[Q] Asus eeepad transformer wont play any movies. - General Questions and Answers

Hello.
I just got my first android tablet today and transfered 2 720p movies, one mkv and one mp4.
But no matter if i use stock player, rockplayer or MX video player the stupid thing wont play anything
What is wrong? it works flawless on my optimus 2x, so why not on an actual 720p tablet screen?

Not sure why you are having this problem. I would try doing a factory reset. This often fixes the problems like this.
Please hit the thank you button if i helped!

I opened the app for the first time for about 12 hours ago, another factory reset wont help.
Include mynet app that was with the tablet force quits itself when i try to browse videofiles that lays on the 32gb external sd.
Edit:
I found out that when i tried an dvd mp4 movie at 1.4gb size the vodeoplayer froze with sound but no picture like the video still continued even after i quitted all media apps.
So if ics still wont play mp4 files after it arrives for my tablet im gonna get my money back for not getting what i payd for.
So then my question will now be:
Do you know about an gpu acellerated video converter that converts mkv or mp4 to avi? that seems to be the only format compatible for now...

If no video is coming threw on anything, then it is not the app, but the tablet software. If you are thinking about getting rid of it, a factory reset could not hurt to try.

Xvid playback using built-in player

I did some searching, but all the posts appear to be older, and are discussing downloaded players. At work, we all have Droid Xs. My boss, recently reset his, and was working on downloading some video players. We download a lot of xvid files, and he wanted to be able to play them. Well, it appears one of his downloads has updated the built-in player to play xvid. The reason I think this is because after he dumped about 20 videos on there for transport, most...about 16 of them, had thumbnails in the gallery. I tried playing one, and loads directly up, and even has the little HDMI icon in the top corner. I went through the players he downloaded, and none of those appear to have the HDMI option. I've been trying to figure this out so that I can replicate it.
Has anyone else done this? I don't have the phone in front of me, but I know he got arcmedia and youplayer. I'm not sure what else, but I figure you guys may have some ideas.
I guess I've stumped the minds here. Thanks for looking.
UPDATE:
I just checked my phone, and now I'm able to playback one of the files. The strange part is that after seeing it happen on his phone, I copied the same file to mine, and couldn't play it. Gave the usual unsupported error. But today, I look at my phone, and there's a thumbnail of the video in the gallery. I click on it, and it starts playing, with the little HDMI option in the corner. WTF is going on here? I still have one file that won't play that I put on there. Does the built-in player support Xvid with certain options enabled/disabled?

[Q] Video format downloading.

I just got my Transformer and I started to download some of my movies to the MicroSD. Alot of the movies that I tried to download wouldnt even download. I kept getting an error saying this device doesnt support WMV or MP4 format. And it stopped the download. I know these movies work on android because I watch them on my Inspire. Do I need to download an aftermarket movie player?

Don't just think that "it works on Android because it works on this or that model". If that were the case, mkv would be supported since Froyo, considering the stock player in the Galaxy Tab had no problem with them.
However your issue seems more simple than that! Try another browser, it might fix it. Also the two best video players for Android are Dice Player and MX Player. First isn't free but is awesomer.

if you are on win 7 then a message should pop up that has an option "Copy anyways" just click that
How are you trying to download them? What browser are you using and where are you trying to download from? If you mean your just trying to copy files over from your computer to the Transformer then as mrevankyle stated the warning should still give you the option to copy over your files regardless if it will play or not. If your trying to download from the internet then you might want to try something like a torrent app to download your movies as it's a dedicated downloading app.

No sound in 720p .mkv, how fix?

I transfered some 720p .mkv files to my tablet (external sd) and the video plays fine in both the built in player and in mx player but I don't get any sound. If I play a smaller .avi file it plays fine with sound in both players. Any ideas?
Sorry if it has been posted before.
try using another player like diceplayer. I used to have this problem when playing mini 720p with the stock player, but not with the diceplayer
I'll just leave this here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1686675
Long story short: use software decoding for the audio.
Dice player works fine. Can I somehow watch full screen with out the black row with the three dots in de bottom?
Starting to hate this tablet more and more every day..
If you're rooted, get GMD GestureControl from the Play Store, and install Busybox.
Im noot rooted. Will probably root when a good port of AOKP is out

Why hate this tablet? it's the 3rd best atm!
And it's not the tablet's fault! Your video might have an unsupported audio format, or it may be corrupted.. Try playing the video from your tab on the pc. And can you precise what format is the audio?

I hate the lag when i browse the internet, my SGS is faster when scrolling around on internet pages. The internet apps I have tried freezes up ang gives FC at least 5 times every time i on the internet.
And many other things.
The videos works fine on my PC. It worked once with dice player but now I don't get any sound with dice player =/

New device, new fw, new problems. Most will be fixed by updates. The build.prop tweaks, for instance, made my .17 DE internet browsing _in powersave mode_ totally lag free (!).
You should wait for firmware updates, though. I'm afraid of what will happen if you accidentally brick your device.
Sound in players is accomplished by choosing software decoding of the audio.

Are you re-encoding video for playback?

So I'm looking at the infinity but was wanting to check on what the experiences most people are having with video playback.
How are you playing your files, streaming? BSPlayer, SdCard or onboard.
If you are encoding your files or just playing the native mkv/mpg files, subtitles etc.
I'd be very excited if you're able to play 1080p at high profile with 20+ fps.
I can stream my 1080p mkvs over wlan and play them with bsplayer @ ~ 23 fps with no recoding involved.

this. No need to do anything. Just drop the movie on your memory card and you are good to go. BS Player can handle anything.

Sweet, still would like some specifics on what file types people are able to play.

BS Player can handle everything. MKV, AVI, FLV, MP4, its played everything i have thrown at it. I was even able to stream wmv from my pc.
There is a new quirk that has been forcing me to re-encode some videos lately.
About 1 out of 3 MKV files I have found (usually TV shows dowloaded online) have time/position information that is not readable by any android media player. What this means is that the file plays fine, but if you lose your place it is totally impossible to restart from any point other than the very beginning. So if you are 30 minutes into a 40 minute TV show there is absolutely no way to get back to the 30 minute point other than to play the whole MKV over again.
This has become VERY common lately. I have found no file characteristics that allow me to identify which MKV files have this problem. Only way to know is trial and error. Only thing to do with these files is to re-encode.
To check a file for this quirk just open it with any media player and then try to advance the position slider to some point in the middle of the video. When you let go the slider will go right back to the beginning. These videos can only be played start to finish and if you close the player it won't save your place and resume.
These files behave the same on my Infinity, TF300 and Excite 7.7 so its not unique to the Infinity alone.

Sounds like you are suffering from videos that do not support hardware acceleration (they require certain rates and options to be enabled).

[Q] Movies Freezing

I use a registered copy of ChewTune to rip iTune TV shops for watching on my TF700.
The transfer will state completed and apepar the correct size but about halfway to three Q's through the show it will free with a loud buzz.
Nothing I have tried such as moving beyond the point will help.
Tried several movies players with same results.
My question is there software that would scan the movie file and report or fix coding problems?
Thanks

Sounds to me like you either have something configured incorrectly in the ripper, or its buggy, but in either case it is unlikely a simple edit will fix the videos. The problem isn't likely a playback issue on your TF700, but try playing the vids on a pc and see if they work. If they do you might need to encode them differently. If not, then you might need a new ripper.
I am experiencing similar thing, but any show/movie stutters from beggining.
I use BS Player which worked perfectly fine until 4.2 version of android.
I think it is the ROM, not the movies. As mentioned, they work fine on PC/BoxeeBox - and they worked just fine on infinity, too - but not anymore.

Using MX Player on both 4.1 and 4.2 with no problems at all, perhaps your problem comes from BS Player.
I can second. I'm on CM10 using MX Player, and it can play my 1080p/5.1 bluray rips without any problems.

Been there, done that! Guys, loose both BS and MX and get Dice Player and all your problems will magically just go away! Works flawlessly over wifi too. Took me a month to figure this out and I had all your same issues. Thanks @jtrosky!!
