Hi Guys.
Hooray! My TF finally turned on again this morning after 1 and a half days of not turning on.
Is there any way to clear/reset/wipe battery stats without being rooted. As in previous posts, my TF thinks the battery is dead when I restart it even though it is either full or nearly full. Thought I would try and wipe the battery stats to see if that helps. I don't want to root as I may have to send back to ASUS and if I can't turn it back on again, then I can't unroot.
I haven't been able to turn on for a day and a half, nor could I get into APX mode. I did however get the large depleted battery flash on screen when trying to start up yesterday.
Didn't you get a replaced one?
Battery Stats can be deleted from CWM, but I don't know if there's another way of doing it if you're not rooted. Also if you've got a new device, I will suggest you run it a couple of times to see if it works as intended or not before deleting the stats...

Hi Azureus.
Unfortunately I couldnt get a replacement as the box it came in was somehow thrown out with the christmas rubbish, so they wont take it back. They will only send it off to Asus for me. Im not sure now whether to root and then wipe stats, Just worried it wont come back on at all.

IIRC someone else posted something similar a while back.
Try a factory reset before you do anything else.

Do you reckon factory reset will help? The battery reads fine i android, its just when you try to power up it shows the depleted battery icon sometimes and then doesnt show anything other times, just doesnt start.

I can't say for certainty, I just remember that's what was posted. Trying to find that post but it's buried somewhere.
At the least it doesn't hurt to try a factory reset. If it still doesn't help than you can root after that.
I think your problem is related to the "deep sleep" trouble more than the battery stats itself.

Cheers Baseball.
I was reluctant to do a factory reset as this would require a restart and I really didnt want to wait a day and a half for the damn thing to start back up again. While I was at the shop today, I got them to check the charger, he in turn said it wasnt working and gave me a new one. Strange how my battery was telling me that I had 99%. Anyway, I bit the bullet and downgraded to .19 so I could root again and do the wipe battery stats. Low and behold, after my TF turned off to restart and do the install of the .19 software, it didnt turn back on. So I thought I would plug it in and then press the power button as this had become the norm. To my amazement, after plugging in and before I could press the power button, the TF fired up and continued to install the downgrade. Hooray!!!
I am now just pumping in the last 2% of battery needed then going to wipe cache, date, dalvik and battery, then hopefully, and I say this with fingers crossed, that that might be the end to my issues.

Hey all,
My wife and I both have Nexus S phones bought together sometime in Jan. Both phones are running stock Android 2.3.2, no rooting or anything done yet.
Right now her phone is behaving weirdly, while mine is perfectly normal. I suspect that her battery is messed up somehow, but I can't figure out what to do.
For the last day or so, when her phone hits <15% battery, the low battery warning pop-up appears.. and just keeps reappearing. No matter how many times the pop-up is acknowledged, the pop-up just does *not* go away until we connect the phone to a charger. Sort of an aggressive warning
This means that the phone won't let itself be put to sleep, keep the screen turned off or anything -- unless we connect the phone to a charger. I feel as though the battery is charging slowly, but I can't be sure.
Another weird thing we're just noticing is that when we lock the phone by pressing the power button, the screen goes off and comes back on immediately. We have to press the power button a second time for it to actually switch off the display. This behavior goes away if the phone is connected to the charger. My phone does not show this behaviour - display goes off the moment I press the power button, regardless of charging status.
Any thoughts?
Alternatively, could anyone point me to how to recalibrate the battery on the Nexus S? We removed the battery and put it back in (which is basically a soft reset apparently) and now it seems as though the battery has lost calibration or something. Have not done a hard reset yet -- should I go ahead and try that too?
Thoughts/help much appreciated. This is very worrisome!

Sounds like it has a glitch in the software. Try wiping everything. Go into settings, unmount the USB memory, erase the USB memory, then do a factory reset. That will reload the firmware back into active memory for the phone and wipe anything out of the USB memory that might be causing this issue. I usually do a factory reset with a new phone after I play with it for a while anyway, and it doesn't hurt the phone at all. You simply lose your texts, contacts, photos, etc. Just copy or backup anything you need to keep and wipe it clean.
If that doesn't fix it, then you need to get it replaced.

Once you do a factory reset, turn off the phone and fully charge it using the supplied AC charger (don't use the computer port to charge), unplug it and wait a minute then re-connect the charger again for another hour, unplug it, turn on the phone and start using it.
Let us know if the reset fixes the issue.
I was hoping to get away without a factory reset, but I guess we have no choice. Will give it a shot later today, and let you know how it goes. Thanks.

Well a factory reset is a lot easier and faster than a return/exchange and accomplishes the same thing.
A new symptom has just surfaced -- right now, when my wife tries to lock the phone, it locks the screen but won't switch off the display. No matter how many times the phone is restarted, or the lock button is pressed, the display never actually goes off (timeout has been varied from 15 secs to 1 minute, to no avail). Phone was completely charged as of today morning, so its not popping any low battery warnings.. just not switching off display.
It definitely seems like a battery/software glitch of some kind. We've not done the factory reset yet (she's at work, and this just started happening). Just thought I'd keep the thread updated.
I went ahead and factory reset the phone, as well as manually installed the 2.3.3 update. Figured between the system reset and the update, something should get fixed
Restoring settings was relatively painless (love how everything just gets set up the way it was due to backing up everything with Google). We have the phone charging now (overnight), will update again tomorrow morning once its full charged and my wife is using it as normal.
Fixed?
Hey @satishev
I have the exact same problem, did yours get fixed?
thanks
Hey crobbie, sorry I forgot to update the thread.
After factory reset and update to 2.3.3, the phone has been working normally (so far). All issues related to battery/display are gone! Looks like it was some kind of software glitch that was causing it to read battery state incorrectly (Another symptom I had noticed was that on alarm/dock mode it would keep flashing a charging icon, despite no charger being connected). Initially after reset, the battery usage was acting wonky, but that worked itself out and everything is showing what I expect.
If interested, a blog post summarizing process/ZIPs for all updates to date can be found here.
Thanks, bfksc for all your help
Hello again everyone, im here with another new problem. Out of the blue.
This is what happens.
-Phone is on
Hold down power
Shut off
-Phone shuts off screen goes blank
5 seconds pass
-Phone boots up... never touch a thing....
WTF?
It will not stay off, no matter the rom, I pulled the batter,SD,SIM nothing will shut it off unless i pull the battery.
I've downgraded the phone with the ace hack kit, ive re-rooted. nothing. I've searched, nothing. Anyone out there got a clue? Cus I dont.
FYI:when the phone rebooted after it flashed the downgrade during re-rooting, the alarm was going off and had the snooze button and everything, no matter what it wouldnt go off. but I just went on with the root process and now its gone, but the phone still wont stay off, something just screwed up!
That's hilarious, and I don't mean that literally. I am laughing though, kind of. Why? Because the same thing just happened to me last night. I know I said the exact same thing you said, possibly more. I have been on the same rom for a week and the only thing I have done was update a couple of apps from the market last night. Nothing else was done. Suddenly I can not power off the phone, it simply shuts off for five seconds and then reboots. I have wiped, restored, and tried flashing and the issue still persists. I am heavily researching and experimenting on what could be the cause for this issue. If I figure it out I will be sure to let you know.

Lol that is funny, what apps did you update?
I also have a problem with charging the phone and not sleeping, i was starting to think that it was just finaly getting worst
The only apps that were updated were Battery Monitor widget, Elixir, Xfinity TV, and one more which I can't remember right now. If you do get your phone to shut off, which I have been able to do twice, it may not wish to power back up, which is what mine does now also. (Laughing hysterically now.) Just pull the battery out and put it back in and it will power up. My feelings are that this may have been caused by some kind of update. Possibly from the market or from ATT. I have tried three different roms and it is still doing the same thing. I am about to wipe and restore the phone back to stock and see if it does it still. I will keep you appraised.

I am very confused by this, but I will have to try a restore to stock to see what happens. I do find it strange that two different people had this happen to their phones at about the same time and day. I will let you know how things progress later.
Edit: What version of Clock Work Mod recovery do you have installed and which rom were you running? Trying to go through the variables with this issue.

Yeah it is odd, could be coincidence, could be related, dunno, I dont see how it could be an ATT update when nearly all the roms here have that function disabled. Then again maybe you know something I don't
What did you do to get it to turn off finally? I dunno if I wanna try now that you said it wouldn't turn back on.
Also, what rom where you on when it started, I was on CM nightly #121 or maybe #120 I forget
I just happened to come across this in the general section
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1145495
no fix though
I am restoring an old rom and I will try changing the date as someone suggested to see what that does. If it does not work then I will have to wait until later tonight to return the phone to stock and go step by step from there.

Could this have something to do with partitioning the SD card? I think i remember reading that clockwork bricked some phones, is that true?
I believe CWM did have some problems partitioning before. Not sure if it still does. It seems like I have found a fix for myself. I turned off automatic system time and date and reset the date to January 2012. The phone seems to be working like it did before this occured. I will wait until tomorrow and change the date back to automatic and see if the power issue shows back up, but for now it seems ok.
Edit: I changed the time and date back to automatic and it is working like it should again. Did you get yours working again or is it still having problems?

Try leaving automatic off for a whole day. Then see if it is still having this problem. Also replied to pm but try this first to see if it gets past it and works..
willdo thanks a bunch

I had that problem, but it was the car app. I had to disable it in the settings.
seems this keeps happening more and more to people. i still have yet to solve my issue
well i retried setting the date on the phone but this time i chose 1/1/2011 and now the phone stays off when i turn it off which is nice but now i have to deal with having the wrong date
I am now under the assumption that my TF thinks the battery is dead even though there was a full charge in it before I shut it down yesterday. I have been having issues regarding turning it on and couldn't even get into APX mode. I have just tried APX again and manged to get connected, started to run NVflash, then the screen came on showing the large battery image with the red power amount tne just disconnected. I had the TF on charge all night to so there should be full battery.
Anyone else have this issue or know about a fix?
Thanks

Can you get to recovery? Have you tried reseting battery stats?
Also are you using stock charger or have you charged the tablet with another device?

Cheers for your reply m8. At this moment in time, I can't get into anything. Managed to get APX mode earlier, but like I say, it shut down thinking it had no battery, even though it should have been full. Yes it is stock charger and not I haven't used any other method of charging. I am unrooted and stock so other than using CWM, I don't know how to wipe battery stats. Will wiping Battery stats help? What does it wipe?
Thanks

Well I emailed ASUS this morning and have got an email back from them saying it needs to go for service. Just filled out the form for RMA, now just waiting for return details.
Gutted, not even 4 weeks old.

Wiping battery stats clears the data that the device has of the battery. Its like reseting or recalibrating it if the device's battery level isn't displayed as it should be.
EDIT: Seems you posted before I finished with this one... Since ASUS told you to service it, it might came like that from the start. Good thing you didn't root or install a custom ROM.

Hi, so i say batteries because i already tried 3 different ones. My problem started in gingerbread when i could not charge pass 50~60%, won't even matter how much time i have it "charging", then i rooted and install the AT&T release of ICS 4.0.4, then some days later it started to won't charge pass 1% and sometimes lowers to 0% and if i disconnect turns off, and connected never charges. I have tried with different chargers also, i have tried every forum "solution", factory resetting, procedure and no luck. If i go into CWM and delete batterystats or to do anything, the phone doesn't turn off, that's weird also. I bought an external charger and charged the three batteries to full, and when i put it in the phone, android still says 1% or 0% and turns off if i disconnect.
So anybody who can help me with this, i would extremely grateful. Thanks

The thing that confuses me the most, is that i charged every battery I've tried in an external charger, so the battery IS actually full, but when i put it in the phone, android still says 1% or even 0%. :crying:

Charge the battery in another phone or device, if you can. That would be the only option.
To be honest it sounds like something you may have installed or run on your phone, you said it started only a few days after upgrading to ICS which I'm guessing is how long it took you to finish restoring everything from GB.
My advice is to do a complete reset to the phone using kies, let it run for a few days with the minimal stuff you need and then start adding few apps at a time and wait to see if everything runs ok.

He can't do anything to it, no battery life, it will get stuck at flash or reset (kies) and brick.
The charger doe not charge, so he can;t even do it with the usb plugged. If he had power there are lot's of thing to test, ODIN or flash.

I'm out of warranty time now.
He said he already used an external charger and it didn't help, unless all 3 of his batteries are trash it's an issue with the phone.
He also said as long as his phone stays connected it runs fine so using kies should work I guess.
If nothing works I'd say it's some type of hardware issue and that means he will have to pay for a repair or he will have to upgrade.

Just take it to a small shop that unlocks or fixes phones, something small but nice looking, with bunch of phones for sale. Not Bestbuy or something)
They would usually ship the phone to a factory for fixing, that means they ship it to Samsung facility where some dude does work on the side.
I had my main board replaced to OEM for $190 where Rogers doing same would have charged me $420.
Your problem should not cost much, but you can;t put price on how relived you would be once it's fixed)

Hi, just to make an update, i did uninstall some stuff with root uninstaller, now the battery charges!! BUT to about 15~17%, then starts to discharge itself even connected to a charger. :crying:
So I suggest to do what I said before, start from fresh and install slowly, something must have screwed with your rom.

Would you recommend to install the stock release of ICS 4.0.4 or a custom rom? if so which is the best ?Im considering using this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1763195. Thank you
OK, so i installed this custom rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1763195, the battery charges to about 19%, then starts discharging itself being connected to the charger. This is driving me crazy, i have tried so may things and nothing, been a few weeks without using the phone normally. :crying:
First go fresh stock using kies to see if the issue still persists, if it does it's probably a hardware issue. If you know someone that has a device with a battery thats works fine and it fits your device ask him to try it out so you can be certain it's your device and not all of your batteries.

Charge it to 100% and turn it off over the night or 24h as I did, simple as that and it will restore it self... Don't wipe or reflash it, doesn't help, at least it didn't for me but turning it of COMPLETLY did the trick

If that doesn't work I read somewhere that charging to full power then wiping and flashing the latest stock blob can help. How to do that is described here for an older update:

So when i turn on my tablet works just fine. The battery level is normal. And get to 1% and then Power Off. Works good, Now I'm Happy, This Tablet is the best inversion of this Year :victory:
