[SOLVED] Permanent change MAC adress in Sensation - HTC Sensation

How to do that? ARHD 4.1.11.
Calibration file dodn't work. nvram.txt? Where to put that?
I'v done that before, but lost my notes.
I'm not interested in MAC spoofing. Just want to have custom one.

BUMP.
Anyone?

Hi,
Not sure if this will do it permanatly but it is a fix of a kind.
http://androidforums.com/t-mobile-g1/3506-changing-spoofing-mac-address.html
EDIT: and this should help too..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=750596
JMC31337
head into terminal emulation type su and go into /data/misc/wifi
Look for a file called nvram.txt
Copy it to your sdcard and then to your cpu desktop
open it with notepad and at the
bottom of nvram.txt is the mac address
This i was able to verify and test on android Citrus Ciena
Edit that mac address and save it as nvram1.txt onto sdcard
Now go back to data wifi misc and copy nvram.txt to nvram.bak
Head into gui and then settings then wifi then turn on the wifi but don't connect to any wifi
turn off the wifi, switch back to terminal
Copy the nvram1.txt to data misc wifi
remove the original (make sure you got it backed up)
Rename nvram1.txt to nvram.txt
head back into gui and then settings then wifi
Now for me it immediately stated unable to turn on wifi
Ignore it and try to turn it on anyways
When it turns on your newly edited mac address will take effect
Connect to your AP
NOW B4 REBOOTING YOU MUST CHANGE NVRAM BACK TO THE ORIGINAL!
did this and verified a fake mac address with tcpdump-arm
Busybox ip link show eth0
And a router with wpa2 table reflected the new fake mac

Yes. I only had to change to Engineering SPL downloaded from here: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Sensation:_Support_Downloads before changing MAC.
If you already have Engineering SPL you can skip this step.

[SOLVED] AdHoc Wifi on LG Optimus One P500

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1170232
Someone needs to port this for our LG Optimus One P500.
We all know that Adhoc doesn't work on Android. I've also seen a few thread recommending the use of alternative software on the PC. But one must understand that these software do not support all WiFi adapters and/or need specific OS in order to operate.
If one of our dev can port or make a fresh one, we could vote to make it a "Sticky".
I request you comment your opinion about this.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Download the "wpa_supplicant" from the link below and replace it with the one in your rom. It should work.

Connectify requires Win7, I'm running WinXP. Also, connectify does not support all adapters.
You can checkout the list of adapters which supports connectify:
http://support.connectify.me/home?page=2
Also, was referring to Ad-Hoc, not "Access Point".
Maybe this can help you as it is xp compatible.

Will definitely give it a try . Anyway, about the "G3 AdHoc Wifi Thread" by "jinxskore", it supports even old onboard laptop adapters which is why we definitely need this. You don't need to download any additional application/software....it will detect the AdHoc like an access point which is absolutely cool. Google could have added that with their updates but God knows why not.
I still think one of our dev should make one. I would if I could but I just started using android a month back and rooted yesterday.

Thanks a ton. Before I proceed, is it possible to just copy it through "Root Explorer" instead of flashing it? This is because I'm on stock 2.2.2 rooted and planning to stick with it for a while.
Also, is there a post dedicated to this particular "supplicant"? Would be really handy if there is one. If not, you could make a sticky
Okay, replaced the wpa_supplicant using "Root Explorer" and YES I can confirm it is working. Thanks a ton.

Here, I was referring to "PC-to-Phone" wireless connection which allows internet sharing from the PC to the Phone (not Phone-to-PC) without using any particular OS (eg. Win7) or PC Software (eg. Connectify).
Take a look at the link in the original thread and you'll get the idea of what the post is all about.

problem
so i am able to see the adhoc network i have at home, but now my issue is i am apparently unable to connect to said network. i click connect and it just dismisses the prompt, but with no change to my connection state. ive rebooted the phone many times, disabled data to ensure nothing is coming from 3g, and tried multiple times, so now im at a loss. im also unaware if this has affected my ability to connect to regular networks as i have none available to test right now. any help would be great tho, im still learning my way around adb but these are the commands i used.
adb remount
adb push system/bin/wpa_supplicant /system/bin/wpa_supplicant
adb shell chmod 755 /system/bin/wpa_supplicant
and i was instructed to use this as well but it came with an error
adb shell chown system.wifi /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf
---------- Post added at 09:03 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:57 PM ----------
so i tried again with that chown command after a restart and it went through, and now it still sees the adhoc network, but once i try to connect it just adds it to the bottom of the list saying out of range, and i try again with no results..

Google it my friend.
I have a Vista machine.
1) First of all I enabled sharing of LAN card
2) Wifi & LAN were not getting enabled at same time (LAN was given auto precedence), issue was resolved by disabling switching of LAN/WLAN in BIOS
3) Installed Connectify
4) configured it to share my LAN connection over WIFI
Simple!

i have attached the edify ready zip of wpa adhoc
and if u need to convert amend script to edify use the other attachment found via googling
i have flashed this but unfortunately i could connect to ad hoc(of my laptop) only once and that too couldnt access the internet.
Now whenever i make ad hoc from my lappy the option of 'share your internet connection' is not present at all!
My phone is a LG p500 rooted, android 2.3.3 original LG ROM, and my sdcard is partioned, I've not updated the kernel yet... I have used ES File Explorer since Root Explorer is now paid and I have no credit card.
I've tried a wpa_supplicant from another forum and now my android just keeps rebooting.
I set the airplane mode and could use ES File Explorer again to restore original file, but, anyway, my phone just works in 3G networks... whenever I turn on the wifi, the phone reboots....
What exactly is this wpa_supplicant, what it does? in linux terms?
Anyway, I'm gonna give a try in this one in this thread...
---------
Update:
Meanwhile, i found out why my original wpa_supplicant was not working... it seems it is not a file, as i was wondering, it is a program... and when i gave it permissions to override, i set wr-wr-wr... but as a program, it must have the EXECUTION permission: wrx-wrx-wrx ... now my wi-fi is working again... but, still, not detecting ad-hoc ...
anyway, i can try again with differente version i backed up my original, and now i know how to fix it...
in case of success, i post here!

ad-hoc now working! \o/
there are many threads about this subject, so, to help others noobs like me, some notes:
1) root your phone
2) download ES File Explorer on market. it's a free (and very good) alternative to Root Explorer
3) its a good idea to turn off wifi now. better, set airplane mode.
4) in the configs of ES File Explorer, if your phone is rooted, there is an option to mount the /system directory with permissions to write/read and another option to see hidden files. check them on.
5) now, you should navigate to /system/bin/wpa_supplicant and save a copy of this file in a secure location.
6) back to system/bin/wpa_supplicant, press long and in its properties, you can change the permissions of the file to rwx-rwx-rwx
7) now you can copy the wpa_supplicant you found in this forum, to that location, and override the original (dont worry, if you have a backup, its reversible)
8) again, check the permissions of the new wpa_supplicant. it must be rwx-rwx-rwx too. (it's a program, the "x" is needed to execute)
9) that all. it now should work. ad-hoc networks are marked with a (*)... in my case, worked perfectly. My phone is a LG P500 android 2.3.3 original rom.
10) in case of any errors, just try another version of wpa_supplicant, there are some versions here. or, just restore your original wpa_supplicant. remember the permissions.
11) if you have the android sdk in your pc, you can run adb shell wpa_supplicant -v and find out your version... v5 or v6 ... in this forum there are modified wpa_supplicant in versions 5 and 6 ... use the correct according to your rom...
no ta transferring

Heyy Guys I have a FIX for THE ICS wifi problem
Its Simple and Easy
All you have to do is download sQlite Editor from market or can search on 4shared for it
Now u have to download Root Explorer and go to this path remeber to mount r/w
data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db
and open settings.db with sqlite editor
now go to secure and press MENU and click NEW RECORD
And a menu will come
for the name specifically write this
( wifi_country_code ) without brackets
and for the value specifically write this
( EU ) in capitals without brackets
thats it...
Please Try And report Thanks...
Thanks bro. Nice Guide. but there is an easier method, which is using a single script file, which will do the magic for ya, i will post it soon, just got busy today with some exams!
ICS WIFI problems? Running InsertCoin 4.0.8, 0 wifi problems, always maxed out connection (with like 4 concrete walls between me and the router)
Let me explain. In ics. If u have a none EN or US sim card
Wifi will be disabled upon booting android ..to fix this we add EN as alocal location for sim card. And it fixed the problem.

I'm wondering if we cant just remove the "Tetherguard" app from the phone via Titanium. I'm not sure if this is what prevents us from tethering, or the app that phones home... but we might have some luck.
Other than that, can we use other apps that will bypass this?

Unfortunately that didnt work, I just tried.
I uninstalled teatherguard via Ti B/u tried to run my tether app, no luck. Tried to run the factory installed hotspot software and instead of getting denied it just wouldnt turn on. If I went into settings I could make changes and try to turn it on however it would just act as if it was loading and eventually do nothing.
At that time I went ahead and installed barnacle and no luck there either, again it wouldnt deny but it wouldnt boot up either.
Hmmmm
Okay so after playing with the app "WiFi Tether for Root Users, Muller, Lemons, Buxton" I finally got it to work. You will need the app downloaded and installed, go to settings, select profile and select "generic ICS" should be the 3rd option, then hit the menu bar again to select re install binary files.
After that turn on the hot spot and connect with your device!
Actually I'm using the HTC app for tethering!! I did this that a saw on a Vivid ROM thread, I think it was on Dark Raider's..... so I don' deserve any credit, I just want to help because I got my One X yesterday, rooted it and tried it and it works perfectly!!
You'll need SQ Lite Editor:
1) Dialer Storage
2) telephony.db
3) carriers
4) 12 Entitlement 310410
you shoud change the value under "apn" from "broadband" to "pta"
5) Please restart your device and you will get it!!
Enjoy my friends!!!
Thank you for that fix!!!!
I search hih and low for the entitlement check in all the databases. I would have never thought to look in telephony.

find the telephony.db in /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases copy it to /mnt/sdcard
edit it with the sqlite manager of your choice. I used the firefox extension.
Find line 12 and change it from broadband to pta.
copy it back to /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases

You'll need root explorer or similar file manager with root access to get to the file and put it back

You're welcome. I googled the file location that took a while. After that it was cake.
the maker of CWM also made a tethering app, it also claims that it's almost non-detectable by carriers since it does it with proxies and works with non-root https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.tether
just another option. If you use ssdroid, this is another tethering method that does it with proxies and also is nondetectable that i am experimenting with http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25818971

pretty sure you should use a root file explorer to remove it from system/apps because you have to remove the odex as well as the apk. not saying it will work but it might. since you already removed the apk with titanium you should use a root file explorer and remove the odex file that's probably still there and see if it fixes it. im trying it now and will report back.

In most cases the WiFi issue can be solved by modifying the file: "wpa_supplicant" it is located in /system/bin/wpa_supplicant . but since it is encrypted you will need to replace it with modified one. you have to change the name of the original one to wpa_supplicant.bak then past the modified one in the same folder:bin ... the only way that I know is to have root capabilities so you can do these mods. I will post a thread which will guide you to do this step by step.
My previous reply was for you to gain root access without the use of your volume buttons. so you can change your device root properties. so, fist make sure you got root access then you can fix your WiFi issue.

and you will see I have an instruction for another fellow about the similar issue..

The mac address is assigned to each device at the factory. Changing the mac address on this phone accidentally is unlikely, if it's even possible. You probably have an app on one, or both, of the phones that is reporting a false or spoofed mac address. To find out, turn the phone(s) off completely. Then when you turn it/them back on wait until you see the red and white Motorola logo. As soon as you see that press and hold both of the volume buttons until the phone is booted up. That boots the phone up in Safe Mode in which no user applications are available. At this point check the mac addresses to see if they're now correct. If they are then you know it was caused by a user app and you'll just have to figure out which one it is. If all else fails you can either factory reset the phones or re-flash the FXZ files.
Fixing the problem is not the MAC address . 00: da: 36: 16: de: eb.

This is actually the same exact MAC both the phones are reporting.
Necroing this thread because it's relevant and didn't provide a solution/fix either.
Does anyone know a fix for this, or a MAC spoof that works on THIS device? Everything I've found with using busybox or nvram doesn't seem to work.
To note, both devices are using CM11, if that's relevant.
Edit:
So.. fixed this.
Moved a copy of wl1271-nvs.bin from /system/etc/firmware/ti-connectivity/ to the SD card /storage/sdcard0/
Opened terminal (my method was SSHing into the phone but adb, terminal emulator, or anything will work). As per directed from Texas Instruments Wiki I used the built-in calibrator to do the following:
/system/bin/calibrator set nvs_mac /storage/sdcard0/wl1271-nvs.bin 00:da:36:16:ed:ea
Note, you can use whatever MAC you wish.
From BMM, with aromafm.zip (I found it quickly with a google search of exactly that file name) in the SD card's clockwork folder, I copied the modified wl1271-nvs.bin from the SD card to the path above.
