Kind of a wobbler here. Info contained within could provide jtag points and such, so for now, I'll leave this in Development.

It has technical info about the Qualcomm MDM6600 modem which is useful for developers interested in what specific hardware, including chip part numbers and their interconnection, is in the phone in order to assist in writing kernel and other software. It is also useful for troubleshooting and repair which, isn't development but it may help developers and others who need to determine if they need to fix their phone and to fix it.
Thanks OP! Been waiting for one of these.
I always have this urge to take apart my phones (well, everything, really) and now I can do it vicariously through this manual.
GPS settings
On page 222, an application is shown running called "LocMgrPD."
Does anybody know how to get this working on CM7? I would really like to be able to disable aGPS completely, and CM7 has none of the LG apps (like libtestmgr or whatever) to do GPS config.
I tried dropping LogMgrPD.apk and LocMgrPT.apk in my /system/app/ folder, but LogMGRPD force quits when I launch it. An alogcat search doesn't find anything helpful.

You should ask that question in the question forum. This thread is only about the P999 service manual.

We'll cut a little slack for a member since 2005.
You're probably missing some library files in /system/lib
Which ones they may be, I have no idea.

Respect for seniority.
I got this a couple weeks ago, it has a ton of information including exploded views, part numbers, all kinds of stuff. was worth downloading for me.
I am still having issues finding replacement parts, looked at six or more sites and ebay and trying to find parts is a P.I.T.A. unless your looking for batteries, digitizers/LCD, or backcovers. .I need a loud speaker which is part of the PIFA antenna assembly. I can handle the speaker itself (not that hard to replace) or the PIFA antenna assembly. I even give them the part number from the service manual and still no dice. figured by now replacement parts would be hitting the market.

Hi all, does anyone know if there is any software available to enable some sort of GPS tracking functionality using your windows phone. As im sure a lot of you know you can buy the little boxes that take a sim card and have a gps reciever built in and you can track them on tinternet. Is there any software which will do this using a windows mobile device witha built in GPS surely this would be a really really good feature.
Obviously to have a web based tracking feature someone would have to offer the server side, even if the app just uploaded location details in some sort of useable format like lat/lon or something to ftp every x mins or hours or something would.
Would be willing to pay if someone can make this.
Thanks all.
Rob.

lot of things are there...search this forum.
I don't think so. I believe currently you can only track mobile phones via their registration with a base station, with varying degrees of accuracy.
GPS tracking still seems limited to specialist devices.

because of all my time spent searching the net trying to find solutions to all the bricked hardware I have created. I decided to start work on a website.
will be called bricked.co.uk
what do you think?
I will have sections on how to repair electronics and also contact lists for companies offering repair services

Now maybe your site should have headings such as:

Seriously though the idea sounds fine as a resource. I assume it will be an international one and aimed at those folks not able to go to their provider/sellers due to their warranty voiding behaviour?

I want to just have one place where everyone can go to get information about their hardware and where(how) to get it fixed cause the internet is a big place and if you don't know how to search properly you wont find anything apart from penis enlargement pills and accountants for dead millionaires looking for a benefactor.......
anyways thanks for the vote of support
Blah, so tired of seeing the GPS threads being posted everywhere?
It's getting so old, almost as bad as, "My phone bricked because I unplugged the USB or the battery fell out"... To me those types of people don't deserve true help. If people took the time to read and follow tutorials to the tee they would have no issues.
Same goes for GPS. We all know it can be a number of reasons why... Just try different kernels/roms/modems/etc/whatever! Granted there are occasionally those unlucky Captivate users who get a stock Captivate and the GPS doesn't work but if they troubleshooted from the start and nothing worked they would realize that 99% of the places would simply give you a replacement.

No. I shouldn't have to go scouring the internet for fixes, voiding my warranty and wasting my time trying to fix something that should work out of the box. Maybe you're OK with letting the manufacturer off the hook for building a POS product, but the rest of us "whiners" think we have every right to expect that a device sold with certain features should actually have those features working.

Of course. Obviously the bad GPS thing is just a conspiracy. Besides, expecting it to work out of the box is asking a bit much. It's up to the buyer to search the internet for the right firmware taken from some other device to make his phone work almost ok. All this coddling and hand holding makes me want puke.

So instead of going to the manufacturer to get it fixed, you bombard a forum of people who want to move forward with their phones, instead of answering the same question and posting the same links over and over again?
No offense, but I agree, enough of the obnoxious "mah gps sux" threads.
Tell it to samsung if it really bothers you.
/troll
Where are all the "my gps sux" treads you are talking about? I just went through a few pages of this forum and can't find them. There where I think 3 "gps" treads i came across from the last few days. One was about the southeast not going to have good sig for a bit because of gov testing. Im tired of the threads being posted whining about threads being posted that you don't like.
Ok guys enough with the GPS threads ok. We all know what the GPS is like on the captivate, SO we have 3 options.
1. Accept it and try to help getting it to work as best it can.
2. Be upset about it and complain to ATT till they give you another device.
3. Complain to Samsung about it
If you notice there was not an option to keep posting new threads about this. I have left a few threads open for this just so people that think complaining on XDA about it will make them feel better or get something done about it. Either way I am over the issue myself. I know my gps doesnt work like my old HD 2 did but hey I expected issues when I got a Samsung product. Look at the issues all their smartphones have had over the years. There was no reason that I thought the captivate was gonna be any diff, it was just an entry level Android device for me to use till I got the device i wanted. (Desire HD).

I am not sure but I think my infrared port may be dead... For like the first 5 or 10 minutes of setting up Peel it worked perfectly but then, just stopped. I even tried a factory reset to see if that restored functionality, no joy. Anyone else having this issue?
Wow, Samsung tech support is beyond useless. Told them the IR port wasn't working, they told me to download a barcode reader app and see if the Camera worked. When I explained to them why that made no sense, they told me that I should contact technical support for Peel. I explained that I have done that, now they want me to send my tablet into them for 2-3 weeks for them to determine if the tablet is defective, and then should it be defective I'd receive a replacement within another 2-3 weeks.
I haven't had tech support this bad since I had to spend 3 hours on hold with Palm back in the day about my Palm Tungsten T2.
Do you people not search. This was talked about months ago.
I apologize, I did search but obviously not well enough. Could you perhaps provide a link to where it was talked about?
I did find something interesting out on my own... I finally got the tab working with Keis and it said there was a firmware update. I installed the update, and tried out Peel. Peel turned on the TV... Once. Only once. So, I tried TouchSquid Demo and it worked for quite a bit longer, then it too stopped.
At this point, I believe that my tablet is probably experiencing some very odd software glitch where the device doesn't do something to the IR port and it stops working. It is a good thing I didn't buy the device for its TV remote capabilities. I didn't though, I bought it to replace a Nook Tablet as an ereader, something is does fabulously.
It is kind of interesting though, I've been interested in using a handheld computing device as a remote for a long, long time. I have had Palm PDA's that would do it - sort of - most notably the Tungsten T2 and Tungsten T3 both performed alright as a TV remote, but the IR port wasn't very well suited to some devices. I found that earlier models had similar if more restricted results.
Seems to me that (especially with the writings from other people on the subject) the idea of using a computing device as a remote is... Sketchy at best. Not entirely sure why, afterall, the IR Blaster is designed for such but the software - while it was working the first time in Peel and even Touch Wiz, does leave much to be desired. Harmony remote perhaps is in my near future.

So I thought this might be a problem with the hardware itself. However I got it replaced, and found that the new model has the exact same problem. I'm going to go with software on this one.

yeah, smart ass
Well, its true. All of the info you need can be found in the q&a forums and by searching.
Alright, look. I appriciate that answering questions all day can be a pain in the ass if you chose to do it. However, no one gets paid here. I answer questions I have an answer for but likewise, no one is telling you that you have to post. It isn't like I didn't search. I saw a lot of posts on what different kinds of software to use but I didn't see anything where the hardware was working and then stopped.
I'm not asking you to personally help me. My problem is obviously rare and that's alright with me. Now, if I missed something and you want to help by posting a link, great. If not, then what does it help to be a smart ass? If you really don't like helping people with problems that you may think are stupid, or silly, then what good does it do to be all, "This was talked about, search for it." What are you hoping to acomplish by making such a post?
There are a lot of people here who manage to answer questions without being a ****. There are a lot of people who manage to answer questions like you did but also provide a link, both being helpful and a **** at the same time.
I will quote Wil Wheaton... Don't be a ****.
I am not a developer, while I seem to have more knowledge than the daily user, I do not have the knowledge base to attempt the project that I am curious about. I work for a local tow company as AAA tow truck driver. AAA has provided all its contract stations with an android device that runs an app that is basically a native interface for a web based portal for dispatching the calls. To make a long story short if I were to log into the web interface from my E4GT I can view the dispatched calls ok and the office seems to be able to track me ok, but the native app on the AAA device seems to be able to update statuses while the web interface doesn't seem to actually send the information. I got a hold of the native app apk file and it installed ok, however it asks for a user name that the web interface does not ask for. I assume that this is to prevent people (like me ) from installing on devices that weren't approved by AAA. I was wondering if perhaps there was a way to modify the program to skip this step and allow me to move right in to the log in. If anyone can point me in the direction of someone who may be able to undertake this project for me, I know several people who would rather use their own devices than the AAA device which we are held financially responsible for if it ever is broken or lost. If I were able to run it on my device I could toss their device in a drawer where it will stay safe until I need to return it. Please help. I included the .apk file if anyone is interested in giving this a go.
The likelihood is that modifying this original app in any way works break the law.
AAA obviously paid for the app to be developed and they will own the rights to it.
I suspect that your request breaks the rules of XDA.
The app was downloaded fire free with no copyright permissions agreed to at this location. (I tried to post a link but I guess in too new, I have it tho if you need evidence] therefore I would assume no laws were broken. That web page is the web based program and allows you to download the app without agreeing to anything.

You can post a link by sticking it in as clear text, with no 'http://' if you really need to.
Just because you are able to download it for free doesn't mean there are no inherent copyright and licences - you will often find them as part of the installation procedure.
OK here's the link. d3me.ersace.com/d3me/htmls/index.jsp
The AAA servers have been having issues over the last couple days so the website seems to be down right now. It actually has been making with really tough because all or calls are being dispatched late and customers aren't happy. But there were no permissions on the installation either. It installed fast and asked for a user ID that I'm assuming belongs to someone in their tech dept. That's all.
After that it should go straight to the contract station and driver log in.

The website is up again. Feel free to check it out. I've been trying to get a hold of someone from AAA to talk about getting me a log on, but I have no response. I can't see how they could object to me using software that they want me to use. I just don't want to risk the device that they are holding me responsible for. Aside from the fact that I don't want to carry multiple devices around. I don't want to break any laws, but there doesn't seen to be any restrictions on this particular app.

That would be implicit to the software as well, so I would assume that the 'accompanying materials' probably includes their restrictions of use.
Regardless, I can't see you getting anywhere without the username and password. I reckon that social engineering is likely to be more successful than hacking the app, but I may be proved wrong.
I'm finally getting some response from AAA, it was a handbook given during the training for the software. I have read through it and an struggling to find anything regarding the licensing or copyright infringement. I don't deny the ethical gray area that I am standing in, I am just trying to make my working life easier. If I can accomplish the task through the proper means by acquiring a log in of my own I will do that, I was just wondering if the same results could be achieved through alternative means.

Noboy was willing to help either here or at AAA, however; if you are a reliable driver that doesn't need to be tracked everywhere that you go, justmake sure that your dispatch tells you when they send you a call and the web link will work. It will even track you if you leave it runnng. But there is no alert sound. So if dispatch just sends calls and doesn't tell you, its no good. Luckily I have been able to just deal with it for now. I'm extra careful with their device, and hopefully nothing will happen. But the tablets...... that sems pricey.

To say "Noboy was willing to help either here or..." is rather unfair. Nobody here would have any benefit from modifying the application to do what you wished, even if they did want to get involved in the legal gray area, and you can't exactly expect a developer to simply spend hours or days taking an app apart in the hope of modifying it when there is no real reason for them to do so.
Your best bet always was, and still is, to go back to AAA and ask them. If enough of the drivers start doing so they may consider allowing installation on a different device - although they may demand the device by sent to them first for the installation so they can pre-enter the required log-on information.
not an insult.

My post was not meant as an insult, just a statement of fact. I always aknowledged the legal gray area, and more than understand why nobody would get involved. I guess I was hoping somebody might point me in the right direc, tion to accomplish the task on my own. I have since given up the task as I have stated already, and continue to utilize the various recources this site provides. I'm sorry you were offended, but once agan, it was not an insult. simple
Guys i know this is kinda a dead post but AAA locks the tablet to go to the one website only.. that is when you click on the "app" on the tablet, it is just opening the web page. its your shop number, password, truck id and user id.. no install needed.
If you install this on your own device (only some clubs allow "bring your own device") you need to enter the location url for your particular club usually http://spp.aaa.com/d3me*** where the *'s are your club number. Then you have to have an application username which is simply a password that gives you access rights to install the application. You will never see this on a club owned device like a cell phone or tablet provided by the club you are contracted for because it is preinstalled. So as "simple" as stated that is all you need on a club device but if you are trying to install on your device (which likely runs much faster and better anyway) then you need a club that allows BYOD to get the application installer password. (And no I wont post the installer password!)
