Question about Opera Browser - T-Mobile LG G2x

I love Opera, but there's one big issue that I have with it. I'm a big sports junkie and I go to ESPN.com dozens of times daily, and they recently re-designed their mobile site like 6 months ago or so. Anyways, I love the re-design and is much more useful and quicker to get the info I want/need. The problem with Opera is that it still goes to ESPN's OLD mobile site which I didn't really like. Its been over 6 months now since the re-design and other 3rd party browsers access the new one. But why can't Opera go to it? And why does it use the old one? Anyways, anything would be of great help!

Just a suggestion but the ESPN app is real good, it's what I use.

Thanks for the response. Are you talking about the ScoreCenter app?

Yeah I like it better than the website. Anyway have you tried any page specific settings? I know in dolphin HD browser there is a useful addon that lets you quickly switch between desktop and mobile modes. I've never used opera but maybe something similar can be found in settings somewhere.

You have made two threads lol. One for each mobile. I am also trying to fix google page for the opera mobile.

Post no. 8 seems to help to some extent but it doesn't fix google page for Galaxy S II. Try what he instructed and who knows you might end up lucky because it worked for facebook page for me.

Yeah I've thought of something similar, but what I don't understand is why Opera can't access ESPN's new mobile site. It only accesses the old mobile site before the re-design.

"Seems like Google Page has been crossed referenced / optimized with Google Android Browser to look and work flawlessly while others browsers dont "have the source codes" to make the page appear and function in optimized state."

Go to opera mobile then settings> advanced, then change user agent from mobile to desktop. That should fix it.

But that would take away the mobile site for ESPN, which I like. It's just that with Opera I get the old mobile site, whereas any other Browser app I get the new one with is much better.

Check post no. 8 in the link I have given before. It might help you..

Facebook Woes

Probably the only complaint I have about my new phone is the lack of a 100% working Facebook experience.
The Facebook app seems to periodically just stop updating/issuing notifications for periods at a time.
TweetDeck works for awhile but then suddenly loses my settings.
Seemic doesn't automatically update/issue notifications at all plus I don't like the fact that the updates from multiple services aren't integrated in one stream like Tweetdeck does.
Not sure what other options I have at this point.
Mine seems to work fine

One of the things that worked super well for me on my old phone was "fim" but sadly, I dont think that its available for android, just winmo. Hopefully the devs decide to port it
If you go Settings->Account and Sync, is background data/auto-sync turned on?
also down where it says "Manage Accounts" make sure it's turned on also.
Yea dude mine us working fine. Check your settings?

yup and yup.
I actually have two facebook items listed here.. the first seems to be for that social updates its called Facebook SocialUpdates when I go in to its details. I have that turned off. When its turned on it generates session expired errors and when I gave it my login it won't accept the password (I've verified the pw is correct).
The other just says Facebook in its details and that is on.
edit: maybe there's another app its conflicting with... frustrating.

Are you running stock? If you're rooted, what I would try is making a back up of your apps using Titanium Backup and then uninstalling all your social networking apps that could be conflicting with it and then reinstall only facebook from the market and see if that helps. Again, that's just what I would try. Good luck
I'm running stock, but I think I'll take your advice anyway and uninstall all the social network apps... can't hurt.
I would have to agree with you, DarienA, of all three OS's, facebook for android is the worst. I mostly speak about the options available in this app version. I am a little biased as my previous phone had FB 2.0 and it was very nice, plus the push notifications were almost instant. Just my two cents on facebook for android.

OP: Type this in your url bar:
about:debug
Then hit enter.
It will look like it did nothing. But now hit menu, settings. Scroll down to the bottom and tap "UAstring" and change it from Android to desktop.
Happy fapping, and with out installing some crappy 3rd party app.

Think you have to press download, then "try again" and download and it should work.

I noticed this yesterday as well.
I think the problem is that mediafire doesn't like the android user agent anymore.
If your browser supports it, change your user agent to desktop and refresh the page. You'll be able to download after that.
The browser I used was Boat Browser btw. You guys should check it out

There's a downloader app in the market place that's supposed to help alleviate this issue as well as downloading of large files or files that tend to fail. Sadly I don't remember what it's called.

Browser Poll

Hey all!
What is your preferred browser?
I am a continuous user of Opera Mini for several reasons. The top of which being the data usage savings thanks to the compression from Opera servers. My second reason, it's simple to use and fast as all get out even when on 2G.
Being open to change though, I'm curious to see what others use regularly. Thanks guys n Gals, let me know. Any input is appreciated.

stock browser.
its light-weight and therefore fast, all websites run on it no problem and it syncs with my chrome because my chrome is synced with my google account.
but also im on nexus s, so cant really handle the chrome browser optimally.
perhaps for s3 or galaxy nexus it would be worthwhile using the chrome browser.
For me its opera mini just for the fact it loads pages quicker and its snappier than stock or any other browser I've came across.
But when YouTube app decides to start hiccupping I go to stock for YouTube.

Browser Recommendations?

I recommend boat browser. Flash working, gestures, full screen.
I was using the stock one until recently.
Installed firefox and synced it with my desktop. Has a few quirks but overall its my main browser now.

Yes next is very good its my No2 atm, 1st is chrome because I need tabs on top for quick change.
After testing a number of browsers I have to say that the newer versions of Chrome is hard to beat. I love the "swipe between tabs" feature and that it syncs so good with the phone as well as the desktop and laptop.
Sent from my GT-N8010 using xda app-developers app
My choice is firefox.. really smooth surfing on note 10.1
have used chrome much since i use firefox on desktop as well..
It also depends what browser you use most on desktop
The new Chrome v28 works very well.
Chrome for sure. Logged in to the same account on my phone, and my other 3 computers. So where ever I go, or what ever device I'm on, I have all the same tabs open and ready to go. Works flowless.
I'm with Maxthon for years....

Thanks for all the ideas. I've tried most of them, each seems to have its pluses and minuses or one key feature that doesn't work for me. E.g. Chrome works on my banking site but the copy/paste function doesn't work. Firefox won't pinch/zoom for me. Thought Boat browser was going to be the one, thought it was working on my band site bill pay but at the very end it wouldn't submit the payments. Probably all of these problems are User Error.

It's a toss-up between Maxthon HD and the latest Chrome for me... Chrome was terrible originally (despite how bizarre that is), but recent versions have been pretty awesome. Maxthon has always been rock solid. My 2 cents.

chrome is the only browser you need, it syncs your bookmarks between desktop and tablet/mobiles so you never have to save them manually, all the other browsers on the android market don't even do that, i think firefox has this feature too, i have firefox installed for websites that use flash as chrome won't work with them properly.
I may have to try chrome. It has been awhile. Dolphin is good since it plays flash and supports multi window/dual view.

Another thing you may want to try is the stock browser with a different user agent. I've found some sites function better when using the iPad user agent (web designers favor Apple, big shock).
I'm not sure if this works on non-rooted ROMs, but the UAstring option appears under settings after typing about:debug in the stock browser's address bar.

I use the stock browser. Over the years I have tried various browsers, learned the gestures and so on. Each one was quirky. The stock browser just works. I shouldn't have to fiddle with user agents, or gestures or jumoing through rings of fire to read web pages.
