Skyrocket won't send or receive SMS until reboot - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Yesterday my mom's skyrocket wouldn't send SMS or make calls so she asked me to fix it. I was looking around in the network settings but I couldn't find anything wrong. Remembering my old samsung that would do something similar (or identical), I rebooted the phone. That fixed the problem and I thought it might have just been a one time thing.
Today it happened to my phone... Someone is supposed to wake me up through text message, but because of the same exact problem my mom's phone had, it didn't ring when I got a message or even receive the message (I woke up late).
So I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem, or if anybody could think of any solutions. I'm pretty sure more people will start to find this problem with their phones, but maybe it's just me and my mom.
I hope I didn't make the wrong decision by buying a samsung phone again.
Oh and I'm located in Dallas.
Anyone want to read about the glitch I had with my old phone? Hundreds of other people had the same problem.
Long story short:Skyrocket can't send or receive SMS or make calls until rebooted. Happened to 2 different skyrockets.*

Text message notification problem

hello everyone,
this is pertaining to the ATT tilt
i did several searches on here about my problem.------ first off the problem is, when i receive a new text the phone notifies me by the corresponding tone that i have assigned to it, (like its suppose too) but after like 5-10 msg's the phone fails to sound. later i may go to the phone and see that i have like 5 unread msgs that never sounded when received.
Now back to the searches, the only thing i found were phone wont vibrate or receiving a msg it displays the wrong time and so on.
so if i over looked where this was covered i apologize in advance, i know how irritating it is to have to re answer the same questions over again. so please if anyone knows of a fix for this or who have had the same problem please let me know.
oh before i forget i also called att thinking that maybe the phone was defective, well to find out if it is theres nothing they can do cuz the phone is now discontinued.
Thanks everyone in advance
-John
I'm sorry I have no solution, but I can tell you I'm experiencing the very same issue on my Xperia X1. I've been searching to no avail as to how to fix it but I've come to understand anyone experiencing the lost vibration on SMS has found it was due to different apps they have installed. I, too, have noticed the time stamp on incoming SMS to be off (by 5 hours).
This, at least, helps confirm it's not your phone being defective, just software.
If you have fixed this since this post, please share your solution.
Thanks!
thank you for responding. im glad to know im not the only one with the problem. i was starting to wonder if anyone would reply. im very greatful. well i haven't found a fix or done anything that i know of, but it seems that the phone has fixed its self. funny i know and ive glad that it did. funny thing about it is that i actually called at&t about the issue, seeing if anyone has ever called in regarding this. the rep told me that if its anything like her phone, it wont sound after recieving a new text if she already has one that is UNREAD. i tried to explain to her that it was failing to sound even after reading all UNREAD msgs in my in box, and then receiving a new one. but i dont think she fully understood me. so now i make sure that i read my msgs as soon as they come in. try that if ur not already. my phone has not messed up on me for close to 2 weeks now. KNOCK ON WOOD. hope this helps you in any way.

Receiving Duplicate Text Messages

I know this is probably something that can't be fixed without working with T-Mobile, but they can't seem to figure out what the problem is and I'm getting desperate
Whenever someone sends me a text I get duplicates of it over and over until I turn on WiFi calling, which seems to work fine. I have had this problem with two different G2x (I sent the first one back thinking it was a hardware issue). This also does not happen on my Nexus One (I moved the SIM card back over and the issue disappears).
I am thinking it has to be something to do with the communication between the G2x and my T-Mobile cell network. Any information anyone has about this that could help me help T-Mobile find the issue would be great.
Thanks.
You don't have another messaging app installed, do you?
First thing I did when I got the replacement was sync Google contacts and tell someone to text me and it started happening. I factory reset the original one I had 3 times and the problem persisted.
Are you running juicedefender? I get duplicates of some messages because juicedefender shuts off mobile data, so the network doesn't receive the notification that the MMS was received. It will try and resend every 5 minutes for a specified number of times until the message is received.
Nope, had no apps installed. Plus I get the duplicates sometimes less than 1 minute apart.
Thanks for the responses so far. This problem is really starting to get irritating.
I was getting a lot of duplicates. Seems to have spied for now. No clue what was doing it
Its really irritating because I love the phone, but I can't use it if I am constantly getting spammed by duplicate text messages.
yea i got 55 texts from 12 am to 11 a m from the same person 2 different texts and it kept going for a couple hours after too idk why i just got a new one today though but it's got a bad bleed so im just returning it and going to wait a week or two hope they solve it by then already sent lg a pic so
If your problems anything like mine a replacement won't fix the problem, unless I somehow got stupendously unlucky.
Anyone figure this out. I have the same problem. It is not every text message and not every person. It is pretty random. The same person can send me 4 texts 2 are normal, one repeated twice and one 24 times over a period of time, usually a couple hours.
Check any of the apps/widgets that have anything to do with calls/texts, even just showing a number of unread texts. If there are any that have the permission "Your Messages: Send SMS-received broadcast" uninstall it and see if the problem persists. I think I may have had an app called Organizer Widget that was blocking my phone from sending that broadcast.
I had your problem.
I was running on stock G2X, and I was receiving text after text after text.
I spent time on the phone with the T-Mo reps, and he concluded that:
"it's a server problem. You see, our messaging database isn't reading that your phone got the text, and thus it re-sends it in hopes that it receives it."
Basically, he is saying that the messaging server is tripping. But, this is not exactly true, because if it was the messaging server, then it would be universal. It is simply a G2X stock-rom problem.
I think it actually might have something to do with the baseband, but I am not sure if CyanogenMod updates it or fixes it when flashing.
I have a fix.
After I flashed myself some CyanogenMod, the problem was instantly fixed.
So, I think its a problem with the stock rom. Definitely. The CM rom works perfectly, no repeating messages. Also, the current nightlies are mighty stable.
I have this issue as well. It doesn't happen often but when it does it sends 10 or more duplicates.
I have handcrafted sms and launcher products which displays the number of texts on the dock. Running rooted stock.
It hasn't happened in a while, so I doubt it is related to the Apps.

I've had this issue on ALLLL my android phones I've owned . Even non Android phones and my unlocked iPhone. I have tried different similar cards as well.
I have noticed it happens the most when I receive messages from a Verizon user; followed by AT&T users. I never (not that I've noticed) had duplicates from Sprint or other T-Mobile users. Only Verizon and AT&T.
My point being I think it's a T-Mobile issue. Or a communication issue between providers.

I'm actually having this problem running CM7 Nightly 63, it's irritating as hell.
Dont know, but I'd like to know the problem too. I have chompsms installed but it shows duplicate in the stock messaging app too.
I really don't think it has anything to do with the phone...
Like I said earlier, all my phones have done it. Even my crappy clamshell Samsung back in the day. Or my unlocked iPhone.
Server makes the best sense.

I have the issue as well...although it seems to be only with certain contacts, however across every carrier. Averages 3-4 duplicates. Never had this problem before with any phone. SIM card went straight from my N1 to my G2X. Kind of an old SIM. Maybe I'll try a re-provision on a new SIM to see if that makes any difference.
Thank you @shaneledford, uninstalling organizer widget solved my problem... everything's back to normal

I've also had this problem with previous phones, though it tends to happen much more often when one of them is an Android phone. Only started happening with my phone before this one, though, but that was a Nokia non Android, so it's a fairly recent thing but not Android specific.

[Q] Incoming call issue

Recently i have been getting phone calls, the past few times from the same person...the odd thing is they aren't calling me and i'm not calling them. It shows on both of our ends that we're receiving calls. It just happened to be about 20 minutes ago where i got a call from a friend of mine, she said i called her and i was no where near my phone. Then i got a call from someone i havn't spoken to in a long time (again he didn't call me)
It's really becoming irritating, i just ran some virus scans, cleaned caches and restarted. Has anyone else heard of this happening? Or is something bigger to blame then my phone...
I see your question was already answered in the General forum. Better to post here first.
I went back and saw that... My mistake, I didn't know however that prankowl existed... I'm hoping that their block number thing is legit. I'm just happy I don't have to exchange my phone due to some odd factory malfunction

[Q] ? infuse not rooted connection issues

Hello, have a question and was wondering if any one else has had this issue with the infuse. My wife's phone some times will not receive calls, but will get a notification that she has a voice mail. Can receive text's, she will try to send a picture and will have to shut off phone and turn it back on in order to get it to send the picture. The phone is not rooted or any thing, it is stock. I am wondering really two things, first if any one has had this issue if so how to fix it, or if maybe if i root the phone and flash a custom rom on it would that maybe fix the issue. Thanks for any help with this any one can give in this matter.

[Q] Phone calls not going through

Hey guys and gals, I'm hoping someone here can help me. I have had a Samsung S4 for a about a year and a month ago all of a sudden, when I place a call, it acts like it going to connect but I never hear the ringback tones and when the receiving party answers they can't hear me and I can't hear them answer. It's as if I never successfully placed a call on my end, it jeeps continues to say "dialing". On the other end, the receiving party hears their phone ring but when they answer there is nothing there. I called tech support at Verizon and they thought it was a bad SIM card, so they sent me into the store for a SIM swap. That didn't work, so the tech at the counter ordered a replacement S4 for me. Now I'm sorry to say that it doesn't seem like a phone issue at all, rather an app or something that is causing the problem because I've had my new phone for 2 weeks now, and it just started happening again. I haven't installed any apps today that were on my phone prior to it happening the first time.
So A. has anyone seem this happening before and if so how'd ya fix it? And B. If not, is there a way I can find out what processes on the phone have happened in a time listed format that I might be able to narrow it down to a particular app possibly? I really don;t want to have to go through another hard reset of I don;t have to.
Thanks so much you all!!
