I don't know a better place than XDA to ask for some honest opinion.
I am in Canada and used the Nexus S on Mobilicity. LOVE THE PHONE...but traded with my wife because I wanted Rogers 3g since it is much faster than Mobilicity's 3g.
Now I am using the Captivate and love that as well. I will not be buying the 850 band NS since it is not a huge leap from the Captivate.
I am debating whether to get the SGS II (addicted to AMOLED display) or wait for the next Nexus since I am really liking the pure Google experience? I had a great experience with my NS experience and Captivate is serving me fine.

With that given scenario, I would get the S2 unless....... you are really a developer and love jacking around on the phone for discovery sake, me the S2 looks to be the next inline phone for me, But one needs to have hands on first then you can really make a proper decision.
Get the S2 and root it and just put all stock gapps on it.
Agree with the above suggestions
Yup...that is what I am leaning towards. Get the wife the hand bag so she has nothing to say when I get my new SGS II.
Obviously read the hands on review first...
Thanks!

This may not be so. The phone is being locked down - security is a large issue of the phone.
I faced the same situation, but without a phone, so went for the NS because imo as a developer it's better than the SGS II will be. The latter being the same as the NS, just more powerful and with horrid Touchwiz on it.
If I were in your shoes, I'd wait for the next Nexus phone. It'll be built on top of all the mistakes the first series of dual core phones will have made, with a version of Android that will actually be able to take advantage of the power properly... (Samsung haven't actually confirmed if SGS II will be getting 2.4 / Ice Cream for the phone or not)

Hey all
I have an Epic 4G (rooted with a Gingerbread rom) presently and looks like I'm switching to AT&T (moving to an area with poor sprint coverage) I don't think I can wait for new phones, so its between the Atrix and Infuse. Both seem good, but if anyone has input as to why or why not the Infuse I'd like to hear it. Thanks.

I personally like the infuse. But if your into speed I recommend the atrix because it is running on gingerbread with motorolas applications platform. so it has no lag whatsoever.

If you do decide to go with the Atrix, Best Buy will have the Atrix and Nexus S free tomorrow Wednesday the 17th with 2-year contract. Since it is free it is cheaper than buying off contract price which is $529. You can still sell a Nexus S phone for about $300 if you decide to sell the phone to get another phone.

I grabbed the attic once for about 2 minutes and hated it. I don't know, I guess either I like it or hate it in the first few minutes. It was that or the inspire and I instantly loved the inspire when I first grabbed it. Of course the infuse comes along with its amazing screen and the rest is history lol.
Infuse, infused...running gingerbread
I had Atrix for about 3 month before I got Infuse.
Here is stuff I miss from Atrix which I can not have on Infuse
1. LED notification light in front (tells you if you have IM, email etc without need to power your phone)
2. Higher resolution screen makes reading small fonts much more easy on your eyes
3. Better performance due to dual core CPU
Stuff I hated Atrix for
1. Power button is on the back of the phone. I did not even know it's a possibility untill I got Atrix
2. Locked bootloader by default
3. Plain awfull screen. It looks like Infuse with 2 layers of plastic on top of it
4. Charging USB port on the side which make it difficult to mount in a car
5. Since it's NVIDIA powered you can not have Skype with video on Atrix
6. Lower resolution both front and back cameras
I own atrix and infuse right now and yeah they are both good phones and likes its said they have pros and cons. For now im on my infuse but still i gotta say that for what ive been reading here most of the "cons" that are being posted are "fixable", for example the locked bootloader its a 3 minute thing to unlock... the colors are definitely not as bright and sharp as my infuse but theres many ROMs that have managed to do better quality of colors on the atrix, the camera thing its yet true... the infuse camer is mind blowing... the atrix still camera its... ok... a bit dark and choppy sometimes, but the video camera once updated to the droid3 camera and optimez on the atrix upgrades the quality a lot, yet not to the infuse quality. The speed difference its a biggie, infuse its ok... atrix... puff speed demon, and more now on GB and so many roms optimized and kernels allowing to OC.
Now, i got both phones but i use more the infuse because i NEED the bigger screen, (yeah its .5 inches difference for me thats a big point in favor) but my bro for instance doesnt need that big screen and needs more power and ACTUALLY uses the WebTop application ( wich you may say blah blah you need the hdmi dock... no theres direct hdmi to tv-bigscreen hack) he uses the WebTOP and a lot of mods for it so hes actually running a "pc like" interface, but yet i DONT need it...
So you probably should give an extensive read to atrix forums and infuse forums, check out the hacks/mods/roms tech specs, camera quality and anything else you use, not what other people use.
That way you can choose the phone thats right for you.

I'm really enjoying Skype with video over cell data, would Galaxt SII will have the same issue as Atrix (Nvidia chips are not supported by Skype).
Well im now looking at the SII which you can buy now unlocked if you rob a bank. There are warranty issues possibly. I cant really wait for the att version of the s ii so now i really dont know if the extra bux for the unlocked sii is worth it. Apparently the unlocked s ii wont do LTE but probably doesnt matter as i probably wont see LTE here for quite some time. So now its between the Infuse or unlocked S II. You guys pretty well talked me out of the atrix
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
If you can survive the high upfront costs, by all means, get the S II. You're not locked into a contract and you can even take advantage of AT&T's dumbphone unlimited data plans for cheap ($15 a month for unlimited data on 4G). If you do the math, over 2 years, the difference in money spent isn't as much as it seems in the beginning (this is comparing the $25 2GB/month data plan to the $15 unlimited above).

I just bought a Infuse 4G on the AT&T website the other day, and heading to pick it up tomorrow. I was just wondering what the pro's and con's are of the phone. I have a grace period in case I don't like the phone and see if there's a better trade.
is this an upgrade? i seen it advertized for $19.99 at radioshack..i would go with the sg2,skyrocket, or vivid..but i bought the infuse on launch day,im happy with it
I've heard from several people the dual cores are slower than the infuse. I'm very happy with what I have at this point in time.
Sent from my SGH-I997 using XDA App
it's not that the dual cores are slower as a whole, but simply that there are less apps that can fully take advantage of it. I mean, using a skyrocket, theres like, slightly less delay flipping through a million menus, but on a day to day basis, its no problem.
expect a beautiful screen, and snappy response after you install one of the custom roms. If you're planning on using it as a music player, supercurio said it has the best audio chip/codec on the market right now. And avoid the samsung based roms if you do, they don't like reading ID3 tags properly.
as a note, i recommend CM7 with the thunderbolt script installed. fking amazing.
nothing really comes to mind for cons, i mean, it's fast, but not the fastest. is it fast enough? i'd say so. screens amazing as i already said, battery lasts me a good day with heavy usage. HD videos don't lag, i can play PSX games on it no problem, overall pretty solid
Skyrocket is fast on stock, but alot of others I have tested like bionic is slower then mine when running cm7. I benchmark both.

I would STRONGLY recommend returning the Infuse and getting the Galaxy S II (I777).
There is NO reason for anyone to purchase the Infuse new at this point.
Avoid the Skyrocket, it'll have the same problems as far as software updates availability as the Infuse, if not worse. At least the Infuse had 70% commonality with other devices. The ****rocket is at maybe 5% - it has a similar screen and that is it.
The I777 is 95% identical to Samsung's international flagship, the I9100.

I also purchased the Infuse on launch day. Im very happy with with. Im on Darky rom and very, very happy with it.. flawless! Just so dissapointed.. no updates. Just checked and TM Sensation is up for the GB update. I'll stick with this phone for the two years.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I'm with entropy. An infuse or skyrocket puts you at mercy of Samsung and att. An I9100 or i777 gives you options cuz Samsung cares about their international flagships. Even the i9000 still gets support.
But the infuse isn't a bad phone. It just lacks kernel devs and GB source code for att specific features.
When Samsung has a lte flagship that'll be the phone to get. but alot of what Samsung offered that made the galaxy s so good is now available in the market but better. At this point a nexus phone is a good choice cuz all the multimedia stuff is covered 3rd party.
About what you can expect the infuse has a dated processor that was ahead of it's time. What I mean is it has awesome multimedia support for a 2010 processor, infact most 2011 and early 2012 phones have exactly the same graphics processor. You will see lag on websites with a lot of content that you don't see on dual, core phones but nothing to complain about most of the time.
Alright both sides seem pretty equal. I would get SGSII but I haven't found it for anything less then $100 dollars, and I can get the infuse refurbished for a 1ยข. Which if its not much slower or any problems I would like to save the money. But also if the difference is that large I rather spend the extra.

I'd really recommend getting the Galaxy SII (not Skyrocket).
Just. Plain. Old. Sexy. Classy. SII.
The Skyrocket has a larger screen (4.5"), but from what I hear, it seems to have a few more issues than the SII original. Regardless, I still hear it's a great phone, but I think as far as getting future updates and Samsung support, original Galaxy SII is the safest bet.
If you really want a huge phone, look at the Galaxy Note.
And... Stay away from the Infuse. It's considered really old and outdated now. Yes, it's still a perfectly usable phone and it performs everyday tasks wonderfully. But when you can get the SII now for $100 or less, I just don't see why you'd want to lock into 2 years with a phone that is already a year old.
Plus, if you're a gamer, you definitely want to go with SII and not the Infuse. The RAM difference makes some games not be "compatible" with the Infuse.
To be honest, stay away from Samsung phones. I have two, a captivate and a infuse. I'm over Samsung because of the way they shelve their phones after a couple of months and all the problems in their software. I bought an Atrix 2 and its the best phone i have ever had. At first i wasnt sure about it because its a moto phone. Now that i have had it awhile i recommend this phone to anyone. Best battery life, 4 gb of space for apps and i got an over the air update on the second day of me having the phone. Its on the list for a ics update too. I have not had one single problem with this phone. Just my opinion but i would not get a samsung.

I guess I'm a Samsung fan boy. I have always had a Samsung, even before smart phones. I had a Captivate which I gave to my wife when I went with an Infuse. Really love the big screen and I would get a Note if I had the money.....Really doesn't matter if AT&t never pushes out any updates, because I am running CM7.
I recommend the Galaxy S II (i777). I like the Infuse and Skyrocket, but the i777 is perfect. I'd also recommend the Skyrocket over the Infuse, purely because of the RAM difference. The Infuse can't be my daily device, because I need more RAM. So, in my opinion . . .
Galaxy S II (i777) > Skyrocket > Infuse
Samsung may have its issues with software, but theres no denying that their products are well made. Almost everything in my house is made by Samsung. They never die.
That aside, what is your budget and requirements? If you have the money and like the size, get a Note. I've heard nothing but good things about it and developers here are already playing with it. There doesn't seem to be any love for the Skyrocket though. If you're strapped for cash, I'd definately look into the Infuse. The price fluctuates from $50 to free sometimes, so you might get a great deal on one. It's one of the best phones I've ever had. All of the software issues have already been resolved by the devs here. While it may be a little dated by 2012 standards, it handles almost everything I throw at it and you just can't brick it. That's something those ****ty HTCs and Motorolas can't claim.

Not bad
The infuse is a nice phone from what I have experienced. Doesn't look like it will get CM9 though so I would avoid it.
The screen is absolutely beautiful despite it's pitiful resolution. The colors are stunning and viewable from all angles making pictures better looking than what you took a picture of! Also sometimes I forget I am reading off of my phone when using google books and think it's my kindle.
RAM is pitiful (512?! Really Samsung??) but the phone operates smoothly despite.
Battery life is better than anything HTC has to offer.

Hey, I don't personally own a skyrocket but I am the market for one.
I have a slight misconception; in terms of development, the s2 skyrocket and the s2 hd lte are two totally different phones am I correct?
I am more attracted to the HD, yet I cannot even find a section for it on xda (Please correct me if I am mistaken).
Help would be greatly appreciated!

Would you guys recommend that I get the Skyrocket, the HD, the OG S2 or the Galaxy Nexus? I kind of want LTE, but it's definitely not the deal breaker.
Is the lower ppi really noticeable?
I would go with the galaxy nexus hands down very smart sleek device also u get updates faster directly from Google also there is more mods foe the nexus out there senses its a popular device but if u want lte witch is also great well just go with the skyrocket HD but I don't really see the point if lte is not fully up yet in most areas

The Rogers S2 LTE is identical to the AT&T Skyrocket in every way except what carrier it's locked too, and what ROM comes stock on it. All custom development for the Skyrocket works 100% on the S2 LTE.
It depends what price you can get them for and what you intend to do with them.
I would suggest doing some googling of the differences (Google "Skyrocket vs Nexus" for example), and figure out what's best for you.
Personally I think if it was between the Skyrocket and the Nexus, it would be Skyrocket hands down. It has better specs, better screen, bigger battery, better camera, etc. The downside is it comes with Samsung's touchwiz flavour of Android (and Gingerbread at that, until recently maybe?) and does not get regular updates from Google as they come out.
That said, there are some top notch developers working on ICS ROMS for the Skyrocket (CyanogenMod, AOKP, Sky ICS, etc), so there is a wide array of different custom ROMS available. You just have to be willing to dive in and learn some stuff, it's quickly turning into an addicting hobby for me.
Not sure on the S2 HD, but what about the S3? It has native 720p resolution if that is important to you.

I understand all your facts regarding better specs except the screens. Isn't the screen on the Nexus better than the screen on the Skyrocket? The Nexus has a much high resolution and the only difference as far as I know is that the Skyrockets is armed with Super AMOLED Plus while the Nexus has only Super AMOLED. Is the difference in colour so drastic?
I get you about roms and such haha, fellow flashaholic here
Is the Skyrocket going to receive JB via ports or OTA soon?

Oh I guess the Nexus has higher resolution, but the main difference for me is the scratch resistance. The gorilla glass on the skyrocket makes all the difference, the nexus my friend has is scratched to **** and my skyrocket that has no screen protector and lives in my pocket is completely fine after 2 or 3 months now.
I've personally compared a nexus to a skyrocket side by side with the same image, and I didn't notice really any difference in image quality. The skyrocket actually seemed better to me? I dunno.
Cyanogen has come out and said they will be working on CM10 as soon as JB source is released. They will stop development of CM9 once they've released a stable 9.0.0 and focus on supporting CM7 and releasing CM10. They also don't seem to think it will be difficult to port since the differences between ICS and JB are less numerous then GB to ICS was.
Anyway, I don't proclaim to be an expert, but the skyrocket wins in my opinion due its superior hardware.
Edit: I wouldn't count on anything OTA ever happening, official ICS is only just now being released by Rogers...
