Getting major battery drain. I know its not the rom im running as ive read people getting 15 hours+ on tweak stock . So im thinking this has to be app related. Only problem is I've read spare parts doesn't work on gingerbread. I need to view partial wake usuage. Any ideas fellas? I want to track down whats causing this.

Why do you need spare parts to view battery stats? What is wrong with going to settings/about phone/battery use?
I want to see whats running while phone is sleeping

If you are using your phone about half of the time it is on, then that is your problem.
If not, then you have a rogue app that is running in the background and actively using the cpu, preventing it from sleeping and destroying your battery life. The best bet would be to back up your apps and then go to your favorite task killer (not the stock one) (i like the running tab of go launcher's app drawer). Don't auto kill, but uninstall apps that are always running that you suspect are draining your battery. Common culprits are games with notifications and social apps. Also look for something you recently installed, starting from when you noticed the battery problem.

What percent of your battery is being used by the screen (settings -> about phone -> battery use)? If it is high then your battery life is normal for your usage.
I get full bars at all times in my area. Gps is always off unless I use navi. Downloaded better battery stats. Not showing any apps acting up. Going to try a battery calibration.

How many power cycles have you gone through since flashing? Did you odin or CWM flash? Did you do a data wipe before flashing, and were you (relatively) fully charged at the time of flashing? Just as some food for thought - In my experience it seems that sometimes things take a bit of time to settle battery-wise after flashing.
Use this app to figure out what's keeping your phone from sleeping.

Go to the first page, there is a free xda version for download.
Reflashed at 100% thru CWM and drained down battery after deleting batterystats.bin. Charged it back up so far no drain. Usually as soon as I take it off charge it will drop to 99 within 5 minutes. Gonna give it some more cycles. Thanks.for all your input guys.

Spare parts does work- download it from the Market. Something I have found is that if you have a ROM that usually doesn't drain battery life but now yours is, then back up everything and wipe it all and start over carefully adding to it and monitoring it. I run InfinityROM and was getting great battery life and two days ago it seemed to get worse. Not sure exactly what I did, but I reflashed it and started with one thing at a time. ICS Fugu tweak, then V6 Supercharger and so on. Today I am still running it and its not dead. Yesterday it was dead in 3 hours. Hope this helps.

Hi. I have an extended battery but it doesn't last long at all. I used better battery stats and I noticed I have tons of wakelocks from things like "Alarm Manager" (2822 wakelocks), "keyguardWakeAndHandOff" (2363 wakelocks), "SCREEN_FROZEN" (2333), "sleep_broadcast" (2307), "ActivityManager-Launch" (2224), "LocationManagerService" (2154), "LocationManagerService" (2154), and "RILJ" (451).
With the exception of RILJ, they all fall under the category of "Android System", and RILJ falls under "dialer".
Honestly I have no idea what any of these names refer to. Betterbatterystats doesn't give you any options to disable or freeze these processes. Googling them leads to unanswered or incomplete threads. The creator of BBS tells someone who asked about "RILJ" to "search the thread". Except there's *nothing in the godawful thread*. I searched every one of those stupid piece of garbage 150+ pages (now it's at 250+). Someone late in the thread mentioned he did the same as well, and the app creator says "just google it". Well I tried, and it didn't help. No solution comes up. Thanks bud.
I've also used "Battery Monitor Widget" to determine mA drain during sleep, and I'm getting anywhere between 20-150 mA. Only once did I get 2 mA. Nowadays sometimes it sleeps at 20-50 mA, other times it's above 100. Sometimes it fluctuates. It's ridiculous.
I've tried infinity, Tweakstock, OTA stock rooted/non-rooted, and now I'm back on Infinity again. It's quite disheartening. Without the extended battery this phone would be little better than a paperweight.
Worst of all is when I look at my mom's iPhone, and see how it doesn't even need to be charged for several days. Granted my mom hardly uses it, but standby is perfect on the device. My battery is almost as big my mom's phone, and yet hers lasts longer. Sigh.
What's most frustrating IMO is that Google doesn't acknowledge any of this. Even on ICS GNEX users seem to have similar problems. It reminds me of the text resizing issue on Chrome. They just ignore everyone who complains about it.
The iphone inherently has better battery life because there is no multitasking. When you back out of an app, it freezes it, so there can't be any apps running in the background.

I've read some about iOS 5's multitasking, and it's not that simple. iOS limits programs that would like to run in the background with the Background API... very specific processes that iOS deems worthy of running incessantly in the background. Everything else can request 10 minutes of runtime, after which iOS forcibly shuts them down.
Google gives developers far more freedom, but with ICS they've enabled a "destroy every activity" option that limits background processes if you leave the program. In other words until ICS "stopping" a program might not actually stop a misbehaving program. This is obviously a problem because a lot of developers are terrible at managing battery life. It's not just the manufacturers and carriers with their ugly bloatware... Google themselves is guilty of this (I'm looking at you Google Maps).
You'd think Android would give users the option to enable an iOS-like environment to manage their battery life, but iOS is written in a way that the OS doesn't go bonkers when it forcibly suspends greedy programs. So instead on ICS all of that babysitting is left to us users rather than the OS.
On Gingerbread it personally feels more like constructing a building out of individual atoms.
One day I'm sure Google will get it right and I'll be able to wave my phone at an iPhone user and give off a Simpsons-like "Ha ha!" But not yet.
Try xda power user..great way to tweak phone settings.

Right now I'm running H57 with JT's 4/15 voodoo kernel. For the past few weeks my battery life has been miserable. I've tried several different Kernels, wiping, data, cache, dalvick cache, and battery stats. Ever since the bad battery life, I've noticed that the Android OS is consuming much larger battery percents than it used to 30-50%. It used to stay around 5% or less. Also I been using CPU spy for a couple weeks. My CPU seems to spend almost all of its time at 800 Mhz for some reason. It will not power down to 100 Mhz even if I turn it on and leave it in my pocket for a few hours. Today i've burned 80% of my battery in 5 hrs while it sat in my pocket during an exam. Any advice on what I can do or check to see what exactly the problem is?
Im not quite sure what the issue could be but I can suggest a program called osmonitor that might help you narrow down what rogue process is eating away. i recently just upgraded from 2.1 to 2.2 as well. I am running JTs 4.15 voodoo kernel. My battery seems about the same so far as 2.1, maybe something with H57 ?
Yeah, I can try another rom. It was happening prior to H57 though. I've been on 2.2 for a while now. 2.2 was running great at first. It happened while on PNP. At first it was amazing on battery. I don't remember changing anything specific to ruin my battery life. To the best of my knowledge it occurred after flashing OTB on PNP. I'll download osmonitor and see what i can find. Thanks.
I'm pretty much stock / rooted w voodoo and about same as eclair check the misc section in osmonitor for cpu scaling

That is likely why your battery life sucks. The phones is constantly trying to find a better signal. Also, USCC doesn't always enforce this but they do have a clause in the contract that they can shut down your line for using it more than 50% of the time outside of their network. Just something to keep in mind.
Yeah, I've heard that, but I've had uscc up here for 3 years now. It used to be fine up here. I've had it in raleigh for 6 months and it just start acting up about 2 or 3 weeks ago.

And the answer is no. I charged the phone over night. Left to fish at 5:30 this morning. Unplugged the phone and turned it on when I left, turned off tasker just to be sure that wasn't causing the issue, and left the phone on the table at home. Back at 3:30, phone at 35% not even using it. I can't find anything using osmonitor. When I look at it, osmonotor is usually using the largest amount of resources.

Battery life is not something people can fix for you, there are too many factors that affect it, u just need to troubleshoot. I've had various results with different roms but typically it is your usage and the apps on your phone that are culprit
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA Premium App
I completely understand that. That's why I spent a couple weeks troubleshooting to try and find out what the problem was. Like I said I can leave the phone on all day and never use it and the battery still sucks, so It's not usage. I can not find any apps that are consuming much battery. The only thing I changed between good battery and bad is from JT's voodoo kernel to OTB. Android OS and System began to use 60% of the battery and a 5 minute phone call will burn 5-10 %. I said that sucks, switched back to JT's kernel problem still persists trying different roms and kernels. That's why I posted this to see if something could have been messed up when flashing to OTB.
Hey all, quick question hopefully you all can help me out with. I am currently having terrible battery issues ever since I flashed my phone initially. Terrible as in 6 hours stand-by my phone would be dead.
Anyhow, I am just trying to figure out who's (which) kernel I am running. The kernel version is 2.6.35.7-I997RUXKG3-CL366622 . I have done searches but biggest problem is, threads usually do not post the version number for me to check what I am running.
I am on Infused 2.1.0 (thx GTG!), but battery life has been garbage on all ROMs so I am certain that is not the issue. Can anyone let me know, me love you long time.

Problem is I bought 2 extra batteries and get exact same life. When I initially bought the phone I would get a days use surprisingly. After that, I have had nothing but god awful drain. I have had almost a dozen android phones and have never encountered such terrible battery life.
I do not have fetch data enabled/gps/widget updates or anything that would normally keep the processor/data churning while in my pocket. Battery use is usually around 40-80% on display, all other categories being minimal (which seems correct).

1% per 3 hours standby is FREAKING AWESOME..!!!!
Maybe u have some stray app in the background that's using CPU/whatever it is that's eating up ur battery.
Some subtle things u cud try since u said display is taking up 40-80% of battery:
1. Turning off screen auto rotation, turning it on when needed
2. Turning off auto brightness, turning it on to auto when needed
Use SetCPU like people above pointed out and this would let u see what processor states ur phone is spending most time in.
It sounds like for some people, Infusion 1.1 really flakes out. No clue why. I don't overclock so I don't run it.
It's either Infusion 1.1 flaked out, or if you continue having problems with other kernels, you have a rogue app.
Kernels rarely make any significant difference in battery life unless they're broken.

Running Infusion-GB 1.1 and Infused 2.1.0: I get 1% drain every 3 hours on standby with radio on (reasonable H+ reception) and 1% every 6 hours on flight mode.
It's most likely a defect in your phone or a configuration issue. You really have to be using your phone for at least 4 or 5 hours (screen-on time) over those 6 hours to cut through battery that fast.

when you go to settings > applications > running services - is there anything there that looks like it shouldn't be there?
i know that there is a process that starts with an "o" that is tied into media hub's protected content (DRM) - eats a ton of battery, and isn't really necessary.
it's also possible that you have the SNS service going, but constantly in a restarting state. this seemed to eat a lot of battery also.
otherwise, i'd do what others have suggested and monitor with CPU spy, and i'd also suggest an app called Better Battery Stats (not available in the market - find it here on XDA by a developer named chamonix). this will let you know if you have any wakelocks that are preventing your phone from reaching deep sleep when it is idle.
definitely sounds like you could have a wakelock or 2 interfering with your phone trying to get into those lower frequencies.

Packets in/out isn't what you want unless you also have unusual data usage too. It's wakelock stats you want - look at the BetterBatteryStats app. It used to be only on XDA but apparently it's on the market now.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again - Wiping battery stats does NOTHING on our phone. Don't go blindly telling people to do something on our devices just because it worked on another device. The fuel gauge chip on GalaxyS series phones works in a very different way than HTC phones. (Exception: I think the GSII has a more traditional fuel gauge.)

There are numerous ways to increase battery life. Firstly, you(Android) do not need battery apps and task managers/killers.
Secondly, try this.

any other tips how to save battery longer??
Any further tips after a new kernel and rom would be cutting on the use of the phone and are therefore meh. I want to use the phone, not use it less.
So Trinity is better than Netarchy???, what about Pete #5 which is built in Formels MIUI, so far this is the best Rom I have tried on my NS, stable and fast+good battery compared to the others, also I have my phone OC at 1.2G via Setcpu.
Set wifi sleep policy to never.
Turn off auto brightness
Turn off sync and just refresh your gmail manually when you need to and refresh your contacts from time to time. You still get app updates from the market with sync turned off.
Go through all your apps that update regularly (facespace, twitter etc.) and reduce the sync frequency to something that is acceptable for you. I don't need my twitter updating every 15 minutes and can just manually sync whenever I want.
EDIT: Turn off NFC.
... and buy one or two of these: http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-1440m...TUEW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1316132022&sr=8-1
Make sure to condition them properly - it really makes a difference.
Wifi Sleep Policy to never fixed alot of my battery issues
Turning off NFC will do nothing as NFC does only consume power (like GPS) when used.

PROTIP: Stop using the phone so much. None of these tips are going to do squat if you're using the screen and wifi/3G all day.
Trust me on this. I easily get 12+ hours of use with battery to spare (usually around 30-40%) with the following usage:
NOTE: Matr1x Kernel with the stock undervolting settings, and TSM Pool Party ROM running on top.
The screen is on (a little over 1/4 brightness) with wifi/3g blasting, surfing bright white web pages for about 2-3 hours total. I may play 30 minutes of Furious Neornithes D), screw around on the market for a few minutes, check FB updates, etc. I also probably take/make about 10 short phone calls and send/receive about 50 texts. The remaining time, the phone sits in standby.
Not bad, considering the phone is beefier than most home computers from 10 years ago. Also worth noting: The battery scale isn't the most accurate thing in the world. Battery percentage drops off sharply up until about 60%, where it seems to level off.
So what's the best kernel to use???, Trinity or Trinity UV?, Netarchy?, Matrix?, is not only about the battery but also stability, doesn't matter if u can make ur phone last forever if u can't use BT while browsing cause the thing crashes so u either have to use one or the other.
As this is the save battery thread, there's only one answer: lowest voltage trinity kernel.

Have one of these, rooted, stock rom on Rogers (LTE).
The battery life seems inconsistent... Some days it seems fine but days like today with 11 hours off the charger, with the two highest battery culprits being android OS (46%) and android system (16%) the battery life is already at 26%.
Other days when its on my desk it uses nowhere near as much...

But seriously though, post this in q&a as you will not get reamed in the ___.
Answer: try one of the roms in this forum since that is what this forum is for, roms and development and such. They should be your answer since your current rom is filled with BS that sucks battery away my friend

If you are rooted and not afraid of flashing ROMs than get BeastMOD ROM. The name says it all. I m heavy user and i go for a day with full charge.

You talking about the TMo version? I did a search and I cant find a Skyrocket or Rogers version of a BeastMOD ROM.
BTW I get have been getting 34-37 hrs @ 20-15% on the BoneSTOCKeteer-v1.0 ROM with med to light use. Your mileage may vary, but stock ROM only lasted a day with the same use.
edit: the more you play with/use your phone the faster the battery is going to peter out no matter the ROM
I noticed that wifi has a big impact on battery life. I hit about 50% of battery life with it on in about 5 hours but with it off and moderate use I can get 2 days use.
Just a thought and I froze lots of the SNS syncing apps with TB. I dont use those since i use another program for FB.
I actually like the ATT Smart Wifi app. Shuts down wifi when not in use. I think the free version of Juice Defender doesn't do that.
I have now owned my 727R for 6 weeks, coming from an iphone 4. I am finding the battery life inconsistent from charge to charge and anywhere from barely adequate to downright poor. Maximum I have ever gotten was 26 hours with minimal use and minimum has been 10 hours with minimal use.
I have installed and use Juice defender, and have looked at a variety of apps such as cpu spy, cpu hound, traffic monitor. I have turned off notification as much as possible and all other tricks under the sun.
My phone does not seem to go to deep sleep often and a lot of times it shows as awake even though the screen was off for a while.
The straw that broke the camle was when I cmpared notes with my clleague who has a Galaxy S (I know, no 4g, no LTE, smaller csreen). But he is getting 90% battery life with wifi and bluetooth on after 7 hours 15 minutes (minimal use). In the same time period I am down to 60% with bluetooth off!
I am not planning on rooting the phone and using custom ROMS or Kernels right now.
What gives? What do I look at to improve battery life?
Thanks
i notice with out a lot of changes i get horrible horrible battery life. but with a custom rom like quick wiz. i turn screen down. wifi off. under clock it and use a battery saver plus task killer i get two days moderet (use

I would suggest since Roger stock rom sucks the life out of the battery to root it and use faux123 kernel and Gideon's script to under clock it. Im using at&t stock rom rooted and faux123 kernel and I haven't had a bad battery day yet.. currently 12hrs moderate use 73% still.... not bad at all. Give it a try.. its not like it could any worse lol

It looks like this isn't available for Skyrocket.
1) Does it work like it should, and does it save battery, or is the battery savings negated by other junk running with it in the background? Reviews seem very mixed.
2) If you got it on a SR, how? Would pulling the APK from another device work?

I hated my skyrocket when I first got it because the battery sucked. Never could make it through a full day of average use. I did a search, found out how to root and install a custom rom and now I love it. I can go a full day and still have 20% left. All I can recommend is rooting and at least remove bloatware. I've never seen a single skyrocket user happy with their battery life on stock. Maybe sell or trade it for another iPhone.

Hey,
Having a problem with my N5 draining my battery @ 4% / hr even when idle. According to the battery screen in settings the culprit is Android OS @ 32%.
I'm running CM M2 (stock kernel) on TMobile. I've got WiFi + Bluetooth on. NFC is off.
For comparison the phone has been on battery for 6hrs with only a few minutes screen on time and is at 61%.
Thoughts?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
Any apps draining that shouldn't be? Turn auto brightness off and keep around 30%. Screen always takes the most.... clearly. Could be fault of CM since they are nightlies and those are always a work in progress. Post in CM thread, always read previous post in that thread for battery issues.
I'm running stock ROM, and getting the same amount of battery drain as you. I'm pretty sure this is coming from wlan_rx_wake wakelocks if you have wifi on while this is draining. Though having data on doesn't help me, I just get bam_dmux_wakelocks. Try better battery stats to see what wakelocks are keeping your phone awake. I have tried everything to get wlan_rx_wake to stop, yet it hasn't. Would love if someone knew how to fix this battery drain.
Just installed better battery stats. Will report back in a few days.
I do suspect WiFi as well. I was out on LTE all day yesterday and the drain was < 1% / hr and after 12+ hrs I was at 80%.
I have geenified a lot of apps. No luck so far

Turn off bluetooth. Android OS being the main culprit means an app is keeping it awake. Also, I've bad experience (at least in my s3 days) with CM with regards to battery. Try switching ROMS and try franco kernel as well (great battery life without gimping performance)
Your coverage can have a huge impact on battery drain. At work I have poor coverage and my battery will be low by the end of the day at home its good I will have less battery drain with more usage.

I think the easiest thing to see if it's ROM related or app related is to just backup your current ROM and re-flash the ROM without anything (besides your basic absolute must need app but try and avoid if possible) and try it for a day. If you still have the battery drain, then it's the ROM, in which case, I suggest using a different ROM. I recommend Omni or Cataclysm. If not, then it might be an app burning through your battery then.
I am not able to let my phone go on for 24 hours without charging. I definitely need to charge it daily. I tried turning off the wifi and data and all background apps and services, just the android stuff is running, still can't go over 24 hours. At most is around 20 - 22 hours on standby.
I'm having same issues. On stock rom.

And I thought that getting 5.5% / h is normal (with LTE on) with syncing accounts and stuff.
Mine used to be so good. What's happened
Does the above screen shot mean anything?

Anything over 1% per hour while idling, whether wifi or lte, is unacceptable.
Post your BBS logs people. If you're going to post screenshots, at least post all of the screens. Less work for you to hand over the log.

+1 just disable feauteres you don't use. I have auto-sync enabled but I check only the very necessary syncing (gmail for me). Disable location report from google, Google now, OK Google hotword detection... And even greenify those battery killing apps (check partial wakelocks and alarms)
I have the same behavior with about 4% drain per hour screen
off idle when I use a CM nightly from about the last 10 days with bricked kernel. So I'm still with my january 07th. CM Nightly which has no drain at all.
The culprit for me is an EntriesRefresh wakelock coming from google.quicksearchbox. No idea what that is -- but it appears to be a common source of problems on KK ROMs across all devices.
i do like Google Now so I don't want to greenify that. Hopefully google will fix the app soon enough.
Anyone have any other thoughts/suggestions?

If I disable everything on my phone , maybe I can get the 1% / hour, but frankly I don't see the point.
I like google now, I like my emails syncing and getting notified about things - that's why I use a darn smartphone, otherwise I would get a "dumb" phone that idles.
How do you export all on bbs?

Google Now isn't inherently bad on battery. Are you using GEL?
I do Greenify it, but only because it has no purpose for me.

Not using Google Experience Launcher just the regular AOSP launcher, but Google Now is enabled and the search box is on my launcher (but its not voice activated.)
What is the quick search box exactly? When I went to greenify it, greenify said that it was a system app and that greenifying it could cause problems.
