[Q] HTC Sensation XE, HBOOT 1.20.0000, S-OFF with LOCKED bootloader - General Questions and Answers

I accidently copy the wrong files during the Rooting. After I successfully S-OFF with revolutionary I saw my bootloader screen with REVOLUTIONARY and S-OFF. After that I accidently copy the wrong files of firmware updates instead of CWM.
After updating that my bootloader went back to LOCKED and HBOOT version is changed to 1.20.0000 with S-OFF.
Please how could i install the CWM and UNLOCKED my bootloader again.

You already have S-OFF, so just flash ClockworkMod recovery with this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=794638.

[Q] can't boot into system

My problem is a little complicated.
It dates back to last night. Suddenly i just want to try ICS so i download the firmware and rom from this thread(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1408351). I met with a problem, after i flash the firmware, the system stuck but i pulled the battery out then problem solved. The next step is just as usual and nothing unusual happened. It's not so smooth and perfect as CM7, which i think it's just a problem of maturity.
After i restore the apps and finish setting the phone, i check the bootloader and find that the bootloader shows it's locked. There wouldn't be a problem if i just accept that. But i decided to do something, unfortunately, i messed up.
The bootloader shows "locked" and "Security warning" and the phone can't boot into system by any means. I tried a lot of methods and finally i unlock the bootloader by official method. Result seems to be good. The bootloader shows "unlock" but "s on" and the phone can boot into recovery. It seems i just wake up from a nightmare.
but the nightmare never ends. Although i can wipe or install any rom, but the phone just stuck at the splash screen. I tried but i faild. Is there anyone has some suggestions? And how to s off?
The hboot version is 1.23.0000 and it doesn't install any PG58IMG files no matter it is radios or else.
Thank you in advance
You need to Soff again.
Its normall for the latest firmware hboot 1.23 to show locked. Its not really locked

Could you tell me how to s off please? Or downgrade the hboot? It seems that hboot 1.23 isn't supported by revolutionary?

I have read the thread, if relotionary is the only way to s off, i don't think it help because it requires hboot is under 1.18, but the hboot of my phone is 1.23, is not in the supported list. Besides, my phone can't boot into system, the revolutionary is always waiting for device
Revert to 1.17 and S-off using revolutionary
I hope it is possible, don't know exactly what is possible to be flashed with s-on, but since your phone is unlocked you can use fastboot commands, so I think it wont be a problem.

In this thread, it mentions that how to revert to 1.17(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20681060&postcount=22), on the condition that the hboot is 1.20,but my hboot is 1.23. I'm trying the zip from the thread, hope it works
It remains usless. The bootloaders shows "PG58IMG.zip" is a wrong image.
My Sensation XE came with HBoot 1.2.000, so i installed at ROM from here with HBoot 1.18.000 and then got S-OFF.

And which ruu? I tried ruu too, but it didn't work.
i know that 1.20 can be reverted to 1.17 and then s off. But my hboot is 1.23 rather than 1.20. And i have another problem: the bootloader can't update by PG58IMG.zip, it always shows no file or wrong image.

[Q] S-OFF on HBOOT 1.20

Is there an S-OFF available for HBOOT 1.20? Saw "locked" after flashing 1.20 and S-ONed phone. Finally unlocked using htcdev but nothing I found could help me downgrade HBOOT and do S-OFF again. Do not have SuperCID atm.
there is a thread on this your still rooted even though it says s on
Yeah, I am still rooted and can get into recovery and flash ROMs. But I am having issues with signal and I cannot flash anything because 1.20 does not support fastboot commands. I would like to downgrade but cannot. I tried flashing the customized p85img.zip with my CID T-MOB010 and it would just return to menu w/o any messages.
Make sure it's p85img in the file name.
Don't INSERT .zip at the end. It should automatically be a .zip file.
The file is named correctly.
There is a thread here ima try and find it were you can revert back to hboot 1.17.0000

i m facinf d same problm wit my sensation with bootloader unlocked thro htc dev. i m unable 2 flash any radios. Even i m unable to flash any custom firmware also. I need ur help if u found any solution.
either downgrade your hboot to 1.17 or update to ics 3.24 which has hboot 1.27 (unlocked) and you will have advance fastboot commands
Same exact problem here, semi-bricked my phone before I went over to Htcdev.... attempting to flash a p85img for HBOOT 1.17 or any p85img does nothing but parse it. Searched all day today couldn't find a thing to help...Others have suggested just waiting until Revolution comes out with an Unlock for 1.20 but I'm determined to find a solution for us.

[Q] Sensation ICS s-off

So. I have Sensation phone. When i've started it has a android 2.3 and i've got s-off and root by guide. Some days ago i've flash ICS from OTA zip and then unlock it at htcdev.com Now i have: unlocked, pyramid pvt ship s-off, and hboot 1.27.0000. So the problems are: i can't flash recovery, i can't root a phone and can't make backup. When i've started to flash su through stock recovery i got a error like "failed to verify whole file signature" or so. And with recovery flashing i've got the same. I've tried to make revolutionary s-off but there is no 1.27.0000 hboot version at list to get beta key.
So? How can i root my phone?
p.s. i've tried root it by supertool but nothing
If your full s-off, flash the 1.17 firmware found in the dev section, then flash the RUU for your carrier/region.
You should be back to stock, run revolutionary, s-off and root will be regained and then just be careful what you do from now on.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA
RUU -> revolutionary s-off, root, cwm or 4ext -> ICS OTA
right?
Just get a PG58IMG zip with cwm in it and flash via hboot. Then you can flash a new ROM or the su zip
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
The same story with cwm. When i tried to flash PG58IMG.zip with cwm by hboot i've got nothing (parsing PG58IMG.zip... and flashback to boot). Flashing PG58IMG.zip by stock recovery (flash zip from external storage) give nothing. Just error "failed to verify file signature".
Whatever you do... Don't flash ICS OTA.... Or you'll be stuck.... You'll have to wait for revolutionary to update to have those new hboot be s-off...
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4g with Beats Audio
Will revolutionary support new hboot(such as hboot1.23,1.27)in the future? My device is s-on with hboot 1.23. i just want to upgrade to ics.
Sent from my Sensation using XDA
I think revolutionary will be able to support the new ones in the future... There are unlock firmwares in the forum so no doubt rev will be able to do it...

So i have news about my sutyation. And one problem still avaliable - how to root
So i've flash RUU ICS. Then unlocked phone by HTCdev. Flash 4ext recovery from windows (fastboot flash recovery recovery.img) because couldn make it from htc standart recovery (signature verify error). Now i can flash custom roms, but still can't gain root. I've successfully flashed Superuser-3.0.7-efgh-signed.zip from 4ext recovery but busybox don't want install (reason can't get root privileges) and superuser app told me "access to root folder - failed".
Can anybody tell me what i have to do to get root?

dude you can get completely unlocked firmware...(by revolutionary that is)
here get the 3.32 unlocked firmware from this thread
assuming you are supercid...(if not as you are soff you can do it via fastboot i guess)
"fastboot oem writecid 11111111" without quotes
flash the firmware ...then you'll get complete access to fastboot commands..
then try flashing superuser again...and check your root privelages via root check basic (market app)

Root HTC Sensation ICS stock with S-OFF and Locked bootloader?

Hello,
I updated my HTC Sensation to stock ROM based on Android 4.0.3 ICS (build 3.33.401.6) now I want root it.
In bootloader mode I see that it result S-OFF and Bootloader LOCKED, following htcdev.com I try to unlock bootloader, in fastboot send file (Unlock-code.bin) but doesn't flash.

I've recently up and downgraded from 3.32 to 3.33 and back.
I've S-OFF'd my device with Revolutionary.
So on 3.32 my device showed HBOOT 1.27.XXXX (dunno right now), S-OFF and REVOLUTIONARY on top.
On 3.33 it said S-OFF and LOCKED... This is quite annoying because I like fastboot
This and a "slowdown issue" on Viper Rom made me to go back to 3.32 - just go to the Firmwares thread and download the PG58IMG.zip and put it on your SDCard - now boot to bootloader and flash the PG58IMG
By the way, normally you can flash any rom with S-OFF on, you just need to get root by something like zergRush (dunno right now which tool).
S-ON meant at least on my previous phone that you can change the content of /system only within recovery. You weren't able to change your stock recovery to CWM, so you had to use "fake-flash" - you actually apply an update.zip that contained your CWM Recovery...
S-OFF meant you can change /system on a running android and change your recovery and don't have to use FakeFlash (like 3 seconds faster )

[Tutorial] Update to hboot 2.15 via RUU

Running an RUU is only simple for those who haven't been messing with their devices, and that usually isn't us. Since I just did this, I want to write down the steps because I was not able to find easy answers.
This assumes your device is rooted with a different ROM installed. If that is not the case, then you can just download and run the RUU for your device, end of instructions.
Downloading the correct RUU
The most complete list of RUUs for Ville is found on androidruu.com
T-Mobile: http://www.androidruu.com/getdownlo..._10.30.50.08L_release_309489_signed_ICS_2.exe
HTC Europe: http://www.androidruu.com/getdownlo...28_10.27.50.08L_release_301814_signed_2_4.exe
There are RUU updates listed for other service providers, but I can't tell if they are JellyBean hboot 2.15 or not. If someone knows, I'll update this post.
Preparing your device
Make your device s-off if it isn't already. Why?
You will not have to relock the bootloader to perform the RUU update.
You will not have to flash the boot image separately.
If for some reason you can't or won't go s-off, you can still do this, but will have many more steps to follow.
Instructions to make your device s-off are here for firmwares below 3.14: Facepalm S-Off for HTC Devices One S, One XL, Droid DNA
Or you can use the HTC All-In-One Toolkit which helps you through the process.
Use the HTC All-In-One Toolkit (link above) to change the CID to match the RUU.
You needed Super CID to gain s-off, but it won't help you install RUUs. Even if you are Super CID (11111111), you must change your CID to match the RUU you are installing (mine is TMobile: T-MOB010). I know, kinda defeats the purpose of being Super CID, but the RUU won't succeed otherwise. If you are s-off, it is a one click operation using the All-In-One Toolkit.
Backup your device
Use Titanium backup to backup all your user apps so you can restore them afterwards. (No, don't restore system apps please!)
Also back up your ROM by booting into recovery mode and selecting Backup.
If you are only updating the hboot but keeping the same ROM, you can just restore the backup afterwards. Not sure why anyone would need to update the hboot without installing a new ROM, but then you also have a backup in case things go wrong.
Run the RUU
If you are s-on you will have to relock the bootloader by rebooting into the fastboot mode, connecting your device to the computer and running the command "fastboot oem lock". You will also have to follow the process again to unlock your bootloader after doing the update. Tutorials for that are found elsewhere.
1. Leave bootloader unlocked, and leave s-off as is. No need to go back to s-on or relock bootloader.
2. Run the RUU and wait while it updates the phone (Incidentally, it didn't even wipe my sd partition data!)
3. While you are still in bootloader mode (before booting up), use the All-In-One tool to install the TWRP S4 recovery. Or, if you don't want to use the tool, you'll have to download a recovery and use "fastboot flash recovery" followed by the name of the recovery img file.
4. Reboot bootloader and enter recovery mode
5. Restore from backup or Mount USB from TWRP and copy over the ROM and gapps package, flash, wipe cache, and you are up and running.
If you are s-on you will need to extract the boot.img from the zip you are flashing and flash that image separately with "fastboot flash boot boot.img"
Note that device still has the unlocked bootloader and is still s-off! :victory:
My device before: hboot 1.09, unlocked bootloader, Super CID, s-off (In layman's terms, this is a device with an unlocked bootloader so it can accept other ROMs, set to accept any service provider's RUU update via SuperCID, and has had write permission to the boot sector removed via s-off).
My device after: hboot 2.15, unlocked bootloader, T-MOB010 CID, s-off
If possible, I will answer your comments or questions by updating this post and I'll refer you back to here.

Can I use this tutorial to rollback to 2.15 or whatever works for ViperS rom with sense 4 after I flashed MaximusHD and firmware?
Now my phone is like this:
Hboot 2.16
Radio 1.20.50 (worst radio ever)
S-OFF
CID 11111111
The rom's with sense 5 (I tried just maximus because the others are not compatible with the new firmware, the sdcard mount point for multi user) are killing my battery more than twice faster compared with ViperS. 2h Display vs 5h on Viper.
Thank you!

Upgrading your hboot is a one way street, as far as I know. Can't you change the radio to something else?
I flashed Viper ROM. All the things are ok, gsm, wifi, etc just I can't see the internal memory like I should. I can browse to it file es file explorer but I need a method to default mount the new (4.2.2) location of it. Where is mounted by the internal memory in 4.1 JB? I discovered a file vold.fstab. Maybe I can change something like that somewhere to be able to use 4.1 ROM's again.
Sorry for OFF topic.

Hey I used your instructions and everything was perfect thank you. I used to upgarde and downgrade hboot even to restore the HTC one S
I got the RUU "Error: 159" again with both RUU from first post and testet with each common cid, but at the end I only got success with super cid and the TMO_US Ruu.
Now I am back on Hboot 2.15 and can flash again the newest custom-recovery, thank you very much.
I've heard about a flashabe standalone zip for the hboot 2.15 and found this:
Only for S4!
Boot into bootloader and enable fastboot.
Code:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
Wait for the black screen with white HTC symbol. (Like when you flash a RUU)
then enter:
Code:
fastboot flash zip modded_hboot_YOUR_NEEDED_HBOOT.zip
then if you want
Code:
fastboot oem boot
(Boot into your current ROM)
