[Q] Low Memory & Flash turns phone off - Verizon Droid Charge

My fiance's charge keeps flashing low memory when he plays games or gets on internet. He had one before this one and never had a problem. Any ideas on how to fix?
Also whenever he takes a picture, his phone cuts off and it won't turn back on unless he pulls battery. I've seen threads on Verizon saying a lot of peoples do that... ANd hit reset. That worked for two minutes and it's back to doing it again. I know people on here are always helpful =] His phone is stock. He won't let me root it. He's scared something will happen! UGH.
Thanks

Tell him to quit being such a *****.
The device will shut down when taking a picture with flash when the battery is too low-power draw is greater than the battery can provide at that point.
Low memory-not much you can do about it until rooted. Cut down in some active processes.

Lol thanks he had a full batt. I hate his laggggy phone. I might just take his phone while he's sleeping Nd work some magic.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App

Use Titanium Backup PRO once you gain root to freeze bloatware apps that won't uninstall from the system. You'll gain a hell of a lot more memory by doing that.

Battery question

Hey guys, fairly new but I just got the g2x on wednesday and well, let's say I drained the battery (30% when I got it), and then charged it fully, and then fully charged it again, and let it drain.
My battery is horrendous, and I don't even use the phone that much. I'm losing 20% battery in a half hour - 1 hour just texted someone twice, used facebook for a maximum of 10 minutes, and searched/downloaded some apps I found very useful.
I know this is redundant, but I'm not sure what to do, i'm afraid to play NOVA or need for speed just because my battery is draining so quickly from just texting and minor functions.
I have TaskPanel to auto-kill anything, but I'm not sure that's really doing anything. Not going to lie, the battery improved from yesterday's charge. Maybe I need to give it time? But after 2 days, it's still frustrating.
Someone help
Call T-Mobile, get a new battery or exchange the phone. You have two weeks to decide if you want to keep it.
That's what I'm doing. Or just try a factory reset.

Alright, i'll bring it to T-mobile then ask them about it, and then if they recommend the factory reset then I'll do that, I hate to lose all my apps that I spend awhile downloading lol, but I guess there's never free lunch

Just back them up with titanium backup if your rooted.

I'm not rooted, I simply don't do it because I'm worried about voiding my warranty, and I'm really not that tech-savvy with the android, I'm really new to it, and find it difficult at times haha. Unless it's easy to unroot it..... then I'd root it

Its really easy to unroot, one button and that's it. Same program to root it. Just root it then unroot it after you're done backing up your apps.

what apps are 'extremely' useful? Id wipe, then download them one at a time. One of them is likely causing the fast drain.
If that doesnt help, def. take it back to the store for a swap.

Alrighty, well i really dont have that many apps haha, I have like SMS pro, and I added some widgets and launchers that's all, those are probably easy to download in all honesty.
Is it really that easy to unroot and root? Can you tell me what app I can use to do that? or how to do that?
I'm trusting that it really works because I'd hate to void my warranty

I'm on my third run through=charged fully, run down to 1%, charged fully, run down to 1%, charged fully.
Right now, I'm at 75% after 4 hours, which is much better than before. Yesterday I was at about 10% per hour with only minimal use.
Give it time.
Went to t-mobile, there was a phone specialist from LG there, and he put Advanced Taskiller froyo for me, and now i ran down the battery and am fully charging it again. Hopefully it works.

[Q] Brightness Reduced due to overheating!!!

I am very desperate here in regards to one issue that I have. My phone keeps reducing the brightness on the screen due to overheating. My phone is not even hot. The problem is that I can't even go back to full brightness. I have to wait for a while to do that. But then, I work a little with the phone and BAM does it again. Are you guys having the same issue that I am having?. I have the phone to maximum brightness with auto brightness off. I asked on different forums and no answer as of yet. I already exchanged the phone and I am still having the same issues with my second phone.

Replied as well in the other post.
Are you running widgetlocker? That seems to overheat the phones by running the cpu into the ground
No sir. Not running widgetlocked. Funny thing i just watched an entire movie that i purchased through the media hub and the brightness was never an issue. But here I am surfing and checking youtube clips and it happended again.
My god. It keeps doing it. I cant believe nobody has the same issue I have. 2nd phone and as soon as Frys has more in stock I will be getting my third. I love this phone and I will not give up until I have a working one. But if anyone knows of how to fix this issue please let me know. Thank you so much.
I had the same problem. Backed up all my data and did a factory reset. I'm not sure what app it was but I've heard widgetsoid & widget locker are the ones that cause the processor to constantly run at full power making the phone overheat. After my restore my phone was back to normal.

Thank you. I will keep you guys posted.

Don't restore any apps yet or downliad anything. Just use it regular stock for a few hours and see if it heats up. If not its a buggy app using all of your resources.

I only have this happen while having my infuse mounted on the dash while driving. it happens when the phone is charging, screen cranked up all the way, using google navigation turn by turn, has bluetooth on, and is streaming music from google music. Haven't had it happen during normal use at home. The phone mounted on the dash doesn't help with the heat since it's being hit by such strong heat from the sun. I'm also using the barely there case by case mate and it is always pretty cool to the touch with brightness all the way up and wifi on. Don't know If that helps. I'm loving my phone though.

Man, this is crazy. Still haven't fix the issue with the brightness and now I have an issues with flash content on my browser. For flash the video plays fine but the sound is playing like in slow motion. Uninstall flash and reinstall flash and still have the same issues. I starting to think that I have a lemon for a phone. 5 days and still Fry's has the phone out of stock. I need the return it for a third and hopefully last time. Oh by the way, I still have issues with the brightness.

[Q] Anyone have success fixing restart issues?

I've had my G2X for about a month, and have been experiencing the common issue where my phone randomly shuts off and the only way to get it to turn back on is to pull the battery.
I've installed the GB update, that didn't fix it. Factory reset didn't help either.
Has anyone successfully fixed this issue on their phone? If so, what'd you do? Is there any chance that rooting my phone would correct the problem?
Sorry if there was a post about this, I couldn't find anything talking about if anyone's been able to fix the problem.
Thanks
yes... the onlyhh way to fix the problem is to root! nvflash clock work mod recovery, then flash eagle blood 2.3.3 rom and it is perfect...
Thanks, this did indeed seems to do the trick. Not a single reboot so far after 2.5 days.

My G2X actually restarted on its own today. It was the first time since the first few days I had the phone over a month-month and a half ago. Wasn't really a big deal, lol. It comes back on.
Have been playing with this phone for 3 days now and haven't had any issues (I did install xboarder's stock rooted version). Minor screen bleed is the only issue.

Finally, someone (dmaniscool) who can say they switched to an xda dev'ed ROM and got rid of the lock ups. I've posted many times asking if anybody ACTUALLY FIXED a problem (specifically the battery pull lock up); I got no responses, and someone finally stated it. Great. Next time my wife's G2x locks up, I'm rooting and putting a ROM on it.
Thank you dmaniscool

Will do, so far so good! I had no experience with rooting, and was able to figure it out looking at the guides available on the forum. It kind of looks intimidating, but it's not actually very difficult.
By restart does everyone mean just shuts down? Mine never restarts, it will just shut off.

Mine did both actually, shut down and restarts. But mostly just shut downs, which required a battery pull to power back on.
My 2 will do both - but I think the "shut-off" is a lock up, because the longer I leave it locked up, the less battery I'll have after I do a battery pull.
8 days of both phones not locking up by doing one restart per day per phone.
Since I raised the minimum CPU speed to 389 from 216, I have far fewer sleeps of death
You don't wanna know where this was sent from.
I've tried every ROM and kernel combination possible and nothing actually fixes these problems for me.
Wow this post was scary at first, I had a thunderbolt and no matter what. RUU, Different ROMS, Stock, Kernels, Radios. Changing all that didn't matter it still turns off constantly and doesn't turn back on till I do it meaning no text or calls, basically same as having a phone on silent all the time without even having the luck chance of pulling it out while ringing.....
I am on miui x.26 (whatever kernal that comes with it) and have over 40 hours of uptime. I haven't had a crash yet, I just manually restart every couple of days because I'm weird like that.
Sent from my LG-P999
Well 6 days into it and I've had a total of 2 shutdowns. I don't know if it was a coincidence, but both times were after being outside when it was ~90 degrees out.
This is still much improved, I used to get 3-4 per day on average.
I'm using Eaglesblood 2.3.3. I'm thinking of trying MIUI because it's so nice looking.
For me I did a battery replacement the first time directly from T-Mobile and the phone continued restarting on me. I was just about to request a replacement phone from T-Mobile until I recently purchased a different brand of battery containing the same specs as the stock battery and to my surprise no overheating and definitely no restarts. I feel that the restarts and lockups are due to faulty batteries shipped out with the phones. I'm suprised no one has mentioned this.

Wow, I told the CostCo kiosk girl I was having lock up problems and I had my grandkids with me. She took my phone and pulled the battery - at the same time my grandson stated he had to go to the bathroom NOW. She either looked at the battery or something on the phone under the battery. I didn't have time to ask. She didn't really comment and gave me my phone back.
Hmmmmmm........

ok so do they know what exactly is causing the shut downs or reboot on this phone? i just got mine today and it was pre installed with gingerbread and idk if there is root for the gingerbread build yet. i just want root but no custom rom for me. i love the stock rom. it kicked the crap out of my sensation 4g as far as speed goes in everyday use.

question for the "doc" lol, saw where everyone was talking about the "not working" apps in the dev thread, can we not go in and remove the apps ourselves? I just went in and removed TiBu with root explorer and re-installed the version i purchased then went in and removed all the apps that don't work or not gonna use, or was that not something I should have not did?

It's probably fine.
After you reinstalled TiBu were you able to update? I know there were a few people that were having issues with the TiBu not updating.
I once heard though, that it's better to freeze unwanted apps rather than uninstalling. Something to do with OTA updates looking for the bloatware in order to validate that your system is not hacked/rooted. Anyway, it's probably not a big deal, just ever since I read that I always just freeze rather than uninstall. Unless its an app I put on there and or I know that it's not something AT&T put on there. But myself, I would apply that same theory to any of the things included with the ROM, anything I don't want I'll freeze rather than uninstall.
Let us know if that worked for the updating of TiBu.

i could not update the TiBu that came with the rom but once I removed it and re-installed from market then the key no problems.. i did not know that about freezing the apps Ill remember that from the future, i just uninstalled the add on apps anyways I.E. ext4, reboot etc... so hope I will be good to go, if not gotten really good at odin and reflashing lol. I installed the rom, and have used it for a little over a day now.. I love the theme, and its def snappy, but has a few problems me and a friend found. We've both put the rom on our Infuses.
For a few flashes, my home button wouldn't work, but I think that was narrowed to backing up system data.. it now works for me though. On the first flash try, all calls being made TO my phone just got a busy signal, but I could call out.. My friend's phone calls only works when calling out. When he receives a call, itll end the call about 5 seconds into it.
He cannot turn his phone on while its plugged into the charger.. it wont do anything when he holds the power button. I cannot get root explorer to work, no matter what. I've reinstalled it, fixed permissions, still nothing. I now use another app to access it. When ever I get a new email and notification, my phone will freeze and reboot. I've had quite a few random reboots today as well, with my friend having only a few. It even rebooted while in the middle of a phone call.
I've tried a few different kernels, but not sure if i know when it installs correctly other than the phone boots up... I know the voodo kernel hasnt worked at all... itll sit on the samsung screen for at least 30 mins a few different tries.

Sounds like you have a bad flash. I'd start over, make sure you do your proper wiping. And read over the Dev section there are a lot of additional steps spread throughout. I will try to compile them into one post when I get some free time. Good luck.

I've redownloaded the flash to my computer twice, recopied it to my phone twice, started with a complete fresh rom using odin that was already rooted and CWM installed, and wiped all data possible. I've followed all the steps, done reboots in between sometimes just to try something different.. I've reflashed my rom at least 6 times in the past two days maybe trying different things .
has anyone had bad battery drain with this? last night i charged 100% before went to bed, had JD running on aggressive mode, wifi anf BT disabled as well as setcpu no OC and profile for 400/100 when screen off.... got up this morning 6 hours and was at 38%, ive been running the rom for days now so i think its had time to bake but not sure what else to do? any suggestions.

Anyone else disappointed with multitasking?

I'm coming from a samsung vibrant and although it's slower it seems like it multitasks a lot better. I'm pretty sure this is due to sense taking up way too much ram. The phone is pretty fast opening up apps and I'll probly end up keeping it but I'm very disappointed in the multitasking. Also I can't count how many times I have pressed the home screen button and it has to reload the home screens because it runs out of ram. Is anyone else having this issue?

Yes I have thought about rooting it but I'm kinda scared. I'm not new to rooting phones( I've rooted every Android phone I have had) but this one scares me because of no removable battery. My vibrant was nice because of a program called Odin that saved me quite a few times when I've had a bad flash. Odin was a program that would flash the phone back to stock firmware no matter what happend to your phone which made the vibrant virtually unbrickable. Does HTC have any software that will do that?

I know about Odin and no HTC software like that but if u follow the guides u wont break it. The T-Mobile guide here in the general swction works perfectly if your on tmobile Plus koush just released a stable recovery today through the rom manager app. So just follow that guide but instead of using that recovery he suggested in the thread just use the one in rom manager

Oh and if hold the power button for ten seconds or so it will do a hard reset of the phone no matter if the phone is stuck in a boot loop or not. I was stuck in a boot loop because I was trying to theme something and it was just boot looping and I held the power button and sure enough it turned off the phone and I was able to get into boot loader again. So not having a removable battery shouldn't be an issue

Let's see your vibrant do this...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8o4mHPcZOsE&feature=youtube_gdata_player
You are right, this phone sucks!/sarcasm/

lol, I watched that video before I bought this phone however, what the video doesn't show is that when you click on a app in the recent apps menu it usually has to reload the app so its not really truly multitasking. Android has a built in task manager that closes out the other apps when it needs more ram for the new app and because sence is a ram hog sometimes It will only allow me to run one app at a time. And i never said the phone sucks, I just said I was disappointed. I like the phone and I even like sence, ( its very sexy) but it uses way to much ram. Probably doesn't help that my home screens are loaded with Widgets too. : P

@ jriv,
My vibrant would also do a hard reset when you hold the power. However when I would bootloop and did that it would only reboot into a bootloop. Are u saying that you can reboot into recovery this way during a boot loop? I also had a Motorola cliq that I almost bricked but was able to pull out my SD card and put it in my computer so I could put another file on it and reflash the rom. With no external SD I am also hesitant.

Yes if you hold power it will turn off the phone then you can hold the power button plus volume down and it boot into boot loader then from there u can select recovery.

And u shouldn't worry about external SD because the holding of the power button will turn the phone off no matter what and from there u can reboot into boot loader then recovery

Maybe I will check it out. I know if I keep it i will end up rooting it eventually but I am still trying to decide. The phones I had before the vibrant ( Motorola cliq and HTC my touch 3g) were a bit of a pain with radio compatability and roms. That is another reason I'm a little weary. I can't remember the last time ive had to use adb. Everything was so easy with the vibrant

Rooting is simple there is just a program you run and it roots you're phone for you.the other part is un locking the bootloader but there is instructions for that. As of right now there are no radios to choose from so all roms work pretty easy.

Is there a way to relock the bootloader and return to factory settings just in case I need to return the phone?

"Loading" message on the home screen is caused by enabling a setting in "Developer options" called "Dont"t keep activities". This setting instructs the phone to "destroy" every activity as soon as you leave it. So in essence, everytime you leave the home screen to do anything else, the phone "destroys" HTC Sense. The loading message is HTC Sense being restarted once you exit to the home screen. Unchecking this "feature" will eliminate the "Loading" message.
Destroy activities seems clear by default. Was wondering if anyone played with the background process setting though...it has a default and 1-4 processes allowed.

I think I hit it by mistake while in the developer options. It was only after being in here that the "loading" started happening. Clearing it resolved it for me. Not sure how the background processes setting changes things. I left it at default.
forget the developer options or scripts. they don't help.
as many of you know there're no multitasking issues on other recent android phones. you can leave games or streaming apps and come back to them half an hour later and still be in the same spot. with HOS as soon as you leave them, you're going to start over. the oom values don't help much with the situation as the phone has plenty of memory for any applications. the issue isn't the memory available, but how the phone manages saved states and KERNEL is responsible for that. so until a talented soul would be able to fix it on KERNEL level for us we're are stuck with it.
I have a Vibrant that I still mess with, if you ask me Odin sucks big time. It's more of a crutch then anything if you ask me. Of all the 5 android devices I hate the Vibrant the most. That being said it still is a good phone and the one I use currently is run Slim ICS.
I can tell you that you don't have to worry about the non-removable battery. Holding down the power button will always power off the phone. No need for a battery pull.
I can also tell you that multitasking SUCKS on the stock One S rom. The phone reloads apps much much more often then my other android devices.
See this 77 page thread on the ATT One X forum if you disagree. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646409&highlight=multitasking

Bingo! Mannequin is spot on about the multitasking problem.
