Hey Guys,
I guess I am just looking for some feedback and information regarding this topic, but considering the Skyrocket has NFC capabilities, do you think we will ever be able to take advantage of apps like google wallet? I saw the Alien ROM (build 5) has some limited NFC capabilities, but after flashing it and downloading the fixed google wallet.apk i was not able to successfully use it, but i was able to open the app. I guess I am asking is, when will we see, if any, progress developing NFC capabilities? Will android 4.0 make a difference seeing the android beam uses NFC. I figure if AT&T enables NFC, some one will fix up a google wallet .apk right?
Stop making new thread do some research you will find plenty of information from researching this forums. Damn ppl now a days are lazy as hell don't wanna do any work. I hate that kind of attitude.
i did little research and find you old topics. t989 and our phone is same so i have their stuff here too. Sky ICE cream RC6 has google wallet. Here and here and here and here and here and here

I kinda think now. that this device was over developed for an under developed os platform. think about it, this device has preemo hardware right yet googles apps are half a$$ working and some arent working at all. i think mabe google needs to step up their app development skills a lil then mabe all these new devices will play nice. its been said that apples apps are better quality... i hate apple lol im currently running a moto droid 1 over clocked to 1.2 on pete's bugless beast 2.2 froyo rom and let me add my phone works ten times faster then the galaxy tab this gtablet and the ipad?? how??? i havent a friggin clue. it dont make sense. android is awsome bottom line this device has potential will that potential be wasted?? i hope not for. what do u guys think.
This belongs in General unfortunately.
The true answer to why Google will not support this is that Honeycomb is their OS for tablets. The hardware manufacturers could not wait to release this hardware (to try to get an edge on the competition).
Currently, Google will not support and will not allow Android Market to go onto a device that does not fit certain criteria.
One of these is that the device MUST have a cellular radio.
Since most of these tablets do not, Google cannot and will not allow Android Market on it at this time.
Hope this answers your question.

it does thank you. i still think its a conspiracy lol.
Google doesn't support wifi only devices yet. I think with android 2.3 we will see a change with that, and that is when we will get this device to shine. It will take time for the hackers to work everything out. It took weeks/months for pete to get his rom to where it is today, and as great as he is, he had a lot of help from the huge DROID community. The community for this gtab is small but growing, and will get better with time. What isn't working fo you? I am on CM6 and got most everything working for google apps except ones where the hardware is limited like GPS/Phone. I have video conf, email, contacts, calender, gtalk, angry birds, flash, overclocking, n lots more etc...
what are you using to overclock?
i cant get set cpu to work properly

i havent purchased it yet. but i want one so bad ive looked at a few of the cheaper tabs and this one looks like its got the best quality for its buck. the galaxy tab is over priced and seems to be less snappy, well from the videos ive seen of it in action. im not a 100% TECH SAVOY but ive rooted my droid and updated its build prop. in order to root this device u used the update.zip format or do i need adb shell to do it.

I used Z4root and rooted my Gtablet with one click. I didn't need an update.zip or adb shell. So don't let the rooting hold you back because if someone like me (no programing or hacking expericence) can do it you surely can.

I just installed the Newest Xoom Zone Rom with functioning Camera and HDMI, and I love it. I was going to post this in the Dev forum for the Rom, but because I'm a noob it won't let me. Is there any way to port the Face Lock from the Nexus to a Xoom. I tried the simple, copy .apk to the system install of the zip before I flashed it, and it crashes when I go to set it up. Face Lock appears under the security heading, but it doesn't function. I like this feature on my Nexus, and I think it would work great on a tablet. Is there a way to make this function on the Xoom, or will we have to hope Google releases a way to build it?

It would be great to have it in deed! But if i were you i should post it into antother section.
Functionality like this will come in time.. We have really only had ics for 30 or so days and alot of devs are working hard on core functions and ensuring it is stable, we only got cam and hdmi in the last few days... Also other devs not associated with the builds may be able to come up with a solution but it may require libs or other files as u have seen just an apk drop wont cut it.. Or the apk itself may need porting for tablets or the xoom specifically, personally i dont know i wish i did. i do think though face unlock will come soon as alot of people are like yourself and want it... i would like it myself

I wasn't trying to *****, believe me I'm so impressed with the Dev support of this thing. I don't really know a lot about programming or any of that stuffs, and I wasn't sure if anyone had any insight to offer in getting this to work. It seems like the only way that is happening is by testing apart the APK and there is NO way I'm smart enough to do that. I was surprised when I saw the camera support already. Im just really hoping there is a way for this to work eventually, it seems like this is more suited to a tablet than a phone, and hopefully we get this working eventually.
hello all,
i was wondering what would it take to use this:
http://www.linuxfordevices.com/c/a/News/SE-Android-publicly-released/
in the existing stock/custom roms...
again i'm a noob, maybe you know if someone has released a kernel or something as hardened as this one since my google skills in search is not that good.
or better yet a rom with encrypted/scrambled signal and encrypted drive inside is great to know! im sure there will be performance penalty but i was just curious to know if someone tried...
i came across with secure messaging/browsing projects at
https://guardianproject.info/apps/
and i think its a good start..i manage/tested only the browser..i cant seem to get gibberbot messenger to work with ICS alpha galaxy SL...
this would be a mixed blessing, ofc. you couldn't easily get hacked, but you couldn't customize your phone either. if you don't know why I said that, read the article again
I was wondering if anyone is currently using Sean Z's Sky Ice Cream ROM and has used the NFC on the ROM? It says that the NFC is "limitted" working. I was wondering has any one used it with one or more of the NFC apps from the Android Market to read tags or transfer info? I Know "Google Wallet does not work because there is no SE on the SkyRocket (yet). I just wanted to know about the NFC abilities working with existing apps from the market without trouble.
I am asking because I am about ready to try out one of the ROMS other than "stock" and NFC is a must! I want to buy some NFC tags and start using them to launch tasks on the phone and transfer information. I think I have narrowed it down to the latest build of Alien or the Sky Ice Cream ROM. It just depends on which one seems more stable (including the stability of NFC). I am tired of waiting for AT&T to get off the pot and enable NFC on these phones. ISIS is supposed to be rolling out in a couple of select test markets this month so they (AT&T) could theoretically update the NFC capabilities on the Stock ROM at any time...but who knows? I have offered a decent donation to anyone that can enable NFC in the stock ROM and I am going to wait until that offer expires before I flash one of the ROMS mentioned above, but I don't think its going to happen on the stock ROM.
So, if anyone can give me some feedback on the issue I would appriciate it. Thanks.
I use sky ics. Along with a tag writer app by NXP Semiconductors. You can find it in the market by searching NFC in the market. Seems to work great

I have a really old tablet lying around that I would like to run Fully Kiosk on to use as a Home Assistant dashboard in my house, but there are several issues I need to solve first, if possible.
The tablet is an Onix AT101-1215. Real cheap thing when I bought it probably 7 or 8 years ago, so it's unusable in its current state. I cannot find any ROM support for it either. I was wondering whether it was possible to get a really barebones, but more recent, version of Android running on it. I don't have much experience at all with Android development specifically, so I think I know what the answer is going to be, but I just wanted to make sure.
I have read some other forum threads, and apparently one of the finnickiest parts of building your own custom ROM are getting the camera working, and more proprietary parts of the device working properly. I don't need most of the features of the device, just for the display and the WiFi connectivity working, with a recent version of android would be good enough.
Again, I don't have any experience working with Android custom ROM development, so how plausible is it that I could get this working?
