Google navigation, changing/ed views - General Topics

Hey all.
Edit: TAP THE COMPASS ICON.
It will change colour momentarily to yellow and that will switch views.
Sorry if this is in the wrong section.
Google searches weren't helpful in this instance.
It used to be a third person view of the blue arrow in Google navigation. It was intuitive and felt natural. I don't know what I did, but i changed it to birds eye view (viewing from the top).
Just wondering how this can be changed? It is in this view on my girlfriends desire and my sgs2
Thanks a lot.

[Q] Hide activity bar?

As per the title, is it possible to hide the activity/notification bar from the bottom of the screen, particularly when viewing movies or playing games?
I would assume so, but it might have to be done by the app that you're using. It does so in the Youtube app, it makes the buttons disappear and replaces them with tiny dark dots so I would assume that as a dev, someone could do the same. But I dont recall there being an option to do it.
No?
I don't think so, however devs can move it, like in the game Spirit, they place it on the left so it's as though you're getting more screen space. However, I don't think you can fully remove it, as it's the main way of navigating the device. Hope this helps!
The dots are called lights out mode
you can use gesture control to hide the bottom bar

(Guide) Navigation Bar keyboard color

I've had the phone for one day and it's a sexy phone. However I was encountering an annoyance with the navigation bar (the bottom strip with the home button and back button.) There is an option to change the navigation bar background color (settings > display > navigation bar > background color) but the issue is that it only applies when the keyboard is not present. I set my color to black, but everytime I would send a text or type anything the bottom navigation bar would switch to default white. I like my dark theme and this was a YUGE issue for me, but some people may enjoy the contrast or be fine with white.
The fix I found is a program called "NavBar Apps"
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.damianpiwowarski.navbarapps
It works without root (which is not yet possible) and allows a user to set a static color for the navigation bar, plus other options like battery or dynamic nav bar color from current application. I don't use these features as I enjoy my solid black, but they are interesting to try.
In my opinion static color for the nav bar is the best as I strongly dislike the changing of solid colors between open and closed keyboard.
Hopefully this is helpful, peace

This was great. Thank for sharing. ?
Great! Thanks! Anything we can do about notifications background being white even if I have a black theme?

Make an exception in your app killers
Thank you so much! I realized, however, that the app does need to be running in the background for the color fix to work. Which is fine as long as my nav bar matches my black keyboard
Awesome, it works perfectly!
That's all well and good, but a reminder: static images burn in on AMOLED screens. Perhaps Sammy set it to change as a preventative measure.
I just got the s8+ and I am wondering if there is a way to make the keyboard larger on the screen. Thanks!

This isn't quite the place to post your question.
However
While the Samsung Keyboard is open, press the key that looks like a gear, and select "Keyboard size and layout."
Make sure to always thoroughly check app settings!

I'm using SwiftKey. Wonderful app.
Hi, I got my s8+ a couple of days ago and I am using a black theme from Samsung which indeed doesn't theme the nav bar when the keyboard is open.
I am afraid to root it right away and if this works then I am all for it.
Question: themes from the Samsung store only change the color of the built-in apps but not the 3rd party apps like whatsapp.
Even the color of the notifications are still white. Any ideas?

Then just go for black navigation bar. No burn in with shut down pixels.

I was thinking more of the navigation buttons themselves. The image of the keys inverts when the bar is white.

There are actually many people reporting burn in on the navigation buttons, sadly. I was looking for a way to keep the bar fully functional but invisible. Do you guys know anyway to do it? Thanks

I use All In One Gestures to activate immersive mode. Unfortunately the keyboard (and a few other random things) don't work while in immersive mode, so I set an edge gesture at the bottom of the screen to deactivate it if I need to use the keyboard.
I also set navigation to edge gestures so I don't need to exit immersive mode often.

I think all of this is a lot o hassle. Mine's coming today and I'll try some immersive mode options, but will keep looking for the invisible icons idea as this would change absolutely nothing on my daily use of the device.

Weird darker bar and navigation buttons appearing over other apps

Recently I've noticed that a dark low opacity stripe has appeared on my phone, from the top to about a quarter of the top of the phone, it is constantly there, although it is a lot easier to see on darker backgrounds, and alongside it there are transparent navigation buttons on the same spot they normally are. I've already done the usual reboot, changed launchers and all that, anyone else having this problem or know how to fix it? Can't really post a picture of it since screenshotting doesn't actually show the dark areas

Is there a way to force status bar icons to the right?

After days of searching for a way to force proper full screen mode WITHOUT the thick black bar I finally found one. However, it puts all notification/status icons already on the left under the camera. I'm so close to a perfect solution but this one thing is in my way.
Ideally I'd like to move all icons right but messing with the padding might be a good plan B.
Please help. It's driving me mental.
If you are referring to any notification icon and/or the clock, there really isn't any way to move those without doing a bunch of work on a rooted device creating your own theme basically. Also what thick black bar are you talking about for fullscreen? the bars are only present if whatever is being displayed isn't a 20:9 ratio. so any 16:9 (like most 1080p) media will get the bars. but everything else should be full screen by ensuring Setting>Display>Advanced>Front camera display area is on the right setting.

That's disappointing.
I have managed to move the clock to the right with edXposed via Gravitybox. It's just notifications now. Don't suppose you'd know if it's possible to disable the icons but still have notifications for those apps show up in the notification drop-down?
And that camera display area, when enabled, is the black bar I'm talking about. It's unsightly and a waste of space. Using the mod I found, all apps but Ookla Speed Test fill the ENTIRE to screen beautifully with no essential UI elements blocked by the camera. Landscape or portrait.

Only thing I can think of for the notifications is make them all "Other" instead of important. you would have to do that per app and per notification type that each app shows. Long clicking them in the drop down gives you the option to change it there. But that also means you need to enable "important and other notifications" on lock screen if you want them to show up there.; however, I can't find a way to allow "other" notifications to display on the Ambient display. I do use the AOD notify app and that could be a nice workaround for that as that will still light up for notifications that are labeled as "other" over the Ambient display and you can then color code each app to what you want.

Thanks for the tip. I changed the media apps I use to not important and that seems to have taken care of my issue for the most part.
Its not a perfect solution but it's the best and most helpful so far. Thank you, mate.

Hey @shadowofdeth, I have bought the OP8 recently and I too wish to reduce the height of the status bar(I don't mind the punch hole using the app space since most apps have the logo only at the top left). You said you have used a mod to reduce the space. Was it the edXposed or is it something else? Thanks in advance

Weird Android sensor disable icon color.

Greetings everyone.
I've toggled sensor disable option in programming options in my Android phone and I'm able to manualy shut down all: camera, gps, microphone etc., just from quick menu bar at the top. However since a while, I've observed something weird. While sensors are disabled (icon is active - blue circle around appear), sometimes the icon pattern changes color from white to black.
It is happening only when sensor disable option in ON and it never ever happend with any other icons, like WIFI, GPS, Bluetooth, etc.
I'm using Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite (with stock OEM theme) and at this phone icon pattern to disable al sensors is a "life line", like line in hospital devices to checking pulse. While icon is ON, it's appearing to be in blue circle and "life line" is white; however sometimes this "line" become very dark, nearly black.
Does some1 know what does it mean ? Maybe some app is bypassing and turning some hardware on ?
I hope some1 had same situation or know what is it about, I was trying to google it but there's not even a piece of byte information about this (mal)function apperiance.
