiny app that just forces the phone to stay in landscape mode, and I never switch off the screen and avoid to press the home key, this way I have exactly one current and one background app that stay open.
