Switched to Moto Atrix4g - Captivate General

Pick up a free Atrix4g over the weekend. So far the increase in speed its just amazing over the Captivate. Hope it doesnt slow down as I slowly add back the apps.

Uhhhhhh....ok...

I will still be hanging around in Captivate forum. Love the Amoled screen still and will start to fine tune my Captivate until I get my hands on Galaxy SII or III this coming Christmas.

Cool story, bro

Agree... real cool. Not sure if they realize that the cappy can be blazing fast with some tweaks. In fact, mine runs much better than my daughter's atrix 4g that she purchased before the holidays.

Uhhh... "they" do.

Agreed. I'm a firm believer that my Cappy is running faster than some of my friend's dual core phones when I have MIUI installed on it.
Long live the Captivate. I'm gonna rock this baby out until it NEEDS to get replaced.

That's what she said

I thought the same - as in there wasn't really any bad lag. After switching to a SGSII, I'll say that's not exactly true
But the Cappy was an awesome phone.

Sometimes these posts hurt my feelings

How is the sound quality?

Beside the gain in processing speed that a working fast locking GPS is a dream come true for me.

Old processor is the same as galaxy s first gen.

Hi, the processor on this phone is crap compairing to Tegra 2. I run Asphalt 6 on the infuse and G2X the infuse is crap skipping frames even the nexus s is skipping frames. But the tegra 2 on G2x is extreamly smooth. So why have the infuse last Gen phone?
Useless post is useless post. Derp derp.
I wanted a bigger screen..dualcore?? Im waiting on the quad core
Why is it useless don't people come here to know what's better and what's not on the phones? Or u just bought it and u think its the best phone? ATT is bullshitting people and selling old Gen as new instead of getting the gs2 they want to sell this for 4-5 months and make money then bring the gs2 when it's going to be 6 months old we America is way behind rest of the world with technology
What u going to do with bigger screen if it's going to lag on new app's? U gonna look at the laggy screen
And the flash video is very had on the infuse try to watch and u'll see,
On dual core is smooth.
When it reaches that point i will upgrade..until then im loving my new phone..vids play fine
Good job, you've managed to be a an asshole on the internet. What an accomplishment. Congratulations

Already have my money waiting for a off-contract buy. :3
There is no lag whatsoever on my infuse....its not an old Gen phone...captivate does not have super amoled plus...it does not have 4.5"...it doesn't have flash...it doesn't have 8 MP camera...it is not as thin as infuse...I know infuse has single overclocked core....they overclocked because now the chip/ hardware supports the power and 1.2ghz

Jump on down from your high horse bro. When I come to XDA I come to read USEFUL posts. Yours is NOT USEFUL. Deal with it.
Its about user experience.
I am an engineer for a very large Telecom vendor. Trust me, we all are sold the firt level software on a long term expandable hardware.
ALL hardware is capable of some evolution. Are you mad that fiber optics can carry 100gig per second when ten years ago it was only 20gig?
Does that mean new fiber is no better than old fiber?
Technology truly is software based. You don't always need to double the hardware to achieve the same user experience. Sometimes simply better crafting software can make all the difference.

P.s. I think the development teams on this site have made that point. That's why you are on XDA in first place right? This is not a hardware development site.

Atrix or inspire?

Please answer if you have had both so I can get good advice. The inspire battery isnt a big deal because I can buy another one. And as far as the atrix,I'm kind of a social person so motyrblur won't be a bad thing to me. Please kick me in the rite way loll. I've been pulling my hair out trying to decide

Best Buy carries the Atrix for $99.99 on contract, so if you're for hardware or raw performance I'd go the Atrix path. I personally don't like the Inspire, so I guess that discounts my opinion, but I'd get an Atrix, root it, and maybe flash a custom ROM on it if you don't like MotoBlur or any of options that ADW or Launcher Pro have to offer.
I have the atrix and to be honest with you ... I hate it. Just try and wait it out for for a better phone to be released.
I'd personally say Atrix. It is quite sluggish at times but im sure it can be solved with a software update. the reason is that you will be future proofed and also 1080p recording is in the works.
Thanks guys. Things is I can't wait for a better phone because I have to make my decision Tuesday. Please, more opinions
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA Premium App
I have an Atrix, and I love it. Those that say the phone is sluggish don't know what they're talking about or have a ton of rouge apps running in the background. Just use an alternate launcher and you shouldnt have any complaints.
I would only recommend you go for the inspire if you consider camera quality a top priority or care about the locked bootloader on the atrix (which has almost been worked around anyway).

I have THE Inspire and am VERY happy with it. I was between the two myself and the deciding factors for me were the larger screen, no motoblur, and the awesome development community. If you are into modding your phone, the Inspire has it hands down. My Inspire is running @ 1.4ghz and is noticeably faster than the Atrix's that two of my coworkers have. If you aren't going to root it, or just want to retheme it, than IMO it's just a choice between features.
I really need fast performance, style and sturdyness. I love the 4.3 inch but 4 isn't that bad. Its all I've had so far lol. I wish I could have both to test out lol

I have the inspire and love this phone. Its my second android phone after being with the iphone for the past few years.O and Its free at best buy this week with a new two year or upgrade with 2 yr.
Thanks for all the replies. I think I'm gonna go with the atrix for 2 reasons. First is gorilla glass. I'm known for keeping a lighter or keys in the same pocket as my phone and I've scratched many screens. Also I hate screen protectors. Second is actually 2 reasons in one. Sound quality and the fact that the only thing that drags me towards htc and sense is the evo. I actually have the evo,and its one sexy beast. But I feel like the inspire isn't even up to the evos standards when it comes to the epicness of the phone. The evo set a high standard and still after over a year holds its ground against any other phone on the market. People are still paying 200 dollars for it with a new contract, but the inspire just don't seem to get that much hype. I really like htc's builds and how sturdy there devices are,but I'm no stranger to the plastic feel. I've owned nothing but samsungs ( ) so the atrix wouldn't be a problem on that end. The only thing(s) that is still giving me doubt is the fact that I really wanted to upgrade to a 4.3 inch screen, and that with the atrix it looks as if everything is really tiny, even the keyboard. Please,if anyone has had both, tell me why you decided to go with what phone.

Just updating here for people who may be stuck in the position I was but I went with the inspire, and folks until you hold it in your hands, you wouldn't know its awsomeness. I stated it wasn't as good as the EVO,but I have both and this thing blows the EVO away. And as far as battery life,im a heavy user and I make it through the day off a charge. That's with very heavy usage. I did tweak a few things but nothing I even noticed. Brightness down to 47% and turned off HTC mail sync and news sync. Saves a lot. Great phone here, bada ba ba,I'm loving it

will the droid charge ever...

Will the droid charge ever be supported by Cyanogen?
Reason I ask is because I just picked up the droid incredible 2, which is a great phone and even better on battery life than any other android phone I've had before (evo, nexus s), and I'm still on my 14 day trial but I'm considering the droid charge. I love the amoled screen on sammy, makes all other screens look washed out, and the vanilla look and speed. So cyanogen for droid charge ever? How are the roms without TW and how is battery life on the charge?
Last question, how does the charge feel in the pocket? I remember my evo was like a brick, and the nexus s was like nothing compared to it. The droid inc 2 is about the same as the nexus s. Thanks in advance.

I just don't like TW. It really lags the phone, comapred to the nexus s which has the same hardware but stock vanilla. That is why I'm asking about CM7, but I'm sure there are other roms out there which has taken the TW out of it right? I'm just in the fence between this phone and the droid inc 2.
Let me try to give some input on the droid inc 2 and maybe you guys can give me some feedback on what your experiences are with the charge.
-very light, feels great in the pocket
-sense, a couple or roms being developed now with addition of 3.0 sense but I can live without
-no 4g, not that I have 4g in my city, but it is offered at some places I usuallly go to
-already has a beta cm7, which runs nearly perfect, very stable
-very fast phone, browsing the web and opening up apps
-battery life is best from my experience, can easily get by with one day with moderate/heavy use with leftover juice
I'm just trying to decide wich one to keep with the help of people who already have the charge and can talk about the pros and cons of the phone. Thanks again.
If the 4g is not that important to you, then your current phone has better hardware except for the screen.
I personally don't know how I survived without 4g for this long.

agreed...4 g is faster than my wifi right now. Screen is SICK. Can't go to a bionic from this, only a 4g GSII. If it exists.
I hate to say it but I'm getting the d3. I'm going to sell this phone. I hate how slow it is and knowing samsung updates won't come fast leaks are great but leaks are leaks. 4g is killing my battery and I'm always on wifi anyways. And oh who doesn't miss the keyboard. Locked isn't a problem im sure it will be unlocked the same way the atrix was and motorola left fastboot on it which means there is more to come. Just my opinion and i know the trolls will come.

r2DoesInc has a Charge and is going to work on porting OMGB and OMFGB to it, so we'll have at least those for AOSP ROMs then. Once one AOSP ROM is done and working, it should be easier to port others to the phone then as well. It will happen at some point, the only problem is, it could take a while to happen.
To put things in context, the Fascinate, which came out about 10 months ago and is extremely similar to the Charge specs-wise, has just -- literally in the past few days -- gotten more-or-less fully functional CM7.
As far as the Incredible 2 goes, it's a decent but thoroughly underwhelming phone considering it came out so recently. Single-core, no 4G, okay but not great screen...it really is more comparable to the Fascinate than to the Charge or Droid X2.
Honestly, if you have a choice, you'd be better off waiting for the Droid Bionic, which will finally mate a dual-core processor with 4G.
i tell you 4g is so sweet. I came from a dx and i knew the bonic was coming out when i bought the charge. I dont regret at all upgrading. As i hated Blur and there screens are bad. TouchWiz is not that bad to me. I think you will be very happy with the charge. I am rooted and on humble 1.3 and voodoo kernel and my benchmarks are as high as my droid x on Gingerbread. I dont see qhy everyone loves Motorola after owning my charge.
Good luck buddy

And twice that fast posted by others like in Dallas area. I am a truck driver I am in and out of 4G areas all the time. I have a situation where I had to pay for the tethering right now my son was in a terrible crash and we have been in the Vanderbilt hospital in Nashville since Sat. $30 for 2Gigs...ugh. how do these roms run compared to stock? I have seen the pictures but no videos, maybe somebody can post one and compare it to something else. Honestly the droid inc 2 has got pretty much the same specs as the charge exept no 4g and more ram. The thing that I love about the charge is that it will be future proof with the 4g and the lovely screen.
How about the droid 3? anybody seen one yet? It just seems appealing because of the dual core and front camera, but I would hate the extra bulkiness from the keyboard. So hard to decide on a phone which will be a solid phone for the 2 years.

ok i think im sold..

samsung captivate display just blew me away and that phone is older then our mt4g's. Yea the mt4g owns the captivate in other areas but side 2 side while i was outside letting my kids play i couldnt read or see a damn thing on my mt4g compared to the captivates superior amoled display. Its just ridiculous and kinda embarrasing actually. I think my choice for the samsung hercules or galaxy s 2 if i go to att b4 merger happens just got easier. I love htc for there superior quality feel and looks of the phone but display while your outside plays a huge factor i think for most anyone considering a smartphone these days. If htc had amoled display i think i would be in heaven lol

actually i got a good display too and i just realized my brightness was set all the way down haha, but im still sold on amoled vs super lcd that the mt4g has. Even with brightness all the way up, side by side the amoled pwns the mt4g display wether its sunny or dark!

Um what? I just got 4.8 while on 3G. I'll test 4G sometime this week when I have it.
I don't like the high white point of S-AMOLED. Everything looks very blue. Plus I feel restricted to use only dark or predominately black backgrounds in order to conserve battery, and web browsing eats battery at a prodigious rate. All that white...
I did enjoy my Vibrant, which I had before my MT4G, mainly because it was a 4" screen, which is my sweet spot, and the SGS's wonderful Wolfson DAC. Sound quality was phenomenal on that phone.
It almost makes me want to pick up a Galaxy S 4G, but the lack of CyanogenMod/AOSP ROMs really does keep me on my Glacier.
Samsung is mopping up their mess they made with the vibrant(at least with developers) when they offered cyanogenmod and team members those free galaxy s 2 phones it was like hey were sorry please hack our phones and put custom roms on it. Thats a big step forward for a company like samsung to take and win over a community, especially with their superior displays and somewhat easier methods of unlocking their phones.

Is the LG G2X worth to upgrade to from a Samsung Vibrant

I have a Vibrant w/ CM7 on it. Was wondering if this phone is worth the upgrade. I love the screen on the Vibrant, and know this is a bit of a downgrade, but everything else just seems so worth it. And yes i would be putting CM7 on this as well.

Definitely worth the upgrade. Only thing the Vibrant has over this phone is the Super Amoled. The G2x has a faster processor, 1080p Video recording, front facing camera, 8 megapixel camera, 4g (feels way faster than my myTouch 4g and G2x) one of the loudest speakers I've heard on a smartphone and I've owned numerous of smartphone's (Nexus One, Nexus S, myTouch 4g, G2, Vibrant, HD7 etc.). The screen has a nice curve around the edge that feels so good when swiping across pages, pictures etc. The issues this phone has is mainly software based since Gingerbread isn't intended for dual core. ICE CREAM SANDWICH should fix this issue if we will ever get an official release from LG. If not there's always XDA devs that will be more than willing to bring this update to the G2x.

dude get the g2x it is beast and guarantee the fastest phone avail stateside, its so responsive, and yea the vibrant has the super amoled but dude the g2x screen is gorgeous, especially the contrast with the ips display i think it contends with amoled just not plus, oh camera is very sweet, game play is sick and browsing is super fast , ounce718 basically said what i was gona say , only thing i wont agree with him with is gingerbread not being optimized for dual core... well it is , i think what are phones came with ( froyo) isnt
Yes unless you love the super amoled. Everything else smashes the vibrant.

Not to argue, but my reason behind saying gingerbread isn't optimized is that when Google created gingerbread there was no dual core around. The software had single core in mind. G2x users are still experiencing random reboots, but not as frequent as before.

Because the gb update is still ****!!! Cmon I think there even saying T-Mobile pulled the update to fix some bugs and gb is more optimized for dual core then froyo is what I was getting at. Dude gb is definitely good for dual core especially if optimized rite and all the bugs are worked out u can manage ur apps better and gb has a built in task killer if u choose to use it and I/0 is better. Oh and better battery management, idk I would say gb bug free is definitely great for dual core phones look at the sgs 2
Hands down a major upgrade!! I've had a mint vibrant sitting around the whole time I've had a G2x, and never have seriously considered using it during the trials and tribulations with the G2x. The GPS is all but unusable, and while the screen is very contrasty, saturated and bright, it's also grainy, not very sharp for the resolution specs. I prefer the sharpness and clarity of the G2x IPS LCD.
I ended up getting a second G2x for testing/hacking and sold the Vibrant. A good phone, but the useless GPS was completely unacceptable.

Yes, Gingerbread is more efficient and stable than Froyo hands down. I read the post about someone claiming the Gingerbread update being pulled. Hopefully it's true and LG gives us a better version of the update.

Wait for the Samsung Galaxy S II to appear in the US. I hear it's coming August. I have it now, bought out from over seas though. You can buy it from overseas and use At & t for using the 3G/4G speeds. And AT&T has a $50 unlimited talk, text, and data. Galaxy S II doesn't show up as a smartphone so you don't have to pay extra for data plan.

Gave vibrant to wife I took the g2x. Honestly like said before the g2x screen imo is better than the vibrants samoled but samoled plus is better I'm sure..
That said sold the vibrant and got a g2x for my wife....
I was gonna wait for a SGSII Varient, or the Hercules, but i just didnt feel like waiting for the SGSII, and the Hercules screen is probably going to be too big. So i went out and bought it.
Gonna root and put CM7 on it. Hope its worth it!
Thanks everyone!
Its definitely worth it u will be happy your video camera will do 30 fps. , u will still have screenshot, just hold power down u will see the menu, cm increased data speeds, fixed battery issues, there's touch to focus for the camera, alot of nice **** that cm has incorporated into our phone download the latest nightly it is very stable and more stable then rc1 plus more stuff has been incorporated since rc1. Oh and we have voodoo sound for the g2x which is sick just flash fauxs kernel I think he's the only one with the loading module in his kernel, and we also have tons of roms to choose from if u ain't feeling cm, I love my phone with cm tho, the g2x is the best phone state side
Where does it say that the G2x has an IPS display? I thought the resolution on our G2x is 800x400?

IPS refers to the technology used in the display. It has nothing to do with resolution
Just wait another month and get the Hercules or SGSII variant.

IPS = In Plane Switching. Here is a link explaining the technology.

Thank you sir. I half knew what it was but only remember seeing it implented on phones with resolutions higher than 800x400. But that has cleared up my confusion.
